Bad Summer People is a summer indulgence, and worth every moment that it took for me to read it. I really enjoyed this book, and all the lies and misunderstandings that happen to put this book together. This book really exemplified how some books just have no "likable" characters, but you still can love the book. I really didn't connect or "love" any of the main characters. Most were backstabbing and cheating, but the core of the story was fabulous, with very unlikable characters.

Overall, a very good read that I would recommend to any that want a light, beachy read.

Premise: A bunch of rich families spend the summer on Fire Island and try to keep their ugly secrets a secret.

I had a really hard time getting into this book. There are no likeable characters at all. I found every single one of them exhaustingly dull and insufferable. I could really care less about any of them and their silly problems. Get over yourself.

Gripping and suspenseful. This book takes me deep into the seemingly idyllic world of Salcombe, Fire Island. Jennifer Weinstein and Lauren Parker may appear to have it all, but their manipulative nature hides a darker side. Their husbands, Sam and Jason, share a complicated history along with plenty of secrets, while Rachel Woolf is on a quest for her perfect match. Amidst the gossip and secrets, a shocking murder rocks their tight-knit community, revealing the hidden undercurrents beneath their picture-perfect lives. Emma Rosenblum's storytelling is both stylish and subversive, capturing the reader's attention from the first chapter. Narrator January LaVoy brings the characters to life with her skillful performance, immersing listeners in the drama and suspense that surround every scene. This book tackles human nature, highlighting the lengths people will go to protect their secrets. With its engaging storytelling and captivating narration, got me hooked from beginning to end.

Really enjoyed this book, although not a single character is likeable.
It was just so entertaining and fun. Perfect summer read if you're looking for something a bit offbeat.

3.5! This one was okay! It was about these rich people and their lives on there summer home on a little island called Fire Island. It starts out with a kid finding a dead body and than we go back to the start of the summer and leads up to what happened we get the POV of all the characters and honestly there isn’t one I liked and I know that was on purpose. It was also tennis heavy, over all it made for a enjoyable summer audiobook!

4⭐️

Jen and Lauren rule the small town of Salcombe, Fire Island every summer. They manipulate everyone around them and hold court at the beach and on the tennis court. They were brought together by their husbands Sam and Jason, who grew up together on the island. The towns gossip, Rachel, is looking to end her single streak with the tennis pro or someones husband. The summer starts out like normal, until a body is discovered and everyone’s secrets start to unravel.

WOW that was NOT what I was expecting! When I first read the synopsis I thought this was going to be a thriller and it definitely is not! It’s more of a suspense/mystery novel surrounding the rich people of New York, think
Hamptons people. Fire Island is a more remote vacation community for the wealthiest of families.

We have MULTIPLE POVs through the book, apart of the main eight people, we also have some other random POVs thrown into the book. Yeah it was confusing at the most of the time, especially at the beginning of the book. Due to this the book does not go into depth about the characters, its very surface level so its very plot driven. I’m very anti-drama in my real life so books like this are a major escape. You have a bunch of rich women that hate each other and talk so much shit about each other but are best friends socially. Rich people behaving badly is a great trope.

I received the audiobook version of the book which was narrated by January LaVoy. She did an amazing job juggling multiple POVs and keeping each unique. January made the book a very easy listen and perfect for summer time! I’ve already added it to my moms “To Be Read” list because I know she’ll LOVE it! Because who wouldn’t love reading about rich people doing stupid shit?

This is some delicious fun!

Bad Summer People features a cast of truly despicable characters. They are all awful people who only care about themselves and what they want— but that’s what makes this one so entertaining. This makes an amazing summer beach read so grab it soon!

I was hoping this would be the perfect read to get me in the mood for summer, but alas, it was a miss. While I typically enjoy multiple point of view books, the characters in this one were all so unlikeable that I found it hard to become invested in the story. I really don't think there was one character that I really found myself rooting for. I know that was most likely the author's intention, but when they are all such "bad summer people", it makes for a long, long story. I will say that the book was well written, and the audiobook narration was very good as well. This book just wasn't for me.

I absolutely loved this book, what a great summer read. I enjoyed following all of the crazy characters in this book. Part thriller, part women’s fictions this book had highly developed characters. While the ending was not entirely surprising it was a great read overall. Grab this for your next beach read!

This is a perfect, juicy beach read about rich people behaving badly. One of the pillars of the town turns up dead and everyone begins turning on each other, as secrets begin to spill 👀

I listened to the audiobook read by January LaVoy and she did a fabulous job! It would have been nice to have more “good” characters but that title warned us. These little unexpected turns kept this over-the-top tale interesting. I would recommend this audiobook.

A perfect summer read! This felt very much like Bravo's "Real Housewives" in novel form. I highly recommend reading it.

The cover of this book is amazing and drew me right in. It looks like the perfect summer read. And while it is set on a local island in the summer, it is really just about bad people during the summer, as the title suggests.

The book is stacked with a TON of characters and it goes through all of their POVs. Simply put - I was confused. There were married couples but then there were couples cheating on their spouses. With all the names presented, even by the end, I couldn't remember who everyone was.

My favorite part about this audiobook is that it is read by January LaVoy!

I didn’t finish it. Started out promising but quickly just dissolved into unlikeable wealthy people all cheating on one another and hiding larger secrets. If any of the characters were appealing, I might have stuck with it but I just didn’t care about any of the outcomes.

I went into this book for a thriller, but it turned out to be the rich people drama that I didn't realize that I wanted. Appearance is everything on Fire Island and everyone in this group is harboring a secret. From private school scandals, Botox rumors, affairs, tennis club drama, to murder, this group of rich people prove that money does not buy happiness.
I liked the format of this book, beginning with a discovered body and then flashing back to the summer leading up to the discovery. There are no likeable characters here and at one point I thought both the victim and murderer could be anyone. I will warn that there are a lot of characters, so it takes a few chapters to get to know everyone, but once I settled into the characters I enjoyed watching the drama build and unfold. This book definitely gives Real Housewives vibes, but throw in a murder.
