WoW, great read! Looking forward to the next one! When the governors daughter needs the help of a mobster to save a woman, lol the true story of opposites attract or do they?
I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own
I have no idea how I missed reviewing this, I did on Goodreads...
I love this series so much and can not wait to dive into the next one.
Rowan and Keir loved their story so much. I love how he helped her through her incredibly sad past. Ro opens up to Keir, and the relationship of convince becomes so much more.
I really loved this book! It was the perfect mafia romance and had all of my favorite tropes. From the moment Rowan and Keir met the tension and chemistry between them was so good. I loved that the progression of their relationship was a bit of a slower burn. They each had complicated feelings about each other and it took them a little while to accept those feelings. I also loved Rowan’s character! A lot of mafia romances, at least ones that I’ve read, include a female lead who is very timid and just lets people walk all over her but Rowan did not allow that. She knew what she wanted and was determined to go get it but she also had a tough past that made her vulnerable at times. I really enjoyed reading more about her past and getting to know her better as the book went on. I was also able to relate to some of the feeling she had about her parents which made me love her even more. Keir and his family were another highlight of the book for me. The way that they all worked together and their family dinners were so sweet and I really enjoyed seeing that part of him because of how tough he seemed in Rowan’s povs. This book also had a super interested plot that kept me engaged the entire time which I enjoyed because it balanced the romance in the book really well. There was definitely some suspense/high tension moments in the book which I always love since it just makes me even more interested in the book. Overall I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves mafia romances or is looking to give them a try!
I love a story where both characters are portrayed with strength instead of a dominant, toxic Alpha and a weak heroine. (Sometimes those are fun, but I love a strong heroine.) Rowan and Keir were perfectly matched to each other and each also had their interesting quirks and backstories which I won’t spoil here. Though Keir is in a position of power as a Byrne, I loved that he rarely used it too high handedly… well except that one time LOL. I loved how Rowan, though young and impulsive, was smart and as her backstory unfolded, you really understood her motivations for the things she does in the story. I thought the way her inner monologue was written was really clever and, in its own way, a bit heartbreaking.
Rowan, the governor’s perfect daughter, uncovers some truths about a family friend and paints a target on her back with dangerous people turning her way. Keir has been trying to get the governor to see eye to eye with the Byrne family on a matter when he meets the governor’s daughter. She intrigues him and their chemistry is tantalizingly hot. To garner favor with her father, Keir agrees to marry Rowan, offering her protection by claiming her as a Byrne. Unfortunately she has a boyfriend, but that won’t stop Keir. So Rowan wakes up with a tattooed ring finger, a marriage license, and no memories of the past 48 hours.
I listened to this story and have to say that Gregory Salinas and Lidia Dornet did an amazing job of portraying Keir and Rowan. Gregory toes the line of gruff alpha with a bit of a sweet middle and Lidia nailed Rowan’s challenging inner monologue. Overall, this story has a lot of twists and turns with a slightly dangerous edge. It’s spicy and Rowan’s backstory will pull at your heart. This series is one I enjoy every time I pick up the next story and I can’t wait to read what’s next.
If you want a cave man love story then this is it. Give it a go, it will take your breath away. Keir and Rowan met and sparks flew, but it is not a conventional love story, remember the cave man. I love him, I hate him, but how can I hate him!
This book was dark, addictive, and spicy all wrapped up in a nice little bow! Every book of Jill's I've read, have all had great plots and so much chemistry between all the characters, and Corrupted Union was no exception!
The plot was attention grabbing right off the bat & it had me hooked right until the very end! Rowan and Keir had a great back and forth for their chemistry, and while there was some mystery between the pair, overall they were super likeable and just a good time to read about.
Definitely a book I enjoyed & will be reading more of Jill's books now!
Thank you NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for an honest review!
4.25stars-CORRUPTED UNION is the second full-length instalment in Jill Ramsower’s contemporary, adult BYRNE BROTHERS dark, erotic, Mafia, crime world romance series. This is thirty-two year old businessman Keir Byrne, and twenty-two year old college student Rowan Alexander’s story line. CORRUPTED UNION can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.
NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Keir and Rowan) CORRUPTED UNION follows in the wake of Rowan Alexander confronting Irish Mafia member Keir Byrne inside the family home but Rowan is about to discover that all is not well in the world in which she grew up, having discovered a possible human trafficking ring involving someone she loves. Rowan Alexander is the daughter of Governor of New York, and is expected to marry someone of their own wealth and status but Rowan is desperate and finds herself on the hunt for someone to help. Enter Mafia crime lord Keir Byrne, and the man with whom Rowan will fall in love. Rowan is a single minded, stubborn young woman whose desperation has placed a target on her back, and her only means of protection is to align herself with our story line hero. What ensues is the quick building romance and relationship between Keir and Rowan, and the potential fallout as Rowan and her family are targeted as a means to an end.
Rowan Alexander is quickly falling for the man who has stolen her heart but the past refuses to let go, threatening everyone that is about to cross our heroine’s path. Betrayed by someone close, Rowan is quick to discover not all is as it appears to be including family and friendships meant to increase power and control. Keir Byrne finds himself caught between the proverbial rock and a hard place in his efforts to ferret out the truth. From a missing gun shipment to the possible involvement of the Russian Bratva, Keir knows that to protect Rowan means to claim the young woman as his own.
The relationship between Keir and Rowan begins when Rowan met Keir in the family home. Keir needed a meeting with the Governor of New York, and Rowan found herself oddly attracted to a man that could destroy her life. Rowan was desperate to help Keir uncover the truth but constantly placed herself in danger, threatening not only her life but the people she loved. The $ex scenes are intimate and provocative without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
The secondary and supporting characters includes Keir’s cousin Conner and his wife Noemi (Silent Vows 1), his father and Nana, cousins Tor, Oran and wife Caitlin, as well as Rowan’s parents Governor Evan and Mrs. Alexander; Shipping magnate Lawrence Wellington and his son Stetson. The requisite evil has many faces.
CORRUPTED UNION is a story of power and control, betrayal and vengeance, secrets and lies, protection and understanding, acceptance and love. The character driven premise is twisted and dramatic; the characters are strong, forceful and charismatic; the romance is passionate and intense.

I have quickly become a fan of Jill Ramsower! Her books are excellent reads! This storyline was riveting and the characters were complicated. I loved the suspense and couldn't guess how it would all work out. I will be going back to pick up book one and then continuing the series. I'm invested. We get a glimpse into the next book. Torin and Stormy's story can't get here fast enough!
I wasn't sure at first how this trope would work. I wanted to see how the unwanted wedding was going to work. But it was actually kinda good. I like their dynamic and how the story was written. It was a good idea a'd a good book overall.
A good steamy romance that keeps the reader interested. Will probably pick more up by this author. Thanks NetGalley
When Keir broke into Rowan’s family home he was only there to make a case to Rowan’s dad. To keep a bad man out of a position of power.
When he didn’t scare Rowan by being in her parents home, he knew there was something different about her. He wants to know about her and when she comes to him for help he can’t simply walk away.
Rowan has been in a box of her own making since she was a little girl. She had to be perfect in every way.
This had a lot of twists that kept this book on a fast pace. I enjoyed Keir ripping down Rowan’s walls and getting to see the real her. She had a huge trauma as a child and it has made her who she is today. Keir was instrumental in helping Rowan break the mold that she thought she had to fit into.
Keir did what he had to do to keep her safe but what Rowan didn’t know is he wasn’t letting her go.
This book was the perfect blend of sexy, seductive and suspenseful!
Fast paced, gritty, and oh… sooo good, from the opening scene when Rowan and Keir meet, I just knew great things were going to happen!
Who knew breaking into your father’s house could be sexy!
Well this book had it all!
Hot Irish mafioso underworld meet the governor’s daughter! What happens between them was priceless!
This unconventional romance had it all in spades! More importantly these characters had a lot of heart and soul and I couldn’t get enough of them and their twisted journey!
This is book 2 in the Byrne Brothers series and although I had not read the prior books, I had no trouble following and enjoying this read.
However I will be reading them all and I cannot wait to see what happens next!
Corrupted Union is book two in the Bryne Brothers and is Rowan and Keir's book. This book was so good and such a good read. I love Keir and Rowan. If you love a mafia romance packed with action and spice, then this book is for you. i can't wait to see what's next.
I loved Keir and Rowan's story. I love that push and pull in the beginning and how they both challenge each other. Also, their chemistry is off the charts. I really enjoy this world and these characters. Im excited for whats next.
Whoo hoo, after Silent Vows, I was very happy to learn that there would be more mafia guys on the market from Jill.
The best way to describe this book: Intense, sharky and funny.
Both Rowan and Keir are headstrong characters, with a big mouth. You never know what’s coming from them, even at ridiculous moments. And that is just hilarious.
The story of the how and why of Rowan’s abduction and wedding is intense. So, don’t start this book if you don’t have time to finish it in one read, because the suspense will kill you.
Five out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.
A fantastic Irish mafia romance and the second book in the Byrne Brothers series, Corrupted Union began with Keir Byrne looking for a way to exert pressure on New York’s Governor and what better way in than his only daughter. But Rowan wasn’t the spoilt socialite Keir expected. She doesn’t fear him or even care who he is. She’s strong and confident but her eyes are filled with secrets he’s determined to uncover.
This was an amazing book centred around a marriage of convenience……although does it still count as convenience if the bride is drugged into saying I do? Their initial meeting might have been a bit unconventional and Keir and Rowan are complete opposites from different worlds with Keir the older Irish mob boss and Rowan who has devoted her life to being the perfect politicians daughter but Keir is the only person to ever really look at her and see the pain she carries daily. With a gripping storyline involving human trafficking and familial treachery Corrupted Union was a fantastic addition to what is quickly becoming my favourite series from Jill Ramsower.
Now please tell me we haven’t heard the last of the mysterious Russian Damyon aka The Shadow? Now there’s a character who has me intrigued.
Corrupted Union is my favourite of The Byrne Brothers series so far. It was full of suspense, danger, action, steam, and plot twists I didn’t see coming. I was hooked from start to finish.
They say opposites attract. Well that is definitely the case for Keir and Rowan. The chemistry between these two characters is off the charts.
Can’t wait for the next book in this series.
I absolutely loved this book and read it in one day. Couldn't put it down!! Mafia romance at its best.
Corrupted Union, the story of Rowan and Keir, is Book 2 in the Bryne Brothers series and can be read as a standalone.
