Great summer read

Kate & Jeff are on their first child free holiday in years. They bump into an old friend which stirs up some old memories, not all good.

When I started this I didn't think I was going to like it. Kate was getting on my nerves from the first page but as the story unfolded I warmed to her more and more. She was so well written that I wanted to give her a hug halfway through the book. Jeff was an absolute horror, a truly selfish arrogant character. Coco Moss the old school friend was the epitome of wealth and glam but you couldn't help but pick up on the undertone that all was not as it seemed with her. It was told from the POV of each of them which throughout painted a very clear picture of what happened in the past but also what was happening in the present. I ended up loving it. It is the perfect holiday read. I would have enjoyed an extra chapter at the end or even a detailed epilogue to see how things went but overall I really enjoyed it.

One of the best books I've read this year by a country mile, it's amazing. I read this in sitting which is very rare for me, that's how good it is. Can't recommend this book highly enough.

This is my first title by this author and will be reading more.
I really enjoy this book, this book had suspense, lies, double crossing, deceit and betrayal and I really enjoyed it.
I enjoyed the plot twists of this book and did not expect some of the twists and turns that happened in this book.

A summer holiday that you certainly don't want to have.

When Kate and Jeff escape to their Spanish villa for the first time without their daughter, Kate looks forward to some much needed quality time together.

However, she spots her girl crush from university days and things begin to unravel for Kate & Jeff when a secret is uncovered.

This is a page turner and I was intrigued as to how it was going to end. I enjoy a good psychological thriller that keeps you guessing.

Even though I wanted to slap Kate more than once throughout the novel, I got the feeling that was S. E. Lynes intention.

I enjoyed reading the notes and inspiration behind the story - always adds something for me and helps me understand the story a little more.

Thanks to Netgalley and the pulisher for the Advanced Copy in lieu of a review.

I've never read any books by S.E. Lynes, but when I saw the cover for "The Summer Holiday", I knew I needed to read it ASAP! I am always a sucker for vacation-themed thrillers, and happily for me, the contents of this book were as good as the cover itself!
Kate and her husband Jeff are in the midst of their annual vacation in Spain--their first one in forever without their daughter. Kate has felt disconnected from Jeff for a while and is hoping to rekindle their relationship on this trip. When she espies Coco Moss--an effortlessly cool and fun-loving woman from university that she used to idolize--in a cafe, Kate's old obsession with her is reignited. Kate believes she has found the perfect way for her and Jeff to reconnect--she will invite Coco over for a dinner party and watch her husband's face light up. However, as you might imagine, things do not go quite as Kate had planned...
I thought this was an enjoyable read and quite introspective. The only real drawback for me was that it felt a bit overly long, especially in the middle third where nothing really happened. But then toward the end, things got a lot more exciting and I was pulled back in again. I was able to predict a few of the twists, but there were a couple that I did not see coming! The only other thing I found weird was why Kate felt such a need to reintroduce Coco to her husband...I probably would have been like, ummmm, no thank you. But of course the whole plot essentially hinged on that, so there's no real getting around it.
I am really pleased that I took a chance on a new author, and I hope you'll do the same! 4.5 stars!
Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture, and S.E. Lynes for this eARC!

How much do you really know about your husband? How many secrets can someone keep? This was a very slow building mystery with a good twisty ending. I found it to be too slow to be a real thriller.

The Summer Holiday by S.E. Lynes is another twisty and propulsive read that I just devoured from beginning to end.

Kate and her husband Jeff are vacationing at their Spanish villa, and Kate hopes that it will be an opportunity to reconnect with her increasingly distant spouse. But a chance sighting of Coco Moss, a girl with whom she went to school and always idolized, will have Kate regressing to her much younger self, and doing whatever she can to impress the former mean girl of her student days. Inviting Coco to the villa seems the perfect opportunity to wow her with just how far she has come. When Coco arrives, however, Jeff looks as if he is seeing a ghost, and Kate begins to suspect that something is not as it seems.

S.E. Lynes can always be relied upon to deliver an intriguing and emotionally engaging tale, and this latest is no exception.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for an ARC.

The Summer Holiday is a fast paced thriller that draws you in from the very first chapter.

Things I liked:
- the triple POV was very interesting and I really enjoyed experiencing the story from each of the characters views and understanding each of their, very different, motivations.
- The female characters. Kate was very relatable and I enjoyed watching her get stronger and more independent throughout the story. Coco was a fun villain and I liked her as a con woman. I do wish there was more of her backstory m/earlier in the book to understand her motivations better for fitting in to the crowd at uni.

Things I didn’t love:
- Jeff - I feel like the reader was supposed to dislike him, but I didn’t see any redeemable qualities. Even his relationship/feelings toward his daughter were very negative.
- The twists. The twists seemed a bit predictable but seemed to make sense for the flow of the book.

Overall an enjoyable read.

I enjoyed this fast-paced thriller, cleverly told over the course of a few days, but with repeated flashbacks. When Kate and her husband Jeff go and stay at their holiday villa in spain, they run into Mean-Girl Coco from university. Despite to be liked Kate will do anything to be part of the cool crowd - but it seems that all along Jeff has been hiding some secrets about Coco.

Twisty psychological thriller.. and just when you think the tests are done ..bam...another one to side swipe you. Brilliant when you don't see it coming.
Really enjoyed this book, but not surprised the author is a treat.

Thanks to the author, the publisher and NetGalley for an early release of this book.

S E Lynes books never disappoint. This was a fast paced, dram thrilled, twisty domestic thriller that I just could not put down. We are transported to sunny Spain, the food, the beaches, the alcohol! This would be the perfect poolside read, unfortunately it is winter this side of the world!

The 3 major players were all incredibly unlikable, but who was the worst? Coco, Kate and Jeff really showed their true colours as the book progressed. It was a book where you wanted to bash all their heads together. Secrets are always dangerous, and these grown adults certainly had plenty of them.

Thanks to Bookoture for my advanced copy of this book to read and review. Publishes 9th May

So tense that I could hardly bear it!

As a big fan of this author’s novels, I was planning on saving this one for my own summer holiday but as soon as other readers began to review it, I knew that I couldn’t wait.

The Summer Holiday is a tense and claustrophobic thriller. While the main plot takes place over a few days, perfectly paced memories resurface to reveal secrets and lies from the past. Told through the eyes of the three central characters, you are never quite sure who to trust. Then Lynes ratchets up the tension with each chapter until you almost can’t bear it before - bam - she hits you with a plot twist that spins the narrative in a whole other direction.

Lynes physical description is so beautifully evocative that you feel as if you are in Cadaques yourself and this adds much to the tense heat that permeates this story. Something else I’ve come to expect from Lynes’ novels is an exploration of the psychological traits that cause us to behave the way we do. Both Kate and her husband Jeff’s reaction to the enigmatic Coco reveal much about the people we are drawn to and why. There were lines in this novel that I am still thinking about days later.

Yet again, I planned to make this book last a few days but couldn’t put it down. Another twisty, beautifully-written thriller. Absolutely loved it.

This was just an absolute, over the top, drama filled, secret laden, domestic thriller at its best! It's a fiction story so who cares if it's not the most realistic, it was still a captivating world to get caught up in as you explore these characters stories.

It's fast paced and has some really good twists! There's one or two that literally blindsighted me and I loved every second of it

The characters are well written, if unlikeable and flawed but again, that's how they're written. That's the point of the story. They are committed to be unlikeable and its written as their genuine personalities and choices. In saying that, they're not terrible characters...... just ones who's choices aren't always the best lol. Which again is something very true to life

The pace keeps up throughout and the writing style makes this an easy book to get lost in. It flows perfectly and sets such vivid scenes.

Overall, I loved it! And as I said, yes it's over the top and the characters are not people you'd be friends with but it's also a fiction book so it doesn't have to be realistic and not every character had to be a hero. That's actually partially what I liked about it! Just take it for what it is, don't try to apply real life logic to it and you're left with an amazing domestic thriller!

This book has lots of drama. It is fast paced and will keep you engaged throughout. However it is a little bit rediculous and a little too far fetched at points. But over all engaging.

This was an easy read with believable characters! The story was a little far fetched at times but kept me going as so fast paced! Saying that, there was a few unexpected twists along the way and it had a good ending! I have read this author before and would recommend if looking for an easy read

This is the first holiday Kate and Jeff have spent alone in years,Kates hoping it will be a fresh start for them long walks along the beach and falling in love again under the Spanish sun.
Then Kate runs into the girl everyone wanted to be at university,Coco .She's the same she was then confident and cool with her long flowing blonde hair.Kate invites her to their clifftop villa with its beautiful views and pristine pool to show her how her and Jeff have changed and done so well for themselves.
But when Coco enters the villa she stops and freezes in horror,Kate turns to see what's affected her so much and sees Jeff eyes wide open and face turned pale.
They pretend nothing is wrong but she knows they are lying and when she later catch them having whispered conversations she's determined to find out what's going on.When confronted the truth is worse than she could ever imagine.
And when things fall apart not all of us can walk away.
S.E Lynes has done it again her books never fail to deliver, intense believable characters make for a great page turner with plenty of twists throughout.
This will be a perfect book to read on your holidays just be careful who you bump into!!!
