This is the second part of the series. Maxim still wants Lennix in spite of everything. Lennix is caving in... but there are so many complications... can their love survive?

In addition to the deep emotions and angst, this book has a lot more action and suspense than the first part. I love the political aspects of the book too. Maxim is terrific. Wish that he is the president in real life....

Thanks to the publisher for the arc.

Excuse me as I type this with tears in my eyes...

This book GOT me - I am all up in my feelings. From the beginning of the book, it started off strong, and kept me engaged from then until the end...when it lost me, just a bit. Books rarely make me cry - but this one is an exception. It could be that I relate to what happened (I won't say more for fear of spoilers), or that I was caught in a moment of weakness; either way, I cried like a baby. I absolutely adore Maxim and Lennix's relationship together, and while they did some things that made me mad (especially you, Lennix), I thought they showed a lot of strength and resilience in their relationship.

I was prepared to be super mad at the ending, but the bonus epilogue helped save it...slightly. Still wish it would have been expounded on more. I was also prepared to be upset about another piece of the story that felt unresolved, but Kennedy left a note explaining the reasoning, and it makes complete sense.

All this to say - I could not recommend this book more. 100/10 - you should read it! Now, excuse me as I go buy and read every other Kennedy Ryan book I can find...

Thank you to NetGalley and Bloom Books for giving me the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I was looking forward to reading this book after reading the first book as it ended in a cliffhanger. This was an okay read for me. I was hoping that there was more romance in this story as there was little of it in the first book, but I wanted to give this book a read it see if it would be better. It wasn't terrible but it just wasn't the story for me. I needed more romance and although there were steamy scenes, I just needed more. There was so much other stuff happening, that I felt it took away from what I needed from Maxim and Lennix, so it was hard for me to believe in their love. This story picks up right where the first book left off with Wallace and Lennix being hostages. I definitely won't give away why they became hostages, or what happened but there will be a bit of heartbreaking along the way. This is a suspenseful story with political issues, presidency, vendetta's and more. The ending was steamy and sweet, but this is the type of story that's a one-time read for me.

This is the follow-up sequel to The Kingmaker, a romance between a Native American woman and an heir to an oil dynasty. This story was fast paced and had action and politics. Overall I liked it but I didn’t love the female lead. But more than anything I DO NOT want to read about butt stuff. The sex scenes were crude. Warning to authors: you write about butt stuff I’m docking a point immediately. -Like there is an extended epilogue I downloaded and it was just butt stuff. Like why?? No.
But thank you Netgalley and Bloombooks for this early copy. I still recommend you check it out!

A solid ending to this duet. It picks up right where the first book ends (phew!), and it continues to follow Lennix and Maxim. One aspect I enjoyed about this one was the political element. It also provided a very satisfying ending.

Picking up right where the cliffhanger left me, well, hanging at the end of book 1, this sequel felt a little bit different than the first installment. It felt more impactful in a way I can't explain.
The romance is still preponderant here, and is exquisite. Getting to witness Nix and Maxim forge a bond even stronger than before, weather the storms thrown their way. It's a beautiful love story 😍
But aside from it, there's a strong lit fic component imho. Ryan manages to capture the essence of millennials these days, or, at least my essence ahah. I wish these characters existed in real life. They would inspire me, restore my faith in our system, in capitalism and in politics in general. I don't want to say too much, but it was a great and inspiring read.
I did like Lennix and Maxim got more than their fair share of drama 😅 I wasn't expecting it and it felt a bit much at times, but it was still an amazing conclusion to this duet 🩷
And now I can't wait to read Kimba's book 😍

Phew thank goodness I could read book 1 and 2 back to back - I don't know how else you could do that given the cliff hanger at the end of book 1! The second book picks up immediately where the first book leaves off and continues bringing all the drama and heat. I really loved seeing Lennix and Maxim's relationship continue to evolve as they find themselves in their new positions. Don't skip the link to the bonus epilogue at the very end because it is *hot*.

I will never shut up about this series and just how incredibly Kennedy’s writing. Lennix and Maxim’s story was awe-inspiring, vulnerable, and so amazingly unique. She will always stay as one of the authors I recommend to any reader!

This picks up right where The King Maker left off and wow was it a suspenseful read!!! I binged it in almost a sitting eager to know how it would end. I don’t want to spoil any events from book one in this review, but I love how we got to see so much more of Maxim and Lennix as a couple and how this story dived into politics, as it centered around a presidency campaign, without being too political.
