The Rebel King by Kennedy Ryan was a delight to read! I don't read much romance but if this is romance, I want all the things immediately. Brilliant writing, superbly crafted characterizations and on-point sequencing! I'm a full on Kennedy Ryan fangirlie!
This book really just took me for a ride. I loved the build up, the character development, and the writing. I would definitely read more from this author!
I really wish this author’s writing style worked for me. While the storyline and plot are strong, as always, and the characters likeable, I find the writing style to be really meandering and at times- boring. The author has a tendency to fully narrate very banal conversations between characters- multiple pages, sometimes entire chapters- of “get to know you” conversations and small talk that do not drive the plot forward. While these conversations actually read like real life conversations, they are boring for me in books- it’s okay for those kind of conversations to be implied in fiction, imo
The Rebel King by Kennedy Ryan is the conclusion of the All the King's Men duology. The novel picks up from the cliffhanger in Ryan's The Kingmaker novel and take readers on an action-filled romantic adventure that keeps readers up all night to finish. The relationship between Nix and Maxim is emotional and filled with chemistry. Readers will appreciate the discussion and handling of social issues, the beautiful romance, and the satisfying conclusion. Kennedy Ryan's series should be on the top of all readers TBR lists.
This is and will be for a very long time one of my favorite books by Kennedy Ryan the story is amazing. I love the strong female characters that Ryan creates in all of her books, this is no different.
i got this book from netgalley.
this book was honestly just not for me. i did not find the romance compelling and was not rooting for them, like maybe there was a reason you guys weren’t together before. i feel like lennix has a direction and purpose in her life and maxim is pretty much just going with the flow. like, his brother was running for president before his assassination (rip) and the whole time he was like “yeah i could never do that” and then owen dies and he’s like “okay i’m running for president now” which i feel like is an insane thing to do. he has zero qualifications besides the fact that he wants to stop climate change or whatever.
he never really understood where lennix was coming from with so many things and would just get upset with her when she would explain her very valid reasonings. like…….you are forty years old. let’s be serious.
i can see why other people like this book/duology but it doesn’t align with my personal tastes.
No words. As always Kennedy Ryan is slaying! I can't wait to read more books by her. Love this duology!
This was an excellent conclusion to the duology. I enjoyed how the characters worked through their problems and grew separately and together.
I really liked this book, it was different than anything else I've read which was a breath of fresh air. I will be recommending this to my friends, and auto buy this author!
This was a great second book, but it really felt like there should have been a third book. It felt like it ended really abruptly for it to be the end of a series.
The Rebel King is book two in the All the King's Men series, and is the conclusion to the series. I was so excited to dive into the conclusion of Maxim and Lennix's story. This book has suspense, romance, and amazing characters to help tell their story.
Kennedy's writing is so, so good. She makes you fall in love with her characters and her stories.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bloom Books for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
The Rebel King is an amazing and captivating read! It picks up right from the cliffhanger in The Kingmaker and has you on the edge of your seat. Kennedy Ryan crafted a story that was full of heart and emotion, with characters that you can't help but love and root for. The story continues following the journey of Maxim, who is determined to win back the girl that he loves, despite the odds stacked against him. It's a story of courage, resilience, and the power of love. I loved watching Lennix and Maxim work through their problem and the journey that came with Lennix learning to trust and heal from her past with Maxim. The growth and development of the characters throughout the series are truly remarkable, and it's incredibly satisfying to see them come into their own in this book. Kenndy has crafted an unforgettable conclusion that will leave readers both satisfied and longing for more. This book is a must-read for fans of epic fantasy, as it delivers on every front - compelling characters, intricate world-building, and a gripping plot.
When you mish mash politics, romance and activism you'd know Kennedy Ryan will live up to expectations because holy hell was this awesome! I hope this turns into a full series
This series is AMAZING! Honestly everything that Kennedy Ryan does is astounding, I am always so enamored with the way that she handles incredibly complex situations with such gentleness and care. You cant go wrong with this book.
Please see my previous review on her other book!!! No just kidding but honestly I am too busy reading another one of her books to properly give this the flowers it deserves JUST PLEASE read these books.
Judging by the Goodreads reviews, I am clearly in the minority because I didn't love it. It is a very spicy, open door romance crossed with political thriller. It just felt like it was trying to do too much. Some very important topics are addressed, but I felt like I was getting hit over the head after a while.
It’s fascinating, it’s cultural, political and steaming hot
Lennix and Maxim both want to change the world.
Kennedy Ryan is a master at weaving real world issues and steamy scenes in a way that is authentic and entertaining.
Ugh! Where do I even start? Lennix and Maxim are it for me. I absolutely devoured this book front page to back. My copy is worn out!!! It’s so funny how Kennedy never fails to make me cry. (Even out of happiness.) I loved how their beautiful love story concluded and I can’t wait to see glimpses of them in Kimba’s story!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Genre/tropes: romance, politics, activism
CW/TW: kidnapping, assassination, PTSD
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗯𝗲𝗹 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗴 didn’t waste time in picking up from where the cliffhanger in 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗿 left us. It’s thrilling, has action, and plenty of that other spicy action, too 😉
When things go back to relatively normal after the first couple of chapters, Lennix and Maxim get down to the nitty gritty of their jobs. They’re both workaholics and with core principles that guide them. However, they start to clash about Maxim’s overprotectiveness now that Lennix is out of danger. I’ll be honest, they both have valid points and they are both knuckleheads about this. Their careers take a drastic, unexpected turn, and then it’s about how their relationship will survive under the mounting pressure and close, watchful eyes.
I liked it overall! It had all the stuff that keeps me glued to the book - excellent dialog, plenty of moving parts, equally matched MCs, even more spice than the first book. What irked me and is always irksome to me no matter the author or story - anything remotely resembling uber alpha MMC possessiveness. I know some readers find that attractive and swoon over it. That trait just gives me the ‘icks’. Aside from that, I felt that the story’s momentum was always at a steady speed and never felt a lull.
I’m so glad I finally got to read this. Kennedy Ryan is up there for me. So if you want your spicy romance with a slice of political intrigue, here you go!
Many thanks to @netgalley & @read_bloom for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.
A great follow up to The Kingmaker. Kennedy Ryan knows how to weave a cultural lesson in with a fascinating love story. Thanks to the publisher and netgalley for this copy for read and review
