First off, how readers are introduced to Keir and Rowan is really amazing, and truly left readers NEEDING this book ASAP! It is very clear that Jill Ramsower likes to tease her readers…and friends she is very good at it! One of the things that makes mafia different from other romance books is the “meet cute” Keir and Rowan’s introduction did not disappoint and the way the pair were drawn to each other from the start made this book impossible to put down.
Keir is the oldest son and is working hard to find his place in the Byrne family as the eldest son of the eldest. Keir works in legitimate and not so legitimate parts of the family business and has little time for a social life. He is pretty closed off and doesn’t trust many people. Until he stumbles upon Rowan Alexander- the woman he cannot stop thinking about her.
Rowan is the only daughter of the influential governor of New York. I really felt like her father is a good guy, but might be a little blinded by what others around him are involved in, but at his core he is a good guy that loves his family. Rowan is fierce and as the story unfolds you understand where her strength comes from. Rowan’s past impacts her so much that even those close to her can’t see just how much.
Throughout this book Ramsower gives readers a peek into the underbelly of the rich and powerful that often are overlooked when people are looking for the bad guys. The drama didn’t end with New York politics, the Byrne family had some of their own! But the political side that often plays into the mafia world was so fascinating and the inner workings of a mafia family kept me wanting more and more from this family.
To outsiders Rowan and Keir might not be an odd pair because they have such chemistry and their banter is top notch. At every turn Rowan left Keir speechless, and he wasn’t sure what to do with that! In turn Keir challenged Rowan, encouraged her to follow her passion, loved her for her quirks, and is such a fierce protector. He truly is amazing book boyfriend material, he gives off total touch her and die vibes….his soft place in the world is definitely Rowan. If you love a family mafia this is a must read, in my opinion! This series is top notch, and Ramsower is a gifted writer and she has very quickly become a one-click author for me!
This was a great mafia romance with excellent writing and well developed main characters. The plot was really interesting, as was the relationship development between Keri and Rowan. The author did a great job writing the tension and chemistry between them and their feelings for each other grew in a way that felt authentic. Both of them were mature with thankfully no childlike behavior or unnecessary drama. There were some great secondary characters whose stories I look forward to reading. The storyline flowed really well and wrapped up with a great HEA for this couple. I’m looking forward to reading more of this series.
CORRUPTED UNION by JILL RAMSOWER is book Two in The Byrne Brothers Series. This is the story of Rowan and Keir. I have read the previous book which did add to my enjoyment of this one. So, I do think you should read them in order. Rowan is a good women who tries to do the right thing and to keep her family happy. But when something comes up that she needs help with she turns to Keir. Keir is the bad boy with the protective attitude with love. I am a huge fan of Ms. Ramsower so I do recommend her writing and this book/series.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book provided to me. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
If you like suspense, mystery and marriage of convenience, this book is for you!
Keir may have a brooding demeanor and be intimidating as all out, but his touch my girl and I end you had me at hello.
Rowan attempts to please her parents, go to college, date the guy her parents want her to be with, but then Rowan asks for Keir’s help. And boy, oh boy, did he save her. Though Rowan isn’t afraid to go toe to toe with the devil himself! Get it girl!
“What have you done?”
“I did what I had to do to keep you safe.”
Jill Ramsower is known for writing tough heroines. Women who don’t back down can hold their own. Until a man comes in and shows them that they don’t always need to stand alone but can share the weight with someone and still be strong. That someone is those strong men!
I am so obsessed with the Byrne Brothers series by Jill Ramsower it isn't even funny. After reading Silent Vows I was so ready for Corrupted Union . I absolutely adore Keir and and could not get enough of him and Rowan. This story was sexy, full of deliciously banter and so addicting!
Overall I loved this story! Keir and Rowan were a great couple. He brought out the real person she was inside instead of the front she portrayed to the world. Likewise, she was the only person to make the unshakable Keir lose control. I loved Keir's possessive and protective personality and his connection with Rowan. This story was sexy and emotional and now I can't wait for Tor's story! P.S. is it wrong that I also want Damyon's story!? 4 stars! ~Ratula
Jill Ramsower's Corrupted Union is a fast-paced roller-coaster of tragedy, betrayal, and suspenseful twists.
Getting to know bad boy Keir Byrne and wholesome Rowan Alexander was exciting! These two characters are pushed together due to outside forces, but they quickly realize their souls are calling out to each other. Keir helps Rowan confront past ghosts and find healing through acceptance and love.
I enjoyed their connection and the angst between them as they struggled with what they needed from one another. I was impressed with how they worked through their issues, especially Rowan's grief and mental health. Keir conquered his demons before meeting Rowan and knew precisely how to challenge her.
Keir and Rowan's feelings for each other, their sexual tension, and their passion were palpable. The intimate scenes are exceptionally well-written and sensual. I would love to have seen more of those delectable encounters between them!
Corrupted Union by Jill Ramsower is recommended for readers looking for an easy-to-read, plot-driven romance with an alpha-male lead and a strong-willed heroine fighting for what's right!
Dual POV
The Byrne Brothers series consists of interconnected standalone novels; Corrupted Union is book 2.
Thank you, NetGalley and Victory Editing Co-op, for providing an advanced copy of this book; all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Man oh man is Rowan sassy! Controlled!
Keir is trying to figure her out! Heck, he's trying to figure himself out!
Rowan is trying to be a good girl! Can she though?
Is this temporary? Will Keir be able to let her go? Will she…will they survive!
This was exciting, sexy and suspenseful!
Ms. Ramsower has done it again!
I didn't want to put this story down it was so good!
I absolutely adored Keir!
Corrupted Union by Jill Ramsower is book 2 in the Bryne Family Series. It is an engaging read that will keep your attention from page one!
At the end of Savage Vow, I was desperately waiting for who was in Keir’s arms. This series has become a serious obsession for me. Keir and Rowan’s story exceeded all my expectations.
Rowan is simply a true kick-butt heroine. She is both strong and unguarded. She fearlessly faces off with the devil himself, and her unwavering strength is truly inspiring. Even at her lowest point, she never gives up the fight.
Keir is a complete alphahole but in the best way possible. His brooding demeanor and touch her and die vibes are everything I love in a protective hero. The way he supports Rowan and never gives up on her is simply swoon-worthy. His understanding and connection to Rowen is what makes romance so amazing.
So much unexpected in this story. I was engaged from the moment it started, seriously she tried to hold him at knife point. The chemistry between these two is electrifying. The unexpected plot twists that brought me to tears and kept me on the edge of my seat. Jill Ramsower ‘s ability to combine heart-wrenching emotion with action and thrills is truly masterful. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a must-read story.
I probably should start this by admitting that I read it in a day. Not because it was too short or too light or anything like that, but simply because once I started I didn't want to put it down.
It will probably come as no surprise then that I loved this romance between Rowan and Keir, they seemed so well suited and the way that they were able to open up and be with each other worked so well. It was easy to see that they should be together.
Having said that, there was one aspect of their romance that I wasn't on board with, or rather the way that he dealt with it. I think I would have preferred if that had been done slightly differently, but overall I still really enjoyed the book and finding out about these characters. Particularly the hidden pain and past that Rowen was dealing with.
There is a character in this book called Stetson. I don't think I've ever come across a name like that before, but surely it's verging on child abuse and who knows what someone saddled with that name would end up like!
This was another great read from Jill Ramsower and one I really enjoyed, I can't wait for the next.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own and given voluntarily.
This 5 star story got me out off the book funk I’ve been in. I love a good mafia romance but the kind this author writes. Not too deep in the mafia world but scratches the surface of it. Because I still love a good romance.
Rowan is a fierce young lady who fights for what’s right. So this got her in deep trouble with the wrong kind of people. Keir likes women whose got a strong back bone. So he will protect her at every cost. It also helps that they are attracted to each other.
I loved this story very much. It was unique with a plot twist that sucked me in and kept my undivided attention throughout. The storyline was beautifully written and quite entertaining. I loved these amazing characters and how they were perfectly developed. Bottomline this is a must read. I can’t wait for more.
Standalone told in a dual POV with an HEA. I strongly recommend this story
“…I chose you, and I will continue to choose you so long as you’ll let me.”
Corrupted Union is the second book in The Byrne Brothers series. It can be read as a standalone but I enjoyed the first book so I would have ended up reading it anyway. So, I recommend starting at the beginning. We met Keir in the first book, Silent Vows, and his character was very cryptic, so I was excited for the chance to get a better view of his character. I was hooked after the first chapter and with all the suspense and twists, I could not put the book down. I loved how Rowan was able to convince the solemn Keir to open up. His character was such a mystery but not with Rowan!
This was a new-to-me author until I started this series and I have really enjoyed reading her books. I absolutely adored Keir and Rowan’s cute meet! The book ends with a surprise that leads us into the next book. I will definitely be on the lookout for more of her books and the next one in the series.
I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Another amazing book in this lost gripping of series. I loved Silent Vows and so was in a high going into this book and my goodness Kier and Rowan do not disappoint.
Kier is just as much the alpha bad boy we suspected from the first book with an iron will and soft spot for his grandparents and family. But that mushy side is a little bigger than you think and so when the man falls, he goes Hard!!
I loved how he confronted his feelings and went for his chance with Rowan even when that put him at opposition with his family.
Rowan was living her life on a cloud, seemingly a fluffy white perfect cloud with a perfect life and everything a girl might want, but really, so much darkness surrounded her and at times I felt her actions were of a woman who truly didn’t care about her own safety. But Rowan was inherently strong and had found coping mechanisms to love her life in a way that worked for her (and how I loved how Kian embraced these too…)
Twists and turns, love, hate and enough passion to burn the pages, this book grabs you and spits you out at the other end begging for more.
So…more please 🙏
This was an absolute enjoyable book! It has heartache, love that starts off untraditional, and family issues. You will absolutely love how Rowan meets Keir and how their relationship develops as the story progresses! It was an absolute delight! I was given an ARC through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Wowzer! Jill Ramsower sure does know how to write addictive suspenseful romance novels!!! Corrupted Union is the second installment in the Byrne Brothers series and it was absolutely unputdownable! The pacing was lightening fast and had me on the edge of my seat majority of the time. I loved how developed the characters are and I thought their chemistry was palpable! This book can be read as a standalone, but I highly recommend you start with the first novel (Silent Vow) because it was fantastic! I am already looking forward to the next book and I really hope Jill Ramsower continues this series for a very long time!
Keir and Rowan meet in an unusual way thet leads to some unperditable drama and solutions.
Rowan also has some emotional problems that come to light and are resolved.
Keir and Rowan are great characters, lots of drama, suspense, twists and romance.
Enjoyed the story.
Vluntarily reviewed.
I have waited for what feels like a life time for this book! I am finding that this series is a serious obsession for me! Keir and Rowan’s story was much more than I anticipated!
Rowan is a straight kick butt heroine! I have to start this off with talking about my girl crush for her because she does toe to toe with the devil and doesn’t bat an eye! Her strength my goodness is just beautiful! Even at her weakest point she is amazing because she fights! Keir though, surprises me at every turn while also being the strong, broody alpha that he is! The way he held Rowan up and didn’t give up…..total swoon!
The twists in this story are what got me chocked up and surprised me! Jill definitely packed an emotional punch while keeping on edge with action and thrills! A definite must read!
4.5 stars.
I liked this one even more than the first. Once I started, this was an easy book to get into. I was instantly pulled into it from chapter one when Rowan and Keir met under the most interesting circumstances. I began appreciating Rowan’s character and her determination to get to the bottom of the truth after discovering something in her boyfriend’s house that she shouldn’t have. When informing her father of it, who didn’t want to believe her, she searched out Keir to get his help on this.
The chemistry between the characters is instant. I realllllly liked Keir’s character, even more than Connor from book 1. His drive for his own truths is great. His easy relationship/friendship/protectiveness that blooms from just being around Rowan.
Easy book to get into and I look forward to book 3. The only reason this isn’t a full 5 stars is because while the characters’ chemistry was nearly instant, I felt it actually faded away over the course of the book, particularly toward the end. Almost like the book needed to be longer and more paced.
This may appear to be a case of mismatched people, or an advantage taken by one, but I assure it isn’t. Oh, no. I mean, fine. Yeah. An advantage is taken. But not the way you’d think. Keir and Rowan have an intriguing first encounter, a completely unsettling second (for both of them), and then the third? Yeah, that one seals the deal. She’s his. And he’s not letting her go.
This is a bit gritty, a bit tinged by deep shadows, and a LOT excellent. While Keir and Rowan get to know what makes each other tick, they also have to figure out how to deal with a few dilemmas. And none of them are of the safe variety. All roads lead to danger, but it’s a question of how to deal with it and who will do the saving. Or maybe they both will. Regardless, I didn’t want to put this down because I just had to know who’s behind which betrayal and why. I also had to know how Keir and Rowan would fare, even if it was obvious that they’re perfectly matched. And I wasn’t disappointed one bit.
But now I have to wait for Tor and Stormy. I’m pretty sure there are some big secrets to be uncovered there.
I am sad to announce I had to DNF this one.
There was no flavor to the characters whatsoever, felt like reading a copy paste of so many other “enemies-to-lovers” mafia books.
Too cliché.
There was potential to a really interesting plot, but it was dragged out too much…
Obsessed with this series!
Keir and Rowan’s story completely blew my mind. The emotional punch it dealt with me was unexpected.
Both of them came across as mysterious and I loved that as the story started unfolding, their characters did too.
Connected from the initial meeting itself, Big bad wolf Keir was a goner. I enjoyed that he was all like cold and ‘I don’t care for anyone other than my family’ but the moment Rowan was in danger, comes running. Meanwhile Rowan was so damn brave and feisty. They had scorching hot chemistry and were so hot together.
I also loved how they talked out their problems and pains with each other.
Enjoyed the suspense too. There were so many heart rate increasing moments. The ending was so cute.
I highly recommend this series.
P.s heroine was in a ‘mild’ relationship when they meet and kiss initially but it didn’t bother me.
—he is soft only for her.
—found fam, forced proximity, mafia romance.
