So this was cute and enjoyable, but I felt extremely lost for much of the beginning of the book. This really can't work as a standalone title because there is so much backstory and, I assume, character introduction in previous books. If I'd read the others I bet I'd have found this one even better. But I liked the time period and plot!
Thank you for allowing access to this title for review!
3.5⭐️ such a cute regency era romance!
I didn’t know this was the 4th in the series when I picked it up but I was able to follow the story and characters with no problem!
I do wish there was more angst and enemies in the enemies to lovers romance but still loved the overall story and characters! It gave Bridgerton with a good dose of tomfoolery.
Thank you netgalley for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
I FREAKING LOVE THE WYNCHESTERS. My Rogue to Ruin by Erica Ridley is book four in the Wild Wynchesters series, and I honestly think this series just keeps getting better with each book. Each book focuses on a different Wynchester sibling--and if you don't know this, the Wynchester family is the best, biggest, more unconventional found family in regency romance.
This one is Marjorie's story, which was an absolute delight to read. Hard of hearing, she's always felt a bit removed from the family's previous capers, and when they discover a forger churning out counterfeit money, Marjorie insists it's her time to shine. Her artistic background makes her the perfect Wynchester to infiltrate the forgery ring and bring the criminals to justice--and everything goes to plan until she realizes that the forger, Adrian, isn't the despicable person she assumes him to be. He's being held against his will and forced to create the forgeries to protect his sister and her reputation. Enter the rest of the Wynchesters! Hilarity and danger and romance ensue, and justice prevails.
If you love hijinks and humor, found family, and regency romance, then picking up My Rogue to Ruin is a no brainer. Honestly, this entire series is the BEST. It's kinda like the Bridgertons only funnier.
Warning, this is the 4th book in this series. I kept feeling like I was missing something or just having a hard time getting in this book, then I learned this was a series. It was enjoyable enough, but maybe it would have been even better had I read the complete series. Thank you NetGalley for the advanced preview.
Due to hearing loss, Marjorie has never felt like enough or taken the lead on a case, until now. When the Wynchesters find out money is being forged and possessions taken from the innocent, they take the case. As it’s an art related crime, and that’s her specialty, Marjorie convinced her siblings to let her infiltrate the scene of the crime. Marjorie willingly joins Snowley’s forgery where she meets Lord Adrian. While she can leave, Adrian is a prisoner of Snowley until he repays his debt.
Marjorie starts off with a terrible opinion of Lord Adrian, but quickly learns he’s more than he seems. The belief Marjorie and Adrian have in each other was one of my favorite parts of this story. I love how they learned how to believe in themselves too. I loved how the Wynchesters supported Marjorie even when she was stuck with Snowley and later imprisoned. I liked Adrian’s growth as he learned what a family supporting you can really be like. . The Wynchesters are the best! They always make me laugh and just put a smile on my face as they help save the day. As they say “Wynchesters do impossible things.”
I mean we have Tickletums the working hedgehog in this one- so what else do you need, really? This is another wonderful addition to the Wynchester family series - you have the normal funny takes and wacky ways to save the day. With this one we have Marjorie who we know as the artist always in her studio but this time she takes over as lead. She meets Adrian, the horrible Lord that is counterfeiting coins but finds he is more. These two are a hoot to read along with the family trying to solve the case.
You could read this as a standalone but you would miss a lot of the family from previous books. The series is outstanding and so much fun!
Thanks to forever for this book
The Wynchesters have caught wind of a forger cheating people out of their belongings with counterfeit coin. Marjorie has never joined one of their investigations before, but she is their resident forger (only if necessary}. She is determined to find and out forge the forger, bring down the criminal, and return the goods to their owners. Adrian is working for the same criminal to pay of a debt, his and his sister’s. He and Marjorie start as competitors and enemies, but somehow end up on the same side. How will Marjorie and her Wynchester siblings solve this one? This is another entertaining adventure with the Wild Wynchesters. This one has theft, forgery, danger, disguise(s), a homing hedgehog in training, a carrier crow, a slimy villain, the usual Wynchester shenanigans, and romance for Marjorie and Adrian. Good story.
I voluntarily reviewed this book.
Again, here I am reading the 4th book in a series when I haven't read any others in The Wild Wynchesters. I honestly felt as if I was missing a bit of the story in this installment.
I get the impression The Wynchesters are a "Robinhood" family, saving the underprivileged from being taken advantage. I enjoyed the story but I wish I had read from the beginning.
Thank Forever for the complimentary copy.
A fun and sweet regency romance. I didn’t realize it was part of a series but I enjoyed it as a stand-alone. Marjorie takes the lead on a case to bring down a forger, except that he’s not the awful man people think he is. Adrian and Marjorie were great with their banter and shameless flirting while getting to know and falling in love with each other.
It had good tension and it was a slow burn.
The Wynchesters are a fun clan and their hijinks are both entertaining and endearing.
Full transparency, when I first requested this book I did not know it was the 4th in a series. That being said, while I didn’t know as much about the female main character’s family, I do think this could work as a stand-alone as well. I really enjoyed this one. It was fun and I liked that it had Robin Hood vibes with the female main character and her family trying to help others when they are wronged. I do think that the flow of the first part versus the second half could have been slightly improved, but besides that I found this a very enjoyable read. The character’s were interesting, the story was well-written and especially in the second half you are pulled into the story well as you wait to see what happens. I think I will definitely go read the others in this series now!
My Rogue to Ruin is the newest release in the Wild Wynchesters series and I have absolutely adored this historical romance series.
If you love historical romances with found family vibes, this is the series for you! The Wynchesters are a group of 6 siblings who were orphaned and taken in and raised by a wealthy, loving Baron. Together they take on missions to fight and seek justice for those who have no where else to turns with their special skills (mapmaking, disguises, forgery, breaking in, etc). All their adventures, sleuthing, mystery-solving, and helping those in unfortunate circumstances is the best!
In this book we follow Marjorie Wynchester and art forgery! Marjorie has always just taken a backseat to her family planning all of their undercover work, but this time she’s the only one with the skillset needed to find the culprit of counterfeits. Marjorie is partially deaf after a smallpox incident as a child, but she’s also an artist who remembers every detail of things once she’s seen it. Lord Adrian has been disowned by his father after he got tired of his roguish, rakish ways. So when he was left penniless, Adrian took to light forgery… Now a blackmailer is out to ruin him and he becomes entangled with the Wynchester siblings!
This one was a lot to fun! I loved how Adrian and Marjorie end up having to have a lot of forced time together. They start talking and Marjorie realizes there is more to Adrian than she first thought. I did think the middle bit felt a bit long, but otherwise this was just a delight! I love the time with the Wynchester siblings and Tinkletums, the homing hedgehog, was another fav!
Thank you so much to the publisher, Forever, for an ARC. All thoughts in this review are my own!
Another installment in the Wild Wynchesters series. You just never know what they will be up to!
This time it is Marjorie who has never stepped into their investigations. But this time she cannot stay out of the mystery of someone forging paintings, her area of knowledge.
As she hunts up the forger, she finds herself up against Adrian.. But that story is for you to find out for yourself
Another GREAT Regency romance featuring the beloved Wynchester siblings. I really enjoyed this latest installment in the series that sees Marjorie helping to uncover a forgery ring only to fall for the man who is being forced to commit crimes in order to work off a debt and protect his family.
Adrian and Marjorie were so great together!! I loved that they were both artists and both tried to protect the other. Full of found family, clever pets (a hedgehog and a crow), cameos from all the other Wynchesters plus great disability rep too (Marjorie is hard of hearing).
This was also on audio narrated by Moira Quirk. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a digital and finished copy in exchange for my honest review! I do not want this series to ever end!! Thankfully there was a very satisfying epilogue that is sure not to disappoint!
Well this was a first! Historical romance that includes two master forgers thrown together. I liked the unique angle, and the take-down of the arch villain. But this one (even being familiar with the Wild Wynchesters series) REALLY stretched my suspension of disbelief. I did like seeing Marjorie come into her confidence and feel secure in her place in the family. 3.5 / 5 stars.
Majorie Wynchester has always felt like she faded into the background of her caper-committing family, and she's finally ready to take the lead on a case. Someone in London is counterfeiting money, and she's determined to figure out who. The case leads her to meeting Lord Adrian Webb. Adrian is the outcast of his family, and now he's caught up in another scheme. When Marjorie and Adrian meet, she think realizes there is more to this rouge than meets the eye.
I have to start off by admitting that I do not read typically read historical romances, but when the opportunity presented itself to read this book, I decided to give it a chance. I'm glad I did because it has turned me around on the genre. I found the characters charming, the plot interesting, and the romance made me swoon. I found myself rooting for Marjorie and Arian to find their happiness, and my heart was racing to know what would become on the case. I will say this book is on the longer side, but the chapters were shorter, which was nice.
I really enjoyed this book, and will be checking out the others in the series.
This series is hit or miss but I generally like the framework and famliy members. This one was engaging and I liked the lead couple.
Without the knowledge of the first books in the series, it’s a bit hard to put together what’s happening with the Wynchester household. So much that it took me out of the story a couple of times.
The world-building was also hard to grasp with the animal companions and the missions they seemed to go on.
The romance was left to be desired, having some great moments but never progressing in the storyline, and then they were together. It was forced proximity done in a new way but at the 60% mark, I would hope for some change in direction.

One Liner: Entertaining
Lord Adrian Webb is a rakish scoundrel banished from the country by his father around ten years ago. He is back in London to meet his little sister, Iris, the only family member whose opinion matters to him. However, his little forgery, a source of his income, lands Adrian in hot water.
The Wynchester family has its own rules. They will do almost anything to help those who need it. They are knights in shining armor, with varied skills to their names. Marjorie is the youngest sister, an artist, and a wallflower protected by the family.
However, when they get a case of counterfeit pennies, Marjorie steps up to solve it. This leads her straight to Adrian and his heart. But the duo has a few hurdles to clear before they can talk about their personal lives. The villain, after all, will stop at nothing.
The story comes in the third-person POV of Adrian and Marjorie.
My Thoughts:
Though the book is the fourth in the series, it reads well as a standalone. The couples from the previous books have their HEA and have minor to moderate roles in this one.
The book is what I’d call a contemporary-themed historical romance. Even though the setting is 1818, the characters, storyline, and diversity come from today’s world. You’ll have to go with the flow to enjoy this one.
I like that the heroine is partially deaf (due to smallpox) and an expert at forgery. Well, she’s also an artist and comes from a found family with versatile talents. Some of them do read like caricatures, but the warmth between the siblings and the family makes up for the lack of character depth.
The main leads are decent enough and easy to root for, so that’s a definite plus. They aren’t complex or multilayered, but I wasn’t expecting that, anyway. As expected, Adrian is a good man, though he prefers to use his reputation to keep people away. I like how he years for family love and support.
There’s enough humor, drama, and action to keep the reader interested. Snowley is very much a ruthless villain who looks like a dear old grandpa. Even though the stakes are high, the book doesn’t feel intense. It is meant to be a lighthearted romance (Steam 1.5 max).
The climax happens in stages. We see a series of events with multiple issues cropping up one after another. However, they are neatly tackled and sorted to bring HEA.
I love the sort of dual epilogue in this one. The second last chapter could have been an epilogue, but it isn’t. We have a final proper epilogue that hints at the next book. Though I haven’t read the previous books (I’m familiar with the titles but didn’t realize they belonged to the same series), I intend to check out the next one. Well, why wouldn’t I when the FMC is the murder-loving Elizabeth?
There’s quite a bit of filler content (not sure how much will be edited in the final version). Still, it doesn’t weigh down the pacing much. I could sustain a good momentum when reading and finished it in 2 days.
And I have to mention Tickletums, the homing hedgehog being trained by Jacob. I mean… how cute is that? We also have a messenger crow, a sheep (Ophelia), and a bunch of other animals. But Tickletums gets my vote.
To summarize, My Rogue to Ruin is a lighthearted Regency romance with modern fittings. It’s an entertainer and should be treated as such, even if it manages to deal with a couple of serious topics. Don’t look for logic in this one!
Thank you, NetGalley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing), for the eARC. This review is voluntary and contains my honest opinion about the book.
Thanks to Netgalley for providing an arc in exchange for honest review!
The Wynchester family has taken on a new case! Their aim is to expose a forger and return goods gained under false pretenses. Marjorie goes undercover; only to discover the forger is not at all the kind of person she assumed they’d be.
I loved the premise and setup of this book. The forced proximity and the slow build they eventually have to realizing that they are
both on the same side worked so well and had me practically binging the entire book in one sitting. The romance was so well paced and Marjorie and Adrian complemented each other so well!
Adrian was such a rich and fun character to read about and Marjorie was on such an interesting journey of character development that was really interesting to follow. I always love returning to the Wynchester’s and their hijinx and gimmicks. Overall a light and fun read!
“Art is supposed to improve lives, not ruin them…”
Well, I can safely say that I consider My Rogue to Ruin by Erica Ridley a work of art and the only thing it can ruin is your current TBR list!!!
Full of fun, family, hijinks and romance, this fourth adventure of the Wynchesters is their best caper yet! (Don’t worry! You can totally jump into the series with this book)
Marjorie Wychester has felt like the black sheep of her out going family for as long as she can remember. As the shy and restrained sibling with skills best suited to the home (her artwork), she has stayed and secure in the background in the Wynchester family escapades until now. With a counterfeit coin operation threatening the livelihood of poor of London, the Wynchester’s have been asked to remedy this scourge. Being the only one who can pose as a counterfeiter, Marjorie takes this as her cur to step out of the Wychester shadows and prove herself… and if she just happens to fall in love with another rival counterfeiter? All the better!
Lord Adrian Webb is finally going on the straight an narrow- after years of supporting himself from his art forgeries on the continent, he back in London to sister and start over… he just has to complete one last deal… Too bad this deal finds him in indentured service to a nasty crime lord creating counterfeit coins for his empire! Well, at least he has some intriguing company when a rival counterfeiter joins his operation- how many kisses can they have while waiting for the coins to form?
This book was an absolute DELIGHT! I cannot recommend it enough. Ridley has created another unique and captivating Wychester sibling and a romance that is guaranteed to leave you tickled pink!
Thanks to Forever Publishing for my arc copy.
