This was an excellent book. I read it in one sitting, I could not put it down! From the very beginning I knew something was up with the teenager! I would definitely recommend this book.
I enjoyed this one on the whole. However I wouldn't call it a thriller as such. There are some secrets and twists, but it's more of a saga to my mind. That said it was well written and engaging enough to keep me interesting. I will read more from this author. I really liked the cover art as well.
This was an enjoyable and quick read.
The horror of losing a child and the impact that it could have on the family members left behind could certainly lead a person to the desperate actions of the characters in The Other Mother.
Great twists as the book is told from multiple character perspectives, and it was difficult to unpick the truth from the lies.
Erica, Lissy, and Beverley are connected by their dark past - a child was murdered and one of them was to blame.
This book was just not it for me. I found it super drawn out and quite boring at times. Many portions of the book were littered with irrelevant and boring details. The main reason I gave this book 2 stars instead of 1 is because the ending was not too bad. However, there were soooo many times where I wanted to call it quits on this one.
I also do not think that this book should be classified as a psychological thriller. This is just a regular fiction novel. No suspense, shock, or twists. If you are looking for a thriller, then this is not the novel for you.
Thank you Boldwood Books and NetGalley for the copy in exchange for an. honest review.
Thankyou to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for allowing me to read to this ARC.
I really enjoyed this title.
This title was a fast paced page turner which I would highly recommend to anyone.
This book literally had twists and turns that you don’t see coming that leave you questioning everyone.
This book was so good that it was hard to put down.
5/5
Creepy and twisted dark. I read this disturbing story in a day. I was riveted and I was blown away by the end.
This story started a little slow but got interesting about 50% in. I would definately read another book by this author.
I liked this book however wasn't for me nothing to do with the writing or author may try again later on
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC of this book. This was a great read!! Full of twists and turns and not predictable at all. I loved it!! Highly recommend
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an advance copy of The Other Mother by J A Baker in exchange for my honest review and opinion. I really enjoyed all the twists and turns that continued to happen throughout the entire book. This really takes you on a wild ride up until the very last page. I highly recommend.
I liked this book, and I loved the cover. It was hard to keep track of at times. I did find it to be a bit predictable so this affected my rating.
Another great read from this author who never fails to capture my interest. Hard hitting and tense this book deliverany ways. I enjoyed this one My thanks to netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
As JA Baker builds the layers of each of these women, history begins to seep through the cracks. Three adults who share a secret from their childhood that must be told. But who owns the secret and who owns the right to tell? Each woman will focus on the future but know that it will not be long before one of them has to pay for the past. Baker has skillfully taken readers on a journey, building tension and almost, almost making us feel sorry for them all. A really great thriller.
Once again she smashed it with this one, they are so addictive the authors books and I can’t get enough of them, I’d read one every day 😂 every one I’d different but they all drag you in n hold you captive until the end 5 stars all day long
The Other Mother was a decent read. I was often confused; with the story lining up not naming anyone then naming them and then trying to go back to place who was whom. The novel starts with a young woman babysitting a toddler that ends up passing away, she getting arrested and serving time for the murder. And the siblings of the dead child are now enacting their revenge but there was more to the story no one knew. Lissy and her daughter Rosie we learned the most about. Living an idyllic life until Rosie has troubles in school which opens up more of the troubles of the past.
Disclaimer; netgalley gave me this and in exchange I'm leaving an honest review.
I'm not sure what I was hoping for with this book. The big reveal at the end was disappointing and I had a hard time connecting with the characters. I appreciated the pacing and I liked the names of some of the characters, but it took a while for me to be interested in what was happening. I also liked the concept. I don't think this book is bad or I wouldn't give it 3 stars, but it leaves a lot to be desired.
This was a bit of a struggle to read. It starts off with 5 POV, which is really just 3 POV with younger versions of 2 POV anonymously labeled. There didn’t seem to be any point in having those anonymous POV at the beginning and just made things more confusing. It was a slow burner and felt like some of it could have been edited out. I did enjoy the twist at the end though.
Three women, two of which lost younger siblings. The other accused and convicted of killing them. She’s don’t her time and is trying to move on with her life. She starts getting threatening messages and dead animals show up on her property. A plot for revenge, and secrets untold.
3.5 stars that I'm rounding up to 4 because I just read another JA Baker book prior to this one, and I kinda like her style. Child A is left alone by Child B to babysit Child B's baby brother (while she should have been doing it herself) and baby brother ends up dead. Flash forward to the adult years and you're given the story of two women, and it's pretty easy to determine who is who, but there is a third woman in the mix and the story begins to unfold. Many years later and lives are still in tatters and no one has been able to move on (although who could feasibly do so??) It all comes to a head with a somewhat twisty reveal. I think casual thriller readers who aren't expecting any new earth shattering plot devices will be very pleased.
This books starts out with really annoying characters, so you can't help but wonder what atrocities will happen to them.
This was a really addictive thriller that I struggled to put down. It felt like every chapter ended on a cliff hanger and I had to continue to know what happened next!
This follows three perspectives of three different women who are all connected by a tragedy that happened when they were teenagers. This is full of secrets, plots for revenge, and lots of twists. It’ll definitely keep you on the edge of your seat!
This was my first book by this author and I thoroughly enjoyed it and can’t wait to read more by them.
Thank you so much to Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
