Thank you so much to Entangled Publishing and Netgalley for letting me read an eARC of The Captain’s Curse! This is the 8th book in The Sentinels of Savannah series, and I’ve definitely enjoyed all of the ones I’ve read- what’s not to love about immortal pirates?
The Captain’s Curse 4/5 Stars
Summary from Goodreads: Captain Ian Flynn would die for any one of his crew…if he could. Now he might have to. Because one of the only known weapons able to kill an immortal is missing. The Spear of Destiny—a priceless religious artifact from the crucifixion—is in the hands of his ship’s ruthless ex-captain. Now the lives of the Sea Dog’s immortal pirate crew are all at risk…along with the headstrong mortal Ian never should have fallen for.
Writer Lily Bouchard isn’t sure what’s worse. That she fell for Ian Flynn only to get her heart broken, or that she romanticized the man like he was some gorgeous viking straight out of a movie. So when he shows up suddenly with some absurd tale of immortal pirates and mythical religious relics, Lily doesn’t know what to think. He’s always had a wildness beneath his well-tailored appearance…but how could any of this possibly be real?
Now a centuries-old vendetta between two pirate captains has erupted, and Ian will do anything to keep Lily safe—even if it means risking everything. But she won’t give him up without a fight.
The only thing more dangerous than killing an immortal is falling for one…
Ahhh another quick, fun read featuring my favorite immortal pirates! What I really liked about The Captain’s Curse is that Captain Ian Flynn was our main character. We got to learn so much more about him and what motivated him to do certain things that were mentioned throughout all of the other books, like having the crew go after the Holy Grail to begin with and why he ended up leading the mutiny on the ship. I also really liked that we got to know Sampson Bane more too- we had heard some things about him back when he was still Morgan, the old captain of the ship, but nothing more than that he was an unnecessarily cruel man who was left on an island after the crew staged a mutiny. In terms of heroines. I liked Lily- she wasn’t my favorite in the series, but there wasn’t anything wrong with her either. I liked that she wasn’t scared of anything that was thrown at her and was willing to dive into everything. Agent Bale is my favorite and I’m excited to see if we ever get a book from his point of view. Overall, I really enjoyed The Captain’s Curse, and I can’t wait for more books in this world!
This story is all about Captain Ian Flynn, the ultimate badass immortal pirate, on a mission to protect his crew and the love of his life, Lily Bouchard. But things get crazy when the Spear of Destiny, this relic that can kill immortals, goes missing. And guess who's behind it? Ian's archenemy, Morgan, seeking revenge. The intensity in this book is off the charts! Ian and Lily are thrown back into each other's lives, and Ian has to earn back her trust while dealing with danger and a secret society. Action? Yup. Romance? Oh yeah, it's sizzling. And there's even a chance for them to make things right and find love again. The story wraps up the whole series in the most thrilling and satisfying way. Seriously, you'll be on the edge of your seat the entire time. Don't even think about missing out on this electrifying conclusion!
Couldn't wait for this fab book to read
With immortal pirates and magic artefacts - just what I need!
This time the focus is on Captain Ian Flynn's romance
Which he rejected - is he getting a second chance?
When he knows being with him will put his love in danger,
Ian opts to ghost her, treating her like a stranger.
However, when in Savannah they meet once more
Their mutual attraction is too much to ignore.
A story where secrets from centuries gone by
Could cause his love to doubt and even to fly.
Dare he reveal his secrets to her?
Will she believe him and still care?
With revelations, secrets and dangers for the crew
Just what should the Captain do?
There's also a threat from the CIA
And a stolen relic that will kill immortals, or so they say.
A vendetta, revelations, a new outlook on life
Could his love help put an end to centuries of strife?
Just who is manipulating events - and why?
Can the Captain ensure no one he cares for will die?
An enthralling story, a page turner read
With immortal pirates determined to succeed.
Will revelations help build bridges and relationships heal
Or will they ensure enmity is all that they feel?
For my complementary copy, I say thank you,
As I share with you this, my honest review.
This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.
I never thought that Captain Flynn would get his own book and romance! Ian falls for Lily but when danger comes back into his life, he decides that she is safer without him and just ghosts her.
Lily was just a great character and didn't take any of Ian's ridiculous "threats" and really did what she felt was best for her.
There was so much drama, intrigue, emotions, and romance that I could not put the book down! Ian and his previous captain, Morgan - now going by the name of Sampson, just hated each other and regressed to their primitive selves when they saw each other but good thing that Holli and Lily were able to mediate or they may have killed each other.
Great conclusion and looks like there may be a romance in the future for Agent Bale. I loved that all the crew were part of the story and in the end, they made a great crew and even better friends.
Ooo this book is for those contemporary readers who like the bad boy image who just happens to be the hero. Ian walked around Atlanta as if he owned it and all the women couldn’t resist his sex appeal. Lily she tries to deny that magnetic pull from him, but it’s to hard. The book was a good read. The characters are interesting and entertaining. It was fun to read the predicaments that found themselves in and it was rather interesting to see them get out of it. The romance was hot. It was steamy and it was just on the verge of a little naughty. The story is a fantasy read that you would love to get swept up by for a night time read. I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
This book is funny, mysterious, emotional, and adventurous. All in all, a perfect book for a summer afternoon. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Captain Flynn is now the most favorite pirate of all time.
Ian Flynn is an immortal pirate who commands the Sea Dog. He lives in Savannah with his crew, but they don’t really like him. He finds out that his former captain, Morgan, whom he and his crew marooned on an island two and a half centuries ago, has a weapon that can end his eternal life. Morgan wants revenge on the crew for betraying him, but he wants to hurt Ian the most by killing the woman he loves. Now that she is in danger from his enemy, he has to win her back.
Lily, a writer, interviewed Ian for a feature on Atlanta’s Most Eligible Bachelor and they fell in love. But he left her without a word He thought he was doing her a favor until he ran into her in Savannah. Lily was hurt and angry, but his own secret made her see him in a new light. She might still love him but she can't trust him. Whether she likes it or not, their paths have crossed yet again.
And along the way, Flynn reconnects with his crew and faces a threat from mysterious monks. The book has action, romance, magic, and a surprise crossover.
Overall, a wonderful paranormal story that will keep you entertained until the end.
The Captain's Curse by Lisa Kessler is book 8 in the Sentinels of Savannah Series. This is the story of Lily Bouchard and Ian Flynn. This series is interconnecting so it does help to have read the previous books but you could make it a standalone book if you wish to do so. Ian was the Sea Dog’s captain who help overturn the previous captain. Thinking he had died they now find out the previous captain is back and wanting to take out Ian. Ian had to break Lily's heart due to wanting to keep her safe but it hasn't worked. Because, she has caught the eye of the enemy. Enjoyed this exciting story.
We finally get Captain Ian Flynn's story but it also marks the end of this series. It's sad but I'm happy we got to know Captain Ian on a deeper level. Lily was a great addition to the crew as well. Thank you so much to the author this series overall was full of adventure and spice.
Captain Ian Fynn hasn't worried much about his life as an immortal until now. Someone has stolen the Spear of Destiny from Department 13 and if it falls into the wrong hands, every one of the Sea Dog's crew is in danger.
Writer Lily Bouchard is trying to mend her broken heart. Ian walked away without any explanation and now here he is with a wild tale about immortal pirates and religious artifacts. She can't wrap her mind around all this at first but he also warns her that someone from his past is looking to settle an old score. So she is also in danger.
He'll do anything to keep her safe but Lily doesn't want any more secrets between them and she wants an equal partnership going forward. She's falling in love with the immortal pirate all over again and Ian wants to spend the rest of his life with her.
Thank you so much to the author, Entangled, and NetGalley for this ARC to review.
Quick Summary: A fantastical adventure romance
My Review: The Captain's Curse by Lisa Kessler is book eight in the Sentinels of Savannah series.
About the Book:
Captain Ian Flynn was a man out of time. Living life as an immortal businessman and spy for a secret agency was not without its challenges. Is he willing to risk the life and love of a woman that he could not so easily forget for the sake of securing a sacred relic?
Lily Bouchard was a writer. She had an appetite for drama and suspense. Never would she have ever imagined that the man she so deeply cared for lived lifetimes upon lifetimes. Is she willing to walk into forever with him, even after his betrayal?
My Final Say: This was my first time reading one of Lisa Kessler's books. It was so strange and mesmerizing. I cannot say enough good things about the paranormal elements or about the link between the past and the present weaved into the pages of this book. Without a doubt, I will be reading more of her works.

Appreciation is extended to the author, to Entangled Publishing, and to NetGalley, who provided access to this title in exchange for an honest review. The words I have shared are my own.
If The Librarian, Warehouse 13, and Highlander got together and had a baby it would be this book, and I love every freaking page of it.
I devoured this book, the story, the characters, the mix of fantasy and reality, it is the perfect combination and I need more.
Let's just talk about the spice for a moment, holy hotness, Ian and Lily have the kind of chemistry that jumps off the page and sucks you in.
The dashes of history, the idea of immortal pirate captains fighting each other, keys to Atlantis, mermaids, and true love, well what more can you ask for in a book?
This review is short and sweet, mainly because I want everyone to read this book so that we can all talk about this fantastic story.
Thank you to Entangled Publishing Amara and NetGalley for providing a copy of this e-book, I have voluntarily read and reviewed it and all thoughts and opinions are my own.
This was an entertaining, well-written book. It was fun, steamy and action-packed. It held my interest and I wanted to keep reading to find out what was going to happen. This book can be read as a standalone story, though it is book 8 of the Sentinels in Savannah series. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more books by this author.
The Captain’s Curse by Lisa Kessler
Sentinels of Savannah series #8. Conclusion. Paranormal romantic suspense.
Captain Ian Flynn is a loner, not by choice, but since he was voted captain, he felt an obligation to his men and his ship. In his eyes, that precluded friendship. The pirate crew had a code not to hurt innocents and to only steal what was needed and never from anyone that was worse off. Flynn also pledged never to share their immortality, thanks to the Holy Grail. All of his crew has found a wife and someone to share their lives with. Flynn has also fallen in love but he walked away from her, thinking he was protecting her. But his enemy knows who she is, and she is no longer safe on her own.
Misunderstood? Flynn has always been protective of his crew but they haven’t always seen it. From the reader perspective, he wasn’t a favorite, by any means. Apparently Flynn didn’t know how or even that he should be sharing more. Lily helps Flynn regain the friendship that he had with the crew. Of course there is danger, and Magic and lots of steamy interludes while Flynn and Lily figure things out in their relationship. The rest of the crew and Department 13 play a role in the danger from the secretive monks in this wrap up too. Plus a bonus Easter Egg crossover that is always fun to find.
A great conclusion to the series.
The Captain's Curse is an amazing conclusion to this series. I sided with the crew in the first few books concerning Captain Ian Flynn specially over the property fight in the first book. Lisa Kessler has been able to make Ian a character I could now sympathize with and even like. It has taken the crew much longer than it did me. However, this pirate does have a heart perhaps he thought it dead long ago, but writer Lily Bouchard has revived it.
An age-old enemy has come after Ian using Lily as part of the means to do just that along with a weapon that can kill immortals. Ian is on to him, but the women involved are also strong tough ones who use common sense and forgiveness. Still a third party steps in to disrupt and destroy.
However, that is not all that is going on in this final book. Department 13 has major problems too. As Ian makes peace with the past, the present needs all the pirates help it can get too. What an exciting grand finish to the series.
An ARC of the book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Captain Ian Flynn has had only minimal contact with the crew of the Sea Dog for the two hundred plus years they've been immortal. He would still give up that existence for any one of them.
Now there is a very real threat out there in the hands of an enemy, and he is a little distracted by a woman.
Thriller writer Lily Bouchard's heart was broken when he disappeared. Now he is back and still ordering her about, supposedly to protect her.
This is an action packed paranormal romance that is part of a great series. I think it's better to read the series in order, but you can enjoy each book on its own. They will however tempt you to go back and buy the others, and wait impatiently for the rest. They are filled with wonderful, magical characters and lots of danger. Our author makes everything seem so possible, even though we know its not. (??????)
The story will grab you on the first page and not let go. They are steamy. You would expect that from pirates though.
Fantastic fun.

**I received a copy of this book from Entangled Publishing and Net Galley. My review was not solicited in any way."
This is the final book in the Sentinel's of Savannah with Captain Ian Flynn finally gets his story and what a doozy it is. We also find out the back story about Captain Rutger Morgan and their feud with each other. I have loved each and every book and am sorry to see it end but perhaps Agent Bale will get his own story (Please?)
There will be mermaids, all of the crew and Lilly Bouchard a writer who had been Ian's girlfriend. Add in the Spear of Destiny, Agent Bale and Department 13 and of course the Holy Grail which has given them all eternal life. But as each has found their forever with the women some have and haven't taken another sip from the Grail. This is a page turner from beginning to end I'd recommend reading them in order as it gives you the whole story behind the crew of the Sea Dog.
This is a fun paranormal story. Ian Flynn is a pirate in the wrong century. Lily Bouchard is an author. Together with the rest of the crew they have to make an alliance and fight off a threat to their existence. The plot is very captivating and will hold the interest of the reader. There are some hot scenes between the couple as they figure out their relationship. Climb into this fantastic world and have some fun.
I never knew what to think about Flynn, he was the outsider of the crew, estranged for an action he did take some two centuries before.
So while he remade himself, and went on with his life, he has still considered his crew as his sole family. Why when they are threatened by an old nemesis, he jumps into the fray, although as the woman who has come to mean the world for him get entangled in their affairs, he must rethink his strategy.
Flynn is a complicated man, no gentleman but led by a code of honor. Still his biggest mistakes were made out of love. But the proud captain has never been able to open up his heart, until…
Lily has a way with words and in some sort to Flynn’s heart. In a short span of time she dug her path into his soul, so much he would sacrifice everything for her, if he has no other choice. She has no special ability and while she could appear as a liability, she talks to Flynn’s reason, helping him see through his scheme and options.
I loved seeing the crew and the world surrounding them through Lily’s lenses, as an author each new detail or information becomes a plot-line, and while amazed and sometimes drowned by all the hints, she finds fuel in it to go forward.
Still even an old enemy is nothing when past foes arise and menace everything they hold dear.
The author grants us an drama and action packed tale.
I hope to see more of Department 13 and Bane in the future.

I have been granted an advance copy by the publisher, here is my true and unbiased opinion.
The Captain's Curse was a exciting fast paced action packed hot as hades story with the return of core characters from previous books giving it a family atmosphere and a intresting plot with twists around ever corner keeping you hanging on the edge of your seat as the plot unfolds and gives you the clues needed to unravel the storyline and reveal the truths needed for a happy and successful conclusion to a good series.
I dived head first into this book not knowing it was a much bigger world. All because I was hooked by the word pirate!
The Captain’s Curse is a novel about pirates with a paranormal spin. The Sea Dog crew are immortal due to drinking from a Holy Grail back in the 1970s.
Now in present day, they all have blended in modern times but still keep some of their roots with their ship. This story focuses on Flynn, the captain, and Lily, a horror writer.
I loved all the elements of this interconnecting world. Even though I did not read the prior novels I still understood what was going on! There are mermaids, shifter, psychic, secret agents, and so much more!
I really enjoyed Flynn’s character arc and basically his epiphany moment that has been his biggest struggle throughout the entire novel.
The surprise epilogue was like having cake and eating it too! Definitely going to go back and read the other couples now.
Thank you NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for the opportunity to read this! It was so nice to see Ian finally get his HEA! I loved the story and ending for this series! I mean come on it’s pirates, adventure, and romance what more can you ask for?
