A delight, but quite simplistic. Not to mention the difficulty in discerning dark text on dark portions of certain illustrations - kind of an eyestrain. Educational enough that I'd like my library branch to have a copy.
Absolutely loved it! Read it with my class and they really enjoyed it as well. The book was relatable and showed the importance of acceptance. It went great with out mostly theme
This is an excellent celebration of how different cultures across the world celebrate a new year. I think this book could be a great conversation starter and showcases that our differences are what help to bring us together!
Food, family, and cultural celebrations are centered in this picture book provided by #NetGalley and #Magination Press. The most profound and provocative parts of the story are the illustrations that are filled with color and activity. I can feel myself getting pulled into the story to celebrate New Year’s traditions in Laos, Mexico, China, Scotland, Iran, Nicaragua, and more. With a focus on cultural identity, this book opens the door to continued conversations on race and diversity and creates opportunities to learn about other cultures in a number of ways. This book is necessary in homes, classrooms, and libraries to encourage action to explore the world around us.
Cute book that discusses a common subject of holidays in a sweet way. I really appreciated the way the author discussed how many cultures celebrate similar holidays at different times and in different ways. I think the readers notes at the end for parents were especially thoughtful.
I love this book and truly believe it should have sequels for other celebrations. Even I as an adult learnt with it! Through its adorable illustrations, I was happy to also see Spain represented! A great conversation opener for a classroom and to aid teachers and children get to know each other better through their cultures.
