This one is very difficult for me to review because I’m not a fan of dramas and this book is definitely not the thriller it is categorized to be. By no stretch of the imagination is this book a thriller. This book is the story of a few families piecing their lives together and recovering from the injuries and/or deaths of loved ones after a car accident. It’s mainly from the point of view of Hannah and Joe but it also touches on the lives of the Jones family. Hannah loses her leg in the accident and her marriage is falling apart. Joe’s wife is killed in the accident and he is dealing with family drama with his mother in law and with his brother. The Jones lose their son and channel their energy into opening an animal rescue.
The book blurb actually says “But when the survivors find their paths crossing again, there are consequences that no one could predict . ..” I don’t even know what they are talking about. There were no consequences to those people interacting with one another. I’m extremely disappointed with this book because I found it dramatic and depressing and I would have never read that type of book.
I do give it 5 stars because it was well written and I’m sure anyone who is a fan of dramas would like it. But it really needs a category change so that thriller lovers aren’t disappointed

Engaging and well-narrated, but the cover is quite misleading. A recommended purchase for collections where women's fic is popular.

This book was definitely not what I was expecting! I went into this thinking it was going to be a gritty psychological thriller, but while there were small elements of that, it was really a story about how an accident can change lives - breaking some relationships and building others. If you're looking for a book with a little bit of everything - this one is it!

ARC audiobook provided in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed the narration of this book! Most of the time with so many main characters speaking in first person I like to hear different voices to differentiate, but I had no problems realizing who was speaking. I went into this book completely blind and honestly thought it was more of a thriller, but it was so much more than that and I wasn’t disappointed in the slightest. I highly recommend to anyone who likes redemption stories and dealing with the unexpected challenges that life brings.

Stories with multiple storylines and characters are hard for me to keep up with. I liked the audio but just felt like the stories didn’t all connect like I was hoping.

Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC audiobook. This book starts with a car accident which leaves 3 people dead and several others injured. The mystery weaved throughout the book is about whether one of the characters caused the accident. There are many characters introduced and several story lines. I was hoping the story would come together in the end, but I felt like this had too many undeveloped plot lines and not much of a resolution.

The way that one accident can change so many lives is amazing…this was a fantastic audio book!
Each person was impacted in a different way, whether they lost a limb or a loved one. They all struggled following the accident, but in the end, they all helped each other heal.
I really enjoyed the character development, and felt like I really knew the characters by the end of the book. And I love a happy ending :)

The Accident was nothing like I was expecting but I still really liked it. It's pushed as a thriller but it's really more of a suspenseful drama. I loved getting to know the characters throughout this story. This is the story of the aftermath of a life changing car accident told from two perspectives, both survivors of the crash. I liked how strong willed Hannah was despite her works crashing down around her. And Joe managed to show so much kindness toward everyone whether they deserved it or not. It was an enjoyable fast paced read good for a rainy day.

Gillian Jackson's latest, THE ACCIDENT, is an emotional, beautifully written, yet haunting tale of one car accident in which the ripple effects change lives forever, both good and bad. Readers see how their lives intersect in remarkable ways AFTER the accident and their healing process.
As fate would have it, time flashes before their eyes. Hannah is driving; it is icy and snowy. The car slides, and a pile of cars. A dreadful tragedy, and it was no one's fault.
However, grief, guilt, blame, revenge, remorse, and many emotions exist. Second-guessing their activities or what they could have done differently that day to eliminate this accident.
THREE DEATHS.
~Hannah Graham wakes up in the hospital and discovers she has no leg or memory of what happened.
~Joe Parker has minimum injuries, but his wife is DEAD.
~Alan and Cassie Jones receive news that their 15-year-old son, Timothy riding as a passenger, has been killed in the same accident. The back story of their son is heartbreaking yet beautiful.
There is an inquest that is stressful, and no charges are filed. What happens next is the aftermath of the accident.
Three families' lives are changed in an instant. These families try to put their lives back together. A new normal. However, some stay positive, and some do not.
Can they put the past behind them and allow the tragic event to change their lives for the better of those around them? However, some families fall apart. One husband leaves his wife for another woman, one mother-in-law is not so nice, and a brother is not supportive.
However, Hannah is a trooper even with the loss of her leg and an unsupportive through all of this, as well as Joe and the Jones family. They do not hold grudges or try and get revenge. But channel their grief and loss positively as the accident survivors come together.
In this gripping novel, you will see the good and the bad of human nature.
The two main protagonists are Hannah and Joe. Their cross paths, as does Cassie. It is amazing how their lives connect and offer a satisfying conclusion. It is hopeful, which ends on a positive note.
The author handles the loss and grief with sensitivity and compassion. We all deal with grief and loss in our separate ways. Some are destructive and revengeful, and some try to do something to honor their loved ones in productive ways —we see examples of both sides here.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story and hope it lands in the right reader hands, who will appreciate her writing and its critical takeaway message. My first book by the author, and I look forward to reading more.
This is not a THRILLER. You will be disappointed if you go into it thinking it is. However, the novel is more of a character study and an introspective of grief, loss, and life after tragedy. I would classify it as psychological fiction or family life fiction. The novel is well-done, and I look forward to reading more by this author. The storyline was both realistic and emotionally charged.
I listened to the audiobook, and the narrator, Jodie Harris, delivered an engaging performance and listening experience. I enjoy being introduced to new authors through audiobooks. The book reminded me of Jodi Picoult and Emma Robinson's books.

One day, the icy conditions of the roads cause an accident. Hannah wakes up in the hospital with no memory of what happened and a life-changing injury. Jo escapes the accident, but his wife doesn't. Alan and Cassie lose their son. But who is to blame?
I liked this, but was a little disappointed. This was presented as a thriller, which it isn't. The story was however very interesting, it was nice to see the evolution in the struggle of some of the characters, particularly Hannah with her injury. The epilogue was a bit repetitive and had the qualities of a rom-com epilogue (which this isn't either). It was definitely not action packed, but the writing was good, and it was a short and entertaining read. The narration was great.
I received an advance review copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Driving when the weather is poor is often a dangerous situation. When the storm huge proportions later entitled "The Beast From The East", occurs there are three families whose lives will be forever changed.
Hannah Graham was one of the people involved in a horrific accident which took the lives of three people. However, Hannah can't remember anything about the accident. Joe Parker lost his wife and soon learns to value life, although he nurses feelings of committing suicide. Allen and and Cassie Jones lost their son, a happening that is beyond tragic.
The stories of these three families, show many aspects of the aftereffects of trauma and how people must learn new ways to survive. In Hannah's case, can she go on with her life with her leg missing and her husband Mike showing signs of unhappiness in their marriage. Joe, must reconcile his life without his beloved wife, and the Jones' strive to make sense of losing their boy.
I did enjoy this story as it put forth the resiliency of people and the ability to take that beginning step forward from tragedy wit some heavy surprises!
Thank you to Gillian Jackson, who while I was expecting a different type of story delighted me with the one she wrote, Dreamscape Media Narrated by Jodie Harris with fine narration, and NetGalley for the ability to listen to this story.

Thank you to Netgalley and the author for the advanced copy of the audio for The Accident.
Snow and freezing rain make the perfect combination for disaster in this novel surrounding a car accident. People lost their lives, memories of the accident, and life as they know it after that day. Is someone to blame or was it an act of nature? This story has many moving parts and characters, but all are well developed and the story keeps you interested. The narration was pleasant as well. I would definitely recommend this novel to friends and fellow book lovers. I look forward to reading more of this author in the future.

The Accident by Gillian Jackson
Narrator Jodie Harris
The focus of this story is what ensues after a multi-car accident due to icy conditions and how it affected three families. I have not read this author before but after this book, I checked out another audiobook by her. I enjoyed the telling of the lives of Hannah and Joe especially. There were some other important characters but they were the main ones. It’s not a thriller or a mystery although there are some harrowing bits and some sad parts to the story. The ending ties it all up pretty happily for most everyone. It was a quick enjoyable listen.
The narrator was new to me but she was excellent doing male and female voices as well as adults and teens. Absolutely spot on. Will look for her work again also.

Hannah Graham is driving in some bad winter conditions. They icy conditions make rush hour even more dangerous. One car slides, and as we've all seen - a pile up occurs.
Hannah awakens in the hospital. One leg has been amputated. Joe Parker has minimum injuries, but his wife is dead. Alan and Cassie receive news that their teenage son was also killed in the accident.
This story shows us the families after this accident which changed all of their lives foever. It is sad.
It is heartbreaking. Can they put this behind them and move on with their lives?
This book was labeled a thriller. I would say it is more suspense, and definitely character drive. It was an engaging book. The audio was well done.
Many thanks to Dreamscape Media and Netgalley for an ALC in exchange for my honest review.

Don't start out listening to this one while driving in a storm.
Featuring ~ multiple 3rd person POV, secrets, infidelity
Hannah has lost her leg and Joe has lost his wife, Alison, in the accident.
Alan & Cassie lost their teenage son, Kerrin. I'm a super big animal lover, so I love what they did to honor his memory by creating Kerrin's Farm. (I tried to find the correct spelling in other reviews, but everyone refers to him as Timothy, so I'm guessing there was a name change since the book was published back in 2020? I don't think my ears can be confusing Timothy for Kerrin.)
About halfway through we get additional narrators:
Mike ~ Hannah's husband. Ugh with him!
David ~ Joe's brother. Ugh with him, too! I hated this whole story line and I'm not sure what it added to the overall story. Ugh with David's wife, Pam, too.
Speaking of additional characters, Phil & Diane ~ Joe's neighbors, while they were very helpful to Joe, did I really miss their purpose, or was it just so Joe had help?
Overall, I liked this one and how certain people came together in the end. I wouldn't categorize it as a thriller and there really isn't a mystery to the readers. The mystery lies within Hannah's brain since she can't recall the accident.
Narration:
Jodie Harris ~ 7 hours 43 minutes ~ mostly a fine job, but she didn't even try to distinguish her voice for multiple characters.

The Accident - Gillian Jackson
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an eARC of this novel.
Let me begin by stating how much I DESPISE "love stories", however this isn't a sappy, saccharine sweet novel, but rather this is a story about how an accident's tendrils reach out to bring those who are battered but not broken together as they create new connections.
Yes, this is a love story, and at times a mystery, but above all, an excellent and entertaining read!
Until next time...

Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the opportunity to listen to this audiobook.
"Thriller" not so much. Its still a good story with a little mystery as to where it is going.
I like the characters. I like the story's. I liked the characters. I will definitely look for more books from this author. Ending tied a lot up with a little "how sweet".
3.5 voted down...

On a normal workday Hannah was rushing off to get to her job and that’s what Joe was doing as well but Joe had to first bring his wife to her moms house in the blink of an eye they went from traveling down the road to needing medical assistance Joe could see his wife Allison was not doing well if she was doing anything at all but it would be hours before he found out that his wife wasn’t just injured she was deceased Hannah however mangled her leg and it would lead to an amputation that would devastate her but she gathers up all the strength she has and resigned herself to get back to the life she knew The real life changing event for Hannah would happen months later when her husband Mike tells her he’s leaving her for his girlfriend Sarah who is pregnant when she tells him he’ll have to be the one to tell theit Son and daughter but Mike is it prepared for the true emotional toll this is going to hell. Joe is getting used to live without his beloved Allison but when he goes to see her mom out of love and respect for his wife true to form his mother-in-law tells him devastating news that this will not be the biggest event in Joe’s life he has more immediate family members that have plans to alter life as he knows it or just life in general. win Joe’s brother David and his wife Pam find out how close they came to getting everything Joe and his wife would’ve left behind they come up with plans to reunite Joe with his beloved Allison. This book was so good from the very first chapter to the last I did not want to stop listening to this book I couldn’t wait to see what was going to happen next because this book is a book full of life events and they just keep coming this was a great idea for a book and although there were parts that could’ve been better I still found this book really good! I was a little iffy about it because I did not know the author but I would definitely read more from her in the future I found the life situation we’re close to realistic I love that we got to see Mike’s POV after he abandon his family this book has so many pluses that despite the very few negatives it’s still a book I would definitely recommend! I thought the narrator did a stellar job she was great at character distinction and had a great grasp on the overall tone of each character and situation I just think a narrator can make or break an audiobook in this narrator made the this grade book that much better. I received this book from NetGalley and the publisher but I am leaving this review voluntarily please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.

This was so good. I cried at the end. I was just standing in my dining room crying. This book is just a story, or stories, of the ways life can change in a moment. It wasn't happy or sad. It was just real and honest.
I also loved the narration.

One accident, multiple families are struggling to find light within their new lives. I wouldn’t say this book was bad or good. I struggled to stay focused in the middle. I felt sympathetic as each family was trying to grieve their new lives and had regrets and wished the accident never happened.
