Tracy Crosswhite is reopening the investigation into Seattle’s Route 99 serial killer. After thirteen victims, he stopped hunting and the trail went cold, stirring public outrage. Now, nearly three decades after his first kill, Tracy is expected to finally bring closure to the victims’ families and redeem the Seattle PD’s reputation. Even if it means working with her nemesis, Captain Johnny Nolasco.
Lead detective of the original task force, Nolasco dares Tracy to do what he failed to: close the case. Forming an uneasy alliance, Tracy and Nolasco revisit old leads and pursue new evidence only to unearth high-level corruption and cover-ups as dangerous as the elusive killer himself. At the risk of being exposed, such deadly and powerful forces will go to extremes to stay in the shadows. That’s just where Tracy and Nolasco are headed—to find the twisted truth behind a killer’s motives, his disappearance, and his chilling comeback.
Robert Dugoni is the reigning king of thrillers, and One Last Kill is the gem at the top of his crown. Highly recommended for all fans of mystery and suspense. #OneLastKill #NetGalley #SaltMarshAuthors
This was like continuing the last book. Very good. It grabs you from the beginning and keeps you guessing. Hard to put down. So many authors tie everything up in a tidy bow at the end of a book but not Dugoni. I like that because it is much more realistic. Real life. Love Tracy Crosswhite books.
Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for allowing me to read this in exchange for my honest review. While this is one of my favorite series, this one was not as great as the previous ones in the series. The story did not hook me like the other ones have. I will still continue to read them though and recommend, and hope the next one hooks me like all the previous ones did. It just did not have that oh my god I can't put this book down feeling for me.
One Last Kill is yet another crime thriller in the Tracy Crossfire series. Now working with the Seattle cold case team she is tasked by Weber the police chief to work the Route 99 serial killer case as The Seattle Times is planing a series of articles to mark the 25 year anniversary since the last death of one the thirteen victims. Her and Weber have had a big fallout and Tracy thinks she’s been set up to fail, Weber also partners her with her nemesis Captain Johnny Nalasco.
Now hoping that advances in DNA analysis will give she’d some new light on the past cases they hope to find some link to the killer, though it’s looking increasingly unlikely.
This is an exciting well constructed police procedural crime thriller, page turning and exciting, I had decided who the killer was towards the end and though correct it remained immensely satisfying until the last page.
My thanks to netgalley and publisher for the opportunity to review this book honestly.
Huge thanks to both Thomas & Mercer and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review an early copy of One Last Kill!
This is Mr. Dugoni's 10th book in the Seattle homicide detective Tracy Crosswhite series. It's quite the page-turner in addition to a police procedural. The expected publication is October 3, 2023.
One Last Kill draws a long-dormant serial killer out of hiding in this riveting book. Tracy Crosswhite is reopening the investigation into Seattle’s Route 99 serial killer. After thirteen victims, he stopped hunting and the trail went cold. Why he stopped is a total mystery.
I very much enjoyed the uneasy alliance between Tracy and Captain Johnny Nolasco! They were both fantastic this time around. It was also nice to have Faz and Del show up, even though they played lesser parts. Although some readers may have guessed the killer's identity, I wasn't one of them...
Mr. Dugoni is one of my very favorite authors and I hope this series never ends!!!
Robert Dugoni Crosswhite series is a must read for me. It is like slipping back into a comfy pair of sweatpants and watching the next episode of your favorite show. This episode was a nice easy read and I enjoyed catching up with my favorite characters - I enjoyed having some of the supporting characters fleshed out a little more and learning more about their backstories. The overall storyline was what I would expect from a Crosswhite novel
This is the third book within the series that moves around the same characters. Major part of the book is a slow police procedural with nothing happening and everything falling into place finally in the last part. For someone who doggedly pursued the case for two decades Nolasco hadn’t seen what Tracy was able to see in a matter of weeks. Apart from such glitches wherein the author tries to make a larger than life character out of the protagonist the book is a slow burn. I didn’t like this trilogy plot wise nor the resolution.
Thanks very much to NetGalley and Amazon Publishing for providing a free ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I love reading mysteries set in my home are of the Pacific Northwest and the Tracy Crosswhite series has always delivered great mysteries that seem to be set in my backyard.
One Last Kill continues that success and finds Tracy still crushing cold cases when she is handed a 25 year old serial killer case that was never solved and is now heating up again. As usual, she has to battle office politics to get the job done, making that that much harder. I really liked how Tracy and Nolasco's relationship grew in this story from grudgingly working together to developing real trust and having each others back. Nice to finally see Tracy get some well earned respect.
Big fan of this series and its never disappointed, still going strong after 10 books. Highly recommended.
Thank you #NetGalley for the opportunity to read Robert Dugoni’s latest police thriller, One Last Kill , due for publication October 3, 2023.
This is #10 in the series dedicated to Seattle Detective Tracy Crosswhite, where we learn she has been assigned the impossible task of cracking the three decades-old cold case of the Route 66 serial killer. Is her boss, Police Chief Marcella Weber, setting her up due to old grievances between the women? That seems an even more likely when her nemesis, Captain Johnny Nolasco, is assigned to work as her partner. Somehow, Tracy and Nolasco slowly form a begrudging alliance to right the wrong of not nabbing the killer years before, and by the end, the reader almost feels sorry for Nolasco’s downward spiral after the failure of his Route 66 task force so many years before.
The reader can enjoy this book as a stand-alone, as the backstories with various characters are introduced and explained in a simple way so you can enjoy the action and understand what the relationships are.
Tracy relies on solid police work, new DNA technology, research, interviews, and a few trusted contacts to make a difference as a detective. She is a likable character, although her emotional self-control is a little hard to believe sometimes in the face of very difficult colleagues and situations. We want to see her succeed and trust her judgement.
This book has many different spokes in its narrative wheel, keeping the pace of the story moving forward and the reader engaged. There are the usual issues tying police, press and politicians together, but there is a psychological aspect to the story as well, which I enjoyed. At about 380 pages, it is a bit longer than it needed to be, but a solid police procedural/thriller. 4-stars.
As usual Dugoni has knocked it out of the park. Tracy Crosswhite is an incredible character as are others that have been long term in these books
Cant wait for the next
In "One last kill” Robert Dugoni delivers a gripping and complex police procedural. Detective Tracy Crosswhite, directed by her boss to reexamine a thirty-year-old serial killer case, is partnered with her former nemesis, Captain Johnny Nolasco. As they delve deeper into the investigation, the lines between personal and professional relationships blur, and they confront corruption within the police force and among their colleagues.
Dugoni's characters are the standout feature of this novel. Tracy and Nolasco are well-drawn and compelling, with motivations and backstories that drive their actions. The secondary characters, including members of the original task force and the suspects they investigate, are equally fleshed out and add depth to the story.
Dugoni's writing is concise and precise, with each scene contributing to the larger narrative. The pacing is fast, and the tension builds throughout the novel. As the investigation unfolds, Dugoni keeps readers guessing, with plenty of twists and turns to keep them engaged.
Overall, "One last kill” is a gripping and satisfying police procedural that will keep readers on the edge of their seats. Dugoni is a master of the genre, and this novel is a testament to his skill in crafting compelling characters and intricate plots.
This was great! I love this series and they keep getting better and better. I'd like to see Tracy back with her old team, and they were in this some. Nolasco being nice, was a nice change! if you haven't read this series yet, do so now! Best to start. at the beginning, you won't be disappointed!
highly recommended!
Book 10 in the Tracy Crosswhite series was by far one of my favorites. I read this all in one day and stayed up until 6am to finish it. I love books that make me forget I’m reading and this is one of those. It kept me on edge the entire time and I didn’t know what was going to happen next. If you’re a fan of the series, don’t skip this book! I had so much fun with this book.
Another solid story in the Tracy Crosswhite series. I stayed up way too late to finish this one because once I hit the 65% mark I couldn’t go to sleep not knowing. Tracy is still on cold cases (a move that I think really helped keep the series fresh), but this time around she’s tasked with working with Nolasco, her long time adversary and Captain. I’ve read every installment of this series and I actually gasped out loud when Nolasco was assigned instead of Faz. The mystery is more of a slow burn this time around and the fun was seeing how Tracy and Nolasco work together. Tracy is always the moral compass and the other characters see more gray. Nolasco has always been “bad” so it was good to see a different side of him and the flashbacks to him running the original task force for this case. All in all, a strong add to the series and, as always, I can’t wait for the next.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a digital copy and a chance to read this early. All opinions are my own.
robert dugoni does it again! anyone who knows me, knows that i love this series so much. this is a perfect addition to the tracy crosswhite "universe". i always forget how much i love tracy as a character. she is sassy, determined, hard working, and doesn't take crap from anyone. she works hard for the victims and their families, even after their cases go cold. i loved the slight "enemies to lovers" trope, except the work colleagues edition between tracy and nolasco. tracy and nolasco have a complicated past due to tracy being an excellent female detective, starting with her beating his shooting range score in the academy and continuing due to her being awarded several medals of valor due to her success in solving cases. i really loved learning more about nolasco and seeing their relationship progress from distrust to having each other's backs.
i can tell how much research dugoni does for his books, and can tell that he consults with actual detectives. the gradual, but severe deterioration shown after nolasco is reassigned to this case was so accurate. he starts chain smoking, loses weight, and sleep over the case, as it consumes him and affects his mental health. nolasco throwing away his cigarettes at the end of the book shows his positive outlook on the future, at least for now.
this is definitely a slow burn thriller, so don't go into this book expecting a plot twist every other chapter. the first 50-60% of the book is investigation and pursuing leads without much return. i didn't guess who the killer was, and it seemed unlikely that anyone would be able to with the amount of details i remember of the case. i think it would be really hard, as an author, to balance the hints without revealing too much and making it obvious. i recommend this series to everyone who is interested in a murder mystery heavy in police procedure, but is actually entertaining and well written!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy of this book.
Detective Tracy Whitecross works cold cases. She is ordered by chief Weber to look into the Route 99 serial killer cases. When she asks for help, she has to work with captain Nolasco, her boss and nemesis.
As they look into the cars, things gone to light. Mistakes in the investigation and information not feint passed on. Can Tracy live up to her reputation and solve the old murders?
This is book 10 in the series and I’m loving it. I really enjoy Tracy’s thought processes as she works though the clues methodically. This was built slowly but surely and was a great read. My only tiny criticism is missing her former partner Kins.
One Last Kill is Robert Dugoni’s tenth novel in the Tracy Crosswhite series and is undoubtedly one of his best. Tracy is assigned a 25 year old cold case which leads to the resumption of killing in this serial killer novel. As usual, Tracy is involved in personality conflicts with her superiors and, of course, jealousy by many of her colleagues due to her ability to solve crimes and the resultant publicity thrust upon her. With a forced partnership with the case’s original detective (now a captain), she defies the odds and not only finds the killer through amazing detective work but also wins over the respect of her partner.
This book is a gem of a page turner, is hard to put down and will keep the reader constantly guessing. I thank NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for the opportunity to read and review this book prior to publication.
As always the Crosswhite series is great. I really enjoyed this one where we get to see more on the hated Captain Nolasco, who becomes a more complex character than just Tracey's perspective of him. The story is excellent and ties together with a short story and book 9, while remaining an okay stand alone (but really, read them all, in order!).
Excellent! I love Detective Tracy Crosswhite. Amazing story and police procedural with fabulous characters. I immediately ran and got Book 1 in the series. I'm hooked! 5 stars.
Once again Robert Dugoni hits it out of the park with the newest Tracy Crosswhite book, One Last Kill. Once I started this book I could not put it down. The book was tightly plotted and never had a dull moment. One Last Kill pairs Crosswhite with her nemesis, Capt. Nolasco. I really like that Dugoni brought Nolasco's character to life and showed he was more than someone with a grudge. He set his grudge aside to work the case, and they were equal partners working on a case together. I did not see the end coming and it surprised me. In hindsight, all the clues were there. This is another five star winner from Dugoni. #Netgalley #OneLastKill
