4.5 technically but I ATEEE this up

Corrie has a problem we all have - she's too hot to be taken seriously in her job as an archaeologist - no? Just me?

She gets asked to go on this dig that involves the subject of her thesis (she is now a professor but has done plenty of extensive research and digs in her career) and she's like yeah!! And she finds out it's being led by like some mysterious person and she's still like yeah!!!

Turns out the mysterious person is her academic rival, Ford, and she almost turns around and leaves right then and there.

But they work together on the dig. Corrie's only real problem is her hotness LMAO like she's very steady in her sexuality, she's pretty stable with her family, has no man because she has a roster of fuck buddies instead, like she's winning in life. She's extremely invested in the dig for this old warrior guy's knife and stuff because her grandpa told her growing up that they were his descendants. She wrote hundreds of pages on it for her thesis and it's actually such good research that Ford has his students read it (he's also a professor) and he's also basing his dig work on it. But turns out he kinda interpreted it not the best and has been digging for months in the wrong spot LOLZZZ (my coworker who is knowledgeable about such things as she's gone on digs told me that there IS no wrong spot, there's just spots to find different things than your goal, but for the sake of the story and the plot and looking for the knife, it was the wrong spot!!)

So he realizes, probably realized before the book even started, that Corrie was actually the person that was supposed to lead the dig. Actually, he "realizes", because he knows for a fact he snatched the gig from out under her. This becomes a big point of tension for him. He did it for the promised money, as his mom is sick with cancer and he's trying to pay for her treatment, but still, he harbors a lot of guilt and once he and Corrie start to get closer he knows that that information is something that can drive her away.

SEX... HOT plot JUICY archeology INTERESTING tension THEREEEE like it just had everything I wanted and kept me tuned tf in. It also set up for a sequel and I would be so happy!! The side characters are on their silly girl shit fr and I would love to read more from them let alone the main folks

This had an interesting premise, but I wasn’t super happy with the execution. I loved Corrie as the main character, especially being a young Mexican women in Mexico, working on her supposed ancestor’s dig site. But so much of the narrative, and her thought processes, were focused on Ford (the love interest) in the beginning that it was getting insufferable. And this book is on the longer side for a romance, so I decided to DNF it at 28%. Bummer because I LOVE a good action/adventure romance, and archeology stuff is so cool to me.

As someone who has an anthropology degree that specialized in archeology within that I LOVE a good adventure story so this was an immediate request for me. And the adventure/archeology aspect of this book is fantastic. I thoroughly enjoyed Dr. Meija and that part of the book. Corrie, is freaking amazing. As a fellow female in a male driven field, who has and will probably continue to be judged based on my gender and sex appeal more than my merits, I immediately connected with her. I too am known for my more adventurous ways, and I love that about Corrie and myself. Corrie and the archeology did made this book for me.

Because of aforementioned experience I just couldn't get behind Ford. Its bad enough he got so much more than Corrie bc he's a charismatic man, but it was even worse to me that he had the audacity to recognize this but still continue to use it to his advantage. True allies lift up those they can when they can, not just acknowledge they have privilege. Thank God, Corrie was so amazing (although she forgave him all too quickly imo) because I just focused on the archeology plot instead of the romance in this one.

This was a fun enemies-to-lovers story about two rival archeologists forced to work together to uncover the lost remains of an ancient Aztec warrior. While dealing with personal issues, possible treasure hunters after them, and dealing with their steaming hot attraction to one another, they find more than they ever thought possible.

This was a fun read and I loved the adventure romance, a la The Mummy. The characters were fun, but I felt like the enemies to lovers thing dragged out a bit too much. There was a lot of back and forth conflict before even the main third act conflict that all of it felt unnecessary.

The ending of the book really sets it up for a sequel so I'm curious where we are going from here.

I grew up watching and loving The Mummy, Indiana Jones, Romancing the Stone, and this book fit in perfectly with those classics! I really enjoyed Corrie and Ford, their chemistry was so great, I loved the back and forth and the sexual tension was fantastic. I really appreciate that the relationship drama was not dragged out too much and even though there was of course a third act betrayal that caused them to separate it was resolved very well. The action and stakes were high and I was on the edge of my seat most of the time. I definitely hope Segura turns this into a series, it was so fun and unique!

What an enjoyable, fun, action-packed read! I love the Indiana Jones movies, so this book was right up my alley! Archealogical discoveries mixed with romance and intrigue. What more could a girl ask for? Would totally love to read more by this author - and have put it in a cart to order for my library when it is published! Thank you for a fun read!

I loved this! I need more archaeology romances in my life. I liked that the male main character showed emotion. Both main characters were relatable.

As a fan of The Mummy that enjoys it more as an adventure rom-com, this book scratched an itch that I had been looking for in romance novels. The enemies to lovers trope is one of my favorites along with forced proximity. The slow burn paid off and there were plenty of smoldering moments that made you hold on for the spice. There was tons of humor and witty banter, I love these characters and the ending was so exciting, I was on the edge of my seat through the last few chapters. I can only hope that we will get more adventures with Corrie and Ford!

This is one of my most anticipated reads of the year and has been since the moment I saw the announcement. With snappy prose and quippy characters, Raiders was fun from page one and as steamy as the jungle it is set in. Corrie and Ford have undeniable chemistry and I loved how they both felt like fully realized, fleshed out characters. I also appreciated that it did deliver on the action-adventure element near the end! I hope this brings about many more cross-genre romances!

4.5 Stars
Oh my gosh, this was such a fun story! I don't think I've ever read an adventure romance like this before - and I'm totally here for it (please tell me there'll be a second book). I'm an Indiana Jones fan myself (thanks to my husband actually) so I loved the nods to that in this book. I was not ready for those last 2 chapters (I thought it was going somewhere else than where it ultimately went lol, my poor heart), I loved how it all came together but it felt a bit rushed to me and left me wanting to know more. Overall, this was a super fun and spicy story.

Thank you NetGalley and Berkley Publishing Group for the ARC!

This story was such a fun adventure. So much good banter and humor with characters I really enjoyed reading about. Jo Segura's writing is wonderful.

Corrie is the Indiana Jones character and Ford (yes, named after Harrison Ford, as the text explains) is her rival. I really didn't find much to believe about their enemies to lovers dynamic, especially because Ford's POV made it abundantly clear that he didn't want to be enemies or even rivals. The banter (and dialogue in general) was pretty weak and everything felt slightly over-explained, from Sunny the assistant's name to the mystery investor and the "paid gig", how horny Corrie and Ford are (and always have been) for each other, etc.

And that was only in the first three chapters.

The spice is there, but the adventure isn't. The third act breakup was predictable, could spot it coming from ten chapters away. It's too bad, I wanted to like this since Raiders of the Lost Ark is a big favorite in my house.

What a great read! An excellent rom com reminiscent of Romancing the Stone, Indiana Jones and the Lost City! A perfect blend of archaeology, adventure and romance! Loved the chemistry between Corrie and Ford!

This was exciting, fun and sexy. Think Indiana Jones meets Tomb Raider and Romancing the Stone. I sure do hope this becomes a series!
