Very interesting and unique exploration into different culinary worlds. Beautiful photography and compelling recipes that make the reader not only want to experience the food but the cultures as well.
This was just OK. I am a fan of Gordon for sure, but this fell a little flat and the preview didn't give many recipes to see. I'd like something a little more approachable when I'm drooling over recipes; I'd like to see stuff I can actually make/replicate in my own kitchen. This is definitely more of an inspiration/coffee table type book than one I'd go back to time and time again during dinner.
I I really enjoyed this book as a companion to the TV show. To sum it up, Gordon goes to various locations and has a cooking competition with a local chef. He sources local ingredients by meeting the people who produce/catch them, and the end is the cook off for the people he met along the way.
The recipes look delicious but they sometimes have hard to get ingredients which is disappointing. I enjoyed learning about the places he went in more detail, 5 stars.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley, I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
I didn’t realize it’s a sample only and was looking for more pages lol! I love the stories and pictures of the culture and people. I can’t wait to try out the spare ribs. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy.
What incredible adventures in the world and through FOOD...
Thank you for sharing this book with me. Now I am hungry and want to book many plane tickets
Calling all Gordon Ramsay fans! What a refreshing perspective to see of one our favorite chefs. Recently, we just started exploring outdoors intently and it aligned well with the inspiration pulled from this cookbook. I loved the images provided in this book and all the recipes read in Gordon Ramsay's voice.
It offers classic recipes with new takes and beautiful photos. It' make a great coffee table book or a gift to those who love to travel.
Funny enough considering the way I gobble up cookbooks and binge cooking shows like it's my job, I've never read one of the renowned Chef Ramsay's cookbooks.
This wasn't a bad one, but I'm not sure it's the one I should've started with. Photographs were great, the stories behind the recipes were great, but I think I should've gone into it like I'm reading a really interesting travel guide written from the perspective of someone who travels to eat and cook for a living. The recipes didn't really feel like we're meant to attempt them so much as we're supposed to be aware of them. Which I love in a travel guide but not so much in a cookbook.
Long story short, my only gripes about this book came down to the perspective I read from. It was still enjoyable all around, and my love for Gordon Ramsay endures.
Thanks muchly to NetGalley and the publisher for a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoyed reading through this and matching Gordon Ramsay's recipes with his experiences in life. This book was a really cool twist on a recipe book mixed with a travelguide. Truly enjoyed.
4.25/5 stars! I love anything Gordon Ramsay so I was really excited to read this. A lot of the recipes did feel complicated for the average reader, but I found a few amazing options to try out in my kitchen. I thought the beautiful part of this book was explaining the way different places and cultures handle cooking. I can't wait to try some of these foods.
I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review
I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. Stories, recipes, and photographs from Gordon Ramsey's Uncharted travels.
This is a review of an ARC snippet of the book. The photography is really gorgeous and is a clear tie-in to National Geographic. The overall vibe of the book is more travel than kitchen-centric. As the book explores dishes across different cultures, there may be specialty ingredients that render these recipes inaccessible.
Gordon Ramsey travels to unique parts of the world in search of unique eats, cultural finds and food history. If you love to eat and are on the adventurous side, you will love this book. Great blend of food, culture and travel.
This book combined three of my favorite things: cooking, travel, and reading. The images were beautiful and the stories were robust. My electronic copy via NetGalley wasn’t complete, but I loved what I read.
Such a great read! I am a long time fan of Hell’s Kitchen, so I love getting to see chef Ramsey in a newer lighter light. The prose portion was very well written and I cannot wait to make some of the amazing recipes.
Uncharted is a delightful culinary adventure that takes readers on a journey to some of the world's most remote and fascinating locations. Through vivid narratives, Gordon Ramsay explores rich food traditions and cultures in 25 remarkable destinations, offering behind-the-scenes glimpses of his experiences filming the National Geographic Channel show. The book not only serves up 60 mouthwatering and authentic recipes, but also provides insights from top chefs worldwide, making it a perfect blend of travel inspiration, cultural exploration, and a must-have addition to any foodie's kitchen repertoire.
Kind regards to #NetGalley for the ARC exchange for an Honest Review.
Gordon's Ramsay's Uncharted is a beautiful weaving of remote locations cultures and the role and tastes of those foods. The few recipes I could see in the preview look delicious. I strongly recommend this book. Can't wait to see the finished project.
National Geographic put this book out and you sure can tell, as there were alot of colorful pictures. Gordon Ramsay did a good job telling about the region he was in and about the recipes that were native to each country.
Gordon Ramsay's Uncharted: A Culinary Adventure With 60 Recipes From Around the Globe is the adaptation of the National Geographic show into a travel cookbook. The chef visits places like Peru, Morocco, Louisiana, Maine, the Smoky Mountains, and Wales, to name a few. Not just about the recipes, this travel guide includes beautiful photographs, stories about the individual cuisines, and marketplaces. There are also spotlight stories, such as Foraging with the King of the Mushrooms.
Overall, Gordon Ramsay's Uncharted was more coffee table book than cookbook, but would be great for fans of the chef and for those who like to travel. This would be a great gift for the adventurer in your life. I learned a great deal about different places, ones that I might like to visit in the future. The balance between the places visited and the recipes was good, though I do wish there had been more dishes to explore on my own.
Disclaimer: I was given the opportunity to read this travel book by NetGalley and the publisher. The decision to read and review this book was entirely my own.
This book isn't my favorite, Gordon Ramsay has many other quality cookbooks, but has wide appeal for fans of cooking and travel. Recommended for larger library's where cookbooks and travel books are popular.
Thank you to Netgalley for this Advanced Copy of Gordon Ramsay's Uncharted. It was a very fun read and a solid coffee table or gift book selection.
