Unfortunately I had to DNF this book because I just could not get past the SA scene. It’s really disappointing that the situation is so victim blamey and Kate still ends up with him? Leaves a bad taste in my mouth that SA is used as a ‘stepping stone’ for the story to progress, with no other good way of putting it. Apart from this the main characters had 0 chemistry, and I honestly really didn’t care for where the story was going.
The few things I did like was the setting (quite charming), and the dog.
Reasonable Adults by Robin Lefler reads more like women's fiction than romance. Kate's personal growth and story and the Treetops staff take the focal point and the romance seems more secondary. It was mostly lighthearted and funny, but the attempted SA and how it was written left a bad taste in my mouth and nothing felt resolved from it. I don't like how it seemed to be used as a plot device to keep the main character and love interest separate.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the Publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This is a cute debut novel set in a winter wonderland. I absolutely love the cover and felt some of those vibes in the book. I was definitely entertained and it was well written. It was missing a little ooomph that I can’t quite pinpoint, but certainly a nice escape read.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for giving me an ARC copy of this book to read and review. All of these thoughts and comments are my own.
I really wanted to like this. I thought it was going to be a cute wintery type romance and it just wasn’t at all. This book fell really flat for me and I almost didn’t finish it. The main reason I did finish it was because it was a NetGalley arc.
This romance was flat. There was hardly any romance at all. I didn’t see any chemistry between Matt and Kate. They really just seemed to want to hook up and it was kinda boring. I didn’t really connect with any characters because they just felt like they didn’t have any personality. There were parts in the book that made no sense being in here and just threw me off.
Even though I didn’t enjoy this read, others may. I’m giving a generous 3 stars.
This was such a cute and quirky book. Kate loses her marketing job and extremely awful boyfriend in one go. To try get back on top of her life she takes a marketing job for an outback TreeTops resort, which is said to be the perfect retreat for artists and newly minted.
However all is not what it seems. Everything is working against her. Except for the extremely hot co-worker. Slowly her heart is thawed by the frozen wonderland and she starts to fight for the resort from her heart.
Warm and engaging and totally over-the-top.
Really fun read.
Thanks NetGalley and Kensington Books for the ARC of this book; these honest opinions are my own.
My feelings on this book wavered. I struggled at first to get into it at all. It felt a bit slow. I wasn't fond of the FMC (Kate) and her self sabatoge. Her closest friends weren't super likeable (their version of tough love felt more bullish).
Then the main character takes a leap and travels to Northern Canada for a unique job opportunity. The book starts to catch my interest. But then the struggles of this new job were just hard to buy into. I found myself frustrated that she stayed - but then I felt like ok - she's gonna turn this job into success.
There's a trope of "found family" that liked - and some resemblance of a romantic interest. It helped me to keep turning the page.
I struggled a bit with the ending. It's not quite how I would've liked it wrapped up but it wasn't terrible either. All in all, I found this book a middle of the road read. Didn't love, didn't loathe.
Overall: 2.8/5
Spice: 0.1/5
This modern romance novel will not break any boundaries. But if you're after a romance that follows all the rules and doesn't really contain any surprises, then you'll probably really enjoy it. It ticks all the boxes for a modern romance - exotic location, handsome male love interest, female lead who's actually pretty smart but needs to get her act together, annoying characters that the female lead needs to win over - that sort of thing.
I enjoyed the snowbound Canadian location and appreciated the lack of slapstick comedy and explicit sex scenes. But it really didn't light any fires with me, unfortunately.
3.5 stars
We follow along with Kate who recently went through a break up and lost her job. Kate took a chance on a temporary job, that would make her money and give her time to figure out her next steps.
Kate ended up finding her spark and passion at Treetops, along with some new friends and a cute boy!
Reasonable Adults was an easy read. I felt the beginning dragged on and felt like Kate would never get her head above water with being at Treetops, but the second half really picked up. The love interest grew, friendships developed and the plot became more exciting.
I can’t wait to see what this author does next!
Thank you NetGalley and Kensington Books for the ARC.
It's the sarcasm and wit in this book that made it for me!!
How I would describe this book - a fun laugh out loud light read. Definitely perfect for a lay by the pool pick and down book that will leave you feeling good.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Reasonable Adults by Robin Lefler! The wry, sarcastic wit present throughout the book makes for an enjoyable page-turner of a book. I also enjoyed reading a book set in Canada and having a definite Canadian flavour.
The character of Kate is sympathetic and relatable, and the supporting characters are varied and intriguing. I couldn't help but root for Kate as she stumbles through roadblocks set in her path, some due to her own mistakes and others due to circumstances beyond her control.
I would be interested in reading more about these characters.
I am happy to have received an ARC of #ReasonableAdults from #NetGalley .
Reasonable Adults is Robin Lefler's debut RomCom novel.
Kate is in a dead-end job (and is fired from the job within the first couple chapters) ... and stumbles into a marketing position for a posh retreat/spa location in northern Canada (November - February). Her trusty side kick is an ill-mannered dog.
I enjoyed Reasonable Adults (although I'm not sure that I understand the title). Personally I think that other reviews are a bit harsh, maybe I'm rounding up for the debut author. Honestly, I needed something light and Reasonable Adults held my attention. I'd bee interested to see what Roben Lefler writes next.
Thank you to NetGalley for introducing me to another debut author! Thank you for the opportunity to review the advance read copy of Reasonable Adults in exchange for an honest review. Thank you the author for persevering and completing your debut novel, wishing you much success! Thank you to publisher Kensington Books for approving my advance read request.
This is a cozy, sweet read that was endlessly relatable. I love the cover, the characters and the setting. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to explore the balance between that feeling of childlike freedom with being a grown up.
I absolutely adored this book! "Reasonable Adults" feels like a grown-up summer camp, although in this case, it's more like a winter camp.
Meet Kate, a talented marketing professional, but her heart isn't truly invested in her job. As fate would have it, getting fired turns out to be a blessing in disguise after she catches her supposed future husband in a compromising situation with his client. After drinking too much wine, she calls him out on social media. This creates an issue at work and she is promptly let go.
In search of a fresh start, Kate applies for a well-paying short-term position at Treetops, a luxurious off-the-grid retreat for creative individuals. However, upon arriving, she quickly discovers that the facade of luxury is cracking. Her office is in the basement, her accommodation is in a freezing hut, and her boss is a nightmare. To earn her promised pay, Kate must boost bookings, but her boss refuses to accept her ideas.
Despite the challenges, Kate gradually bonds with the staff, particularly a handsome but aloof individual. The breathtaking snowy scenery adds some comfort amidst the struggles. As she spends more time at Treetops, she wonders if she can secure her own future while also saving the retreat.
"Reasonable Adults" is a delightful blend of hilarity and charm. I particularly enjoyed Kate's entertaining inner thoughts, the adorable dogs, and the unexpected array of characters, even the villains brought a laugh. I eagerly await more works from Robin Lefler.
Now that Kate has found her true passion, the question arises: will she be able to hold onto it? A big thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books for providing me with an eARC in exchange for my honest review.
I really enjoyed this book. It had a relatable main character and infused humor and quirk with a meaningful story of a woman figuring out her next move when it feels like her life is falling apart around her.
Kate loses her job after she goes on an ill-advised, wine-fueled Instagram rant about her cheating ex. She takes a new job at a resort meant to be a retreat for creatives in the wilderness of Canada with the objective of increasing occupancy during the rough winter months. She follows a unique park to find her place, and even finds a little romance along the way.
I liked Kate and I liked her spirit every time she got kicked down. She definitely wallowed and had a bit of a ‘woe is me’ attitude, but eventually she’d shake it off and take action to move forward. Sometimes it was on her own, but oftentimes she had help and support coming from friends and her new coworkers-turned-friends. I could also relate to her use of humor to deflect in serious feelings and situations because, same.
The romance between Kate and Matt was almost entirely secondary to her own development, and I never really felt overly invested in it. Matt had his sweet moments and did become part of her support system, but I was super annoyed with him in their main conflict. I also felt as though during that conflict, Kate kind of gaslit herself into believing she’d be in the wrong where she really hadn’t, and I didn’t love that. He did grovel well when it was all said and done though. All in all, I was happy with their relationship in the end, but I wouldn’t have found the book lacking without it.
This book is so good. I really enjoyed it. It is so cute and at times had me laughing out loud. Absolutely wonderful. Totally wishing that this lodge was real cause I sure would run off there myself!
I just reviewed Reasonable Adults by Robin Lefler. #ReasonableAdults #NetGalley

Kate has been cheated by her boyfriend Chaz. During a drunk night, she decides to leave a comment on Instagram telling all about Chaz hooking up with his client. The next morning she is called in to work only to be fired as Chaz law firm one of their top paying clients.
Jobless and desperately in need of a top, she applies for a job at Treetop, a resort in the middle of no where Canada.
While there she is put in almost impossible task of trying to bringing in more guests but following very strict guidelines. So she gets creative. While this wasn't her ideal job, and almost quit a few times. Kate really starts to find who she truly is.
The side characters in this book were amazing. However, the love interest Matt, I just didn't care for. I was honestly hoping for a connection with Josh instead.
Great quick read. 3.5 stars
This was sweet with a cozy feel to it. I liked the setting of Canada as a different place than the typical New York or small US town you typically see in books lately. I also enjoyed the closed door/fade to black romance that was well suited to the story. If you like heartfelt stories about women learning where they belong amidst a constellation of choices, this is a great one to pick up!
This romcom hit all the feels!
Workaholic Kate doesn't have much of a life tbh, or much of a job either. I've that this story is really about finding yourself & your passion (or your "output"). Kate definitely finds more than she bargains for... and everything she needs.
Of course, Matt is a big part of that (and I think he finds himself too). The snow! ❄️ But the found family of coworkers is what is really the best part of this story. They are, in fact, the best Christmas gift. A scarf that is crafted to remind you of the woods you love. Or maybe a hand-drawn work of art?
Not to mention, we all deserve a happily ever after. And a gdendoodle named Eric.
***Thank you to Robin Lefler, Kensington Books and Netgalley for the copy. Opinions are my own***

Kate Rigsby set her life on fire over a social media post. She uses this newfound time to get a temporary new job working at an off the grid, creative retreat, in the middle of the woods. She has everything stacked against her, set up for failure but Kate shows her worth and begins to make revenue for the business. Kate begins to think this job might just feel like home, and she meets a guy she maaay have feelings for - Matt. However, dating coworkers is against policy so they decide to wait until Kate's contract is over - nine weeks. But when shite hits the fan and Kate is fired abruptly, everything changes. Kate realizes how much Treetops (the retreat) and her coworkers really meant to her and she'll somewhat fight to get that happiness back.
This was such a cute quick read for me. Kate is very relatable, and I felt myself rooting for herself the entire time. Eric the dog was a great addition to the plot. Matt was kind of a blasé character, but I think it worked with the storyline. Definitely will recommend this to my book club.
Reasonable Adults by Robin Lefler is the story of Kate, a girl after my own heart, who drinks an entire bottle of wine on her own, absolutely blasts her terrible ex on social media, and as a result loses her job.
To move forward she lands a job working at a remote resort. An unreasonable boss, a love interest, and a pup named Eric grace the cast of characters.
I liked Kate because I could see a lot of myself in her. Quirky, into wine, strong friendships, thirties, dog owner, and not quite sure which direction life is taking her.
Matt on the other hand was sort of a "meh" love interest. Kate had all of the personality between the two of them. Also! I understand the need for conflict, but he lost me the moment he stormed out of Kate's place angry AT HER after she was sexually assaulted. There was no redemption for him after that. Also, apparently being a complete idiot runs in the family because his dad is no better.
That bring said, other characters were delightful and the story moved quickly for me. It was cozy, cute, and enjoyable.
