I wanted so much more from this book but I honestly thought it was kind of all over the place. The fact that she lets a magic eight ball make her decisions and she actually listens to it is a little concerning. Keith wasn’t a super big character but he also got on my nerves because he was an asshole. Ends with a HEA which is good. Overall a fine read but not my favorite of the year.

School rivals? School rivals.

It's a story with a quick pace, the characters made the story so easy to read. The romance happened in a way that feel organic and real. Now i don't know about law school, but this story feel like realistic because compared to the movies didn't feel too hollywood.

I gave this a 2.5 stars. I thought the overall goal for the book was a cute idea, but the execution was lacking for me. It took me longer to finish, and I found myself veering off to read other things that held my attention.

If you are in school and need a break, pick up this cute slow-burn RomCom!

Simone and Silas are defintely friends to lovers goals! I loved their banter at the beginning of the book. Silas was super thoughtful even when her was coming off as a know-it-all. Together they study and prep for their classes. Simone starts to realize she is starting to see Silas as more than a friend. However, she has more than enough going on with school so she isn't trying to start a relationship.

When I started this book I didn't know if I would like it. Who decides to go to law school because they shook a Magic 8 ball and it said yes. Then she was ill prepared walking in there like everything would be easy. I do like how Silas genuinely wanted to help but he also seemed a little immature for his age. I also didn't like that Simone seemed to always have no confidence and people had to always reminded her to be more confident.

With all the little irritations it was still a cute book. I was definitely reminded that you need to dig deep and find your best confident self and to be prepared if you go to law school!

I loved this book!! It was a great enemies to lovers story. I felt like there was great chemistry between the two characters as well.

This was a super cute and easy read! I enjoyed the writing style and I loved how much of a focus law school was in the book. I related a lot to the MC especially when it came to anxiety of failing and wanting to give up. I loved seeing her push through and realizing what it was that she truly wanted out of life. The banter between the two leads was witty and fun; the chemistry was great!

This was definitely a slow burn, slow to get into the story read. I was really intrigued by the premise but wasn't a fan of the single POV. It took me a while to get invested in the love story.

I liked the premise of Simone changing her career path in her mid-twenties after consulting a magic 8 Ball because she was unhappy with her current job, but the romance didn’t work for me as much as I would have liked. I loved Simone and Silas’ relationship, but the romance bogged me down a bit. Professor Patton was my favorite character in the book. She had the best story arc, and I loved her character. Keith was just a random character, and I wish we’d gotten more out of Rafael and Tiffany’s relationship and dynamic. Overall, this is a great debut, and I look forward to seeing more from Kristen Alicia in the future.

This was cute and easily ready. I loved how these two met and the journey and friendship existed before things got serious.

Simone Alexander has made a big life change and needs to prepare for all its trials. She made some new friends that will help guide her through that process. Silas is one of those friends and neighbours.

It was beautiful to be a part of these two figuring it out together and apart. A great later in life coming of age story

I truly enjoyed the supporting characters. They helped make Simone and Silas figure things out.

I likd the characters and side characters, but there wasn't really anything in the romance to bring me in, I was mor intersted in the changing of careers so abruptly.

This book was very realistic and cute at the same time. The main character Simone is a broke 26-year-old that goes through a major career change and starts law school after being unsatisfied with her career as a chef. She meets one of her classmates, Silas, who she thinks is her competition, during their first class, and they develop a friendship. Both mc's like each other but don't get together until a lot later in the book.

It has a lot about law school and legal stuff, which activated my fight and flight response when I remembered doing international law for my undergrad. Both the characters and the plot were relatable and realistic. I liked how the author portrayed the main characters and their relationship development even though, at times, they acted immature. Overall a fun, diverse read with a sweet romance and likable main and side characters.

Simone has had it up to here with her current boss so when he asks to speak with her she quits. Trying to figure out what to do next, she consults her magic 8 ball. With its guidance, this California girl makes her way to law school in the mid-west, completely out of her element. Showing up to class the first day, she didn't realize that she was really supposed to prepare and is embarrassed by the professor. Silas jumps in and saves her and hopes she will be thankful.
Opinion
I really liked this book. Simone is completely out of her element and that made for an interesting read. Silas is swoon worthy. He has all of the great qualities of a leading man. The book does leave off at the beginning of the second (of three) year of law school. I would love to know what happens to them in the future (and maybe the rest of their study group too.)
Many thanks to Net Galley and Entangled Publishing for providing me with an ARC of this book.

This was a short and sweet romcom. The plot does sometimes jump around but I really liked the main characters, Simone and Silas. I definitely didn’t start out liking either of them and there was a moment where I wondered if I would finish the book. I'm not a fan of how Simone chose her path using a magic eight ball and how she seems very flippant about law school in the beginning. She’s obviously studying and trying her hardest but her heart is not in it. Silas is an interesting character with midwest charm. I started to like the characters and plot a lot more as they entered their second semester of law school. Everyone is more likable and the plot is more interesting. Overall I liked it but probably won’t reread it.

The heat outside warmed her shoulders as she walked toward the building that would alter the course of her life. Making a huge career turn had uprooted her and transplanted her here… back at college once again. The weight of the books in her back reminded her of all that was to come, but she felt good. She was confident this was the right move.

You’ve Been Served follows Simone, an aspiring professional chef who one day quits her job after not feeling the joy in cooking anymore and decides to go back to school to study law.

I loved the sound of the premise of this book, but it was not executed well. For characters in their late 20s/early 30s, they read like teenagers. Very immature in their actions and interactions. I didn’t find the romance between Silas and Simone believable; their chemistry was severely lacking. This book being told from only Simone’s perspective I believe hindered their chemistry build and character dimension. I also didn’t appreciate Simone questioning Silas’s blackness/ethnicity… that really rubbed me the wrong way. Just not the book for me.

If you enjoy books about characters finding their way in life and making big changes… you may enjoy this one.

A very fun book and a very interesting read, but in the end it left with a feeling of just...okay. I really liked the protagonist, she had a very chaotic energy, and the narrative is very fluid, it's just the romance that didn't do much for me. A lost as the characters had potential. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an arc in exchange for an honest review!

RANDOM. Honestly that could be the whole review. This book was just the definition of random. I feel like a lot of the aspects and scenes in this book weren’t even related and at times i found myself confused why certain things were even happening.

The book is based on our MC using a magic 8 ball to determine her future while in law school.

While i did find it somewhat entertaining and the banter was funny. I was stuck on the fact that the characters were very surface level making it hard to connect with any of them. It felt too unrealistic and now that i’m finished it is extremely forgettable.

I did enjoy the narrator or as i hoped between digital and audio.

I really enjoyed reading this book! It's got romance, friendship and a lot of humour! 🥰 Even though it focuses on law school sometimes, which has some more difficult terms, it was all well explained.

a cute rom-com to enjoy. I liked Kristen's writing and humor, and the characters made me really fall in love with the story! I'd love to read more books from this author.

What made me want to read this book wasn't the fact that it's described as Legally Blonde meets Jasmine Guillory (because we don't need her going to law school for a man), it was the fact that she decided to go to law school based on the magic 8 ball's answer. Who doesn't love doing things on a whim? I enjoyed this book. It's a quick read and a straightforward romance.

What I enjoyed most about this book was that the romance felt like a side plot, instead of the main plot. I could feel the chemistry between Simone and Silas, and I wanted them together as soon as possible. But I was more interested in if Simone was going to get her shit together with school or not.

If you love the story of the underdog that takes a leap of faith and comes out on top, then this is the book for you. I loved the way this book reminded me Legally Blonde, but with more flavor and less "following my ex to college." I listened to this book on audiobook and loved the narration.
