I am new to romantasy, so I was excited to read about some sexy dark kinky fae. This book was a lot of fun to read! I really enjoyed it! The Rebel King is the second book in the Deviant Kings series. Although Rebel King is a standalone, I do think it is better to read The Dark King first.

After Caiden stepped down to protect his mate in The Dark King, Tiernan is the next in line to rule the Night Court. Tiernan wasn’t prepared to rule at all. He is unpredictable, and also has a now forbidden situationship with Fiona, a maid in his house. On top of it, there have been some murders and the kingdom is at risk.

Fiona was my favorite! She goes through so much in this book. Her entire world is continuously rocked and she handled everything with such bravery and grace. I loved how fearless she was. I loved how fast paced the plot of this story was. It kept me on the edge of my seat to figure out what would happen next. The spice was also fantastic. There is a whipping scene that will live in my head for a long time!

I’m so excited to see what will happen next in the The Vicious King!

I finished THE DARK KING and dove right into this book, and OMG, this one was simply delicious. Tiernan and Fiona are magnificent together; their forbidden romance is spicy and action-packed. If you think you know their story, trust me, you don't.

We start out with the spare becoming King since his brother stepped down. One would think that The Rebel Verran Brother wouldn't be up to the task but they would be wrong. There are plenty of times where he doubts himself but he makes one heck of a King.

Now that Tiernan is King, Fiona's trysts with him go from fun to forbidden because how can a King be with a lowly housemaid? As if that isn't bad enough, Fiona learns some truths about her life in the most unusual ways, and while things are rocky for a bit, things work out in the end.

The chemistry between Tiernan and Fiona was HOT HOT HOT, I loved everything about their story and I cannot wait until the baby of them all gets his story because that one is sure to be even more...in every sense of the word.

I recommend this book to readers who enjoy STEAMY Paranormal Romances, Age Gap Romances, Forbidden Romances, Royalty Romances, Fae Romances, BDSM Paranormal Romances, or Billionaire Romances.

Happy Reading!!!

There's potential in this story but I found the characters a bit too monodimensional and the story fell flat
Not my cup of tea
Many thanks to the publisher for this ARC, all opinions are mine

I loved this book just as much as the first book in the series. Fiona and Tiernan have amazing chemistry. They have quite a few steamy scenes and one scene in particular was pretty great. The threat of Edevane is still present and there is plenty of action as they try to figure out who is attacking their fellow fae.

Tiernan Verran is now facing a role he never expected to take on. Known as the Rebel Prince, he's been happy to have no responsibilities and enjoyed the freedom to pursue things he finds pleasurable.

His new position means he'll no longer be able to indulge in his relationship with Fiona. Their positions in the fae caste system mean their relationship would be forbidden.

Something is brewing in Vegas and fae are turning up dead. When Fiona and her mother are attacked, Tiernan is caught between what is expected of him and what he wants to do.

Thank you so much to the author, Entangled Publishing and NetGalley for this ARC to review.

Tiernan, the once rebel prince, is about to become King. With his pride in check he is ready to take the crown. Giving up his lifestyle for the throne and familial duties he accepted, giving up the opportunity for love is something he isn’t can’t accept. He desperately wants to pursue a relationship with his house cleaner Fiona. This forbidden romance is a steamy continuation of the Deviant Kings series.

The Night Court otherwise known as the Dark Fae have built Las Vegas up as their home. They have enjoyed the profits and indulgences that Las Vegas has created. That is until the murders start. For the first time, the Dark Fae are being murdered. It is shocking because how to kill a fae is not common knowledge. With an investigation open Tiernan must get to the bottom by employing new alliances with other supernatural creatures.

I loved the Deviant Kings so being able to dive back into the world was exciting. The main part of this story was the mystery, which intertwined itself with self discoveries of the main characters. Rebel King was less romantic and more mystery with explicit sexual elements. I wanted a bit more encompassing love story and less dark side of the Fae.

The book had some modern day references that made me laugh. I do recommend this book especially if you like forbidden romances, explicit dark romance and Romantasy.

Thank you to Entangled Publishing and NetGalley for the Advanced Reading Copy. My review is my honest opinion.

Maxwell does it again. I loved both of these books so much and already can’t wait for more. They’re fun and hard to put down.

When I tell you I cried, I totally did. Tiernan and Fiona got me right in the feels. 😭 ⁣

Tiernan is the second brother, but since the older brother abdicates the throne, Tiernan is next in line. In the first book, we know that Tiernan and Fiona were sleeping with each other. The thing is Fiona is the help. Tiernan can be with anyone when he's the prince, but now that he's going to be king, he needs a royal wife. 😭 ⁣

𝐋𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤! I do have to say the beginning was a bit slow for me, but besides that, when the story picked up, I couldn't put it down!! 𝐓𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐦𝐲 𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐭. I needed to know what was going to happen! Lol ⁣

𝐈𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐤 𝐟𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐬𝐲 𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞, 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮. I highly recommend this series. I am in 𝐍𝐄𝐄𝐃 of book 3. Lol ⁣

It's best to read the books in order.

Thank you Entangled Publishing for the #gifted eARC of THE REBEL KING!

I absolutely loved THE DARK KING so was so thrilled to continue the series with THE REBEL KING. THE REBEL KING is Tiernan Verran and Fiona’s love story. And while it feels impossible that they could ever be together because of the classist structure of the Dark Fae court, you can’t help but root for them.

The plot takes a turn that I wasn’t anticipating and I absolutely loved the undercover angle Fiona ends up playing and the introduction of new characters, like the vampire Dmitri and human familiar Robert.

Fiona and Tiernan’s chemistry is so hot and I love them together. I also loved seeing Fiona and Bryn’s friendship blossom. There’s always something so sweet about a well-written female friendship. I can’t wait to see how this trilogy wraps up with THE VICIOUS KING later this year!

THE REBEL KING came out yesterday, July 25!

Such a great book! I love the details, and the smut is to die for! One of my fave reads of 2023 hands down.

The Rebel King by Gina L. Maxwell is the second book in the Deviant Kings series.
This is Tiernans story. If you have not read the first book..... STOP NOW. These have to be read in order, and my review has spoilers of the first book.

Tiernan Verran is the perfect Rebel King and the classic embodiment of the middle child. He's not been faced with true responsibility until his brother abdicated the throne to save his mates life. Now they are dealing with a new crisis of forces killing fae. Finding those responsible is the top priority. Hang on to your seats. This is going to be a bumpy ride with allies from unexpected places and some major chess moves.

Fiona is more than what she appears, and damn you're just rooting for her to succeed. What she thought was just a no strings affair with the party Prince had become so much more now that he's the Crown Prince. She wants what she can't have. When fate makes her the only choice to help with the crisis, her loyalty is firm. And when Tiernan takes his self-imposed shackles off, they finally connect on another level.

Now, to uncover the plot that is still shimmering behind the scenes to be revealed in the final installment. Let's see what happens at the checkmate.

The Rebel King by Gina L Maxwell
Deviant King series, book 2. Fantasy romance. Can be read as a stand-alone but better as part of the series. Characters overlap but are secondary. Alternating chapter by Tiernan and Fiona.
Tiernan is soon to be King of the Dark Fae since his brother abdicated to keep his wife safe. Tiernan didn’t expect to ever be King and he’s been more of a Rebel his whole life. But he will do his duty. After this one last task.
Fiona has had an intimate relationship with Tiernan recently but they now must hide and meet in secret since she’s just a housekeeper in his home. She finds out she’s human when the Dark Fae are under attack but they are family and she will help track down the threat.

Explosive and gripping. Dark and sexy. Tiernan and Fiona together rate combustible.
Loved this second book of possibly tragic love then resolved and won. Can’t wait for the next brother to get his book.

I received a copy of this from NetGalley. Opinions are my own.

A tale of destiny and acceptance, The Rebel King is the engaging second novel in Gina L. Maxwell’s Deviant Kings series. Picking up right where we left off in The Dark King, this installment shines a spotlight on the fun-loving prince we’ve all come to know and love, Tiernan Verran. With coronation day quickly approaching, this Rebel Prince needs to come to terms with accepting the mantel placed upon his shoulders, but there’s something working in the shadows to hinder his ascension.

With one plot against the dark fae foiled, another rears its ugly head, and citizens under the protection of the Verran Kings of Vegas find themselves victims of extremist violence. Maxwell has done a wonderful job of injecting a bit of reality into this political fantasy romance by utilizing the concept that humankind generally reacts to fear of the unknown in a volatile way. And Tiernan makes it his duty to solve the mysteries surrounding these crimes without any undue tension.

By his side is Fiona Jewel, a female that lies lower on the social scale, but one that Tiernan cares for greatly. This book beautifully illustrates their evolution – Tiernan and his progression to accepting his destiny and Fiona’s journey to accepting herself. Only as they grow independently does this connection between them become stronger and stronger, and it’s really beautiful to witness.

They’ve grown to trust each other implicitly and their physical attraction is undeniable. The chemistry between them is sizzling, but there’s something holding Tiernan back from giving into his true desires. Theirs becomes a tragic love because obligation and selfishness seem to always seem to block their path forward. Will they ever find happiness?

I found this was a fun read that had some twists and turns that caught me by surprise. Truths that come to light in this book not only add to the depth of the series as a whole, but also enriches the details in its predecessor. New players join the game, and I’m looking forward to seeing where those pieces fall.

The Rebel King is the second book in the Deviant King series and follows the Verran brother Tiernan. I always like a good Fae book and this one definitely classifies as that! I was excited to see a little more into the world into this book. The little peaks into Finnian in this book make me think I may end up liking the third brother the most!

While I believe this is technically a standalone, I would definitely recommend reading the first book in the series before this. You are introduced to a lot of characters in the first book as well as some back story that carries through to this book. This book is told for both main characters POVs.

Thank you Netgalley and Entangled for the chance to read this in exchange for an honest review.

THE REBEL KING is the second instalment in Gina L Maxwell’s contemporary, adult DEVIANT KINGS erotic, fantasy/paranormal BDSM romance series. This is Las Vegas businessman and the new King of the Dark Fae Tiernan Verran, and hotel assistant Fiona Jewel’s story line. THE REBEL KING can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise including scenes of BDSM, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Fiona and Tiernan) with a final chapter by Finnian THE REBEL KING follows in the aftermath of the attack and murder of several Dark Fae. In an effort to ferret out the people responsible Fiona Jewel offers to go in undercover, undercover as an exotic dancer but all does not go according to plan when Fiona finds herself a captive of the man in charge.

Meanwhile, Fiona and Tiernan’s relationship is at risk in the face of ascension to the throne in the wake of his brother’s abdication (The Dark King 1).Caiden Verran had fallen in love with a woman whose heritage was an unknown, and in the ensuing weeks, would abdicate, leaving his brother heir to the throne but like his brother Tiernan has fallen in love with a woman who will not be an acceptable mate, and as the Dark Fae continue to fall to an unknown enemy, Tiernan must come to terms with a future without the woman he loves.

The world building continues to focus on the Verran family, and the ancient laws that govern the lines of power. As the number of supernatural beings continue to live and survive in the world of the human, Fiona will discover she is not who she has been led to believe.

The relationship between Fiona and Tiernan is one of mutual attraction but Fiona is considered ‘other’ and not an acceptable mate for the throne but Fiona’s otherness is something no one expected, and her otherness is about to force Fiona to the outside, away from the man with whom she had fallen in love. Tiernan only has eyes for our story line heroine but Tiernan knows his time with Fiona is coming to an end. When Fiona volunteers to go undercover, Tiernan sees red, and struggles to find a way for protect the woman with whom he had fallen in love. The $ex scenes are intimate and erotic with some scenes of bondage and whipping.

There is a large ensemble cast of magical and supernatural secondary and supporting characters including Tiernan’s brothers Caiden (Bryn), and Finnian, as well as vampire Dmitri; Fiona’s mother Erin Jewel, and several members of the royal court and advisors. Finnian’s story line is next.

THE REBEL KING is a story of discrimination, racism, speciesism and greed; power and control; family and relationships, acceptance and love. The fast paced, character driven premise is heart breaking, entertaining and dramatic; the romance is provocative and fated; the characters are dynamic and determined.

Rebel King picks up almost exactly where book 1 left off. Tiernan has unexpectedly gained the throne. He is rebelling against all rules and expectations. But when their whole race is put in danger, he gives up everything he wants for what he thinks needs done. We get lots of Bryn and Caiden. We get hints as to what is coming. We get so much heat because we Fiona and Tiernan were lovers when the book started. Their journey from hook ups to more is so good. It's a nice change up to have the story already in motion and the relationship set up from page. one.

Wow! Just Wow! Gina you have done it again. I have fallen for another Verran brother. I knew I liked Tiernan in The Dark King but that has been now upgraded to LOVE! Tiernan and Fiona immediately had my heart in book 1. Having only stolen moments in the theater room I automatically fell for their forbidden romance.

Tiernan is known as the Rebel King. He acts before he thinks, he’s known as the partier and has always been the one with no responsibilities. And he’s fine with that. However when his brother Caiden abdicated duty then fell to Tiernan. Since being announced as future King he must keep his relationship with Fiona a secret, learn what he can about being King oh and stop a war between humans and Fae.

Fiona is an absolute spitfire. She has so much personality and spunkiness and I love it! Fiona is different from other dark Fae. She doesn’t have all the features normal dark Fae have. However she eventually learns news that just might change what she’s thought was true the whole time.

Tiernan and Fiona will grip your heart so tight and never let go. You will root for them, cry for them and laugh with them. The Rebel King was so good! 10/10!

“I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.”

Thank you to NetGalley and Gina for sending me a copy for review.

The Rebel King is book 2 in this series and I loved it just as much as the first. Tiernan and Fiona were amazing together! So good!

Another great story! Tiernan was so much more as a character then he came across as in the first book. Fiona grabs your heart and doesn't let go. The world building is fantastic. Readers get sexy steamy romance, action and suspense, and just the right amount of angst. I am so excited for Finnian's book.

The Rebel King by Gina L Maxwell book 2 in the Deviant Kings series
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
🔥🔥🔥/5
• We saw sneaks peaks of Tiernan and Fiona in book 1 The Dark King so was excited to see more of them.
• Even in the same world this book had a very different vibe and was a bit darker in content and character emotions.
• While listed as a standalone it’s a continuation of the plot from book 1 with a new couple, so book 1 must be read first to understand what is going on.
• The overall plot and reveals during the book very really great, I thought it was going to be heavy politics but it was more like an investigation drama which I love!
• I did feel like the ending was rushing and did not really solve any of the problems that were initially posed with the situation.
- Overall it was a fast paced and fun read, I am still looking forward to what happens next in this world and hoping to see more of some of the wolfie side characters.

The Rebel King is a captivating novel that truly captivated me. The characters in this book are incredibly well-developed, with intriguing backgrounds and compelling storylines. Not only are our main characters absolutely fantastic, but the introduction of side characters adds an extra layer of brilliance to the narrative. As the forbidden love that blossoms between the main characters, it adds an exciting and alluring element to the plot. Deception and confusion intertwine with moments of spice and sadness, creating a rollercoaster of emotions for the reader. Love and loss are also prominent themes, adding depth and complexity to the overall narrative. This book is a captivating continuation of the series, leaving me eagerly anticipating what comes next.
