A workplace Christmas competition turns out to be so much more! I thoroughly enjoyed All's Fair in Love and Christmas by author Sarah Monzon. It truly gave me greater empathy for someone I know who suffers from social anxiety, just as the main character does. Mackenzie Graham really is funny and sweet, but most of the time, others only see the awkwardness. "Thirty-three years old and still waiting for a birthday to come around when I can unwrap the gift of not being awkward in social situations."

She has long admired her co-worker Jeremy Fletcher from afar. When they have to compete for a promotion they could both use, life gets interesting! Soon he finds her endearing and seems to effortlessly try to help put her at ease. Charming main characters and loveable supporting characters (her best friend, her mom, and his niece and nephew), a gentle faith thread, sweet storyline, and witty banter combine to make this a delightful, romantic and inspiring story!

I definitely recommend All's Fair in Love and Christmas!

Thank you to the author, publisher Bethany House, and Net Galley for allowing me to read an early copy. All opinions are my own.

I read a few Christmas stories every year and I really enjoyed this one. It made me laugh and cry. Jeremy and Mackenzie’s boss is making a decision about who to promote and they both know that she often promotes the person with the most Christmas spirit. So let the games begin!

This story isn’t all light and happy. Mackenzie’s mother has alzheimers. Mackenzie also deals with a social anxiety disorder. It was fascinating watching Jeremy try to get to know her. I appreciated his persistence in the face of her struggles. This story reminded me of how great it is to have friends who can intervene when you need it. I liked the office camaraderie and it was fun hearing about people’s favorite Christmas traditions. Mackenzie is a special person and I liked seeing her take a few risks.

Thank you to Bethany House for providing me with a free e-copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

This book is full of matchmakers, anxiety, dementia, thoughtful Christmas spirit, and cuteness. I don't think I've ever read a book with so many people trying to push a couple together. I like matchmaker stories but I confess I felt sorry for Mackenzie having to cope with it all.

The story dealt with some difficult topics. I thought they were handled well. The anxiety felt real even though I've never personally experienced it to that degree. My daughter has though. But I have experienced trying to care for a mother with Alzheimer's. It is very difficult. I didn't experience some of the things Mackenzie did in the story. I think it may be that people don't experience it exactly the same as someone else. For example, I never heard my mother acknowledge that she was having a good day with her mind present. I saw her have brief periods of time where she remembered me etc., but never heard her realize the fact verbally. I have seen it in other books and on tv. So, just because I haven't experienced it that way exactly, doesn't mean that no one else has. It could also be a difference in stages of the disease. I didn't live near my parents in the early stages so I didn't see her everyday like I did in the end stages. Anyway, when I saw the Alzheimer's was going to play a role in this story I wanted to put the book down because it is sometimes hard to relive it even in a fictionalized story but I kept reading and found I could deal with it. It was written in such a way as to portray the difficulties without being too graphic or dark.

I didn't care for the writing being a mixed point of view. First person for her, third for him. I really don't enjoy first person very much and would have liked it better if all had been in third person. Even all in first person would be better than mixed to me but I would always prefer third. I find that as I read a first person account, I am very much aware that this is what I'm reading. When this book switches to third person, I didn't really notice. Third person just doesn't stick out to me and feels natural. Then when it switched back to first person, I felt jolted and spent the first part of the chapter trying to recognize who was talking. You'd think I'd have known it was her each time but I didn't. I always wondered who "I" was, at least until she mentioned Jeremy by name.

The promotion/Christmas competition was cute. I liked that though they knew they were competing against each other they were never mean spirited about it. And it only got better by the end. I loved the idea of making people's childhood memories come to life. Plus the competition had a nice resolve.

The Christian themes of the story were not subtle. If you don't care for religious thought/talk in your romance you'll probably not like this one. I didn't really have a problem with them except sometimes they just seemed to stick out instead of feeling natural to the story. I did like the way Jeremy was shown the potential of his flawed thinking using his religious beliefs.

Overall, I liked the story.

Strong Christian themes
No sex, language or violence

I’d say this is a 3.5!

I was immediately drawn into the story. I laughed. I sympathized with Mackenzie being someone who struggles socially with others. I loved the faith sprinkled throughout the story!

I felt like for a book with Christmas on the cover, it was lacking Christmas in the story. At times I forgot this was a holiday book.

Another thing I struggled with was I knew Mackenzie liked Jeremy but Jeremy liking her was very unclear and just not believable. It felt disjoined like maybe the author was like oh wait I gotta make him like her too.

The end of the book— maybe the last 15-20%— was fine. Felt like it was too much and not enough at the same time. I don’t know lol…just felt a little muddled.

Overall I still really enjoyed this book and I wanna read more from Monzon!

I don't know if I ever read a book where I so quickly related to a character as I did to Mackenzie. Before the very first chapter was even over, I couldn't help but feel seen. As someone who struggles with social anxiety like the main character of this story, Sarah Monzon got it right! As a Christian book, this made me especially happy to see. Unfortunately, there is still sometimes that mindset among Christians that anxiety comes from lack of faith, and that can be a very dangerous idea. This book didn't downplay the role of faith, but also addressed the importance of professional help too. So, so important!

While the mental health aspect of this book definitely took it to the next level and made it one that's going to stick with me--- the story itself was super fun too! I loved the holiday puns mixed out, the office competition, and of course--- the romance. Jeremy and Mackenzie were both (mostly) such likeable characters that I couldn't help but be drawn into their story. There was enough Christmas cheer and fun to make this worthy of a Hallmark-like love story... but with many mentions of faith, which made it all that much better for a holiday read too!

I've read several other books by Sarah Monzon and have enjoyed them all... but this one might just be my favorite so far! If you're looking for a great holiday RomCom, this is the perfect choice!

Everything about this book hits the spot. There are Christmas themes throughout that just put me in the Christmas spirit. The romance was adorable. The social anxiety representation. I loved every second of the book. I don't think I can stress how much enjoyment I got from this story. I couldn't help the smile it kept on my face.
Was it perfect? Perhaps not. There could have been a few changes that would have made the book have more meaning, a bit more of an emotional impact. But, for a lighthearted fluffy read that still has some more serious elements, it does remarkably well. There was a good balance of heavier emotions that allowed the more lighthearted moments to shine.
I think my one major complaint about the book would be that I wished there were more moments to show family dynamics. I wanted to see a bit more of that throughout the book. The beginning started strong with them, then they started to fizzle out, before ending with family moments. The middle could have used a bit more.
One thing I really noticed was how the social anxiety was real, but as a reader I still had the perspective where I could see humor in those moments. I did experience secondhand embarrassment at times. I think the author showcased it truthfully, and handled it well. It actually added to the story and had a major part to play, instead of being used flippantly to make the character quirky or to bring humor to the story. It was showcased. The struggle those with social anxiety feel was shown, while still having a good perspective of it.
The expectations I have for Christmas books was met. I want all of the things, tree decorating, cookies, snowmen, family traditions, etc. This book gave me all of that. It was clearly a Christmas book.
I have rambled enough, I don't think there is anything else I could possibly put into words about how much I liked the book. This is the first I have read from the author, but I have already looked at some other books that I plan to read soon.

I read an ARC of this book for free, and voluntarily left this honest review.

When Mackenzie was informed that she was up for a promotion at InDesign, she never expected to be pitted against Jeremy, her secret crush. In the run-up to Christmas, Mackenzie and Jeremy try to outdo each other in bringing the Christmas spirit to the office. However, each of them has a special family need that makes the promotion important. As rivals become friends, both of them must make life changes and engage in activities outside their comfort zones.

Readers who love Christmas and its traditions, as well as romantic comedies, will enjoy this foray into the ways people show caring for each other. While the story deals with some significant life challenges, all is well and happiness shines forth at the end.

I especially liked the way the author addressed realistic concerns and mental well being. The story moved along quickly and kept me turning pages late into the night. Even the most unlikable characters turned out to be good at heart.

I did not like the references to characters and terms that are related to pop culture, as I was not familiar with some of them. This technique will eventually make this book feel dated. The story would have stood on its own without them.

I received this advanced copy from NetGalley and LT Early Reviewers. The opinions expressed here are my own.

All's Fair in Love and Christmas by Sarah Monzon is a fun rom/com book about a sweet blooming romance. Centered around a Christmas competition.

MacKensize Graham is a graphic designer who is shy and doesn't like to put herself forward in front of people. When her boss arranges for her and Jeremy Fletcher to compete for a promotion, she has to put herself out there. With her mother in an assisted living facility, she is finding the insurance isn't covering all the costs.

Jeremy on the other hand is a confident, though not quite as talented co-worker who is raising his niece and nephew. He needs this promotion to fund their college educations. The competition heats up and their boss is loving it. But Kenz and Jeremy become closer as they learn more about each other.

This was such a fun, delightful cozy read. Sarah Monzon's characters are so relatable. We all have fears that are sometimes hard to conquer. But when you depend on God to see us through, there is often a happy ending.

MAYBE FOR YOU?

I know I gave this a low rating, but I’m also able to see that maybe it’ll work for someone else this holiday season.

What I struggled with most was the mental health representation and how it was handled. It just didn’t sit well with me and I wish a little more exploration would have been written in. I felt like this plot line wasn’t truly finished.

The romance was lackluster. It was trying hard to be sweet and cute, but many of the moments felt forced.

There’s definitely plenty to fulfill anyone looking for a read with holiday spirit. Lots of Christmastime activities and traditions to go around. While I didn’t click with the writing style if you enjoy:

Sweet romance
Heavy faith themes
Workplace romance
Kind friendships
…then maybe it’ll work for you!

This was a super fun holiday rom-com by Sarah Monzon. Reminiscent of her "sewing in so-cal" or "book nerds and boyfriends" series, this book was infused with a sweet romance and lots of humor. This book also had several pop culture references (which I recognized all of even though the only movie I really have seen of those referenced is The Princess Bride). In addition to the humor and the romance, there were some serious themes as well, such as mental health issues, adoption and Alzheimer's. Those themes added some more serious elements, but they were done well and with grace. The humor did not get in the way of those elements, but instead helped to balance them, making this a lighter read, but with a dose of realism. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters in this book and appreciated the character growth and development. And the ways that Jeremy and Mackenzie sought to bring holiday cheer to the office was creative, fun and festive! This book had a solid faith thread as both Mackenzie and Jeremy both had spiritual epiphanies in the book. I thoroughly enjoyed the overall story line of this one as well as the romance and character development. There was even a surprise twist at the end, which I thoroughly enjoyed as well. All in all, this was a fabulous holiday read that I would definitely recommend to fans of contemporary romantic comedies. Special thanks to Bethany House and NetGalley for an advance e-copy of this novel. I was under no obligation to provide a review and the thoughts contained herein are my own.

Christmas stories are fun to read and this one was a true delight!
Sarah Monzon has captured the spirit of Christmas in this story and she also brought in awareness of a struggle so many people deal with.
Social anxiety isn’t fun and can be very debilitating for those who have it.
In this story, the two mains are pitted against each other to show who has the best Christmas spirit for the company. Yet in the process, they start to really see each other and acknowledge their growing interest.
I loved this story and all that it had in it.
The author Sarah Monzon does a wonderful job of painting all the fun and yet struggling things relationships can have.
She brought in beautifully touching moments and also fun quirky times.
Sarah Monzon is a very skilled author. She has given us a wonderfully entertaining book to read. Each of her books holds lessons we can all learn. I truly enjoy reading anything this author writes.
I highly recommend picking up this book, it’s fun and delightful!

It's never too early for some Christmas cheer, and Sarah Monzon delivers it in All's Fair in Love and Christmas.

Graphic designer, Mackenzie Graham loves Christmas, her job, her mom, and her competition for the annual promotion at her workplace, Jeremy Fletcher. The trouble is that she has a horrible case of social anxiety. Speaking to clients (or anyone else, for that matter) is extremely stressful for her. How will she win if she can't talk to clients? How can she let Jeremy know how she feels if she can barely look at him? But her mother has Alzheimer's, and she needs to win the job to be able to keep her at the nursing home. She'll have to win the job based on her Christmas spirit alone.

Jeremy has no problem talking to clients, and he needs the promotion as a single guardian to his niece and nephew. Unfortunately, he is getting sidetracked by his competition. He's never really noticed her before, and now he can't stop thinking about her.

I loved this Hallmark-like Christmas story! When I looked up from its pages and stepped back to reality, I was surprised there was no snow on the ground and disappointed my house wasn't decorated for Christmas. This is my first novel by Sarah Monzon, and it won't be my last!

Also, as an extrovert, I've never really understood social anxiety. I'm thankful the author gave me a glimpse into what is clearly a harsh reality for some.

If you enjoy romantic, fun-filled Christmas stories, you will love All's Fair in Love and Christmas!

.All's Fair in Love and Christmas is a delightful read that will leave you feeling warm and cozy. The characters are so likable and sweet. I totally understand and feel for the heroine and her introverted ways. The hero is so precious to her. I love him! The storyline makes for a feel-good inspirational read. I highly recommend not only at Christmas time but at any time of the year!

This is a sweet story! I loved the premise, and the characters are so sweet and easy to root for! I love a good workplace-battle that showcases how both the main characters are deserving of the prize, and the end shows the perfect solution for both of them. This book definitely has that, as well a sweet love story between them as well.
I didn't like the writing style of this book-- the FMC, Mackenzie's, perspective is first person pov, and the MMC, Jeremy's< perspective is third person. It made it difficult for me to follow and get lost in the story. I think the book would be much better if it stays dual POV but either all in first-person or all in third-person (not a mix).
Thank you for the ARC!!!

I love holiday traditions and reading about them is so enjoyable. This book reminded me of an office romance Hallmark or Lifetime movie. If you're a fan of those you will like this a lot. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. Four stars.

A romance for fans of Hallmark Channel, GAC Tv and Lifetime.

It’s that time of year again, which means Christmas Promotions at work. Jeremy and Mackenzie both are vying for the promotion. There are crazy fun adventures along the way.

I love a Christmas romance, and this one was really sweet. The main characters Mackenzie and Jeremy are colleagues vying for the same promotion by trying to impress their Christmas-obsessed boss.
Both main characters are good people who have their struggles- Mackenzie struggles with her mental health, and is watching her mother suffer from Alzheimers, and Jeremy is the single carer to his twin niece and nephew.
I enjoyed the characters, there are a lot of friendship interactions that shine through. The focal relationship is cute, however, the supportive friendships and Mackenzie's interactions with her colleagues were my favourite parts. As well as discovering all the different Christmas traditions Mackenzie and her mum shared.
There is a faith/Christian element throughout the book, which isn't out of place in a Christmas romance, and the romance is very PG.
The anxiety representation is great to see, and the way Mackenzie's friends look after her is endearing.

This was such a cute and sweet Christmas romance. I have read a couple of Monzon’s books and I was super excited to read this one! The blurb had me hooked and I could not wait to see how this book would turn out. All’s Fair in Love and Christmas is written by Sarah Monzon and it is a lovely Christmas read!
Mackenzie was such a relatable character. I really felt for her as she tried to figure out how to navigate life and her own emotions. She had anxiety but she did her best to overcome it. I loved reading about Mackenzie learning to trust herself and to trust God. Mackenzie had to learn to see outside of herself and take a leap of faith.
Jeremy was also a great character. He was struggling to keep his life under control and things felt crazy. I loved getting to know Jeremy and seeing his love for his niece and nephew, he was just trying his best. Jeremy had to learn to trust in God’s plan and learn to wait on the Lord.
I loved reading about Mackenzie and Jeremy interacting. They were in a sense rivals for a position but they never seemed malicious. It was fun to read about them falling for each other and seeing the other in different lights. Mackenzie and Jeremy had to figure out what to do when their plans were getting derailed and suddenly there were new experiences.
The romance was sweet and the side characters were fun. I enjoyed the friendships in this book. I liked the faith aspects that were woven into the book too. All’s Fair in Love and Christmas was an enjoyable read! I would recommend it to those who enjoy Christian Christmas romances. All’s Fair in Love and Christmas is a clean Christian contemporary read.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the publisher through Netgalley. All views expressed are only my honest opinion, a positive review was not required.

A sweet holiday romance featuring likeable characters and so many festive activities and traditions mixed in. I enjoyed reading 'All's Fair in Love and Christmas' and would recommend to readers who like light-hearted holiday stories about friendship, family and love. It was great seeing the main character Mackenzie grow and become more confident throughout the story, learning to not overthink everything and to reach out to others despite her social anxiety. There is great chemistry between the two main characters Mackenzie and Jeremy, a brilliant best friend who's always supportive, and an encouraging boss who values her team.
