This nicely formatted set of four board books from Thomas Nelson Publishers offers colorful bedtime read-alouds for babies and toddlers. Each volume follows the pattern of saying “night night” in rhymes to each of the characters, and telling God “night night” at the end. The animals in the Farm and Zoo books will be familiar to very young children; the characters of the other volumes, Jungle and Hometown, may be less so.

This is a sweet collection of bedtime stories for very young children. The various books take children through saying good night to the animals of the farm, the animals of the jungle, the animals of the zoo, and the ones in Sleepytown.

The illustrations are adorable, particularly the ones for the kittens at the farm, and all the animals in the zoo and the jungle.

My favourite book was the one about the animals in the zoo because it featured some of my favourite animals and the illustrations were delicate and nicely- rendered - particularly the hippos and the elephants!

I read this box set of books with my daughter, and she really enjoyed them.

The illustrations are bright and super sweet with animals as the main characters in most of the books as well which she really liked. The books were all lovely reads. They were well written, and it each had a lovely flow to the story to make them easy to follow as well.

There was plenty to keep her engaged and it was one she could read to me which was a lovely touch.

It is 4 stars from me for this one – highly recommended!

Bedtime can be difficult for littles ones and a book about saying good night can be comfort, feelings of safety, and encouragement for any little sleeper. This little box of of books start with Night Night Farm. As the farm animals go to bed, a settling of anxious thoughts will be erased. With farm sounds and the ending of the day, it is time to say good night.

Night Night Zoo saying goodnight to all the different zoo animals.

Next is Night Night Sleepy town.

Sweet dreams to your new friends.

a special thank you to Thomas Nelson and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.

This cute set of four previously published bedtime board books are absolutely adorable. In three of the books the readers say “night, night” to the various animals in the locations: a farm, the zoo and the jungle. The rhymes and repetition invite participation and the little ones will soon be chanting along. The charming illustrations by Virginia Allyn portray all the animals getting ready for bed. I especially liked one factor in the farm and zoo books. Although we say goodnight to a different set of animals on each page, we also see a pair of mice nearby every time. Children will have fun finding the mice as they look on at the bigger animals getting ready for bed. These books seemed nostalgic as they had a similar simple quit tone to the much-loved “Good Night Moon”, a must read when my kids were young. Although the stories were much longer than that classic. The fourth book was a bit different. “Night Night, Sleepy Town” toured the town and said goodnight and thank you to the various professionals doing their jobs. Sleepy town was definitely reminiscent of Richard Scarry’s “Busytown”.

I found these books delightful, and any toddler or preschooler will love them. Parents will want to be aware that like most of the author’s books they do have a religious note. These books are not just a goodnight story, but a goodnight prayer. Each book says goodnight to all the animals but also goodnight to God. These books would be a great addition to any devout household (Christian or Jewish) with small children.

Four books that have been out before, aiming to lull us to beddy-byes. The first sets the pattern as we look all over the farm, seeing how the animals are settling themselves into sleep, or having their last-minute bath, and we say goodnight to them in their language, if you like, as we're polite little farm visitors. The second shows us more diverse animals, and no we don't speak hippo or lion, as we're at the zoo which is closing in for the night now the humans have all gone. The end comes in the jungle.

The third selection is different, as we see people – or certainly humanoid characters – and we thank them as well as wish them 'night night', so traffic crossing guards, teachers, even the town mayor and so on all get thanked and wished well. Which brings us on to the unavoidable fact that these are just as much prayers as they are lullabies, all ending in a message sent to god, and being something we join in with, not so much as to send us to sleep, but to send us somewhere adjacent to sleep with the right religious mindset. So these are definitely not for universal use or appeal, however damnably cute the visuals can often get. Three and a half stars, as an atheist – to a parent of someone they want in the church, a lot lot more.

My daughter loves these books. Night night Jungle is a favorite, so getting to add three other books that have a similar style was exciting for her. We love seeing the different animals— all of which god created. I would love to see more acknowledgement/text about God instead of just one or two lines at the beginning and end of the books but I’ll take what I can get.
