I started listening to this story thinking it was a suspense/thriller and mystery. It wasn't any of those things. Instead, I found the story to be about a bad car/truck accident where a woman lost a leg, a man lost his wife and a couple lost their teenager. The story was about how these three families healed from their losses and how they moved on. The chapters traded off between the three families and I was hoping they would all come together somehow. Great character development and great narration made this one a fast-paced good read.

A severe traffic accident suddenly changes the lives of many people.
Hannah has lost a leg and while having to get used to her new situation her husband comes along with some devastating news.
Joe wants to take his own life after his wife died in the accident. He just doesn't see any reasons to get along. And after his mother in law (whom i loved to hate) provides him with some unbeleavable news he is even more desperate.
The Joneses family lost their son in this accident. As their form of grieving they start fulfilling their son's whish.
This story shows how one split second can change so many lives but somehow i could figure out the ending quite early on in the book.
Nethertheless a book well worth reading.

The Accident by Gillian Jackson is a heart wrenching account of how an auto accident can completely change the lives of those involved. Winter weather causes a multiple car pileup and Hannah, much to her dismay, loses her leg in the accident. Joe, who loses his wife, doesn't want to go on living. Another couple loses their son and doesn't know how to move on. As their stories intertwine, will any of them heal physically or emotionally? I enjoyed listening to this audiobook and found the stories compelling. Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for an ARC of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

I had high hopes for The Accident by Gillian Jackson, but unfortunately, it fell short of my expectations. While the narration was strong, the characters lacked depth and failed to evoke any emotional investment from me as a reader. The detailed descriptions of their thoughts and emotions felt more like a chore than an integral part of the story, creating a sense of detachment rather than engagement. Although the book had potential, the lack of atmosphere and emotion left me feeling disconnected and uninterested in what happened next. Overall, I found it difficult to get through and would not recommend it.

One winter as Hannah is driving to work, she finds her car out of her control as it hits ice on the slipway to the motorway. Even though she is driving slowly her car careens into a lorry at the same time as a Range Rover loses control and heads straight for her. Other cars crash into the pile up as the atrocious weather produces nightmarish driving conditions. Two lives are lost: the 15 year old son of Alan and Cassie, and Joe's wife Alison in the range rover.

Hannah wakes up in hospital and has no memory at all of the accident. Joe is in shock that his loving wife Alison is dead. And Alan and Cassie struggle with loss of their only child.

The book alternates mainly between Hannah and Joe and their family situations. It explores the different ways people handle grief and its aftermath. The alternating stories leave the reader racing through the book to see what happens next. While the ending is predictable, it doesn't at all detract from the overall theme of how one event can produce ripple effects on numerous lives and change them forever.

In order to make this a solid one-star review. I had to compare and skim through the e-book of the first edition and the newest edition of this book. And the reason why 'I had to?' You can find it inside this review.

Without further ado, let's begin this review....

SUMMARY:
Hannah, she is a wife and a mother, and she has quite a good life until there's one car accident that causes her to lose her leg along with her memory. Joe, he is a devoted husband to his wife, but a car accident cost her life, and her death makes his world crumble. On the other side, Keiron Lang was just fifteen and an only child when he left behind his devastated parents. The Langs mourn their son, and they decide to embark on a project to honor him and send an invitation to the survivors. But when the survivors find their paths crossing again, there are consequences no one could predict.

AUDIOBOOK REVIEW🔊:
Narrated by: Jodie Harris 👩
Length of audio: 7h 43m
She was very good at narrating this book, though she got an accent and her speed was a little bit slow (I encourage you to listen to it at 1.25x speed; it was far better). But I enjoyed her voice, and she expressed such great emotion and made you feel it too—their frustration, sadness, hope, and also desperation. I can give her 3.5 stars for her performance.

MY FIRST IMPRESSION WITH THIS BOOK:
It started very well, she began her story almost right up to the accident. It really flowed nicely from 1%~30% and I'm ready to give it at least 3 or 4 stars. I liked everything until about 30% of the book. But then, after it hit 30%, the story started getting off track.

MY THOUGHTS:
📌 The premise was good, and I see a lot of positive ratings, so that was why I picked up this book.

📌 The author did such a great job writing the dialogue that I did love some of the dialogue. because it was encouraging, warming, and funny (I laughed when Hannah's best friend (Rachel) made a joke about Hannah's husband.

📌 I loved how the author can stir up your feelings and emotions. You will probably find yourself loathing some characters, wishing for them to die, and forever rooting in hell.

📌 Also, how the author made the scene, their thoughts, and their feelings sound realistic was excellent (truly). For example, the scene when Hannah lost her leg and she went to the hospital alone, having a breakdown, was good, or when Joe mourned his wife and held her funeral, and how he coped with those feelings was perfectly described and felt so realistic.

WHY IT DIDN'T WORK OUT FOR ME:
☠️ It was not a mystery, thriller, or suspense genre for me, why? Because I didn't find any of those feelings (thrill or suspense), but instead I got a lot of ANGST and DRAMA. I mean like family drama, for example: Hannah's husband's affair; Joe's brother had a money problem; and Joe had a wicked mother-in-law.

☠️ As I said in my first impression The story started getting off track, and what I mean here is that the story started to lose the main focus, which should be about the accident, Hannah's memory, the remaining survivors, and how they survived after this deadly accident. However the one I got none of those, but:

- How Hannah's husband (Mike) came clean about his affair and his mistress (Sarah) being pregnant, and he actually wanted to leave her a long time ago. Also talked about her husband's relationship with their children, his life with his mistress, after leaving his family, and the feelings and spark between Hannah's husband and his mistress. WOAH I HATE THIS!

- But hell yeah, it's not the end; this book also talked a lot about Joe's wife past (that didn't even relate to anything), about his brother (David) and his sister-in-law (Pam) wanting to kill him for his insurance money (it's not even related to the case, but it's damn long and very detailed), and about his mother-in-law being very annoying (that makes me want to choke her to death already).

Those stories really made me go mad; it was like an endless river. It kept going on and on. Trust me, you will not like it either, to hear those bunches of unnecessary stories.

☠️ "But when the survivors find their paths crossing again, there are consequences that no one could predict..." That's what's officially stated in the synopsis.

And I call it, BULLSHIT!!!!!!!,

They did not even cross paths until 90% of the book! I kept waiting and waiting, and it turned out not to be happening! And honestly, what kind of consequences are we talking about? Even when they crossed paths, it happened so fast! Like chop chop and done
(now I'm starting to lose my mind as I write this review).

☠️ Now finally.  Why? "I had to compare and skim through the e-book of the first edition and the newest edition of this book."
Because there are differences between those two editions, the author changed a lot of the characters' names.

And in the synopsis, I read, "Meanwhile, the Joneses mourn their son and decide to embark on a project to honor him: opening a center for rescued animals."
▪️ "The Joneses," which is one of the victims' family surnames (Jones), changed from Jones to Lang. So from Timothy Jones to Keiron Lang (he is one of three dead victims), his mother Casie Jones changed to Casie Lang, and his father Alan Jones changed to Alan Lang.
▪️ Hannah's neighbor and best friend, Rosie, changed to Rachel.
▪️ Hannah's daughter Mel changed to Kate

And I found it confusing because it didn't match the synopsis. So that's why I had to confirm it. Dear author or publisher, please do not forget to correct your synopsis! Because it's important, (True story: at first, I tried to type Jones' name, but nothing came up).

☠️ I don't need that kind of ending or epilogue. What I need is what 'I think' you promised me when I read the synopsis.

This took a different route than I was expecting going into this novel. I was a little confused as it said there were three deaths but I was only able to pick up on two of them. I found it to be a bit lackluster with the character development and if it had maybe another hundred pages we could have gotten that.

***** I received this audiobook as an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

This book was a compilation of a few stories of different families. The only reason they were tied together was be of a car accident. Each had their own drama they were dealing with outside of the impact of the accident.

As this was an audiobook I need to say I liked listening to the narration.

One sudden traffic accident changes the lives of so many in the blink of an eye. In the accident Hannah lost a leg, Joe lost his beloved wife and the Jones family mourn the loss of their teenage son with a disability. All three must realize their lives as they knew it to be
has changed and will never be the same. After the accident each character’s circumstance is explored and eventually come back together.

This was not as well written as it could have been. I understood what the author was trying to do because the premise was solid but it became convoluted quickly. The aftermath of the accident was nothing overly shocking and really lacked a wow factor. The book is listed as a thriller, and there was nothing thrilling about it or mysterious.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to read and review the book. All opinions are my own.

Thank you Netgalley and Gillian Jackson for this copy of The Accident. In spite of my fears of driving in winter storms I liked this book for the poignant story of the survivors of a multi car pileup during a winter storm. Terrible losses of lives and limbs are here, and yet the characters in time find life is worth living after a terrible catastrophe. I had the audiobook, and enjoyed the narrators as well.

This absolutely blew me away, I couldn't put it down. I did go into tis expecting more of a mystery/thriller but it is more of a literary fiction and family drama however that didn't stop me loving this book. I was taken through an emotional journey in this heart-warming and heartbreaking story, I loved following these three families and seeing how their dynamics and lives change after the accident. I thought every character was really unique and interesting and the way grief and mourning was written was really beautiful. I will definitely be checking out more by Gillian Jackson as she is an amazing author.

The main thing about this book- the cover makes the book seem like a thriller…but I don’t see mystery or thriller in this book. There’s death-even a murder but no twists and turns. In that, I was a bit disappointed but continued the book regardless.

I didn’t dislike this novel, but neither did I really like other parts. We start out with a multi-car collision that affects a few families. Hannah, a mom of teenage twins loses her leg in the accident. She takes it pretty well though her husband is a total jerk.. Joe loses his wife. Fortunately he has a fantastic dog (my favorite character) and good neighbors because his brother and his wife are awful. Another family loses their teenage son, the light of their lives. He had Down Syndrome and loved animals so they create good in the world by building a farm taking in animals. I think I would have taken a whole book on this family- I really wanted to know this boy.

The characters were decent, they did change throughout the book but at times the book became a bit wordy and felt redundant. But again the story was decent.

One moment can change a lifetime…

When a sudden blast of severe weather causes a traffic accident, the effects will ripple through the lives of many long after the scene is cleared . . .

While I wouldn't classify this as a thriller, I really enjoyed the book. The story takes us through the aftermath of three main families affected by a tragic accident due to a storm. There's a moment during Hannah's story where there's a hint of a twist. All in all, it's more of a drama and a story of recovery for those lwdt behind.

Okay, I want to start by saying the reason this book is a 3 star for me is that it was completely mis-genered. This is advertised as a mystery/thriller and it is simply not that! I would say this is more of a suspenseful drama. Because this was advertised as a thriller, I kept thinking every character was suspicious and got very confused.

That being said, this is an engrossing story about grief, the power of family, coping with loss, and persevering after tragedy strikes. Gillian Jackson caught my attention from the beginning of this book, and she also put me in the head of the characters she wrote about. This is definitely character driven, and as a reader you really feel for these characters. This book is heartwarming, emotional, and incredibly beautiful. Though the story follows three families, only two of the characters were truly developed throughout. I do wish the other family had been given more of a spotlight, I think it would have added a lot to the story.

I am rating this 3 stars because it was mis-genered which confused me for the majority of the book and because the ending felt a little too neat and tidy in a way that was a little unbelievable. However, I enjoyed the rest of the book and Jackson is a very talented author - the way she handles grief is sensitive but she still manages to delve into it.

The audio narration was very well done, though I wish there had been a couple of narrators with the different POVs we get. Even without more narrators, Jodie Harris did a fantastic job with the audio and I really enjoyed her voice.

This is a story of 3 families who are going about their lives when all of a sudden everything they have ever known changes in an instant during a severe weather storm that causes an 11 car pileup. Once all the debris is cleared we learn that Hannah a married mother of twin teenagers who cannot remember what happened at the accident scene and she is worried that she may be responsible for the horrible accident. Joe was a happily married man travelling with his wife, Alison who unfortunately lost her life and now Joe has to find the strength to go on without her. Then there is the Jones Family who lost their 16 yr old autistic son and instead of feeling sorry for themselves, they decide to open an animal rescue in their son's name with all donations going to Autism research. This was a quick little read and it shows you how everything can change just like that so cherish your family and your friends and live each day as if it were your last.....Enjoy!!

The after effects of a pure accident and the long term harrowing results create an environment of suspect with disturbing results. A great read with depth and understanding of the resulting catastrophic feelings

The Accident
By Gillian Jackson

When the weather turns bad, your life can change forever.
Such loss and hardship from one accident. This is a nice story about the after effects of an accident and how the survivors put their lives back together again. Hannah who lost her leg, Joe who lost his wife and the Joneses who lost their only son. This story makes you appreciate life and those you love.

I listened to The Accident on audio and enjoyed it very much. This is about an accident that happens on a stormy night which caused death, loss of limb, and more.
The aftermath of the three families involved is nothing short of heartbreaking. Written in multi perspective, it's a great short read that kept my interest the entire time. I needed to know what happened next and what the well developed characters would do. This is my first read of author Gillian Jackson, but it definitely will not be my last!

Thank you Netgalley for the audio version of this amazing book!

This book was pacey and entertaining. Although there wasn't much of a mystery, the plot and characters were engaging and kept me coming back for more. I wouldn't classify this novel as a thriller but I still really enjoyed the story.
