This was a cute story, you knew what you were getting with it but I still wanted a bit more as it didn’t feel the story had been fleshed out enough, especially when the characters were so likeable! I’d like to see a final version where the characters get the full story they deserve, bit more from King Max and his love story, more time with Adelaide and her friend visiting for Christmas, getting to know Lima’s story more.

A Royal Christmas is a very well written modern day fairy tale. Loved this book. My thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for my advance ebook. This is my unbiased review.

This novel reminded me very much of a Hallmark Christmas movie. Both in the predictability and the plot. But there is a reason Hallmark Christmas movies are so popular. What’s not to like about a story of an ordinary girl finding out she is a princess and falling in love? There is some sadness in this book as the king, her father that she never knew is ill. It was a quick enjoyable read and those who like romantic Christmas movies will enjoy this delightful read.

A Royal Christmas is a very sweet and entertaining Christmas Story.

Adelaide Smith grew up as an only child of a single mother. She never knew who her father was since her mother never shared any details before she died. This year will mark the 3rd anniversary of her death from a car accident.

Adelaide is looking forward to her last day at Common Grounds Coffee so she can work on getting her law degree. Her best friend Maya gives her a ride home. Once there she goes through the mail when she spots an official looking envelope from the country of Montovia. As she reads the documents, she is shocked to find that she is believed to be the daughter of the King of Montovia, who is extremely ill and wants to meet her. It goes on to say Adelaide is the heir to the throne.

Adelaide is more curious about her father than the role he has and after discussing it with Maya, decides to go to meet him. Once she arrives, she is happy to spend time with him as he is very ill and not expected to live long. There is a lot of court intrigue that Adelaide tries to avoid. But soon it becomes clear that someone close to the King has their own agenda for the future and Adelaide is in danger.

This was a fun cozy mystery that happens over the Christmas Holidays. I could easily see this as a made for tv movie.

I love the cover of A Royal Christmas by Melody Carlson. It is elegant and so is the story it contains, Adelaide is every little girls fantasy of finding out she’s a princess and being swept up into a new world. Who doesn’t want to spend Christmas in a castle? * le sigh*

This story has a lot of similarities to "Princess Diaries." Adelaide finds out she is related to the King of Montovia and goes to see him. Of course, there are those that don't want her to claim her spot in the king's family. It's pretty predictable but that's okay as it's a modern fairy tale and we expect to know what's going to happen.

I thought this was a fun, light read. I wish there was a little more depth to the character development. They were all pretty one note. The other thing I would have liked to have seen was a little more detail at the end. It felt pretty abrupt. It's labeled a novella. I think both of these could have resolved themselves for me with a little longer, full length book.

Thank you to Revell for providing me with a free e-copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Adelaide Smith quit her job at Common Grounds Coffee to complete her law degree. Things change when an official letter arrives from Moldavia including a check for air travel to visit her father, the King. Adelaide's mother never told her who her father was.

Her arrival in Moldavia brings her joy, but heartache soon follows. A Royal Christmas is a magical Christmas read full of surprises, and deception. You will get caught up in the emotions of Adelaide as she discovers things aren't what they appear to be. All the characters were well-developed and I connected with them right away.

I thoroughly enjoyed the inspirational and uplifting storyline filled with faith, strength, and love. It's a story that you will remember. Another great read from Melody. Highly recommended.

I received a complimentary copy from the publisher and a positive review is not required. All opinions are my own.

This is a sweet story of my favorite holiday, Christmas. It has family drama, intrigue, and romance in this short story. It is a quick, easy read.

My only issue with the story was that the entire time I was reading, I felt like I was reading a book version of the Princess Diaries movies. While I loved those movies, I was hoping for more originality with this story.

I was given a complimentary copy of this book by the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions expressed are completely my own.

This is a nice, quick Christmas read with a modern fairytale storyline. A young American law school student finds out that she has a royal family member in a foreign country. It even comes with a mean stepmother. The story has a great festive mountain village setting from an older time period in present day decorated for Christmas and Christmas activities and with likable characters. I would have enjoyed a more in-depth story that was developed and not so short but nevertheless, it is a great Christmas read to break up longer and heavier books during the holidays. I enjoyed how the characters talked about the real meaning of Christmas and I could picture the hand carved nativity that they put up for the festivities.
I received a copy for the purpose of an honest review. These are my thoughts.

A Royal Christmas
by Melody Carlson
Rating: 4/5

Who doesn't love a good Christmas story? As a huge fan of Hallmark Christmas Movies, I absolutely enjoyed this novella. The characters were spunky and fun and authentic. The situation obviously takes some digging into the imagination but who doesn't love a good Cinderella story? Or a good Princess Diaries plot? I enjoyed the world building and the setting a lot. I was transported to the world of royalty and it was a great escape. The Christmas aspects make the book even more festive and provide a great backdrop for the story.

Highly recommend this fun Christmas novella for those that enjoy clean romance with humor and fun!

My thanks to the author and publisher for providing me with an ARC of the book. All opinions expressed here are entirely my own. No positive review was expected and no compensation received.

Melody Carlson is an author whose Christmas story is one I always look forward to reading. This year A Royal Christmas is fairytale perfect as Adelaide Smith discovers that she is indeed related to royalty. It may be only a small Eastern European principality called Montovia. Someone who has worked so hard and diligently all her life, she is a bit skeptical when she first hears this. However it turns into a truly special Christmas for her.

Adelaide Smith is older character than the Princess Diaries, since she is a college law student who is now alone after the death of her mother a few years earlier. There are a few similarities though. Sadly, the Queen is not Julie Andrews. Adelaide is so relatable and wants to know this family more than being part of all things “royalty”. Such a fun sweet clean read that would make a great movie too.

Indulge your fantasies a little with a magical Christmas read of A Royal Christmas. It will certainly bring a smile to your face.

The publisher through Net Galley provided a complimentary digital copy. I have voluntarily decided to read and review, giving my personal opinions and thoughts.

I always look forward to a Melody Carlson Christmas novella. I don't usually gravitate towards books about royalty but decided to give this one a go and it was quick fun read. 4 stars!

The first half of the story was fairly predictable, but then the second half surprised me with all the twists and turns. I was happy to travel along with Adelaide to visit her newly discovered father's country, enjoying visits to the majestic castle and charming village along with its welcoming villagers. All in all, it was an entertaining tale complete with requisite happy-ever-after. I appreciate Revell Publishing making a copy of A Royal Christmas available for review. All thoughts and opinions are my very own.

Every holiday season, one of the things I look forward to is reading Melody Carlson's Christmas books. While her other stories are great too (she was in fact one of my very first introductions into Christian fiction), there's just something about her Christmas stories that I cannot get enough of. A Royal Christmas was absolutely no exception.

Right from the start, this definitely gave me Princess Diaries (the movies) vibes, in both the main character discovering she was a princess and events later in the story that I won't say so as not to give spoilers. Still, it very much was its own unique story as well. There was such a nice mix of holiday charm, faith and royal drama/mystery that kept me very much intrigued through to the end. As a novella, it was a very quick read--- I was able to finish in one sitting. While I definitely think this could have been even better as a full-length novel to maybe have seen more development in the romance aspect of the story, I still felt like the story felt complete as it was. I will say I was a little bit confused about how the line of succession in this country worked and wished there would have been a little more clarity on that... but it didn't take away from my enjoyment of the story.

If you're looking for a fun Christmas novella and love a good royal story, this is certainly one worth checking out.

This was a very fun read. It was short and really sweet. It was good to see good triumph over evil. I think I’ll always remember the saying, “God’s plan, God’s time.”

Lovely Christmassy read, however I felt like they tried to fit too big a story into a novella, it just didn’t go deep enough into it for me and everything was resolved too quickly.

Love this author though and it did get me excited for Christmas as the setting was beautiful!

This is the sweetest fairly-tale romance with a Cinderella type romance. I loved that it is, also a Christian romance. Student lawyer, Adelaide, does not quite believe the letter telling her she is the daughter of the king of a small European country. Of course, she goes to Montovia to meet her father the king. Yes, there is a villain or two in this romance to keep us on our toes as we read to learn of Adelaide’s new life as a princess. Her new friend, Anton, is nephew to the Prime Minister who guides her around the country and into royal life. There is a bit of a struggle for them to find their HEA as she is living the royal life and thought to be above Anton’s reach.

This is my first Melody Carlson romance and I loved it!

The trope of commoner learning she is royalty strikes again!
Adelaide is a struggling law student who receives an invitation to meet her father, previously unknown to her, who is king of a tiny principality called Montovia.
I enjoyed it to a point, but it seemed pretty unrealistic.
Three stars.
