4.25 stars. I’m still enjoying this Norse mythology inspired YA series. In this second installment (I recommend reading them in order) you’re already familiar with the world that Warner created and the main characters. Because of this there was more room for adventures and action in this book as compared with the first book.

The main character of this book is Sigrid, who is now an honorary Valkyrie, but she still struggles with her place in the hierarchy and acceptance by the other young Valkyries. She sets out to rescue Ratatosk from the night elves and soon finds herself in another world and figures out a much bigger plot.

I still like Sigrid, she’s young and somewhat naive but she shows good character development throughout the book. I also liked Mariam and the sweet romance between her and Sigrid, but Fisk was again for me the biggest surprise. His character is refreshing and so is the friendship between the three. Personally I also enjoyed the role of the war horse Sleipnir and the complicated dynamics between him and Sigrid.

There are a few pacing issues in this book, but with so much things going on the book kept me easily entertained and I even liked it a bit better than the first book. The door is open to a third book and I’ll be there for it. Overal, this is a well written and fun YA book with a lot of action scenes and mythology.

This series felt a bit on the younger side of YA so didn't love them, but they were interesting enough. I probably wouldn't read another installment though.

I was not able to get into this book. The first one had a lot of adventure and I feel like this one was lacking quite a bit. I DNF’d at 40%

The Valkyrie's Shadow is the second in the Sigrid and the Valkyries series by Tiana Warner. In this sequel to the Valkyrie's Daughter, Sigrid is toeing the line between princess and valkyrie. Not to mention her relationship with Mariam. On top of both of those things, her war horse Sleipnir has the strange habit of making her feel a little bit evil. When war comes to Vanaheim from the Night Elves Sigrid makes a deal to ride Sleipnir against her foes to lead the valkyries to victory, even if she loses a bit of herself each time.

The Valkyrie's Daughter was one of my breakout favorites of last year so this sequel had a lot to live up to - and I was not disappointed. We love a good ole main-character-slowly-turning-evil plot line and hot-lesbian-girlfriend has to help bring her back from the edge. I loved it! I think this series is such a underrated one and more people should definitely read it! I think this series and this sequel especially just had a lot that I loved - secret princess, sapphic romance, found family - that I just couldn't get enough! I'm so excited for the next book(s?) in the series!

I'd recommend the Valkyrie's Shadow to fans of the first book and the entire series (starting with the Valkyrie's Daughter!) to those who want to read a series about valkyrie's, war and sapphic romance.

Thank you to Entangled Teen and Netgalley for an eARC of this novel. All thoughts and opinions contained within this review are my own.

I feel for me this just wasn't a great fit. I did end up "dnf-ing" at about 35%. The story concept intrigued me and I enjoyed the first book. I think the FMC was just read a little too YA for me and this one just did not hold my attention like I would've liked. Overall I think this is a great story for the right reader. It's wonderful to see a strong female lead in a sapphic fantasy romance.

3.5 stars it was a pretty good read and I liked it more than book one. No strong feelings either way. I probably would have loved it when I was younger! i liked sigrid more in this book than book 1 but am still having trouble connecting to the characters but it could just be because it’s younger ya.

I didn't realize from the promotional material that this was a sequel and I read over 1/2 of the first book in the series, which was a lot of information to process. I am going to go back and try to finish but unfortunately I have DNFed this series for now. I see the potential for it to be very appealing, especially to my students who are in the proper age range for the target market. I just can't force myself to finish the book at this time!

The Valkyrie's Shadow was a worthy sequel that kept me hooked and wanting to read more. I love the theming and this adventure was wild and full of fun.

Valkyrie's Shadow begins right where Valkyrie's Daugther ended. Sigrid is dealing with her feelings regarding the information she learned at the end of the previous book, and she is navigating her feelings about her newfound relationship(? she's unsure!).

I believe Tiana Warner's writings would be very well loved by any young queer teen girl who is interested in nordic mythology. She writes Sigrid's feelings so well, and I truly felt like a young teen experiencing these emotions again for the first time. It was very cute. I think Warner writes YA books very well for a YA audience, and I would highly recommend to YA readers!

The Valkyrie’s Shadow is the newest book in the Helheim Prophecy series. This book is the sequel of The Valkyrie’s Daughter which I really liked. The first part was full of adventure and I really hope this part will feature that as well. What will I think of this book?

Even though the Valkyries still treat her like a stable hand, Sigrid is now one of them and also a princess. When her first mission sends ripples through the cosmic balance of the Nine Worlds there seems to be more behind it. Soon she finds out this disbalance is caused by Loki. War is luring and Sigrid must make a deal with their new queen. The line between good and evil seems closer than ever, and one mistake can mean destruction. Can Sigrid save Vanaheim from war? What does Loki want?

In this book you will get to know Sigrid even better. She gets the change to be a royal, but is this what she really wants? In addition she still fears Sleipnir but has to work with him for Vanaheim. What will this bring for their relationship?

Tiana Warner has a nice writing style which I enjoyed. This book is a little bit slower paced than the first part in this series, which also makes their is less tension throughout the storyline. In addition I would have loved to read more about Loki.

I have to admit I liked this part less than I liked the first book in this series. There isn’t much going on for the half of the story which made it a bit boring. However this improved during the second half of the book. I still am curious about what this series will have in store for it’s readers next. Just because the first part of this book is less good I have to give The Valkyrie’s Shadow a 3,5 stars.

Tiana Warner masterfully weaves a heart-stopping adventure, skillfully interwoven with the tapestry of Norse mythology.
I recommend reading The Valkyrie's Daughter before picking up "The Valkyrie’s Shadow" as part of this captivating series for a seamless continuity of the story. Picking up right where the first book left off, the story propels us into Sigrid's world as she assumes her role as an honorary Valkyrie, embarking on a crucial mission to rescue Ratatosk the ferryman from the clutches of the Night Elves. Unbeknownst to Sigrid, monumental change awaits her homeland and personal life.

I loved this book. It was just as good as the first and kept me wanting to read the next page to see what happened next. I love the norse theme with its heartstopping adventure. I would say to read in order so that you can follow the storyline and understand who the characters are and what is happening.

The Sigrid and the Valkyrie’s series by Tiana Warner has become an epic saga for me. I loved the first book, The Valkyrie’s Daughter, but got lost in The Valkyrie’s Shadow. The characters came to life on the pages in this coming of age story and, even though it is a long book, 435 Kindle pages, I read and read and read…

Because the series needs to be read in order, I will do my best to include NO spoilers.

We have some familiar characters and creatures. Royal politics are complicated and the lines of loyalty are often blurred. I am glad that Sigrid stayed leery, and even though she is a young woman, she does know the difference between right and wrong. Each individual is as important as any other.

Sigrid wants the best for everyone and slowly builds her self confidence as she is forced to make decisions that will affect the lives of many. She is an lgbtq character and I love that Tiana Warner adds that extra something to make her character stand out. The romance with Mariam was sweet and innocent.

Tora, what a fabulous character. She made me smile. Fisk is another outstanding and unique character that stuck with me.

I loved all the supernatural characters and creatures.

The Valkrie’s Shadow by Tiana Warner has so much depth and detail to the world she has vividly created. I traveled miles with the characters, and not all will survive. We walked, we flew, we sailed…We have valkyries, elves, humans, winged mares (so how do they reproduce), and an eight legged horse that once belonged to a god…We have loyalty and betrayal, friends and lovers…

There is 435 pages of deliciousness and I hated to read the final word. I was left with a feeling of happiness and hope. Tiana, you blew my mind with this awesome story! I don’t feel my review conveyed how much I loved this book, but, maybe I shared enough to make you want to read it for yourself. I do want to stress that it is best to read The Valkyrie’s Daughter first.

I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of The Valkyrie’s Shadow by Tiana Warner.

So I just read and reviewed the first book, The Valkyrie’s Daughter, a couple weeks ago, so you can find that post at the link included in the title. I am happy to report that this second book is also a pretty darn quick read, which is always nice.

I definitely think this book delves into the shadowy murk of second book complications. Things are getting more complicated for Sigrid, and so much of her life is changing in this book.

Honestly, for a little while in this book, Sigrid was being an absolute brat. I mean, I understand why considering the circumstances, but as per the typical with so many books, a lot of her issues could have been dealt with if she had just talked to people, people like her friends. Instead she just sort of buried her thoughts and feelings and tried to go it alone…which you know, *always* works out well for the hero.

This was still an overall solid read. I will admit that at times things some of the adults were saying and doing made me cringe a little…but because it felt very similar to how certain people talk and act in the world today. There are those here who are extremely prejudiced–actually let’s not be gentle with it; they are elitist and racist–and the portrayal did cause me to pause and reflect on the happenings for a little while.

Calling this book The Valkyrie’s Shadow is an appropriate choice. Things are getting shadowier, darker, and it’s clear that something is going to happen, and it’s going to change everything. And things do happen, and it does change A LOT. I’m not going to talk specifics because this book just came out and I don’t like to get into spoiler territory. But I’m very curious where book three will take us, because Sigrid and her companions now have a whole lot more to deal with. Perhaps though, Sigrid has started to learn her lessons and she’ll actually stop the go-it-alone mentality.

Only time will tell, but I’m definitely intrigued by this series. There are a whole lot of characters to enjoy and appreciate, not just ones who we met in the first book, but also a few new characters brought into this second book. I like seeing all the various relationships and personalities. It makes the world a little more layered and that’s fantastic.

This book has political intrigue, battle strategy, friendship, camaraderie, romance, familial drama, betrayal, history and lore drops…and all delivered in a manner that just keeps you reading. I flew through this book as if I was galloping across the realms on Sleipnir myself.

I have loved this series so far. Sigrid and Hestur are an awesome pair. The adventures the gang goes on in other worlds is fast paced and exciting. I love the world building the author has done. The first bit of the book was very much Sigrid in mundane life again so it wasnt keeping me hooked as much as I would have liked. But once the action was going again I was hooked. I still enjoyed the book and can't wait to see what happens next!

This pulse pounding sexual had me on the edge of my seat!

The Valkyries Shadow read a bit more like a military fantasy, is that even a thing? Either way, I loved all of the military machinations!

The romance grew, friendships flourished, heartbreak abounds, betrayal lurks around the corner, and the action is non-stop!

I can’t wait to see what’s next for these characters!

Let me start off by saying that I listened to the first book as an audiobook, but then had this one as an eARC. So, I was really confused and bored for the first 70% of it. I think I would have rather listened to this one then read it. I wanted to DNF it several times, but pushed through because the chapters were so short and it was an ARC. However, I am glad that I finished it. I really thought the last 30% picked up and the book finally started clicking in my head and becoming an actual good book to read. This is pretty much why I'm giving this book 3 stars. I might have even given it more if I listened to the audiobook as I did the first one. If you enjoyed book one, I think you will enjoy this one too and do recommend reading!
