Fourteen people are invited to play a game of hide and seek in an abandoned theme park for a large cash prize. Once the game begins, the players soon realize they are not just participating in a simple game.

I had read Kiersten White's novel, so the plot was very familiar to me. It was a little fun to be able to pick up on all of the little details in the early pages that hint at what is to come. The book also has two sections that are extremely text heavy to delivery exposition, which really replicated the book, but it was still good to read. This was a great adaptation of a fun novel, and Scott Peterson did a great job bringing out a lot of the internal dialogue of the book into the graphic medium. But the graphic novel did a good job in upping the scary atmosphere of the amusement park and the mysteries that lie within. Veronica Fish and Andy Fish's art was excellent throughout the book. The colors and style are super easy to look at and created some striking images at key points in the book.

Hide is an excellent graphic novel that is full of suspense and gory moments. I found myself fully engaged because I wanted to know the answers to the mysteries the novel presented. The plot was good, and it did an amazing job of keeping the suspense consistent throughout the whole thing. I found myself asking over and over "But WHY?" whilst reading. There are a LOT of characters, so some of them near the start feel like toss-away characters, but the plot doesn't lose points for that. It's a standard thing within horror stories of this nature. The one thing I massively disliked was the ending. I was startled when I flipped the page to see the afterword and the acknowledgments. But, I can't personally think of any other way they could have ended the novel, so it's a bit of a moot point. The art style was good! I really liked how each of the characters were designed, they all felt unique even though they were probably meant to be a little bit trope-y. Several scenes are pretty damn gory, but they're not as bad as I thought they would be, seeing as it's a horror graphic novel. Another thing that slightly irked me is that there are parts of the graphic novel that are nothing but text. Literally, just pages upon pages of text on an illustration. I want to condemn it, but if you don't read those walls of text, the novel would make no sense. Those text-only pages are crucial to understanding the plot and having the answers to the mysteries the story presents. It's one of those "It's annoying but it's necessary" moments. I personally feel like this could be adapted into an excellent movie or TV series, as long as they change that lackluster ending. (Spoiler talk will be on my GR as always)

“Fourteen competitors. Seven Days. A thirty-minute hiding window given at the dawn of each day. Gameplay continues until dusk…” So, begins Hide: The Graphic Novel, which is set in an abandoned amusement park in a cellphone free zone. One winner gets $50,000…but what happens to the losers?

A gripping plot reminiscent of Squid Game and Hunger Games is slowed by too many characters especially for a graphic novel. Worst of all is the ending. It’s so sad when something with great promise lets you down. Despite being a horror and thriller genre mashup, I’m not sure if fans of either genre will be satisfied with Hide: The Graphic Novel. 3 stars.

Thanks to Ten Speed Press and NetGalley for a digital review copy of the book.

Really good, I liked it more than the regular novel too. The art style was fantastic. It's definitely worth checking out.

I adored Hide when I read it, finding it to be one of the best adult horror novels I've ever read, despite its being a debut, and found it to have the token humor Kiersten White novels are always including, and the graphic novel was just as easy to love! I found myself enjoying seeing how the Amazement Park was illustrated, contrasting it with my own imagination, and love how this format opens the book up to a whole new audience. The illustrations throughout are absolutely gorgeous, and I adored the new cover. Cannot recommend either format of Hide enough!

Firstly, a thanks goes to the authors, the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with this copy.

Now, let me briefly put my feelings and thoughts into words as I do not like to dally and linger on less positive reviews. This piece of literature follows, or better yet, retells the story written by Kiersten White, only this time in graphic novel form. I must confess that I have not read the previous book and I deem it necessary this piece of information be kept in mind.

I was going into reading this book very intrigued by the synopsis and lured by the promise of a mysterious contest on the grounds of an abandoned amusement park. Which, by itself, sounds like a thrilling-story lover’s dream come true. However, I was unpleasantly surprised to find the story quite lacking. The plot progressed slowly and the ‘plot twist’ wasn’t anything unexpected or innovative. Getting through the book felt like a chore to me but instead of feeling a sense of contentment and accomplishment afterwards all I could feel was resentment and bitterness.

The book managed to get my attention fairly quickly, it failed to deliver though, which saddens me greatly.

I was one of the many who didn't like the written version of this story but I decided to give this a chance anyways, and I was pleasantly surprised. I thought the illustrations were on point and helped me visualize everything better. Easily a 3.75-4 star for me.

Shoutout to NetGalley and Ten Speed Press for this ARC! I was so excited to see that Hide by Kiersten White was becoming a graphic novel. I think it is such a good book for this medium. I read Hide as an ARC in 2021 and I absolutely could not put it down. This adaptation was no different. The concept of a game of hide and seek in an abandoned amusement park is already fascinating, but add in potential paranormal events and people who are desperate to win the cash prize, you have yourself a good horror.

I really enjoyed my time with this! The art style pairs so well with the story itself. I loved that, as the audience, we got to see what the other contestants were up to during the game. Overall, it was a great adaption of the book and I can't wait to see if we will get the same treatment of Mister Magic! If you're looking for a spooky graphic novel, you need to pick this up!

The graphic novel adaptation of Hide by Kiersten White, the story is about a game of hide and seek set in a theme park for the grand prize of $50,000... but what started off as a friendly game only becomes more dangerous as contestants start to be hunted and killed. Fourteen competitors and only one winner, everyone wants to win, but can they survive? I found this to be a fun read and actually enjoyed this format of the story much more than the written novel format. Hide was a fun thriller of a story and I think anyone who is interested in dangerous game stories will have fun with this one.
