The book follows Kate who after a glass of wine posts something that ends up with her losing her job. After her fall from grace, she ends up taking a job at Treetops, a place off the grid. It's a perfect reminder of the beauty that comes from a detour. I loved how the author tackled grieving the past and moving forward. Enjoyed it so much.
An interesting light read. I am not going to leave a spoiler but there was an incident that bothered me and the way it was handled. Other than that, it was an interesting escape read.
Many thanks to Kensington and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I loved the idea for the plot of this novel. But it didn't hold my attention very well.
*Great storytelling
*Little 🌶️ spicy romance- had to skip some paragraphs
*Wide array of characters with differing personalities
*Some humor
*Rollercoaster of a ride read
*Includes discussion questions- perfect for Book Clubs!
In debut author Robin Lefler's Reasonable Adults, a recently fired and newly single marketing professional, Kate, finds herself taking a position at a luxury resort in the Canadian wilderness only to discover that this job is going to be no walk in the park. The retreat, the Treetops, is severely outdated and is lacking in enough bookings to even keep it afloat. Can Kate turn things around at the Treetops, while also juggling passive aggressive bosses, a 70 pound Goldendoodle, and potential love?
Reasonable Adults is a novel with an exciting premise and atmospheric location, but unfortunately its storyline is disorganized and erratic. The book suffers from a bloated supporting character list that is nearly impossible to keep track of, while the main character and love interest are frankly, insufferable. Reasonable Adults, a book about a young woman finding her footing again after experiencing loss and humiliation on multiple fronts, is primed to center around soul-searching and personal growth, but unfortunately, Lefler took this novel down a more plot-driven path, throwing a series of hijinks and antics at readers without anything to ground them. I personally could not connect to this story or its characters, making this a rather dull and insipid read for me.
I wanted to love this book so much, but it honestly just fell flat to me. I did read it all - and I liked it, but I don’t know if I’d recommend it to others.
This was an amazing rom-com that featured a great set of characters. Kate became my favorite. She was portrayed as a woman doing a passionless job and undergoes a major character development. Matt Reid was also a walking green flag.
There were several other characters as well, who made this story interesting. Kate trying to fix the Treetops Creative Retreat was also something that I loved reading.
Overall, this book had everything to satiate the romance reader in me.
REASONABLE ADULTS by Robin Lefler tells the story of a thirtysomething woman who, after being ousted from her job in marketing, takes a mysterious, too good to be true job offer in a remote resort. The premise was incredibly appealing and I was so excited to receive this ARC!
Sadly, I ended up DNF-ing this novel, after I really struggled to connect to the characters and the plot. I also took issue with the handling of a very sensitive topic - trigger alert of sexual assault - and how the author seemingly glossed over this in a weird, almost victim blaming kind of way. At this point, I realized this wasn't the book for me. Giving 3 stars as I don't want to leave a needlessly bad review, and others may enjoy this story more than I did.
Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books, Kensington for this ARC, which I received in exchange for my honest review.
Kate is a marketing executive, single woman, in her 30s that recently lost her job and her lying fiancé. She receives an offer for a seasonal job at an artist retreat. Of course, the job is too good to be true. She encounters a resort that's stuck in the 90s and not willing to make any changes. She is also her boss's main target to pick on and use as an example of what not to do. She contemplates quitting or actually sticking it out and see what she can achieve.
I really enjoyed this book. I haven't read many books were the female mc is working on her career and bettering herself. I liked seeing Kate fight back and try to make a difference. I enjoyed the cast of employees at the resort. Only thing I wasn't feeling was the romance. I think the book would've been strong without Matt, to be honest. Overall, it was a fun book and I will look forward to reading more by the author.
Congratulations to @robin_she_writes on your debut novel, Reasonable Adults. I was given a copy by @netgalley and @kensingtonbooks to review and this was a fun book to get into.
After an angry, wine fueled social media post costs Kate her job, and her dignity she needs a new one fast. A too good to be true opportunity to be the new Marketing Manager for Treetops resort in the Canadian wilderness seems like a miracle. But she quickly learns this miracle had more then a few rough edges, even if it does come with one very handsome co-worker. It doesn’t matter because staff relationships, as well as any 21st century technology and ideas are off limits.
This was a fast paced read with a setting that makes you want to book a room so you can experience Treetops and it’s stunning scenery as well. The staff at Treetops was such a fun well written band of side characters I would read an entire book about any of them, or all of them again.

this had so much potential and some parts were super cute — eric, anyone?? but more than anything, i was just bored. there were sooooo many characters introduced and i had a hard time keeping track of them all. on top of that, the romance fell flat. there was zero emotional connection between kate and matt. it was all physical and i got tired of the constant comments about how hot he was. towards the end, i bumped up the narration to 3x just so i could finish it.
thanks to the publisher for an advanced copy. my thoughts are my own.

Even though I have listed trigger warnings, they are not a big part of the story or the plot. Somehow RL somehow still manages to keep the story light.
Kate feels like a failure after her drunken poor choices. She was OK at her job but she never put her all into it until she found Treetops Creative Retreat thanks to her BFF, Ros sending and ad her way. And once again she did stuff while she was drunk. (No she is not an alcoholic. She just drinks too much on those few truly bad days) She ended up applying for this job that she didn't think she was actually qualified for. This place is where she truly tries her hardest to get the work right for a change.
The dialogue has some great snark and sarcasm. I love that in a romcom! The story has 2 potential love interests that kept me guessing for a bit. Then we needed to see how she was going to screw up this job now. Does she get it right? Which guy does she get? Can she keep him? And then there are the 2 doggies that everyone loves. I loved them too!

Lovely, lovely book, I love it super cute and cozy!
Highly recommended 💕
Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for the copy
It is a good story in comparison to other romance books I've read. the setting is in Canada during the winter season which appealed to me straight away. There are a lot of people introduced in this book and it can take quite some time to see how that all works together. I did miss some more character development and their was too much focus on some small parts. If you need to read something simple and easy this is a book for you.
reasonable adults that are written like misbehaving children. not certain if this story just fell short in the character development department, but it was not one i'd read again.

The morning after a humiliating post-breakup social media post (#sponsoredbywine), Kate Rigsby learns she’s lost her marketing job along with her almost-fiancé. Worse, she realizes how little she truly cared about either. Craving a reset, Kate flees the big-city life she spent many years building—and almost as many doubting—to take a temporary gig at Treetops, a swanky, off-the-grid creative retreat in Muskoka, complete with meditation circles, deluxe spa, and artisanal cocktails. At least, that’s what the brochure promises . . .
The reality is a struggling resort that’s stuck in the 1990s, fax machine included. Kate’s office is a bunker, her boss is a nightmare, and at night she shares a freezing hut with her seventy-pound Goldendoodle. Then there’s the sexy, off-limits coworker whose easy smile and lumberjack forearms are distracting Kate from the already near-impossible task of making this snowbound oasis profitable.
On the upside, the surroundings are breathtaking. The Treetops crew is quirky and (mostly) kind. And somehow, Kate’s starting to feel new enthusiasm for her career—and her life. In fact, she’s daring to challenge herself in ways she never dreamed of before.
I wanted to love this book. The summary is amazing. Unfortunately the book leave a lot to be desired. I have very mixed feelings about this book. Half of the time I couldn’t follow the storyline. There was no clear direction and it seemed scattered to me. I didn’t really connect with Kate at all as a character , but I really enjoyed some of the other characters at Treetops. This book did not pull me in at all and I found the romance in the storyline to be lacking in any kind of chemistry. All in all, I’d say this one is a skipper.

normally I am pretty much in agreement with the average goodreads rating (besides a few niche reads that I fear went over my head). but let me just say, justice for Reasonable Adults! it deserves better and I will be convincing my friends to read and review post haste!
the banter was so quirky and cute, and the main character had exactly the kind of chaotic energy that I love (and maybe even have a little bit of myself). the romantic plot-line wasn’t too big of a part, and it did not detract at all from the cutesy Hallmark-esque “turn the failing business” around plot. a very fun and enjoyable winter read!
A 90s vibe writers' retreat that takes place during winter? I'm sold! Kate Rigsby's story is straight out of a Hallmark movie in the best possible way. This contemporary novel is pure escapism into the chilly Canadian wilds - perfect reading for this upcoming holiday season. Also the attractive lumberjack trope? All the romance readers have gotta love it. This witty, entertaining romcom is the perfect distraction from the real world. Kate's escapades are comforting, fun, and more than a little enviable. This workplace romance is ideal for fans of Talia Hibbert and Lucy Score.
3.75/5
This would be a great holiday read but it doesn't need to be! I read it in the fall and I found it to be such a cozy escape from the real world. The character development is really great, especially for the supporting characters. I also absolutely loved the setting. Treetops is really a character of its own in this story. I would go visit it if it were revealed to be a real place.
If you are having a difficult time at your job in real life, or maybe your boss is too demanding...give this a read and see if maybe you come away thinking oh... it could be a lot worse couldn't it? lol
I'm very thankful to Kensington Books for access to this title on NetGalley.
