I was grateful to receive a copy of thus book to read. The hype was very impressive. I came here to say that it was also accurate! This book is a MUST READ. I have not had a satisfying read like that in a while.
Victoria Jenkins's books will keep you hooked until the very end. But somehow, it did not happen with this book. The mystery of the book plays with the conditioning of the readers.
So, let's start with all the good things about the book. The description of the isolated farmhouse was well-written. the readers can easily visualize the entire setup. The author also used bovine TB and the financial struggles of the farmers as a subtext. The struggle is affecting their physical and their mental health.
The book has a small pool of characters, and it's easy to navigate through them. The readers get an insight and background about Natalie, but when comes to Jake, it's very blurry.
The glue that should have held the characters, the context, and the storyline together was missing. The nature of the crime, also, felt a little too rushed.
Overall, a good read of 3 stars.
Thank you, NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced copy of the book.
My husband is keeping secrets. I’m watching his every move…
Jake and I were childhood sweethearts. Strong, dependable and with a smile that melts my heart, he is the perfect husband and father to our beautiful little daughter. We have our money troubles – but getting a lodger, Kara, calms the panic I feel about our bills. Jake is reluctant but what choice do we have?
WOW!! An amazing psychological thriller that brings you through all the valleys, up all the hills, down all the slippery slopes and through every twist and turn a thriller should! This will make you second guess ever wondering if you truly know someone or if you know someone you don't know better than the one you do! When the story first begins, you will not expect what you're about to read and while reading from multiple perspectives, you'll keep pace easily and won't totally get it until you realize who's been narrating. Incredibly written and a 5 out of 5 read for me! Thank you Netgalley and Victoria Jenkins for taking me down the rabbit hole of intense expectations!
Well, this was an addictive read proving once again that Jenkins knows how to deliver a psychological thriller that both thrilled and shocked! This is one book where it could be very easy to inadvertently give away a spoiler, so all I will say about is it was a very cleverly executed tale and Jenkins at her absolute best! From lies to secrets to gaslighting, this latest book by Victoria Jenkins caught me by surprise more than once. With pressure to keep their bills paid, Jake and Natalie decide to take on a boarder. They are running a farm and are struggling to make ends meet. They both agree to rent a room to a woman named Kara, an IT worker, but it doesn’t take long for Natalie to have regrets. Suspicious of Kara from almost the very start, Natalie begins having unusual issues, not the least of which lands her in the hospital. These problems extend to her young daughter, thus raising red flags.
To say that this book has twists is an understatement. Victoria Jenkins led me down a twisty little trail, leaving me shocked and breathless. I absolutely loved every second of this book and it is definitely a must read! I just wish it had been longer!
The first half starts slow and I did think I was going togive up on it, but then woosh, once the twists come they don’t stop. This was my first novel by this author and I look forward to reading her others.
This was my first book by Victoria Jenkins and I really enjoyed it! I was hooked right from the start because I felt I was missing something important and was eager to figure out what it was. When the big twist dropped about half way through the book, I was pleasantly surprised. I tried hard to figure it out and it never did come to me, I love when that happens in a book. There were a few more twists and turns that kept the second half interesting as well. I would definitely recommend Happily Married and can’t wait to check out more of Victoria Jenkin’s books.
I give this book 4 stars! Victoria Jenkins is a great author and this book was not an exception. I could not put this book down it was very addicting. The story kept me on the edge of my seat. This story basically involves getting a roommate to help with finances. It begins as an innocent event but quickly turns sour. You have no idea who to trust or believe. It has plenty of twist and turns. Pay attention or you will miss important details!
Loved this book had some great twists I didn't see coming but then I've always loved that about Victoria Jenkins books..
This was a new author for me.
The storyline was good, I liked the change in perspectives between characters. I liked writing style and I liked the twist at the end. Will definitely be on the look out for more books by this author.
Thank you to the Publisher & NetGalley for the opportunity to review!
Happily Married was definitely full of unexpected twists and turns. I don't think I really felt comfortable with what I knew at any given moment, and the ending left me speechless. I feel like this fits into a genre that I'm going to label as domestic thrillers, and that contains other titles like The Silent Wife, The Wives, and The Perfect Marriage. If you liked those, you will like this.
This book was amazing!!! The plot twist will leave your jaw on the floor! I didn’t see a lot of it coming. It was a slow burn for the first half, and then it was twist after twist!
Thank you NetGalley for letting me read this amazing book!!!
This is a really good read , with a brilliant twist about half way through that i had to reread several times to make sure I was right . Natalie and Jake are married with a small daughter , to help out with the bills they agree to take in a lodger , Kara . Unfortunately things don't seem to go as planned and soon malicious things are happening around the farm , and Natalie is convinced JAke is having an affair all this seems to have something to do with Kara , well written and a very enjoyable read
Ok, hear me out. This is getting three stars from me because I found the different POVs very hard to keep up with. It can get very confusing at times but once the first twist is revealed the confusion subsides. This one has a lot to unpack with lots of surprises. It definitely keeps you on your toes. If you’re looking for a quick read with lots of secrets, this one’s for you.
Thank you Victoria Jenkins, Bookouture, and NetGalley for a copy of this ARC in return for an honest opinion.
4/5 stars. I enjoyed this book. The story is about a husband and wife with a 3 year old daughter who are having financial problems running their farm. They decide to rent a room in their house to a woman to help with bills. The wife suspects her husband is having an affair when she comes home one night to find her husband and their lodger close together on the couch. Bad things start happening around the farm and the wife becomes more suspicious that something is happening under her nose.
The author has this way of making you think you know exactly what’s going on and then she hits you with the twist. I totally did not see that twist coming. I’m pretty sure my jaw really did drop. I had to go back and reread a few chapters just to see how I missed that twist coming.
All in all, the story held my interest. In the beginning, I was trying to figure out where the author was taking it since it seemed so obvious, but then the twist hit and a few more twists followed. I definitely enjoyed this story and would recommend it to anyone that likes a good twist.
Psychological thriller or domestic drama..................I'm not sure which category this book would fall in to but it was a great story . I thought I had guessed where it was leading , and then the twist. Didnt see that coming.
Thank you to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this ARC which I highly recommend
Great story with wonderful characters. This tale was one that kept me interested from cover to cover.
Happily Married by Victoria Jenkins is a fast paced , addictive rollercoaster ride that does not let up . It has great characters and is an excellent psychological thriller with lots of secrets and twists and turns to discover that keeps misleading the reader .
I would like to thank Bookouture & NetGalley for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest and fair review
Natalie and Jake are struggling with their marriage, not helped by worrying finances on the family farm. To make some extra cash, they agree to take in a lodger but things start to go even more wrong once Kara moves in...
Happily Married is a domestic drama and psychological thriller.
Natalie and Jake's marriage hasn't been great for a while. The pressure of parenting alongside the running of the farm mean they haven't had much time for each other. We know that Jake has been having an affair while Natalie is suspicious but has no proof. Into this stressful situation arrives Kara as a lodger but her behaviour concerns Natalie and a series of unpleasant incidents make Natalie feel unsafe.
The book is written from a third person perspective of Natalie and the first person viewpoint of Jake's lover. We witness the sinister preparations for the destruction of Natalie's marriage as well as danger for her and her daughter. I liked being able to see both sides to the events as it increased the tension and anticipation.
There is a HUGE twist halfway through and I had to reread the page to make sure I was understanding correctly. It made me reconsider everything I thought I knew about the plot and characters. Things get a lot darker in the second half of the book. I couldn't put this book down and there were more twists even in the final chapter.
Happily Married is a gripping thriller with a huge twist.
Wild. Absolutely wild.
Twisty and confusing (in the best way).
The unreliable, unknown narrators threw me for the first few chapters . . . then I had them completely wrong! So, so wrong.
I only guessed ONE of all of the twists and that was only right before it was revealed. 👏🏻
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for this eARC for review!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
(Rounded up from 3.75)
My only complaint is I didn’t genuinely like any of the characters. I felt like I should be rooting for Natalie and I just didn’t like her.
Really enjoyed this fast-paced psychological thriller. I kept turning the pages late into the night - just couldn't put it down. The twist blew me away!
