"The Resurrectionist" presents a gritty portrayal of 1820s London, where the pursuit of anatomical knowledge collides with moral ambiguity. While the premise holds promise, the pacing occasionally falters, and the characters lack the depth needed to fully engage the reader. Despite these shortcomings, the novel succeeds in creating a vivid and atmospheric setting, offering a glimpse into the darker aspects of society's obsession with science and power during this era.

I physically couldn't read this book. The ARC was formatted horribly. Even with that, what I could read wasn't grabbing me and I likely wouldnt have finished it anyway.

What a fun little little twist on a vampire story. This was so much better than I thought it would be.

I loved this dark historical fiction and that each chapter comes from a different character. Rich in historical detail, the plot captured me.
Many thanks to PR by the Book and to Netgalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

The idea of grave robbers seems very distasteful and criminal, until you realize that without these bodies being disturbed from their final resting places there wouldn’t be the advances in medicine that occurred during the Victorian era as most of these bodies were sold to doctors and surgeons who used them for study. This book opens your eyes to the useful side of grave robbing, while telling a tale off the poor and downtrodden and how sometimes you need to do things you might not want to in order to be free.

Great read. Well-developed characters. Easy to follow storyline with low drama. Would highly recommend this book to anyone wishing to pass a couple of hours.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing an e-arc of this book.
I was very excited to read this book after I read Anatomy: a love story and found the concept of the body snatchers very interesting as someone who hopes to train as a doctor in the future, This book follow a few characters, each chapters tend to be from a different character that connect to the main story line. Unfortunately I made to half way into this book and nothing has happened. We get a lot of background into all the characters but not much of it matters into the actual storyline. It feel like filler words to increase the word count. I love prison break and that storyline but this book overpromises and under delivers.

This book blew me away, the mixture of good and evil characters combined with the outstanding writing style kept me completely enthralled. At times it broke my heart and others lifted me all the way up.
The Historical fiction for me is the best kind of horror, to see humans at their absolute worst, made for one of my favorite reads this year. Fantastic and I trully recommend ot for the horror lovers like me.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
This one fell a bit short for me. It sounded really interesting but I just did not enjoy it. Definitely lacking.

The premise drew me in. The execution was a bit...too thorough? Enjoyable but dense and honestly a bit confusing.

Thanks to the author and netgalley for providing me with a copy for my honest review.

Definitely my type of story based on the premise!!

Historical setting, macabre and gruesome scenes, body snatching, etc.

However, I just couldn’t immerse myself into the story. I would get a bit bored, put it down and then pick it up not remembering who’s POV I was reading from (there are so many!)

Another annoyance- the formatting of this arc created MULTIPLE sentence jumbles (at least I’m hoping it’s a formatting issue vs editing issue) that disrupted the flow of the story.

Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and PR by the Book for a copy.

“The Resurrectionist” by Paul T. Scheuring is set in London in the year 1820, during a time when physicians were eager to uncover the secrets of human anatomy and some were even resorting to working with criminals to obtain fresh bodies for study. Enter Job Mowatt, a body snatcher or resurrectionist, who has taken on this risky profession in order to provide for his daughter, Ivy. When he’s approached by an anatomist named Percival Quinn and offered payment to dig up the wife of a wealthy man, Job knows that although he is inviting trouble, this could be his chance to secure a better future for his daughter.

Despite the intriguing premise and setting, “The Resurrectionist” failed to capture my attention. I felt that while the story had potential, it never fully came together due to too many characters and a slow pace. However, I did appreciate the beautiful cover art on the book itself.

Overall, “The Resurrectionist” provides an interesting glimpse into 19th century London society but may not be for everyone due to its pacing issues.

Thank you NetGalley and Paul Scheuring for allowing me to east this novel. Now reading this book was interesting and it was dark. It stays in Victorian England and Cager is a Ressurectionist in training. Caver is learning how to exhume , study the human body and , learning how they died and to how they lived before they died. It gave me Dark Academia vibes. Now reading the book you get full details on anatomy, it’s written in third person and you get the tea on every character and their back story. The best part, we read each character’s journey to being more in life from where they came from. I love how melancholy, gruesome, informative Paul made this novel and he did a good job keeping me entertained and wondering for more.

This book was a real hard one to read as the kindle version that downloaded was a mess. What I could read seemed very interesting though and the plot is very good but I can't really give you a review on it the way I would like to. I think I missed things because of the formatting and it didn't quite make sense by then end.

If there is a new version to download, let me know and I will read it again. I could tell the writing was good.

I loved the premise of this book. Stealing dead bodies in the 1800s for doctors definitely hit every box of my dark academia aesthetic. The book is very easy to get into and the story flows nicely. I just wish the story had been longer because I loved many of the characters. The story ended without a definitive closure for one of the characters and I'm hoping that's a sign that there will be a sequel focusing on that character. I need more resurrectionist stories from this author

This book blew me away, the mix of good and evil characters combined with the amazing writing style kept me completely enthralled. At times it broke my heart and others lifted me all the way up. Historical fiction with the best kind of horror, real life humans at their absolute worst, made for one of my favorite reads this year. There were numerous parts that I highlighted for quotes, both Poe-esque in nature and simply disturbing in the ways we love but don't discuss with others for fear of them assuming we are psychopaths. Scheuring has a gift for telling a tale that is both horrendous and harrowing.

While the book was well written, I found it hard to follow so many characters. The author does a good job of wrapping it all up with a nice little bow and closing the gaps. I read any and all genres, yet I struggled with this book. I feel that it was a bit wordy in places.

In this story, we find an idea of how medical learning came to be. We see how ideals and addictions find us. We see how different classes of people behave and look at and to other classes.

I would recommend this book to others.

The Resurrectionist is full of dark, macabre imagery that is sure to send shivers down the spine of readers. The characters, too, are well-crafted, and their development over the course of the book is impressive. One of the strengths of the book is its pacing. The author has managed to keep the story moving at a brisk pace without sacrificing any of the details that make the book so captivating. The twists and turns in the plot keep the readers guessing and engaged throughout the book.

Scheuring has done a great job writing an engrossing and entertaining book that is sure to appeal to fans of historical thrillers and horror. The book is well-written, well-researched, and features a unique and intriguing plot that will keep readers hooked until the very end.

A poor man is hired by a rich man to dig up the body of a different rich man's wife. Set amid the body-snatching days of Victorian England, when doctors needed more bodies than they could get for the study of anatomy, the details here are great but the characters are dull; the class-warfare angle is intriguing but not fully followed on; and overall the writing was nothing special. You can give this one a miss.
