Wow, this book left me with a pit in my stomach. The story is primarily told by Lucy who is searching for her missing sister, Nicki. Nicki and two other women have disappeared and there is a task force searching them. Lucy is willing to go to dangerous lengths to find her.

As the story continues we hear the kidnapper as he is telling his story, but who is the talking to? Last we see from the perspective of a member of the missing persons unit, they discover that there may be more victims than identified.

I loved this book and had to stay up late to finish it, especially with the twists and reveals that the author mixes in.

I thought the way this story was told was very original and compelling for the reader. I liked having the killer’s POV and getting into his head a bit, I thought that was a really unique choice and rounded out the story. I liked the twists towards the end, but I think at first the three week time jump took me by surprised and I wondered if I had missed something. I personally would have liked a bit more from the ending, because I wanted to see the events from that last chapter play out a bit more. I definitely will be reading more from this author as I found her writing style to be easy and fun to read!

For the majority of this book I was hooked. Interesting characters and a compelling mystery. Then it started to go off the rails. There was a bit of an ah ha moment but it ended abruptly and I was left feeling unsatisfied. Part of me really enjoyed it and part of me really didn't.

This one is twisty and I would never have expected less from Howard. I loved it, it had me flipping pages left and right!

She always does a good job of getting you to connect with characters and this was no exception. Thank you to Netgalley for my advance copy!

The Trap is about a woman named Lucy whose sister is missing. She feels like law enforcement is not doing their job in finding her, so she tries to take matters into her own hands. We start the book with her trying to set a trap for whoever took her sister.

We also have the perspectives of Angela (a Guard hopeful) and an unnamed serial killer.

It sounds super interesting, AND it’s Catherine Ryan Howard. I’ll read anything she writes.

I thought it was a little slow moving, but I liked the police procedural aspects. I even was ok with the serial killer’s perspective.

I’m sorry, but I thought Lucy was a moron. I don’t want to spoil anything but that’s it. She’s a moron. It really dragged it down for me.

The ending is open ended, so be ready for no resolution !

This was so, so good. I think it might be my new fave Catherine Ryan Howard book! I loved the little nods to her other works throughout & the twists in this?! *chefs kiss*

4.5/5 stars, this is one I will be recommending FOR SURE.

The Trap is the first Catherine Ryan Howard book I've read and I'm wondering why it took me so long! I was hooked from the first page and managed to read the entire book in a day, which is rare for me. I thought I knew where the story was going but ended up being absolutely wrong. I'll definitely be reading more of her work soon.

Told in the perspective of Lucy, the sister of a missing woman, the investigators, and the killer themselves, the story slowly unfolds.

I was super excited to read this one as I have enjoyed books by this author before, like 56 Days. I also have the Nothing Man on my TBR. The story, cover and name of the book were very enticing to me.

I really enjoyed the multiple POVS, especially the killers perspective.

Overall, this one feel a little short for me. I felt like I had more questions than answers by the end of this. I absolutely hated the ending for that reason because it was not definitive.

I wasn’t expecting this book to take a turn like it did in the end, so my initial theories were not correct, which is nice, but it just didn’t give me the fully finished ending that I needed to give it a higher rating.

Early reviews were comparing this read to The Nothing Man, which is certainly one of my top 3 thriller reads, so I may have set my expectations too high. I did enjoy The Trap. The twists were quite enjoyable, and I was satisfied with the ending. Personally, it was too police procedural for me, and I would have just preferred more Lucy and Bad Guy POV's. Overall I still really liked it and would recommend.

I love this author, but I didn't love this book. While it was very scary, it felt a bit disjointed and unorganized. I also felt the characters were not fully developed. The ending left me a bit upset, and I wanted more. I was surprised it ended where it did. However, I thought it was clever and full of twists, just not organized very well. I will still read more from this author!

Addictive, eery, and seemingly prepped for a screen adaptation! While I love anything Howard writes, I especially appreciated the reveal near the conclusion of this novel - it provided both a twist and surprising emotional depth.

Honestly, it’s been five days since I read this and I barely remember any of it. Which is such a stark contrast to Howard’s other books which I can recall for years. I dont know if I am entering a slump or this was just so confusing with all the characters and changing POVs. I’ll definitely try Howard again, but slightly disappointed with this one.

I really enjoyed 56 Days and looked forward to reading this one, but it wasn't what I had hoped for. It started slow, slow enough I almost said no, but I was glad it picked up and got excited again.

Main characters to follow are the missing women, a sister who won't give up looking, a woman who wants to be a Garda and is helping on this case and a man who seems to be driving around confessing to whoever is in his back seat and must be his latest victim.

Of course everything is not clear cut and there are some twists that make it more interesting, but not interesting enough for more than 3 stars to me. Thank you NetGalley for an advance reader copy. I offer my completely voluntary honest opinion

This definitely isn’t my favourite Howard novel; I was left wanting more. I can’t even tell you what I didn’t love about it really. I just had high expectations since her other novels were five star reads for me. It’s definitely has a great premise and I loved the writing but just not for me.

The Trap is another psychological crime fiction stunner from Cathrine Ryan Howard!

It is a bone chilling, terrifying and altogether haunting hunt for a serial killer told from the perspectives of multiple people close to the case. The finale sequence was action packed and wildly twisty, so I don’t trust myself to say too much, but believe me, you NEED to read this!

I am an absolute SUCKER for psychological thrillers and this one had me biting nails. I became so obsessed in my reading that I lost track of time until I was done, did I breathe…here and there, did I blink…I’m not even sure. This book was fantastic! It had all the tropes that run my life from multiple POV, suspense, twisty turns && you throw in the serial killer POV. FABULOUS! CREEPTASTIC. Catherines writing is perfection!! You follow a the story about women who are missing in Dublin and you get the POV from all different directions. This book is on my top of the year for sure. That epilogue to you guys!! I don’t want to go too much into detail but this is a must read if these tropes are your thing. This book will blow your mind.

Narrated from multiple perspectives, the most captivating being the serial killer's, THE TRAP evoked a similar atmosphere to The Nothing Man (Which I thoroughly enjoyed). THE TRAP unfolds at a relatively sluggish pace, making it feel slower than anticipated. Typically, I devour this author's novels in no time, but this one took a few days to complete.

THE TRAP showcases the author's talent for generating suspense, a quality that had potentially waned in recent works, thus making it a worthwhile read. I think people who loved her earlier works will really enjoy this new one. I had the opportunity to experience the audiobook version as well, and while I found the male narrator's voice unappealing, the female narrator was excellent. The twisted ending was absolutely thrilling and has lingered in my thoughts long after finishing the book.

The Trap- ⭐️⭐️⭐️- this one I almost DNFed but the ending was really good. Interesting idea and I loved being in the mind of the killer. But there are parts of this book particularly with the missing sister that will make your blood boil. Again I can’t really say much more without giving away the big twists that you won’t see coming but it was not my favorite of hers!

Well, that's a very slow paced story. And for anyone who knows me, they know I rarely enjoy anything slow. This is one of those scenarios. I found myself getting bored but I trudged on as I am still curious on what happened to the missing girls and who is the culprit in all of this. Glad to report that we do find out the answers on those but what the actual frick? It could have not ended in a cliff hanger like that? I was already disappointed with where it was going but that sealed the deal for me with my rating.

I wanted to like this, I really did. But it's not just for me.
