Happily Married by Victoria Jenkins is another exciting, engrossing, page turner.
I was completely hooked from the beginning, it's unputdownable and the twists were shocking and unexpected.
This story moves at a quick pace and is equally engaging and compelling.
The multiple points of views and intriguing characters really set the scene here for an an engaging and entertaining story.
The way this book is written is very clever and the tension mounts slowly throughout.
A completely addictive psychological thriller with a shocking twist.

Wow! This is my second book from Jenkins, and I love her books. I’m pretty sure I have whiplash after reading this book with all the twists that I didn’t see coming! I thought this was a pretty straight forward book, that I had it all figured out. NOPE! Guess again! I really enjoy books that do this to me. It’s not fun if I am able to figure everything out. The story is told from multiple points of view, third person for Jake and Natalie, and first person for the person with whom Jake is having an affair. None of the characters seem reliable, not even Natalie, and that’s just because someone is messing with her! Jenkins has a way of writing that you can’t put the book down, and you simply must devour the book. That makes this a quick read. And when it’s over, you’ll be searching for your next Jenkins book. I would recommend this book to anyone that loves a good thriller, a thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat.
At the beginning of this novel we are introduced to our main character, Natalie, who became an orphan at a young age and inherited a diary farm, which she now runs with her husband Jake, and their childhood friend, Tyler. Things aren't going too well for her at the moment; their cows are ill, her husband is very distant and her little daughter, Elsie is also poorly.
To earn some extra money, she takes in a lodger, a beautiful, young woman named Kara.
It is a fast paced, interesting story with short, punchy chapters and relatable characters.
The first half of the story was a solid 5*.
And then came the twist. Oh boy, that blown my mind! It was shocking, realistic, brave and so original! It made me go back to the beginning of the book to re-read some chapters. And then, I found an inconsistency that just thrown the whole thing off. I get that we are supposed to be mislead, but one part just didnt make sense after the twist. It was disappointing because those few words could have been left out and we still would have believed what the author wanted us to believe but this way it didn't make sense anymore. This part is also mentioned later on, so it was obviously important but as I said, it didn't make sense after the twist.
Still, it was a good one, and impossible to guess.
The second part was strange. Natalie didn't come across as a very smart person, because even though she suspected Kara, she never really put it together that all the strange things started to happen only after her arrival and rather questioned her own sanity. And also...why? Why didn't these things start before? It just doesn't make much sense to me.
I haver read reviews where this book was compared to the Housemaid, but in my opinion this novel was more down to earth, more realistic and atmospheric.
I would definitely recommend it to anyone as it is an extremely entertaining, unputdownable, and quick read, but if you truly want to love the twist, don't re-read the whole thing because once you find the inconsistency, you'll feel cheated out of the awesome story it otherwise could have been.
A huge thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this novel in exchange of an honest review.
5 ⭐️!!!!
Wow- what an amazing thriller this was!!! I found myself gasping with my mouth open at one point. Such intentional & easy-to-read writing. Unable to trust any character with so many questions looming while reading it! This is my first novel by this author and I will absolutely be checking out her others. One of my favorite thrillers i’ve read recently!!
I’d like to thank Bookouture, Victoria Jenkins, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this fantastic book.
First of all I would like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for the advance copy! Kudos to the Author I really enjoy reading this book!
Happily Married is a short thriller read that will absolutely question the title at first chapter. Its a story of Natalie and Jake, a married couple living in a farm. Everything went down when Natalie confirmed Jake's affair. You will never guess what will happen next.
I was confused at first due to multiple pov and usually they put who's pov it is on other book but as i finished reading i figured why it is that way! And I totally enjoyed reading and figure out the characters at the start of part 2. How all those second guessing were all wrong after all.
The ending is kinda cliffhanger, and I think maybe theirs another book for it. Despite everything I'm happy with the way the story ends. 3.5/5.
This book is highly recommended for anyone who enjoys a good psychological thriller!! It was a very good page turner, with plenty of suspense. The writing style was perfect!
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for a honest review.
Wow. I started this book not expecting to love it, honestly. The first two chapters just didn’t pull me in like I wanted. But, I read on. Let me tell you that I could NOT put this damn book down after chapter 5. It quite literally had me on the edge of my seat. And the PLOT TWIST?! Man, I did not see that coming even slightly. My only complaint about this book is that it ended. I wanted to continue to live in this book for as long as possible. Definitely worth the read!
4.5 stars!
Wow! This was such a good thriller lots of twists and turns, most completely unexpected and clever. I finished within a day, a real page turner and ticks all the boxes on what I look for in a psychological thriller.
I’ve not read anything from Victoria Jenkins before, I love discovering new authors. If you love Lucy Foley and Alice Feeney, then you must read Victoria Jenkins.
Not quite five stars for me, as the jumps in POV were sometimes too confusing. I also would’ve liked to have had more backstory on the marriage and see Jake and Natalie’s relationship, rather than being told from Natalie’s POV how their relationship was unfolding.
Thank you to @netgalley and @bookouture for the ARC
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC in return for an honest review. I give this book 3.5 stars. It really pulled me in and made me want to keep reading. It had several twists (most of which I didn’t see coming, so I really liked that aspect). The big twist was a doozy. It was not even on my radar. I didn’t care for most of the characters in this book, but they did intrigue me enough to keep reading.
This is the first time I am reading a book written by Victoria Jenkins and I am pleasantly surprised by her story telling technique. It is smart, it is brilliant, it is gripping. What's more, you can never see the twist coming. She keeps you busy with so many details, that you are taken aback when the truth unfolds because that was not what you were expecting.
A fast paced, page turner this is a book for a weekend or a lazy day. You can breeze through it because the writing is simple and easy to follow. Also, the story is so interesting that you would not want to put it down till you get to the end of the book.
Happily Married is a great domestic thriller that will keep you turning the pages. Very well written, the clever plot unfolds beautifully with a fantastically well-done twist. A great read, highly recommend it.
Thank you NetGalley, Victoria Jenkins, and Bookouture for allowing me to read an advanced copy of Happily Married.
I wanted to like this book. It was an interesting plot, but it felt too drawn out. The chapters alternated between third person and then first person narrative through the mind of the antagonist. I felt Natalie, the wife, was weak. This one just wasn't for me.
I just read this in a day, I couldn’t put it down and I did not see that twist coming!
This is one of my favourite books for 2023!
Great writing and brilliant style, fantastically written!
Clever psychological thriller and one I would recommend!
EVERYONE NEEDS TO READ THIS BOOK!!!! I can't describe how good this book is, I was totally engrossed. There are a few shocking twists (omg what brilliant twists they are) that I didn't see coming. Fantastic writing, amazing, amazing, amazing.
What I Loved
The big twist. What we've been led to believe about the characters is turned upside down!
Dramatic finale
Unexpected feel good Girl Power

Five stars for Happily Married, and kudos to Victoria Jenkins!
This was a short read that got me immediately hooked. Just when you think you had it all figured out, BAM, you get hit in the face with a wild twist! It’s been awhile since a book has had me on edge like this one did.
This novel is about a couple, Natalie and Jake, who own and run a dairy farm. The farm is struggling so they decide to rent out a room to a lodger to help with finances. Unfortunately for Natalie, her life seems to spiral out of control shortly after her new lodger arrives.
I’ve never read anything by Victoria Jenkins before but this gripping, suspenseful novel definitely sold me as a fan!
Thank you to NetGalley, and Bookouture for the advanced readers copy!
