This was a fun, quick read. There were some good gags here, though at some point I tired of the yoga theme. I suspect it would be a better fit for someone who does yoga!
As the yoga begginer, I liked this book. It's written with comical aspect of yoga practice. I don't know about different styles but this book made me want to try it.
Really entertaining!
Very meh.
Not a fan of the art style and this seems to really be for the target audience of instructors not people that have just barely dabbled in yoga.

A wonderful book. Highly recommended. You will enjoy reading it. Written in a very engaging prose. Nowhere would you feel being stuck or bored. Pick it up if you get a chance. Thanks to the author for a review copy.
This was a hilarious look at yoga and how different people react to the classes and the discipline.
I tried yoga for one during lockdown and decided it was not for me so I wouldn't be able to relate to a lot of the descriptions in the book but it didn't make them any less funny to imagine them playing out. The illustrations were done well and I loved the different depictions.
Thanks to NetGalley and its author for providing me with an advanced copy of this book
meh, pass the most boring book i ever read
nor 1.0
Some of the comics were really funny but the majority didn't manage to make me chuckle like I thought they would. I agree with another reviewer that this would have been better as a calendar or desktop flip top book, rather than what it is. I did enjoy it a good portion of it so not much of a loss.
As a practitioner of yoga for many years, I really wanted to like this book. The premise sounded great: Funny cartoons about situations that happen constantly in yoga class, what not to like about that?
But unfortunately I found very few of the cartoons funny. There's one or two gems in there but most of the cartoons failed to extract a smile from ny lips, let alone a chuckle.
The art style also did not help matters. It doesn't look beautiful, or unique or interesting so it doesn't really add anything to the book. Unfortunately this one was a dud.
Thank you to the publisher for providing an advance copy via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
The Lighter Side of Yoga

⭐️⭐️✨
Synopsis:
“From cell phone users in yoga classes to Zoom yoga participants sneaking wine and cheese off camera to those folks who just can't help peeking during meditation sessions, The Lighter Side of Yoga presents the humorous and offbeat aspects of yoga through Mike Nevitt’s satiric comics.
The many true-to-life situations in the book are based on Nevitt's experiences and observations over a 30-year period as a full-time yoga and meditation teacher. Aside from providing good laughs, Nevitt aims to gently poke those teachers and students who might have a tendency to take themselves and the practice of yoga a little too seriously.
Yoga and mindfulness practitioners will smile knowingly as they recognize the all-too-familiar scenarios which Nevitt skewers throughout the book. So settle into your favorite yoga pose and let The Lighter Side of Yoga get your chakras spinning!”
My opinion:
I love yoga. But maybe I am one of these serious yogis?!
At some of the comics, I had to chuckle, but mostly they left me unmoved. I understood them but I didn’t really see the Humor in them? It’s probably a matter of taste.
I am not too big on the crude drawing style, but maybe others enjoy it more.
So yeah, I’m sure some yogis will love it, it was not for me :)
I agree with the general attitude of the book about how people act during yoga and I've experienced several of the situations myself. The illustrations were childish but amusing, but for me, a lot of the jokes fell flat.
Even though every panel was a new joke, it also felt repetitive.
Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this
These yoga inspired cartoons are cute, but would have made for a fun calendar rather than presented in book form as there wasn't an ongoing story or theme, just individual pages/panels.
I would say that this book is not for a beginner yoga practitioner or less, since you might not get the gist of the jokes. But it's a fun book nevertheless, and you can really find yourselves there among the characters he wrote.
This is a great, amusing read for everyone who loves yoga and can relate to some of the ridiculous aspects of this age old practice!
Well, this book will certainly appeal to a specific demographic of yoga instructor. Go ahead and guess. I’m not in this demographic.
This book even comes with blatantly sexist comics! I would not buy it and I’ll not be mentioning its existence to my fellow teachers.
I’m giving this book 2 stars because 5-10 of the comics were genuinely funny.
A collection of single-panel/single-punchline comics, The Lighter Side of Yoga seems aimed primarily at a certain brand of new-agey Yogi. There are definitely some chuckles to be had, but while some of the jokes feel a little more general, much of it feels very tied to a specific subculture. And not just that the non-Yogi audience will be left out of the joke - the humour feels so specific that even Yoga-practitioners from either a corporate/sports practice or a more traditional Hindu one, will find less to laugh at.
The art is a rough sketch style, which isn’t my preference for single panel work, it will be perfect for fans of that style.
I had an eARC from NetGalley, but this feels like the kind of book where the hard copy would be a good host/hostess gift for visits to Yoga-fan friends.
I enjoy a bit of Yoga and have been to a few classes but some of these little pictures went over my head. I think this would be a great present for someone who religiously attends yoga or a yoga instructor to give them a light hearted gift and a little laugh.
This was a fun comic showing the absurdities of commercialised yoga classes, type of people you find in these classes, yoga teachers and comparisons of different styles of yoga. I found the whimsical style for art fitting for such an exaggerated comic. Found it a bit repetitive for a short book and some of the comics were not my cup of tea.
This is a funny and charming cartoon book.
Anyone who has ever taken a yoga class or even thought about taking one can relate to at least one of these cartoon caricatures poking a bit of fun at this topic.
Many chuckles to be had in this book.
I haven’t practiced much yoga in my life but reading this book made me want to try now that it can be less serious than I expected. I had fun reading this book and recognizing situations I have witnessed myself, but I wish I had been more knowledgeable about yoga terms because I think I clearly missed some of the jokes.
Nevertheless, it was a fun and quick read that I quite enjoyed!
I am not a yoganese, however this was a cute and humorous graphic novel on yoga. I especially liked the Sanskrit pants! Had a few out loud chuckles from the dad and fart jokes but a lot of it went over my head. Link to a YouTube short to come.
