The Official Fablehaven Cookbook by Brandon Mull; Cherie Mull Is a delightful compilation of easy to make recipes with an adorable short story from the FableHaven world. I really enjoyed all of the illustrations and the pictures of the recipes. The item seemed simple to make and had detailed instructions that all ages can enjoy creating. The short story was lovely and interesting and I think Fablehaven fans will enjoy cooking these recipes with their families.
This is a great recipe book for anyone who has read the Fablehaven Series, I have not, but still enjoyed the story in the beginning and that each recipes derives from the books.
The recipes themselves are straightforward, easy to follow and to obtain the ingredients. I like that each recipe also has a picture to go with it so you can see what it looked like after it'a made. Most of the recipes do require adult help to a degree, unless your kid is well versed in kitchen safety.

Such a cute fun book. Highly recommend. One for kids and fans of all ages. From the snack to baked goods such creativity in the most simple ideas. Making even an adult excited to try the recipes
My Mother-in-Law first recommended the Fablehaven series many years ago, and it has joined our library (along with other Mull works). The Official Fablehaven Cookbook by Brandon Mull & Cherie Mull (his sister-in-law) is a fun addition to the Fablehaven collection!
I was delighted to read the new short story in the at the beginning of this book, starring the magical Brownies that live on the Fablehaven preserve. Even though it’s been awhile since I’ve read the series, it instantly transported me back to those stories.
I also loved the way all of the recipes related to back to the books. The pictures were gorgeous and the structure was easy to read. I loved that these were simple recipes I could make with my kids… and that they could do some of the steps themselves, helping them feel more confident in the kitchen.
I was surprised to find craft “recipes”, too! My kids love crafts, and being able to tie the recipes, activities, and stories together was nice. This beautiful book will make a wonderful gift (publish date 8.1.23) and addition to our personal collection.
5 stars. Many thanks to NetGalley and Shadow Mountain Publishing for an eARC of this book in exchange for an unbiased review.
Fablehaven has been one of my favorite series to read and also to share with my children and my students. The Official Fablehaven Cookbook by Brandon Mull & Cherie Mull(his sister-in-law) is a fun addition to the Fablehaven family. This book starts with a new short story based on the Fablehaven reserve starring the magical Brownies that live on the Fablehaven preserve. It was cute and one that Fablehaven fans will love. I also loved all of the creative recipes related to characters from the series and events from the books. It was great that there are craft recipes too.
The nice thing is that the recipes are kid-friendly and easy to make, with adult supervision of course. The pictures are beautiful in the book and it's a pleasure to just read through the book. The Official Fablehaven Cookbook is one that Fans must buy for their Fablehaven book collection.

Oh my gosh I love this little cookbook so much. It's been years since I read a Fablehaven book, but the short story included took me right back into it. The recipes in this book are neither too boring nor too complicated. They would be perfect for a young reader learning to cook and bake. Most of the baked desserts use boxed cake mixes as the starting ingredient, and I think that's a really good way to get people new to following a recipe into baking for themselves.
The pictures were pretty and fun and I loved the way that everything tied into the book characters. I thought it was great that they added a chapter of some of the Author's favourite foods, and the chapter of crafting recipes was a wonderful bonus. I would absolutely gift this book to a young reader in my life, and if they hadn't read the Fablehaven books yet, I would add book one in with this gift.
From the short story at the start to the section on the author’s favorites and crafts to do, this book is the ideal book for anyone who loved the Fablehaven book series. Most of the recipes are tied back to scenes/characters from the books and all are relatively simple and good-looking. I really liked that each recipe had an accompanying picture, making it easy for anyone who is following the recipe to see what the final dish should be.
I received an ARC of this book through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Fablehaven super fans are going to want to purchase this book just for the short story in the front and the beauty of the book itself. The recipes are nothing earth shattering, but they will be fun for use with kids. My daughter is particularly enamored with the fairy toast and the easy fairy folk tortilla pizzas. I will definitely order this book for my library and (being a Fablehaven super fan myself) I've already pre-ordered it myself.
Such a cool cookbook. My kids LOVE the fabled haven series And are now super excited to try some of the recipes
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for letting me review this book. I’ve been a fan of Brandon Mull for a long time and Fablehaven is one of my favorite series. This is the perfect companion book to the series. I enjoyed reading the mini story at the start of the book. The recipes were kid friendly and easy to do. I liked that photos accompanied the recipes. Besides food and drinks; I liked that there were also craft recipes as well.
This is a creative and unique twist on a cookbook that many are sure to enjoy. There is a short story and little snippets introducing the recipes. There are pictures with each recipe, which I really appreciate when trying to replicate a recipe. There are also varying levels of recipes to try- I thought that some might be a little bit harder for younger kids, but you never know. Parent supervision is probably helpful on some of them. Fans of this series will absolutely love this book and would make a wonderful gift. Even for those that haven't read the books, they can still enjoy the whimsical fun recipes and stories.
A fun inventive cookbook for kids and parents alike. A short story by Brandon starts off the cookbook, then the delicious recipes with little snippets of the books reference to it. The recipes are fun and simple with a fun variety. There are also craft recipes for slime and such at the end, which is a great idea for a kids centered cookbook. The pictures are beautifully done, and there is one to accompany each recipe, which I love as well as being easily categorized. There is an index at the end for simplicity of looking up specific recipes.
So.... My three oldest children cried. Full bawling when they found out that I'd been approved for this book.
We are lovers of Mr. Mull's work and have been scrambling to make the recipes. Some are the average, run of the mull [pun intended] recipes you might find in the type of world featured in Fablehaven. Some, are slightly more whimsical and exotic to see on the table. All of the ones we've tried have been amazing. Pairing them with a read along of the books made the experience extra fantastic. Highly recommend for collectors of nerdy cookbooks and amateur chefs alike.

This is a well designed and attractively presented cookbook tying in kid-friendly recipes with the characters, setting, and tone of the Fablehaven series. And there are a couple of crafts “recipes”, as well. Almost fifty cooking recipes run the gamut from snacks to desserts, evoking bubbling brews, dragons’ eggs, goblin glop, and so much more.
Great bonus: the book even opens with a new, complete Fablehaven story! In addition, each recipes was nicely introduced with its Fablehaven origin.
The recommended reading age is 8-11 but some older folks will want to be involved in the production of a lot of these recipes. I particularly enjoyed the Midsummer Strawberry Salsa.
I highly recommend this cookbook for good content (recipes and the bonus story!) and visually appealing presentation.
I was granted an advance reader copy of this book in exchange for an unbiased review.
Fun cookbook for fans of the Fablehaven series (which, admittedly, I have not read, ha ha, though we do have a couple of the books in our family library, so I think my kids read them)! The book begins with a new mystery-themed short story relating to the series, so it's a fun extra for fans as well. The cookbook portion is divided into the sections of Breakfast, Lunch and Snacks, Midsummer's Eve, Treats, Drinks, Brandon's Favorites, and Crafts. Each recipe includes one full-color photo with a tie-in to the characters and the stories -- sometimes a direct quote from the books, others just a short narrative explaining its origin from the characters and stories. The recipes are simple, not elaborate, so I believe this is meant to be a kids easy-to-use cookbook, as the Fablehaven series is targeted to late elementary/middle grade readers. There are very clear step-by-step instructions, and all the ingredients are very common ones that everyone should have on hand or can easily add on to your shopping list when you and your kids want to make some of the fun treats. The recipes range from treats, snacks, desserts, meals, and drinks, giving kids a wide variety of options to make food tying into their favorite Fablehaven stories. The Midsummer's Eve section contains a fruit salsa, mummy dogs, cake pops, and two more desserts. I'm assuming this section also relates to a holiday in the books, but there's not an explanation for the inclusion of this section, only for the individual recipes. Overall, the short story was enjoyable, even for me as someone who hasn't read any of the books, though there were some things I didn't understand completely, which I'm sure other readers of the series would understand better. The recipes are fun. The pictures are well done. The book has a great graphic design overall, including pencil/black-and-white/charcoal drawings of some of the Fablehaven fairies and other creatures in the story section and also throughout the rest of the book on some of the recipe pages. This is a great youth and family cookbook, but I think it would also be great for teachers to incorporate into using the recipes and their curriculum relating to this fun fantasy series!
Oh, I absolutely LOVED this! A fabulous baking cookbook! It’s whimsical, beautiful, and just utterly enchanting - a real joy to look through. From the morning pancakes, to potion drinks, this book has it all. What a fantastic range of delicious, yet simple to make recipes. It has very clear, simple and easy to follow instructions to help guide you through each bake. I love the magical, mouth-wateringly beautiful photographs that accompany the various bakes in the book. Not only do they look simply stunning, but it helps you know what you’re aiming for. There’s also a lovely intro to each recipe, and a bonus fairytale at the beginning.
Thank you to Shadow Mountain Publishing and Netgalley for an eARC of this book to read and review
