I just love this series from Erica Ridley. The banter, crazy story lines, instant chemistry, endearing characters, entertaining side plots, fun animal companions, supportive family... the list goes on and this entry is no different. I really enjoyed this entry to the Wynchester's story and I look forward to the next one.
Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for providing an advanced readers copy of this book, I appreciate the opportunity to follow the series!
The characters are lovable and the plot is filled with delightful twists. Prepare to be swept away in this enchanting love story!
I need to preface this review with the fact that I am 100% enamored with this series and when it comes to Wynchesters, Ridley can do no wrong. This one had everything you expect from the series: queer representation, disability representation, Ocean's 11 grade hijinks and romance that is as steamy as it is sweet.
Marjorie has long been one of my favorite siblings and I was very excited to read her book. Working in the field of of forgeries, but always for good, provided a plot line to romance that created some tension, but of a low-key variety. There was just enough derring-do to move the plot along, but nothing was so overwrought that it felt gratuitous (as sometimes can happen in the genre).
Now, I do have to add the disclaimer that the suspension of disbelief required for the Wild Wynchesters is a bit more than romance novels usually need. You do have to be willing to roll along with ideas like "trained homing hedgehogs" and "ye olde networks of information that work faster than Google." However, that is what makes these books so much fun. Master of disguise? Why not! Master forgeries as a hobby? Sure! Independent wealth so large that an entire family can dabble in vigilante justice for funsies? Absolutely! 100% on board with this plan!
Add this one, and the entire series really, to your TBR list if you like diverse romances with a super fun covert ops twist.
Marjorie Wynchester steps out of the studio and into the action in the fourth book of The Wild Wynchesters series. And the reprobate she's determined to take on may turn out not to be so bad after all. In fact, he may just turn out to be her match.
This book is a gosh darn delight. I had a perpetual grin on my face while reading it. And Tickletums, the hedgehog, is a treasure.
I can't wait to see what comes next for the Wynchesters!
I received an advance copy of the book from Forever and NetGalley. All review opinions are my own.
My Rogue to Ruin. This story is wonderful. The story is very entertaining. Marjorie and Adrian are the two main characters in this story, but the Wynchrsters who ran the show. The story offers an intriguing story behind all is what’s required to the nasty business of forging money.
I truly love Marjorie spirit. She’s not let her disability or her being the youngest Winchester hold her back. I say, when she swung into the room, putting solely and Adrian on alert was splendid. There a number of moments you might find humorous, I did. The stories plot lines up very well with all the characters ending goal.
How they go about to reach the goal is the best parts of the book. The romance is so sweet and delicious. Adrian is a true gentleman through and through. The books narrative is one of simple dialect and details explained plainly. Just the right amount to keep the reader nose first in the story.
I give this book two snaps and a twist. Until next time my fellow readers. Read on!
I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Thanks to Netgalley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for the eARC
First can I just say I love a historical romance novel that includes queer characters? Because queer people have always existed and normalizing that is something I wish more authors did. Even though Marjorie isn't queer, she has siblings that are and the acceptance and love in her family is so sweet.
If you like a found family and close proximity trope, then this novel is for you. The Wynchesters are all adopted and are all very different, but so loving towards each other. Marjorie doubts herself a lot because she has limited hearing, though she can read lips, speaks, and has sign language. She still feels like she doesn't contribute to her families capers, that she's just a wallflower.
She jumps at the chance to use her substantial art skills to stop a counterfeiting scheme that's harming lower class people in regency England. She gets more than she's bargained for when she's basically locked in a room with Lord Adrian, the man who has been counterfeiting coins for a criminal overlord. Though all is not as it seems. Is Lord Adrian a terrible flirt who regulary jokes about ravishing Marjorie? Yes, and he is slowly wearing Marjorie down as she learns he may not be the rake she thought he was.
I really liked this story, I thought it was cute and had some nice sexy parts. I also enjoyed that the main character had partial hearing loss and how she navigated the world. I'm a sucker for a novel that highlights characters that aren't hot white people whose biggest flaws are they're a finance bro.
Definitely I recommend this book for fans of Bridgerton and this is my first 5 star read in awhile.
A very nice book by Erica Ridley. I’ve never read a book by this author before so I wasn't sure what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the story and the characters.
Lots of fun, angst, hijinks, and love - everything I’ve come to expect from Erica Ridley and her Wild Wynchesters! This is the fourth in the series, and I found it more enjoyable than the third, but that may be because Marjorie is so sympathetic, empathetic and relatable. I just adored her story with Adrian.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley.
Such a great regency romance! The banter was perfect and had me laughing at some times. The sweet moments truly hit home with me. It was such a fun read!
Another winner from Miss Ridley! I love reading about talented heroines and thought the dynamic between the main characters was excellent.
I received this book from NetGalley. Opinions are my own.
In this book, Lord Adrian Webb returns from exile abroad determined to redeem himself and clear his name. Unfortunately, his plans go awry from the beginning because his talents at forgery have been discovered and he is blackmailed into counterfeiting coins. The Wynchesters become involved when victims of the counterfeit money come to them for help. Marjorie Wynchester, a talented artist, demands to lead the search for the counterfeiter. Using her skills as an artist as well as application of unique extra-sensory observations attributed to the partial loss of her hearing, Marjorie becomes embroiled in the counterfeiting scheme with the goal of disassembling the operation from the inside. She believes Webb to be a first rate scoundrel and overall terrible person and learns otherwise when working side by side with him, where mutual appreciation for each other's skills as well as romance blossoms.
I enjoyed the story and the mystery component, which was not a dark, depressing mystery. Plenty of humor was included in the story, and the characterization was unique, extending to a variety of animals as well. I did feel the romance between Webb and Marjorie was a bit too insta-lust/insta-love for me, but that tends to happen with forced proximity storylines.
characterization comments, possible spoiler so I'll put behind a cut: <spoiler>I was slightly put off by Webb's attempts to be a "lustful lord" (somewhat seductive and even crass at times) at the beginning of his interactions with Marjorie, but I attributed the jarring nature of those scenes to be the result of his supposed reputation as a scoundrel and a rake, which were were very different than Webb's POV and thoughts. I appreciated Marjorie's characterization as a disabled artist, and the instances of ableism and her attempts to continually prove herself were touching (although I note that while I am dynamically disabled, I am not hard of hearing or deaf). I enjoyed Marjorie's POV and descriptions affected by her limited hearing, which made her character feel more "real" to me, for example, details focused on tones being too low for her to hear without facing characters, lip reading, using sign language.</spoiler>
Not having read the previous books in the series, reading this book as an introduction into the Wynchesters and their hijinks was a tad overwhelming. I knew when I requested the ARC that I would possibly be dumped into the deep end, so I wasn't entirely surprised. But I definitely felt left out of a lot of backstory between characters. That said, I enjoyed the cast of characters with their unique and individual talents and plan to read the previously published books.
Struggling to rate between 4-5 stars primarily due to the lack of background/my fault for not reading the previous books in the series, so I'll round up to 5 because I believe I would happily read this book again.
I received an ebook ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Someone is forging money in London and the Wynchesters are on the case! Marjorie thinks of herself as the "wallflower" sibling who works alone and behind the scenes for the most part. She decides that because this is essentially an art crime, she wants to take charge of the investigation and be the "man on the inside". Adrian Webb is a rogue who is returning to London after many years abroad making art forgeries. He is attempting to get out of the business when he is blackmailed into forging currency until his debts are repaid. When Marjorie initially infiltrates the crime business, he is forced to work together with her. Though he makes many bawdy jokes in the beginning, he soon realizes that Marjorie is captivating him in ways he didn't think possible.
MY GOODNESS THIS BOOK!! I cannot remember the last historical romance that I've read where I laughed this raucously - truly multiple times every chapter I was pausing to laugh my little heart out! I would protect Tickletums the Hedgehog with my life - I know there are quite a few HRs with Hedgehogs and now I feel compelled to read every single one in existence.
Ok on to the actual relationship because much to my disappointment this book is not solely about Tickletums (please Erica Ridley can we have a novella about Tickletums??). I loved Marjorie and Adrian's relationship trajectory and how well Adrian saw and understood Marjorie from soon into their relationship. It was honestly less of a slow burn than I expected.
This book has everything we've come to expect from the Wynchester family - it has hijinks and schemes and everything in between! I also loved that once Marjorie told her family a little of her feelings for Adrian, they accepted him into the family with very little questions (though some definite threatening of murder if Adrian didn't treat Marjorie well, of course). This book had fewer scenes with the other siblings given the nature of the plot, but the scenes we did get were so fun and funny! I loved how Marjorie wanted to take a more active role in the schemes of her family.
There's truly nothing about this that I didn't like! It was a hilariously perfect 5 stars for me!
Thank you to Forever and Netgalley for the eARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily and all thoughts and opinions are my own.
I need to go back and read the rest of the Wynchester siblings, but I adored the story present in My Rogue to Ruin!
I love love love when when the hero falls so hard and even more so when we get to read in their POV!
The Banter and the Smut were absolute perfection and sealed the deal about me going back to read the other novels!!!!
Thank you to NetGalley and Forever for this ARC.
I think this is a book best read in its order in the series. I made the mistake of reading it without reading the others first, and I just couldn't get into it. Too many characters, too much backstory I didn't understand. That being said, I'm sure it would be a totally different scenario if I had read the rest of the series first.
Erica Ridley's Wynchester series are all fun, light hearted romances dashed with a bit of adventure and mystery set in the 1800s in England. I really enjoy how each book gives a little deeper look into each member of the family and their story. While I still enjoyed and recommend this title, it felt a bit more limited since the characters are mostly confined to one space for the majority of the story.
Another fun anachronistic romance in the Wild Winchesters series. I wasn't as into this one as the previous books in the series, probably due to the location. Having the majority of the book take place in one location made it feel much less dynamic than there previous installments. However, it was still a fun read and I'm looking forward to the next in the series.
Lord Adrien Webb has been deemed a scoundrel by his father and society. When Adrien's father sends him away to the Continent, he is left penniless. In order to survive, Adrien finds himself forging priceless art and selling his own works to English snobs who can't tell the difference. All goes well, until he is blackmailed into committing treason. In steps the Wynchester family and their daring capers. Marjorie, who has been left hard of hearing due to a childhood illness that left her orphaned, has always let her siblings take the lead when it comes to planning daring rescues. But her artistic skill is needed to figure out who in London is scamming the poor citizens with counterfeit coins. It doesn't take long for Marjorie's search to lead her right to Lord Adrien. Marjorie must now reconcile her mixed feelings for Adrien and how she is going to save them both. This is a read that you will not want to put down. The chemistry between Lord Adrien and Marjorie is fire and sizzles through the whole book. A page turner that will keep you on edge and hopeful for the future of Marjorie and Lord Adrien.
I'm normally not a fan of historical romance series that involve family members with special 'powers'. They stretch the imagination so far that it falls into the absurd. That said, this story was well written but hard to follow since I had not read the first 3 books of the series. Marjorie Wynchester's talent is painting, with the ability to 'see and smell' the colors of a person to make up for her poor hearing. She finds herself working side-by-side with disgraced Lord Adrian Webb, who is indentured to an unscrupulous pawnbroker to settle a debt. They develop feelings for each other, which convinces the villain that they should never be freed. Enter her various family members, with their special talents, to the rescue. The story progresses to the happily-ever-after with all outstanding problems falling neatly by the wayside.
Thank you to Netgalley for this ARC!
Admittedly this is the first book in this series I've read so I did go in without the backstory that may have been included in the first 3 books.
However, the Wynchester family was no less a fun book to read and I enjoyed it quite a bit!
Adrian is a rake, a rogue, a scoundrel, and he and Marjorie Wynchester are brought together to bring down an actual bad guy. Adrian shows quickly that he's not really as bad as his reputation may seem, and it's a classic case of guys falls first and guy falls hard.
Marjorie was a lovely FMC and I really enjoyed her tenacious personality - though not always the most consistent writing, Marjorie was a great character.
It was cute! 3.5 Stars.
This book was adorable. I loved the time period and the story kept me interested. There were so many elements that I enjoyed getting to know. This is my first book by Erica Ridley so I have not read any of the other Winchester stories, but I think I might. All of the characters were entertaining and even the bad guys were presented so well. This book could almost make a Powerpuff Girl with the sugar, spice and everything nice!
Thank you to #NetGalley and the Publisher for the ARC. As I am my own person, all of the above opinions are my own.
