Historical romance/drama featuring Grace who is a field nurse and Duncan who is an injured soldier. A good read.

The Spinster and Mr. Scott is a sweet, enjoyable read! I think this is the first nursing from war injuries-trope book that I have read-- or at least good enough for me to remember reading!
Grace is a nurse, a daughter of an earl who doesn't think she'll get married. Duncan is a soldier, and is injured at Waterloo. The attraction is instant, and the book follows the two navigate through a myriad of troubles, the biggest one being their class status-- can the two overcome her being a lady and Duncan's non-aristocratic roots?
Ooh, the chemistry is awesome. I love, love, love these two together! It was a fast read, and I was entertained from start to finish. Dialogue is great and flows well!
I have really been enjoying Jennifer Haymore books, thank you to NetGalley for introducing me to them through ARCs! I was given this book for my honest opinion, and I'm excited to seek more of the author's books out from the few that I've read!

The Spinster and Mr. Scott. Oh Boy. I think that you will like this story. I found myself lost and the book and I had no intentions of looking back. That’s how great this story was.
The story was engaging. It was very logical and it made sense for a background story to the main characters missions and goals. Duncan and Grace are your main characters. They turn of the heat in so many ways that I don’t know if my mind recovered from it. This story starts at the famous battle that no one wants to remember. Waterloo. Instantly I was intrigued. Their story is one were it gives a small glimpse of war Heroes and the people who did not return from the war. I like that the writer brought forward Rob’s character who fights the disconnecting mental challenges of the post war. Duncan has his wounds too, but it’s a special lass that distracts him. The book focuses around the explorations of romance between Duncan and Grace.
I believe that you will love their story. The interesting plot involves Duncan and other soldiers to be called to duty by the crown. This duty places them in the middle of some high stakes. The excitement comes from the challenges the men face as they race across the country as time runs out. My favorite character is Duncan and if you read the story, you will know why I favor him more.
What’s that saying? Something about how a Scott know’s how to pleasure his woman better than a … Well you get what I’m trying to convey. Don’t worry I'm getting to your burning question. Yes, this book has steam that hits the top of the richter scale. I was happy to read that Grace’s character is a strong woman who is very capable of taking care of herself and her home.
I mean who wouldn’t have respect for a woman who stood in the middle of Waterloo post war?! Grace had her issues too that are mostly family issues. People this is a woman who did not back down. You are going to like her. Duncan had Grace rolling in the sheets so much that there’s no way that the Major didn’t know what was going on.
Grace was thinking that she never felt more alive. Duncan you are the man who I will conjure up every time I read a romance novel. When the writer describes this man I believe the writer actually had a model in front of her while she took notes for the description of Duncan. God that would have been great for me. Why didn’t I take up art?
Man I missed out on so much. This is a very entertaining story that I know you will enjoy reading. The writing is great. The story is a pleaser and the characters are fantastic. I give this story two snaps and a, Tibbets, a word of advice.
Never mess with a Highlander’s woman. The offense is bloody punishable. Until next time my fellow readers. Read on! I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

This was revamp of the original book Highland Heat by Jennifer Haymore. This is Grace and Duncan's love story. This was a beautiful story set back during a time of war. Duncan was an injured soldier and Grace was a field nurse. They got to know each others strengths and weaknesses and slowly grew to appreciate and love one another.

I loved Grace and Duncan’s love story.

Grace is the oldest daughter of the Earl or Norsey. She believes she will never marry and will be a spinster for the rest of her life. That is until she meets Duncan after the battle of Waterloo on the battlefield. Duncan and Grace can not get enough of each other even though they come from different classes.

This story shows how love over comes all and how these two can not be separated no matter what.

Injured at Waterloo, commoner Duncan is nursed by earl's daughter Grace. They fall in love, but recognize that the social differences between them make marriage impossible. When danger threatens, can Duncan prove he's the man to keep her safe?

This book has engaging characters and a tense plot. It's gorier and more violent than I expected. To me, the tone feels more like a Highlander novel than a Regency romance. It should appeal to fans of Kerrigan Byrne.

Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.

June 1815, The Waterloo Battlefield

The kind hearted spinster, Lady Grace Carrington, is the heroine of the story and meets Army Sergeant Duncan Mackenzie on the last day of the Napoleon war at Waterloo where Bonaparte is finally defeated but probably the bloodiest battle! As she decides to see if she can be aid in a field of corpses she trips over Duncan landing directly in his lap! Duncan the father of a sheep farmer in Scotland and Grace the daughter of a wealthy English Earl. Even what priority demands she ignored and gave her given name and took Duncan under her care. As he had been hurt and unconscious at first Grace was only a dream, a dream he didn't want to wake up from!

As the story goes on Duncan and Grace keep getting thrown into situations where they are together and alone. You see as the attraction grows and Grace who has accepted a lifetime of spinsterhood just wants to at least feel love once in her life though she knows it will be short lived and has to be.a secrets due to her family and her own reputation. Not that she cares much about the ton but didn't want to hurt her family. So what shall she do stay a virgin forever or take caution to the wind and go for it?

Optimist Duncan knows he has nothing to offer Grace but can't seem to resist her but he is an honorable man. He sees the class difference and knows they can't have a future as much as he wishes it were different. He has the attitude of living each day to the fullest and worrying about tomorrow later. Well that is until his status has changed but still not good enough for an Earl daughter. He has no choice but to break her heart.

Also a side story of Grace’s sister Claire is estranged from her husband who is having marital problems due a past tragedy. Her husband Robert is also Captain to Duncan and brother-in-law to Duncan. He is also the reason for Duncan's eventual status claim.

This was fast paced about the problem and prejudices of class difference are still here today in my opinion. I am sure Prince William didn't have an easy time marrying Kate. Maybe not a ton issue today but you still have to fight paparazzi and other villains. Some other aristocrats like the Duke of Windsor, gave up his title for the woman he loved, as he did for the divorced Mrs. Simpson! Although the world finds this very romantic, that these romantic aristocratic men defied all in the name of love, as for the women I imagine this was not easy marrying men from such royalty status.

I really enjoyed this book and look forward to rereading the rest of this series. Even though it is a re-issue that I have read before. There is new content and it has been like seven or eight years since I originally read this Highland Knight series. Readers will be able to read this in series order or as a stand alone book. I always prefer to read in book order myself, which I highly recommend. It was a delightful read! This series is a reissue from 2015 and 2016.

This follows Duncan Scott who is injured during a battle at Waterloo. He is found by Lady Grace. There is an instant attraction between the two but Duncan is not a suitable match for Lady Grace.

I loved this one. The romance is forbidden and the characters have to be careful not to be caught. I enjoyed the romance between the two characters and the forbidden element of their romance lead to some good spicy scenes. There were some interesting side characters who I believe are featured in another book which I will be checking out. Overall I had a great time reading this and I didn’t want to put it down. I am looking forward to reading more from this author in the future.

The Scott and the Lady.

Duncan Scott is both Scottish and a sargeant in the army. Lady Grace, the daughter of an English earl meets him when he survives the battle at Waterloo. Grace is there as a companion to her married sister (another Scot and Duncan's superior).

Plenty of steamy times and drama. Like Grace and Duncan are clearly doing it and there is the barest pretense of semi-propriety. Grace and Duncan have plenty of chemistry and he is very protective of her, but will society accept their match?
Recommend.

When Lady Grace stumpbles upon wounded Duncan Scott on the battlefield of Waterloo, there's an instant spark between the two of them. The only problem: they're too far apart in social classes. A union between the two would never be tolerated.
Oof. Caution, potential spoilers.
I barely know what to say about this book because I feel like I expected the wrong thing ... this is the first I've ever read by this author and whilst I'm partial to regency romances and do not mind the occaisional fun sex scene, I do mind the "she's such an innocent virgin and he's been with so many women"-trope in any of them, which happened in this book, and I mind when there's more sex than plot. I started skipping sex scenes because they started to bore me. I think this could have been such a fun romance read had it had the space for it, especially considering the complications regarding social class and political intruige - with barely 200 pages the story felt very rushed to me, especially considering how close the protagonists got so very fast and how much was going on. I wish it had been longer, and I wish it had been more plot-focused.

Sergeant Duncan Scott, “The Unbreakable Scott,” has been injured at last on the battlefield at Waterloo but when he awakes to the sight of Lady Grace Carrington’s bonny face, he’s certain his stab wound was the best thing that ever happened to him. Grace thinks she’s pulled an injured soldier to safety, but in fact she’s put them both in grave danger. Because when his brilliant blue eyes meet hers, the passionate Scot kisses her in a way that leaves her breathless and trembling. Grace sets Duncan’s soul aflame. But pursuing his guardian angel means facing the wrath of London society, not to mention his superiors in the British Army.
This book was previously published under the title Highland Heat but has new content. An absolutely delightful read I loved both Duncan, the sheep farmer & Grace, the obedient Earl’s daughter, they fell hard & fast for each other & their chemistry sizzled but I wondered how on earth they'd find their HEA. There was intrigue, spies, class differences, danger & edge of the seat moments so it ticked all the boxes for me & I just devoured it. I’m looking forward to more in the series
My review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

4.5 stars

I first read this book back in 2017 when it was titled “Highland Heat”, the first book in the Highland Knight series. I loved the book then and I still love it now, because it was so much more than I was expecting and so emotionally charged.

They meet when Lady Grace Carrington searches the Waterloo battlefield looking for any survivors, it is there that she finds Sergeant Duncan Scott, a Scottish sheep farmer from the highlands. From that moment, I felt the incredible connection between Grace and Duncan. And that connection never waned even when it seemed impossible for these two to be together.

The story basically starts at the same time prequel novella “A Highlander's Heart”, (now titled "To Love A Scot") and continues where that one ended, in fact, we get to see more of Claire and Robert's happily ever after (yay!). We also get to learn a little bit more about the Highland Knights and their mission to keep England safe.

This book is well written and flows nicely. The story is filled with intrigue, forbidden love, spies, danger, steamy love scenes, class differences, wonderful secondary characters, soulmate-type love, some nail-biting moments, and finally, their HEA complete with an epilogue that sets up the next book. It was just about perfect! I happily recommend this book, it is a re-release, but the author has edited and enhanced the story, and it is still not necessary to read the prequel, however, once you've read this book, I can almost guarantee you are definitely going to want to read that as well!

Historical romance. Regency-era England. Book 1 of the Highland Knights series. This book is an updated edition of Highland Heat (2015). This story takes place at the same timeframe as the prequel. Lady Grace, daughter of an earl and a spinster, has escorted her sister Claire to the battlefield to search for Claire’s husband. While there, Grace has made herself useful by caring for the wounded soldiers. She meets Duncan, one of her brother-in-law’s sergeants and forms a connection with him. Despite the social class differences between them, they converse easily and quickly fall in love. This was a relatively quick story to read with things progressing pretty predictably until we head into treacherous territory with a disapproving father and an insurgent group the men are investigating.

The Spinster and Mr. Scott is a short and sweet, low level angst love story between Grace and Duncan. They meet on a battlefield and basically fall in love at first sight. There is some mention of their social differences but this doesn't stop them from letting their love blossom.

An enjoyable quick read.

The end of the war brought them together, where they forged a bond that only got stronger as time went by. A lovely tale of a couple who had social biases to deal with. Only when they each can sort out what is important in life can they head towards their HEA. That is, after they had to deal with insurgents and a father’s disapproval.

I received an ARC from Netgalley and leaving my review voluntarily.

The tale of a warrior and his guardian angel!

Lady Grace Carrington never expected to lose her heart to the wounded Scottish soldier she rescued on the battlefield at Waterloo. She was drawn to him instantly. Their conversation, his quiet charm and that kiss that had left her breathless.
But he wasn’t meant for her. He a commoner, an army sergeant set to march on Paris. She the dutiful daughter of the Earl of Norsey.

Sergeant Duncan Scott never expected to fall in love with the brave young woman who found him amid that muddy sea of death. She had cared for him and had stayed by his side. They had opened up to one another and their souls connected that very first day.
But they could never be. She a Lady, an English rose. He the son of a sheep farmer. What else could he give her but a kiss she would never forget?

Add an unexpected journey home, the Highland Knights, an impromptu and rather private stay at the Norsey country estate, a secret mission, an elopement and a kidnapping, and you have an exhilarating story full of forbidden romance, intrigue and danger.

📚 The writing was excellent, the plot enthralling and the romance delicious and steamy. I found the book hard to put down and I'm looking forward to reading more of this series.
📚 Forbidden love, soulmates, warrior/lady, class difference, road trip, one bed, steamy, open door
