This was interesting to say the least. I'm not really sure if I liked it or not. It was a fun book but I'm not sure that I would be interested in reading more.
Exactly what you think it is. It’s silly and a bit funny how many earplugs get in on the action. I giggled and read it in maybe 5 minutes. Not for everyone but a fun little look through!
Earplug Erotica makes inanimate objects somehow erotic and hilarious. This is not a book I ever thought I wanted, but, as an everyday earplug user, I got a laugh out of this odd, little book.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with this… I think?
What the hell did I just read? Or rather look at?😂 it’s exactly what the title promises you. Don’t know what I thought it would be…
In the beginning this book sounded promising. It's a collection of vignettes of erotic stories where the main characters are earplugs. I thought this book was going to be a lot funnier than it actually was. The stories are quite short and feel under developed. This graphic novel lacked a certain level of nuance that I think could have made it a great book.
Thank you to NetGalley for this e-arc of "Earplug Erotica".
"Earplug Erotica" by Mike McCoy is a playful and thought-provoking journey that will leave readers contemplating their own perceptions and biases. With its imaginative approach and clever execution, it's a book that encourages us to embrace the unexpected and approach every day from a fresh, open-minded perspective.
I don't know why this is a thing that exists, but I'm glad it does! Earplugs caught in risky acts is genius! Good Reads review sent.
Hahahahahahahaha. This was a hilarious read. Honestly admire McCoy's brain because I have no idea how he ever came up with something like this.
A whole variety of different scenarios, surprisingly all of which result in a wealth of earplugs all on top of each other.
This was extremely fun, funny and creative. Loved it!
This is one of those books that you want to remove the cover and leave in the bathroom reading bin or on the coffee table and just wait for the reactions you hear/get when a guest picks it up. There are a few pages that it's a bit obvious what's being suggested and a few that just look like they could be a pile of very large earplugs.
Earplug porn is one of my favourite genres and thankfully, Mike McCoy executed his take on this widely popular area with perfection.
On a more serious note, this gave me with a good 20 minutes of uncontrollable laughter (please take a moment to appreciate the scuba diving scene) and a fantastic Christmas present idea.
I found this while browsing Netgalley and honestly it was everything I could have asked for. I read it with a friend and we both ended up needing breaks between pages to recover from laughing. I wish this was one of those Instagram comics so I could have a little laugh at one of these scenarios every day. Mike McCoy is a genius and I hope he does more with this concept. I will definitely be sharing some copies of this around come Christmas. Highly, highly recommend 🤣

This book was just so funny (and a why not giving some inspiration ?). I just don't know how I feel after this. I mean I'm fine and had a fun time but EARPLUGS?! I'll never see them the same now
This is an unexpectedly fun book. It's only erotic if you choose to see it that way, so perfect for parents or covert erotica fans. Who considered ear plugs as a messenger for erotica?! It oddly works.

A unique approach to the graphic novel format. Definitely a minimalists dream. I wanted more from the story, but it gave a chuckle from time to time
It is what it says it is, earplugs in positions that may be seen as erotica. While slightly amusing at first, I didn’t find the cartoons to be much of anything special. I was definitely not offended by the cartoons (and I didn’t expect to be offended, as there’s not much in the way of erotica that I find offensive), it just wasn’t very funny or clever. Simply drawn earplugs having sex in a variety of locations, scenarios, and couplings. Eh, I’ll give this a pass. Maybe someone else might enjoy it.
I decided to read and review this because I thought the title was funny/intriguing, pointing to potentially clever. and funny content. And so it was. Simple, colorful drawings. The publisher's description takes this angle: Are these drawings of earplugs placed in particular configurations "dirty" or is that your "dirty" mind in the gutter? It's a bunch of colored earplugs, for cripe's sakes! So, look at the cover and answer the a question for yourself. And if it made you smile, this may be the book for you. And if you are offended, well, it's not. I just thought it was clever and imaginative.
It's amazing how the mind works. These very simple, benign drawings of earplugs do allude to some rather risque activities.
Cute, silly and uplifting. This picture book makes for a great break between deeper, more intellectually demanding reads. It's sure to put a smile on your face.

******************************************************
Some readers of Mike McCoy's Earplug Erotica will simply see earplugs placed in a variety of domestic and outdoor settings. Others might see earplugs representing people of all genders and orientations engaged in a wide variety of bawdy activities!
What do you see? Do you think these earplugs belong in Playboy magazine . . . or Audiologists Monthly?
What you see inside Earplug Erotica may say more about how you view the world than you care to admit! One thing is for sure: After browsing through Earplug Erotica, you will never see the humble earplug in quite the same way ever again.
This book made me laugh so hard I was crying … I have been wearing earplugs for decades (We live on a fire engine and ambulance route…and our last home was right by the fire station as well.) and even if I am travelling and in the middle of nowhere in Gaspe, I still have to wear them. It’s a psychological and pathological need. And trust me, I have found them in weird places.
This book GOES THERE … and it is 96 pages of funny. I imagine some people won’t find the humour in this book (I have an odd sense of humour that baffles my family) but if it is not for you, just put it down and pick up that Margaret Atwood book and don’t make any snarky comments to us librarians inside…we cannot hear you over our earplugs!

Earplug Erotica is, as its title implies, cartoons in which Earplugs are the featured players. Because earplugs might be seen to look like, ahem, it is possible to draw cartoons of earplugs in which they become featured players in a Rorschach test. Kind of like the old joke where the psychiatrist shows the patient several incomprehensible sketches and asks the patient what it is. "Well, that one is a man and a woman having sex. And that one is a woman and a man having sex. And that one is a man having solo sex." And the doctor says, "Your problem is you are obsessed with sex." And the patient says, "Not me, Doc. Maybe you. Those are your pictures." Similarly with earplugs. Are they erotic? You tell me.
How much time have you spent thinking about earplugs? You know the sort—nothing fancy, just the squishy bits of foam, rounded at one end and flared at the base. You probably own a pair or six. I have a pair in my backpack right now. You probably don't think twice about them.
Well, "Earplug Erotica" would like you to think twice about them. I'm pretty sure it would like you to think twice before putting said earplugs in your ears, in fact. This collection of almost wordless comics presents earplugs at their randiest in all sorts of locations: in a sauna, underwater, midair while skydiving. And, well, I don't know quite how to put this, but earplugs aren't historically known for wearing lots of clothing, and the earplugs in this book tend to take advantage of that fact.
(Side note: the cover of the book is very true to the contents. If you are amused and dismayed by the cover, you will probably be amused and dismayed by the contents. If you're offended by the cover, this is neither the book nor the review for you.)
The two scenarios that I...I don't know that I can say that I liked or appreciated them, because the sex lives of earplugs now live rent-free in my head. But the two parts that felt best done are 1) the transition from the "Climbers" chapter to the "Skydivers" chapter (though why there isn't a mile-high chapter, I don't know), because it felt more like an almost-story rather than individual scenarios that were completely detached from each other by everything but the fact that we're now thinking about the sex lives of earplugs and 2) the "Dinner Party" chapter, because (again) it felt the most like a story with characters and some humor beyond the...uh...theme of the book.
All told, while this was just about exactly what I was expecting and I cannot fault it for that, I think any (oh god) future iterations might do well to bring more of an element of story into it. I'm not sure where you're expected to keep this book, though. Do you display it on a coffee table for visitors to peruse, or put it on a bathroom shelf so they can do so privately? I don't think I really want to know.
