I am not sure how to rate this book. I loved the novel and gave it 5 stars. The review copy was so blurry that I really struggled to read it. I don't think this will be the case with the print version. Right now I am giving it 3 stars because the art is cute and I loved the original, if I can get a copy that is more readable I will update my review.

Upon starting this I was unaware of the source material, but after reading this I’m so intrigued to check it out. This is my first standalone graphic in a while, but it didn’t disappoint. I loved the 80s-esque illustration and colouring I think the story was interesting and how well paced everything was. I would love a prequel to go more in depth to the lore, as I think it could’ve been better explained, but other than that, I have no complaints.

Thank you so much to NetGalley for providing me with an arc in exchange for an honest review!

I loved this
I really like her Sinister Summer series and had the novel on my TBR, so when I saw the graphic novel pop up, I know I hade to swipe it. I love an abandoned amusement park. The story was spooky. The lore was fun. Great time had all around

I almost didn't request Hide because I've never read the source material. And I haven't really enjoyed the few times I've attempted to read other Kiersten White books. Also, not a big fan of Horror. But something about this graphic novel had me clicking request. And it was definitely... something. Very Hunger Games vibes for sure. A little bit of One Day at Horrorland. The cover reminds me of The Cabinet of Souls

I enjoyed the novel of Hide when it came out last year and I enjoyed this graphic novel of the story even more. It helped explain more of what was happening and I thought the illustrations were great.

Hide was published as a 'traditional' novel in 2022 but ended up being a major flop for me. So, imagine my surprise when I learned it was being re-published as a graphic novel. While the story was definitely more suited for this format, it still didn't manage to convey the unsettling or spooky feelings that it set out to.

The illustration style was absolutely stunning and really helped to distinguish the characters from one another (which the original novel struggled with). While the artwork definitely helped to bring White's story to life, it sadly didn't fix the tone of the novel or bring more attention to the creepy abandoned amusement park. I'm also not sure why they chose to keep the long-winded written journal entries in this format when it could've been told through...graphics...since its a graphic novel.

Overall this was better than the 'regular' novel but still average since the story just doesn't live up to its potential.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to review!

I didn’t read the novel it was adapted from prior to reading the graphic novel. I adore adaptations that give you more to world build. I feel like the characters backgrounds were interesting but they fell flat and didn’t add much to the story.

I will probably follow up with the novel but this just didn’t do it for me.

3.5⭐️ rounded up.

3/5

I read the main book first and wasn't really a fan of it.
I have to say the graphic novel did definitely help getting into this world.

There are many things I like in here such as the set of characters and the page where we have the board with all of them side by side with a little bio, that was a very smart move.
Another thing is the art in general, the colors are super vibrant and very eye-catching.
The park attractions are numerous and well crafted as well.
I did enjoy the finale overall, it was literally a rollercoaster!

Now onto the things I liked less.
I had trouble once again following the plot. I still have questions in my head that neither the book nor the graphic novel were able to answer, so can this be recognized as plot holes?
I'm still very confused on the actual origins of all this, we do get loads of "book pages" with tons of infos, but still I don't fully get it. And this connects to another aspect I wasn't a fan of.
There is way too much narration. I didn't like the structure of this book at all.
The majority of the graphic novel has narrative squares instead of dialogues bubbles. And also all those heavy texted "book pages" were soooo annoying. The whole pace of the story was killed by them.
A graphic novel is supposed to have a visual impact with clear dialogues that create the story together.
In here we basically read the book once again with drawings added, resulting in a very slow reading progress.
For it being only 240 pages this took me a lot to read because I was slowed multiple times throughout.

Overall I have to say I indeed enjoyed way more the graphic novel than the book, even if the plot holes I found in the first one are exactly the same here. The good drawings did help having a clear vision of the park and of all the numerous characters, making the experience definitely easier and more captivating.

Right before reading this graphic novel, I decided to read the book first. Loved following it up with this amazing and great graphic novel! I’m so excited I received an ARC for this. Getting to see what the characters looked like and how the game looked was just fantastic. Such a fun and great graphic novel, one not to miss! Can’t wait to buy a physical copy. Thank you NetGalley, Ten Speed Press, Kiersten White and to the amazing illustrators, Veronica Fish & Andy Fish!

I loathed the book when it came out last year, so I was interested to see what I’d think about it in graphic novel form.

While I did like it much better than the book, it still wasn’t my jam. There’s some good social commentary and the premise is certainly interesting, but it just ultimately left much to be desired.

The characters’ backgrounds were intriguing, but they were half-baked and didn’t do much to add to the story itself.

Overall it felt like it added more detail where it wasn’t necessary, but lacked detail where it needed it.

I haven’t given up on the author entirely yet. I like her ideas, so perhaps I’d enjoy another of her stories

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC

I didn’t read the novel before reading the graphic novel-so I didn’t know the story going into it.
I really enjoyed it.
I loved the art and the colors. It was gorier than I expected but everything was so vibrant and interesting and the story was fast paced and scary.

Thanks to NetGalley and Clarkson Potter/ Ten Speed Press for an eARC.

Prior to reading Hide: the graphic novel, adapted by Scott Peterson, I had not read the book it was based on. At the moment, only a few hours after finishing the graphic novel, even before writing this review, Kiersten White’s Hide is one of the first titles in my To Be Read pile.
And I think that is one of the best accomplishments of this graphic novel, which is truthful enough to make you feel for the characters and get invested in the mystery, and, at the same time, vague enough that you know there must be more details in the source material.
Mack is a great main character. Her past is truculent, her future uncertain. And her present is about to get a lot worse. I also some of the other thirteen contestants, even if know that I would love or hate them all with a more detailed background. Again, that is what I hope the original Hide is for, because I definitely need more. I want to find out if there is more to Jaden than being the arrogant, selfish brute. If Ava two, not the veteran one, is more fleshed out.
I loved the abandoned amusement park, not only as a landscape but as another character in itself, the mace, the secrets. The art by Veronica and Andy Fish is beautiful throughout the graphic novel, but the different hiding places in the amusement park feel like the peak of their work; they are creepy, eerie, and you can almost sense how they would both smell and feel under your feet.
And then there is the mystery itself, which I found intriguing at the beginning, full of breadcrumbs for a second reading, and interesting towards the end, even if it felt kind of rushed.

Really enjoyed this graphic novel adaptation of the novel Hide by Kiersten White. I did not read the novel this is based on before reading the graphic novel but I do think that eventually I will go back and read the full novel because this was a very enjoyable story. This story is the reminder that those in power will do anything to stay in power and the journey that leads to the events of this novel. I really loved the illustrations, I found the story easy to follow and the illustrations moved everything along at a good pace. I would definitely recommend this one if you're a fan of horror and really good illustrations. Should we just....go ahead and eat the rich?

The graphic novel adaptation of "Hide" by Kiersten White is an interesting read. The art is wonderful, and the character development is decent. It's obvious that it's an adaptation of a longer work, even if you haven't read the novel. There's more narration than I'd like for a graphic novel, doing a little too much telling versus showing, and even then, it feels a little too compressed. There's clearly a lot of story missing, and presumably a lot of character development that gets skipped over in the adaptation. Still, despite all of that, it is decent, and allows for connection to some characters, such as Mack, Ava, Legrand, and Brandon. Recommended for larger graphic novel collections where horror is popular.

A very strong graphic novel adaptation of Kiersten White's YA novel of the same name. Story was intriguing and bloody. Perfect for fans of slasher horror with a mystery element.

I will admit this is my first adult attempt at a graphic novel. Kiersten White's horror is also new to me, so I found myself really interested and intrigued by both the premise and the artwork. I really enjoyed this and think anyone who has read the novel itself will love a peek into this version.

I was not ready for the escapade to end!

Thank you for providing me the opportunity to review “Hide: THe Graphic Novel” prior to publication. I am appreciative and leave my sincerity review voluntarily.

A little bit of One Day at Horrorland by R.L. Stine. The cover reminds me of The Cabinet of Souls. By R.L. Stine.

Hide has a pretty strong start. We start with these kids (young adults?) being shipped off to an abandoned amusement park for a chance to be the last person standing and winning the prize of $50,000. All these people are sort of lost and broken souls floating around in the world. So why not join this survival test run for a new reality show. The challenge is simple. Hide. Don't get caught. As the group starts to dissappear one by one, the remaining contestants become more and more suspicious. Maybe the real prize is surviving at all.

Hide is full of campy colorful illustrations. It has a spooky horror movie from the 90s feel. I was confused at times about what was going on. Though we get most of the story from Mack's view, we also get short povs from everyone else. I think it's to try and convince us to care about these characters. But the povs were so short and jumpy that I really just wanted to get back to Mack's pov. Things weren't explained very well. That could be because I haven't read the original. The ending felt anticlimatic. It was still a good read and one I can recommend. Yay for the lesbians being the smartest people in the room.

Having read both the novel and graphic novel editions, this version of Hide is much more simplistic in its retelling. I think this simplicity makes some of the characters and their plights a little less compelling, but overall this was an enjoyable graphic novel that teens and adults will find entertaining, to say the least.
