I’ve never really particularly been a horse-lover, or cowboy-themed story fan. Wildflower Falls, by Denise Hunter, may have changed that for me. This story was everything I love in a romance. It was an absolute joy to read and ticked all the boxes for me: clean romance, light faith element, likable characters, clear communication (for the most part and understandably so), found family, recurring characters from previous stories, and a cozy setting.
Wildflower Falls is the fourth book in the Riverbend Gap series and though I have loved all of these stories, this may be my favorite. These stories are all inspiring, feel-good, and heart-warming to read…the perfect pick-me-up in story form. I always love reading series in order so you understand the subtleties and backstories of the extra characters, but these can be read as stand-alones, if you prefer.
Wildflower Falls is set in the country, alongside the mountains of North Carolina, bordered by the Appalachian Trail. Charlotte Simpson is trying to honor her late mother’s wishes to keep her horse ranch alive and thriving, even though it’s an uphill battle. Charlotte loves the ranch and it’s legacy and is willing to dig her heels in and do the work. In order to assist her efforts, she hires Gunnar Dawson, a short term horse trainer who is highly skilled, truly gifted, and not hard on the eyes, but he is also a committed nomad, adverse to settling down.
Gunnar and Charlotte, slowly form a friends-to-something more connection, while struggling to work through their own haunting issues from the past. Simultaneously, Charlotte is facing resistance from her half-sister, Emerson, who wants to create her own life apart from the ranch, and feels threatened by Charlotte’s new search for her birth father. As Charlotte discovers a surprising connection to the Robinson brothers, who are conveniently building a new barn on her property, she is also faced with an impossible dilemma.
This plot has many meaningful facets and subplots. The characters, and the connections and interactions between them make for a captivating story. The themes of moving on from heartache of various kinds, as well as a second chance at love is touching and inspiring. The aspect of found family and community is impactful. This story is a treasure and was a pleasure to read.
I fell in love with this book right from the very beginning. It really hit things off when Charlotte is caught spying (with binoculars) on a handsome guy working on her new barn by the guy she is hoping to hire. She has many more adorably uncomfortable moments in which her blush gives her away.
The characters all seemed like someone I'd want to sit down to dinner with. The story is really well rounded with lots of family, past and present conflicts, hopes for the future and the slow romance between Gunner and Charlotte. Just a really good book all the way around!
Thanks to Thomas-Nelson Fiction and NetGalley for the gifted copy. All thoughts are my own.
Wildflower Falls is the latest in the Riverbend series. Although this title can be read as a stand alone, reading the previous titles in the series will enhance the readers knowledge of the community of Riverbend gap and it’s members. Denise Hunter is a master storyteller and she does not disappoint with Wildflower Falls. She continues to develop the characters of the series while concentrating on a couples love story. A story of second chances and restoration, this reader highly recommends.
I received an ARC ebook from NetGalley and the publisher, Thomas Nelson, in exchange for an honest review.
I thought this series had ended with the stories of the three Robinson siblings and was happily surprised to find this continuation of it. I like this series a lot and always enjoy a trip back to Riverbend Gap, North Carolina with wonderful characters and a great setting where the Appalachian Trail runs through the small town. Apparently, there is a fourth sibling that no one knows about. Charlotte Simpson never knew her biological father but when her mother died, she discovered some pictures and newspaper clippings that gave her a hint but nothing definite. Charlotte is in a hard position to find answers and doesn't want to hurt other people in the process. Thankfully, she has a new horse trainer on her horse ranch to help with the ranch and he has a great listening ear and is willing to help her. Gunner Dawson carries his belongings on his Harley and has no roots, no family. He is there at the ranch for six months to help get Charlotte's training program up and running, including training a replacement and then he is off to work a Derby ranch in Kentucky. This book is full of questions, concerns, emotions, good and bad, and also new beginnings, and possibilities of more plus chemistry! Sweet story of forgiveness, grace, and trust.
I received a copy for the purpose of an honest review. These are my thoughts and opinions.
I absolutely adored this book! I'm so glad that I discovered Denise Hunter's books. She writes some of the sweetest clean romance books, and Wildflower Falls definitely fits the bill! It's the fourth book in the Riverbend series, and unless you will be upset about knowing who married whom in the previous books, it can be read as a standalone. Wildflower Falls is the first I've read in the series, and I enjoyed it tremendously!
The characters come to life on the pages of Wildflower Falls. I loved Charlotte, swooned over Gunner and quickly became invested in all of the characters' lives and how they intertwine.
The shocking news about Charlotte's biological father and brothers and how she handles it is very realistic. When Charlotte's mom died, she took the secret of her biological father with her. I'm about the age Charlotte's mom was, so I'm sure she thought that she had plenty of time to talk to Charlotte about all of it. However, Charlotte has to find out from items in a safety deposit box.
Charlotte's dilemma concerning the entire situation was very difficult. I don't know how I'd handle it if I were Charlotte or if I were the one receiving the news about a sister I never knew I had. I became really emotional during the reveal because this book feels so real! I laughed and cried a lot during the book, so get your tissues ready if you're an emotional reader!
I highly recommend Wildflower Falls to clean romance lovers!
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
Gunner Dawson is one of the best horse trainers in the country. He is in great demand but he decided to take a simple job in Riverbend Gap. He shows up a day early at Wildflower Falls and the moment he sets eyes on Charlotte Simpson, he knows he's met the one. Only he's a rambling man and never stays in one place for very long. Between the two of them, the plan is to get the ranch in shape. So with training and pony rides is a start. Charlotte has other problems on her plate. Her mother left a key to a box which contains information on who her real father is. She can't let it go that she might be related to Riverbend royalty. On top of that, her sister Emmerson is feeling like an outsider and wants out. How does she begin to stop juggling everything? With the help of Gunner, some things are settled. It seems Jim Robinson has the perfect cure. I love his penny trick. Family, no matter how you come by it, is the best.
Denise Hunter has become one of my favorite go to authors. I love that her books are clean romance. This is a must read whether you are on the beach or curled up by a fire you won't be able to put it down. Charlotte's world has been turned upside down with the death of her mother. On top of trying to make a go of the horse ranch she inherited she discovers her mother had an affair and the man she thought was her dad is not her real father. On a quest to find her true father and get to know her siblings she enlists the help of Gunner. Gunner is the horse trainer she recently hired. He is willing to help but has made it clear he is not the staying type and already has a new job lined up in Kentucky. She can't afford to get too close to him and face more disappointment.
Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson for this advanced review copy. In return, I am submitting my unbiased and voluntary review. All opinions and thoughts are my own.
A sweet story centered around forgiveness and found family.
I really liked that this story had trauma representation. I hate what Gunner had gone through but it is important to read about hard things and see how people overcome.
I loved how hard of a worker Charlotte was but wish she would have been a little more personable.
I received an advanced copy of this book through NetGalley. This is my honest review
This series is just a lovely walk down memory lane for beautiful North Carolina locations I remember from my childhood.
Thank you @thomasnelson for my early copy of WILDFLOWER FALLS, the 4th installment in the Riverbend series by @denisehunter.
The story has cameos from all the past characters from Riverbend, in just the right dose. Charlotte the FMC in Wildflower Falls is in search of her birth father, in the midst causes a rift between herself and her step-sister, and realized that her discovery will upend some well-known folks in town.
Charlotte navigates this difficult time with the help of Gunner Dawson, an excellent horse trainer, who carries the bulk of his possessions on his motorcycle as he rides into town for a temporary gig at Charlotte’s barn.
If you love horses, you will LOVE this novel. They take huge part in the characters’ lives and are well cared for and nurtured throughout the novel.
This is a sweet small town romance. Charlotte is the owner of a ranch looking for her biological father. Gunner is the horse trainer she has hired who has a past he is running from. The story is complicated from the start and includes many of the characters. Readers will enjoy how warm and welcoming they are as they each get to know what is going on. It is an uplifting story that sees Charlotte and Gunner get a happily ever after.
Wildflower Falls, by Denise Hunter, is the fourth book in the Riverbend Romance series. This is a wonderful and surprising conclusion to the series. This story takes over after the third book, so it is best to read this series in order to fully understand the characters. This author gives background information for the wonderful characters, so it can easily be read as a stand alone story as well. The relationship between Charlotte and her sister is very realistic. Gunner is a well known horse trainer that has signed on to work for Charlotte for a short time between jobs. He does so much to help with the horse farm and help her develop new programs to make the farm profitable. It is easy to see the struggles both felt when it was his time to move on.
Charlotte has never known her father, after her mother’s death she find papers that makes her feel Mr. Robinson is her father. I enjoyed how she and Gunner worked together to find her real father. I especially enjoyed the connection between her and the Robinson family and how welcoming and helpful they were towards her.
I voluntarily received a complimentary copy of this book, this is my honest review.
This is another beautifully written story by Denise Hunter. Charlotte and Gunner are two strong yet vulnerable people who find one another's hearts on the horse ranch that she and her sister have inherited. Charlotte is working with everything she has to save the ranch as the third generation of owners. Her half sister, Emerson, seems to be pulling against her while pulling away from the ranch itself. Realizing she needs to offer specialty training for vulnerable and abused horses the older sister hires a professional horse trainer, Gunner, who has a stellar reputation.
Charlotte is carrying a secret. Among her mother's private files she finds paperwork that leads to the possibility of her own biological brothers and father. Carefully she seeks to learn the truth.
This is a great story about family, loss, home, secrets, devastation, and so much more. I received this advanced reader's copy from the publisher and NetGalley. It works as a stand-alone but I do recommend the other books in the series because it's such a wonderful set of characters and storylines. The Robinson family is a special centerpiece of the books. I did read Wes and Avery's story in the past and loved it also. I really like that I was able to see Emerson's side of the story in this book.
I recommend this book for readers who enjoy a clean, yet stirring romance that feels part of an emotional life filled with realistic challenges story.
2.5 stars. Another nice, sweet story from Denise Hunter. There's romance, family relationships, and lots of cool horses. An enjoyable, non-demanding read.
Loved it! What a wonderful summer read. I thoroughly enjoyed this sweet and poignant story about family, and taking a chance on love. Charlotte and Gunner are some of the most lovable characters I've read about in a long time! And it was great to see appearances by many of the characters from previous Riverbend Romance series. I highly recommend Wildflower Falls.
Thank you to Net Galley for allowing me to read an early copy. All opinions are my own.
A great ending to this beautiful series!!! I laugh, I cried, and overall felt the full spectrum of emotion. It was a bit cheesy and overdone in certain parts, but I was able to overlook those moments due to that fact that the overall tone was very well done
A satisfying end to the Riverbend Gap series. It had been a while since I read the first three books, but it all came back to me quickly and it was such a great setting for a series. The characters were believable and the story had a very good flow. Seeing Charlotte grow into herself and her community while working out her continuing relationship with her stepsister gave the story depth. And who doesn't like horses?
This was a DNF for me at 25%. Too bad, because I've really enjoyed the other books in the series. But this one felt forced and uninteresting. All of the insecurity from Charlotte, pettiness from Emerson really starting getting on my nerves and I just couldn't go on. I've read many of Denise Hunter's books and this is the first one I really did not enjoy.
Wildflower Falls by Denise Hunter is a fun read. This is Book 4 in the Riverbend Romance series. It has engaging characters and a story that just sucks you in. It’s a nice, clean Christian romance that weaves faith with family, friends and love. It looks like I’ll need to go read books 1-3 now that I’m invested in the Riverbend community. (Thank you NetGalley and Thomas Nelson publishing for providing me with a copy of this book. I was not required to leave a positive review. All opinions are my own.)
This book had a great beginning. It had me laughing right away with the awkwardness of it. There were also moments that made me cry. I loved the range of emotions.
I loved seeing the Robinson clan again and learning more about their family's beginnings. I appreciated how Jeff laid two cents down on a table when he wanted to give advice to his kids and how it was up to them to pick them up if they wanted to hear it. I love books with strong, realistic families.
It was fun seeing all of Charlotte's plans coming together to try to make her horse ranch profitable. I've always loved horses so seeing Gunner making progress with some horses and how he did it was really fascinating to me.
Thank you to Thomas Nelson for providing me with a free e-copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
Denise Hunter's middle name must be Romance. She keeps putting out wonderful stories full of romance and inspiration. This book takes us back to the Applachian Mountains, and we revisit beloved characters from her previous series. This book can be a stand-alone because the author gives us the back stories, and the reader won't be at a loss. I enjoyed the bit of mystery and how the book ties up all the plots and subplots up into a wonderful bow.
*I was given a copy of this book by Thomas Nelson Publishers. This is my honest opinion.
