Engines of Empire was one of my favorites last year, so I was super excited for this one. It did not disappoint.

I'm not going to get into the plot since this is the second book in the series, but I will say it has everything I want in a fantasy. It's well written, the characters are fantastic, the world is interesting, there's political intrigue and the magic is great.

After loving the first book, I was concerned that this would suffer from middle book syndrome, but it was just as good as the first.

I switched between ebook and audiobook, and I have to say I preferred the audio. The multiple narrators did a fantastic job and I had a great time!

This is only the first 22% of the book. I wish that it had been said somewhere that this was the case. As it is, this was a fine set up to a sequel but it's hard to know how things shake out.

I don't think this series gets nearly enough hype. This book was an intense ride from beginning to end with so many twists and turns. If I learned anything from the first book, it was to expect my expectations to be shattered. Spoiler alert... They were. I also knew that I shouldn't get attached to any of the characters, but I did it anyway and regretted it. Read into that what you will. lol. The title was definitely chosen well because everything about this book was absolute chaos but in the best possible ways.

I love this world so much. It just felt incredibly huge and exciting, and this story added so much depth to the framework laid down in the previous book while also adding some fascinating new elements. The magic and technology were used in some really cool ways. The melding of the two is probably my favorite thing about this series. The conflict between the guilds and the ministry was incredibly tense, and it provided a great way to explore a society coming apart at the seams as religious zealots overthrow an oligarchy.

I'm not going to say much about the plot or specific characters because I don't want to spoil anything from either of the books. Reading them is such an experience, and knowing things beforehand would make it less enjoyable, in my opinion. I will, however, comment on a few generalities. The plot was full of fighting, battle planning, and tons of peril. I never knew if a character would make it past the next page, and it kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. The pace was brisk, but there were some quieter moments, especially in the first half when most of the characters were traveling. I found myself getting more attached to the characters in this book even though there were even more POVs than the first one. Even though a lot of this story was build up for the finale in the next book, each character had a very clear and complete arc. Many of the POVs felt much more intimate this time, as well, with some of them dealing with topics like a crisis of faith, learning to live with a new disability, and struggling to maintain control of one's own will and mind. The story felt more grounded in the characters rather than being solely forced forward by the plot, which was a good change.

I liked that the audiobook had different narrators for the different POVs. It helped to distinguish the characters even more and allowed for their personalities to truly shine. Each of the narrators did an excellent job of bringing their character to life, and it made me wish I had listened to the audio of the first book. Overall, this was a really solid sequel in a very good fantasy series. If you enjoy reading about complex societies with tons of turmoil, fascinating powers that blend science and magic, and intriguing characters that go through the wringer, you'll probably enjoy this book. It is definitely all building toward something huge, and I cannot wait to get my hands on the next book to find out where it's all headed.

So I only received the first couple hours of this book. My honest review will be based on that.

So first I absolutely loved Engine of Empire. So I was grateful and surprised when I received the early audio. I cannot rave about the narrators enough. I love the fact that each character has their own person. I always know whose chapter I am listening too. The way each narrator brings to life their part of the story...omg AMAZING!!

This is the second book in the series The Age of Uprising trilogy. You will continue with Rosomon, Lancelin,Tyreta, and Conall. As well as meeting new characters and their POV. If you love revolution and magic this is a great series for you.

My only regret is I had received the whole audio but I do have audible credit.

When I saw Netgalley had the Engines of Chaos audiobook available I was so excited. I'd listened to the first book last year and it was one of my favourite reads of the year.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to write a full review for this one as the full audiobook wasn't provided, only 4 hours or so, and therefore I won't be able to give this an accurate rating.
I can rate what I've listened to so far, which has been excellent, but can't do much more than that.

The story more or less picks up where it left off and it felt great to be back in this world with these characters. I'm really liking where the book has gone so far, but that's all I'm able to say at the moment.

The book is out next month and as I enjoyed the first one so much, I'll definitely be buying a copy and finishing my read. I will post a full review for the book but only once I've actually finished it.

(I did contact Netgalley support twice about the upload error but was never able to redownload the file to check if it had been fixed, despite trying for two weeks.)

I wish I could give a more detailed review, but I simply haven't listened to enough of this to yet gauge how it stands up to the first, but so far so good. I look forward to finishing the book once it's been released.

Another masterful story in the riveting epic fantasy saga by RS Ford continues this epic story where the previous book left off and takes readers on a high-stakes ride with tightly-plotted twists and horrors that are downright eldritch.

The second installment in the guild-centric epic fantasy trilogy, this book continues the story of Torwyn and its inhabitants as they struggle against the Draconate Ministry and its tyrannical leader, Sanctan Egelrath. With the guilds under attack, the only hope for survival lies with Rosomon Hawkspur, Lancelin Jagdor, Tyreta, and Conall.

The author weaves a complex and immersive world, filled with magic, politics, and technology, creating a unique blend of genres. The characters are well-developed and diverse, each with their own struggles and motivations, making them relatable and engaging. The multiple point-of-view structure allows the reader to experience the story from different perspectives, giving a more complete understanding of the world and its events.

The action is fast-paced and intense, with battles, political maneuverings, and personal struggles all happening simultaneously. The author's writing style is descriptive and engaging, with vivid imagery and well-crafted prose that draws the reader in and keeps them invested in the story.

Overall, this book is an excellent continuation of the series, building on the foundation established in the first book while introducing new characters and plotlines. It is recommended for fans of epic fantasy who enjoy complex world-building, multi-dimensional characters, and intense action.

A great preview. Engines of Empire was my book of the year in 2022. I cannot wait for the full release of Engines of Chaos to see where the story goes.

I requested this one because it might be an upcoming title I would like to review on my Youtube Channel. However, after reading the first several chapters I have determined that this book does not suit my tastes. So I decided to DNF this one.

I didn’t know this was not the complete audiobook (only 4 hours and a half). It is hard for me to review and rate this title based only on one part. Engines of Chaos is book two from the series Age of uprising. I wasn't aware of that either when I requested this title.

From the excerpt, I concluded that this is a very interesting audiobook. But unfortunately, I can’t write a proper review because I didn’t have the chance to listen to the complete audiobook.
