Another delightful visit to Amish country. A not so delightful murder occurs. The little pig provides humor. There is a smidgeon of romance. Some family issues and a mystery to solve. Had my suspicions early on and they proved correct for a change. A charming series. Alway fun to return to these characters. Thanks to the publisher for providing a copy via NetGalley. My review is voluntary.
I enjoyed this book in the series and look forward to more. I liked the characters and the setting. The mystery kept me guessing.
Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for my eARC in exchange for an honest review.
Blueberry Blunder is the 8th Amish Candy Shop mystery. It will keep you up late reading.
Bailey is trying to get her candy factory built and the contractor ends up dead on the site. The sheriff takes on the investigation, and things start to look bleak.
Meanwhile, Aiden has returned home as a private investigator. Charlotte is preparing to marry Deputy Little and drowning under the weight of meeting her future in laws and missing her family. Margot is holding a blueberry bash on Harvest’s main square.
All these pieces mix together in a story that is as tasty as Bailey’s blueberry and cream fudge sounds.
I recommend Blueberry Blunder. I do think a reader will enjoy this best if they have read previous books in the series. The relationships between characters and the events that have happened in previous books really influenced how I perceived this book.
Thanks to Netgalley and Kensington Cozies for the opportunity to review this book.
Blueberry Blunder is number 8 in the Amish Candy Shop cozy mysteries by Amanda Flower. All the characters that we have grown to love in the series are back my favorite being the polky dotted pig Jethro. His human Juliet is always getting Baily to pig sit the michevious little porcine. Jethro seems to have knack for getting into trouble. In this story Charlotte the Amish cousin tulrned Engish is getting married to her soulmate Deputy LIttle. She has a lot on her plate. He wedding is in a few days and she will be meeting her inlaws for the first time. She hopes all goes well. Things get worse for Charlotte when the contractor for construction of Bailey's new candyl factory comes up murder and Charlotte's estranged father is a suspect. Can Bailey and Charlotte prove his innocence before the wedding?
Thanks to Kenningston and Netgalley for the digital ARC. All opinons are my own.
This is a great series that I have enjoyed from the beginning with Bailey King, her boyfriend Aiden, his mom Juliet, her potbellied pig, Jethro, and other recurring characters. This story is especially good because Bailey's boyfriend, Aiden, is moving back to town after working for the state law enforcement agency for the past year. Bailey is getting a new factory built to sell their Amish candies from Swissmen Sweets Candy Shop, owned with her Amish grandmother, out of town. When work stalls on the building, she fires the contractor but that night someone killed him. She, along with her cousin Charlotte set out to find the killer when Charlotte's estranged father is accused. The contractor was not a nice man and there are others unhappy with him, so they had their work cut out for them. This book has lots going on with Charlotte's upcoming wedding and family issues and a film crew in town to film Bailey's factory building. This is a complicated mystery to solve with an interesting conclusion that I didn't see coming and on another note, a very happy, satisfying ending. Another winner for Amanda Flower.
I received a copy for the purpose of an honest review. These are my thoughts.
Another cute mystery by Amanda Flower. She struck the right balance between Amish-Englisch tension and harmony. The self proclaimed town event planner wasn’t quite as ridiculous as usual, and I liked getting to know the townspeople in a way other than how they react to being forced into volunteer activities. The baking theme is always a hit with me - totally enjoyable story.
Bailey has enough on her plate with the construction of a new candy factory and a film crew that doesn't entirely understand (or chooses not to understand) that the Amish don't want to be filmed and then....she finds her contractor dead. Murdered! Of course, she's a suspect, of course, the man was broadly disliked, and of course Bailey must investigate, especially once her dad is arrested. Oh and Margot is thrilled with all the publicity because it's blueberry time. This is a fun series with great atmospherics (and a pig) and each entry is fine as a standalone. Bailey and her romantic interest Aiden have some issues as they work toward their future so I'm looking forward to the next one. Thanks to netgalley for the ARC. A good cozy read.
Blueberry Blunder is a fun relaxing book. Bailey is a great character I have been following the series not all but most of the latest instalments and have enjoyed each book. Her portrayal of the Amish is real. Didn't know in central Ohio was an Amish town. I grew up in Cleveland. It's amazing read and relaxing and good luck on the next book looking forward to another amazing read!!!
I have jumped into this series at book 8 but I enjoyed it very much anyway.
Bailey King is responsible for the great success of the family candy shop and is trying to establish a candy factory. Her grandmother is Amish and there is a nice blend of Amish and non Amish characters throughout the story. There is also a very cute and naughty pig called Jethro.
The story is good and the mystery interesting. I did not guess who the murderer was. There is a very romantic ending which left me with a smile on my face. Well worth reading!
4.5 stars, rounded up
A TV crew is in Harvest to film a reality show based on the building of Bailey’s dream candy factory. Margot, the town’s event organizer, is thrilled, since the filming coincides with Harvest’s first Annual Blueberry Bash. But when Bailey’s contractor turns up dead – in the unfinished factory – the television show could generate all the wrong kinds of publicity.
This is book #8 in one of my favorite cozy mystery series, and I was excited to return to Harvest for a visit with Bailey, Charlotte, Aiden – and of course, Jethro. I live not far from ‘real’ Amish country here in Pennsylvania – not the version of the Amish that tourists often see – so it’s easy to picture the Amish community in and around Harvest, and also easy to understand why some of them don’t want anything to do with the English part of the town.
The recurring characters are like old friends by now, and I have enjoyed watching their relationships grow and change as the series has progressed. Some of the characters from this author’s Amish matchmaker series are getting bigger parts in this series, and that’s been fun, although I’ll admit to waiting for Peter and Philip to show up :) A few new characters were introduced in this book, and I have to say that I won’t miss some of them if they don’t return. Every time they showed up in a scene, it set my teeth on edge.
The murder victim was not very well liked, even among the Amish community, so there were quite a few suspects to consider, as well as several other puzzles to solve. I’ll admit that it made me happy when Bailey and the rest began to suspect one of the characters who eventually was revealed to be involved, but I didn’t have the entire situation worked out before it was revealed in the book.
I’m eager to read the next book in the series to learn what happens next and how the fallout of this book’s conclusion affects my book friends and the rest of the town.
Blueberry Blunder is the latest Amish Candy Shop Mystery featuring candy making superstar Bailey King and the real scene stealer, Jethro the pig. Bailey’s candy factory build has fallen way behind as the contractor tries to squeeze more money from Bailey than they agreed upon. It’s no surprise when Bailey discovers his dead body and she’s a suspect like always. The film crews documenting the build jumps at the chance to cover a true crime angle. Bailey is drawn into investing when her cousin Bailey’s father it’s arrested for the murder. Bailey must navigate through a case that twists and turns with the ever faithful Jethro in toll. The cast of characters are always fun and entertaining and the mystery has just the right amount of twists and suspense for another great cozy read. My voluntary, unbiased review is based upon a review copy from NetGalley.
Blueberry Blunder is the eight book in the An Amish Candy Shop Mystery series. When Bailey King, local candy shop owner and TV celebrity, stumbles upon another dead body during the Annual Blueberry Bash, she won’t stop until she’s unraveled the mystery.
Amanda Flower is one of my all time favorite writers and this is one of my favorite cozy mystery series to read, so of course I was excited when I saw this new book was coming out. Blueberry Blunder and Bailey King did not disappoint! As always with this series, I was pulled in from the very first page and thoroughly enjoyed the ride as Bailey got up to her usual antics to uncover the killer. This is a great series full of great, likable characters and the perfect small town, aside from the murder, of course. If you love good mysteries, Amish Candy shops and great characters, this series is go you! I can’t wait to see what comes next for Bailey in Harvest, OH!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book!
Love love love this series! Another 5 star book from Amanda Flower! The story definitely kept me interested and I love following the main character Bailey and her adventures with solving mysteries and of course her love life :) definitely recommend this book!
This is the 8th book in the Amish Candy Shop mystery series and I have read several and enjoyed them all completely. I love this world that Amanda Flower has created and I especially love that it gives a glimpse into another world. Bailey is working on her candy factory, but construction seems to have stalled out completely which is impacting not only her targeted opening date but also the show that had been proposed about the factory. Finally enough is enough and she confronts the contractor who insists she just needs to pay more money. When he is found dead the sheriff, already no fan of Bailey, decides she must be the prime suspect. Of course Bailey has to investigate to try to find out who truly killed the contractor. I liked the progression with Bailey’s relationship with Aiden and with Charlotte in this one. Every book develops the characters and relationships just a little more. This is definitely a great addition to the series.
Blueberry Blunder by Amanda Flower is a witty tale. I laughed often while reading this story. I enjoyed returning to Harvest, Ohio for the Blueberry Bash. I felt bad for Bailey King who has her hands full with making candy for Swissmen Sweets, the construction of the new factory, the filming of her new show, and Jethro (Juliet’s polka dotted pig) constantly being foisted on her. Juliet takes advantage of Bailey. She should not continually thrust Jethro on Bailey (Juliet needs a pig sitter). Jethro is one mischievous pig who can only be left unsupervised at nap time. I felt bad for Nutmeg who had to share her bed at Swissmen Sweets with the polka dotted porker. I like that we are getting to know more about Charlotte. She is really coming out of her shell. Charlotte is getting to marry the love of her life in just a few days. Harvest’s First Annual Blueberry Bash provided many laugh out loud moments. The Blueberry Princesses dress and throne are indeed something. I had to laugh when I learned who came up with the idea for the festival and why. I do not know if it will help the person or not (I hope it does). Harvest is a blend of Amish and Englisch. Millie and Lois from Amanda Flower’s An Amish Matchmaker Mysteries are included. Lois is a hoot. Millie and Lois are polar opposites in looks, but they both have good hearts. The mystery was straightforward. I knew who would die and the identity of the guilty party before the crime took place. The reason why took me a little longer to untangle. My reading enjoyment was not dimmed by this knowledge. I had a fun time following Bailey on her latest adventure. I am glad Aiden is returning to town (it is about time). The ending made me happy. I see changes ahead in Harvest. I cannot wait to see what happens in the next An Amish Candy Shop Mystery. Blueberry Blunder can be read as a standalone for those new to the series, but I recommend reading this entertaining series in order. I like Amanda Flower’s writing style. It is friendly and engaging. I was drawn immediately drawn into Blueberry Blunder. It is a lighthearted story that made me laugh. My visit to Harvest was over far too soon. Blueberry Blunder is a comical cozy with a blueberry bash, a construction catastrophe, a poufy princess dress, a playful pig, a killed contractor, blended nuptials, and a special surprise.
I was very happy to be able to read the 8th book in Amanda Flower's Amish Candy Shop mystery.. Since the first book I have enjoyed reading about the small town of Harvest, Ohio. The characters are so much fun, and I have learned a lot about the Amish way of life at the same time. And what can I say about Jethro, Juliet's pet pig? I also like the way she has lately incorporated characters from her Amish Matchmaker series, also set in the same town. This is another good series and it is fun to see everyone interacting, just as they would in real life. This series should be read in order, as it follows the lives of Bailey and her friends and relatives as they face life's adventures in each new book. Looking forward to the next book in each series! Thank you, NetGalley and Kensington Publishing for the chance to read this.
I really enjoyed this book. I always love a cozy mystery series and I have enjoyed the other books in this series. I really enjoyed this book and love tge character development.
Another sweet installment in the Amish Candy Making series! From crooked contractors to scams to theft to bribery to murder, this book had it all. And Bailey had to work through it all under the scrutiny of her new show’s cameraman and producer.
The author does a great job keeping the story fast-paced and moving along with many twists and turns along the way. And Bailey makes for a fun and clever amateur sleuth (along with her cousin Charlotte and famous pig Jethro).
Can’t wait for the next installment!
Thank you to #NetGalley and #Kensingtonbooks for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
I really loved this book in a new to my series and author. I can't wait to read the next one. The characters and location really add to the plot. This book keeps you guessing until the end
Seeing as BLUEBERRY BLUNDER is the eighth book in Amanda Flower’s An Amish Candy Shop Mystery series, it’s a fair bet that I’m a pretty big fan of these books, so you won’t be surprised that I really enjoyed it.
In this instalment, Bailey’s challenges involve stalled construction on her sweet factory, a pushy TV producer wanting to film every detail of her life, and the demanding town event planner demanding Bailey step in as the Blueberry Princess (complete with fluffy, Cinderella-style ballgown)! Oh, yeah, and of course, she stumbles onto a murder.
I liked that BLUEBERRY BLUNDER was very focused on Bailey’s closest friends.
Her cousin (and shop assistant) Charlotte is getting married and also acts as Bailey’s co-detective in this book, as the murder investigation turns up a personal connection to the Amish family she had to leave behind to pursue her musical and romantic dreams.
Love interest, Aiden, also plays an important part in this book, after an instalment or two in the background. I found it interesting that this mystery actually tied up/into a long running plot-point in the series, something I don’t tend to see often in cozies. It’s still a standalone, but I liked that there was a little evolution being shown in more than just the characters personal lives.
As always, these books really deliver on the cozy, small-town appeal, as well as the quirky yet loveable cast. BLUEBERRY BLUNDER is a great instalment in the Amish Candy Shop series, showing no sign of slowing down losing its charm. Highly recommend for fans of the series.
