I enjoy these collections of stories. They either introduce me to new series or author or are a nice way to hold me over until the next book in a series comes out. These have a mitten theme and all were enjoyable to read. Maddie Day’s series is new and it was great catching up on what is going on with Haley and Mia. I look forward to the next books in all 3 series.
Thank you to the author, Kensington Books, and NetGalley for the Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
It is indeed the most wonderful time of the year…except murder is also in the plan. These compilation books make me very happy. I am familiar with one only of the authors, Lynn Cahoon, but am so glad I got the chance to visit the worlds of Lee Hollis and Maddie Day. These short stories are full of seasonal joy and all the things that make us love cozies,
Three enjoyable Christmas mysteries by 3 of the best. Lots of Christmassy touches add to stories - cozy up,with a blanket and treat yourself!
DEATH OF A CHRISTMAS MITTEN KNITTER - Welcome back to Bar Harbor where Hayley Powell has been roped into contributing a basket to the local church Christmas bazaar Other than a few knitting squabbles, things are going well. That’s until the valuable ring goes missing and a knitter goes missing.
TWO CHRISTMAS MITTENS – Mia a kitchen witch is managing a restaurant while Abigail is managing Mia’s business until she has the funds to return. Leaving an event, a competitor has catered Mia finds her assistant Christina’s professor dead in the parking lot. Christina is found clutching a mitten and ill. Turns out the mitten is missing its pair and until it can be found Christina won’t recover. I really enjoyed this story. I love the series.
MURDEROUS MITTENS – This is the start of a new series! We meet a set of twins who will spend Christmas together. One is a successful realtor, married, and has her own set of twin boys. The other has a college daughter, is divorced, and at loose ends. Set in the Alexander Valley in California. This was an enjoyable mystery. I look forward to the first book in this series.
Three of my favorite cozy mystery writers deliver short stories worth their weight in tinsel and mistletoe. An early Christmas gift to me from me. Loved all three again!!!
Three stories about murder and Christmas Mittens
First is an older woman from a knitting club is found stabbed with her knitting needle and a mitten stuffed in her mouth in the garden outside the church fundraiser. Many people in town had reasons not to like the woman, but who had enough reason to kill her?
Second is the body of a married college professor who liked to drink and rumored to sleep around found dead in the parking lot outside of a holiday party with a single Christmas mitten found nearby. The town coven becomes involved in finding the murderer due to the curse that surrounds the pair of mittens that when they are separated whoever touches the single mitten will die. The best friend of a young woman who the coven wants to join them touched the mitten and is now in need of a miracle to survive.
Third is a woman who not many in the wine town liked killed when a bocce ball in a Christmas mitten swung and hit her in the head. Can CeCe and her new friend Cam help the police find the murderer before they arrest CeCe's twin sister Allie for the murder.
Christmas Mittens Murder consists of three short cozy mysteries from popular mystery series. In Death of a Christmas Knitter by Lee Hollis, we join Hayley Powell and the gang as they help celebrate the holiday season with a raffle for the church. When one of the towns knitters turns up murdered at the event, Hayley jumps into the investigation and doesn’t give up until she has narrowed down the suspects to find the killer. I have enjoyed every Hayley Powell mystery that I have read so far and this one was no different. I found this to be a quick to read cozy mystery that set the mood, minus the murder, for Christmas. It is a good read and this is a good series to look into if you enjoy a good cozy mystery with some food thrown in.
Two Christmas Mittens is part of Lynn Cahoon’s Kitchen Witch Mysteries series. When a dead body is discovered following the Lodge’s holiday party and a curse is passed to one of her friends, Mia Malone finds herself tied up in another investigation. I have always found this to be a great series and this holiday themed mystery was no different. I really enjoy the characters in this series and like the element of magic thrown in. If you haven’t read this series yet, I would definitely recommend giving it a try!
Murderous Mittens by Maddie Day is part of the Cece Barton mystery series. Cece Barton I’m in Colina’s, CA costing her twin sister when she stumbles into a murder investigation. With the help of another visitor, Cam, Cece helps solve the case. This is the first I have read in this series, it I really enjoyed getting to know this cast of characters. The mystery was fun, and mitten themed like all of the stories in this book. This was a good mystery to wrap up this holiday mystery set and it was a good emojify introduction to this series that I am interested in reading more of an eve’s adventures. Overall I enjoyed this story and the book as a whole!
This is a great collection of three holiday cozy mysteries that is a great way for a cozy fan to be introduced to these series and authors.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book!
CHRISTMAS MITTENS MURDER is the delightful collection of three holiday novellas by Lee Hollis, Lynn Cahoon, and Maddie Day! One of the things I like most about Kensington’s holiday collections is the opportunity to catch up with characters I already know and love and find new authors or new series before I invest in a full-length book. In this newest Christmas collection, the theme is mittens. Each of the authors has put their own fiendish spin on murder and mittens and, even though the stories are short, have knitted together full-length intrigue in fast-paced plots!
The first novella, Death of a Christmas Mitten Knitter, is written by Lee Hollis. Intrepid restaurant owner/food writer protagonist, Hayley Powell, is once again thrust into the role of finding out who killed a local knitter at a charity event. Besides a dastardly plot to solve, the novella is full of Christmas cheer. There are even a few holiday recipes sprinkled throughout, which adds to the festive atmosphere. I so enjoyed catching up with Hayley and her gang! The author does an admirable job of bringing the characters and their humorous quirks to life on the pages while tracking down a killer.
The second novella, Two Christmas Mittens by Lynn Cahoon, is based on her Kitchen Witch Mysteries. I’ve read a couple of the books in this series (and need to catch up on the last two) but I found it easy to get to know the protagonist, Mia Malone, along with the other characters. While a Christmas story, the paranormal element adds a spooky tone. Given that Halloween is right around the corner as I read the book, it added to the appeal. I also liked the sense of urgency in Mia solving the crime, and I found myself turning the pages faster and faster.
The third and final novella, Murderous Mittens by Maddie Day, turned out to be a prequel to the release of her upcoming brand-new Cece Barton Mysteries. One thing I truly enjoyed was the introduction to the new characters, especially protagonist Cece Barton, and get a peek at her relationship with her twin sister and family. It was also a fun surprise by a visit from a crossover character from one of Maddie’s earlier series. The mystery itself was well-plotted, and there are clues for the armchair detective to follow. Given this introduction to the new series, I’m even more eager for the first book to release!
I was provided with an advance copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This book includes three different stories about Christmas mittens, each by a different author.
The first story by Lee Hollis begins with a raffle at church with different groups offering a basket of goodies. Attendees could put their raffle tickets in the jars of items they would like. There was a fair amount of competition among the donors as to who would get the most raffle tickets. When a diamond ring is stolen from the jeweler's basket, someone goes outside to look, they find one of the knitters dead with a hand knit mitten stuffed in their mouth. Haley goes to the meeting of the rival knitters group to try to find the culprit.
The second story is by Lynn Cahoon. I have loved the Tourest Trap and Survivor's Book Club books by her, but had trouble getting through this one which includes a lot of magic. As a scientist, I'm not fond of magical stories. This one had magic mittens, and when someone picked up one, they caught a spell. Mia has to find the mitten's mate in order to save her friend.
I liked the third story by Maddie Day the best. It takes place in California where a woman is killed by someone hitting her with a bocce ball inside a mitten which was knit by the dead woman. Cece is visiting her sister, who is a person of interest of the police, and Cece needs to find the killer so her sister won't be arrested.
I thank Netgalley and Kensington Books for the ARC.
This is a compilation of three novellas that involve mittens in the storyline.
The three novellas are
Death of a Christmas Mitten Knitter by Lee Hollis
Two Christmas Mittens by Lynn Cahoon
Murderous Mittens by Maddie Day
My favorite was Two Christmas Mittens. In it, Mia has to stop a curse caused by mittens. She didn’t know of the folklore that tells of red mittens causing terrible things. Mia’s friend Christina gets caught in the crossfire of the curse.
Death of a Christmas Mitten Knitter involves a Christmas bazaar and the story was just a but bizarre.
Murderous Mittens introduces Cece Barton who is the main character in a new series by Maddie Day.
This is a fun new book. It will bring the mood of the holidays. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book.
I love these holiday collections from Kensington Publishing and was fortunate to receive an advance copy of this ebook at no cost from them and NetGalley. The book consists of three novellas by three different authors, but with the common element of "Christmas Mittens." These collections are a good way to get more of your favorite cozy authors or characters and also to meet new ones that you're not familiar with.
This collection has stories with a stolen mitten, a cursed mitten, and a mitten as a murder weapon. I've read books by each of the three authors, but two of the three were from unfamiliar series. I wasn't as engaged in these stories as in some of the prior collections, but still enjoyed them. They all have interesting main characters and the mysteries have satisfying endings. I think this book is perfect for reading inside on a cold day, with a nice cup of hot tea or hot chocolate. (3.5/4 stars)
Having just finished a light holiday cozy mystery novella, this was a little bit darker than expected. That said, I really love the work of all 3 authors and highly enjoyed all three stories; I stayed up reading instead of sleeping! All 3 did a good job incorporating mittens into their stories and we got 3 very distinct stories.
Three murderous mitten themed novellas set at Christmastime. Three different authors. It's a clever and entertaining way to sample their writing styles and characters and see who you wish to pursue further!
You get three great stories by three wonderful authors that I love to read. Each story is different but with one common element – Christmas Mittens. I loved all three stories. They all have great story lines, and are different enough that reading them definitely keeps your interest. The cast of characters in each story are wonderful. If you enjoy Christmas stories, I think you will enjoy these. I received this book from NetGalley, but my opinion is my own.
Christmas Mittens Murder has three fun Christmas mysteries.
In Death of a Christmas Mitten Knitter by Lee Hollis. Hayley has two mysteries to solve. The first one involves an expensive diamond being stolen from the church bazaar. The second one involves a dead body being discovered with a mitten in her mouth.
In Two Christmas Mittens by Lynn Cahoon, Mia takes on a second job at the local lodge. One day she discovers a dead body outside of the lodge with a single red mitten beside it. Where is the other red mitten? Mia believes that it belongs to the person who committed the crime.
In Murderous Mittens by Maddie Day
In the story, In the Woods by Mariona Tolosa Sistere, A family makes plans to spend a day in the woods. Once there, they discover all types of interesting things by using their five senses.
Murderous Mittens by Maddie Day. Cece is visiting her twin sister who owns a B&B in a quiet, Californian town. One night, the owner of the local wine bar is murdered. Unfortunately, Cece’s twin becomes one of the main suspects. Will Cece be able to solve the mystery so that her twin does not have to spend Christmas in jail?
All three stories are set in charming towns during Christmas time which will get you into the Christmas spirit.
I enjoy the cozy holiday novellas put out by Kensington. This one, for Christmas has a mitten or mittens involved as per the title.
The first one is Haley Powell story by Lee Hollis. I enjoy this series so looked forward to reading it. It was fun read with a good mystery involving a thief, a raffle, and a murder. There was plenty of humor injected along the way.
The second story was by Lynn Cahoon, part of a kitchen witch series. While I have heard of this series, I have not read but was able to follow along and the mystery was good.
The third story is by Maddie Day, an prequel to her new series. It set up nicely for the first book, answering questions as we meet CeCe and her sister Allie. The mystery was good and makes one look forward to the first book.
Christmas Mittens Murder is an anthology of 3 novellas by Lee Hollis, Lynn Cahoon and Maddie Day. All 3 were enjoyable cozy mysteries from their series. Lee Hollis's novella is from her Hayley Powell Food & Cocktails Mystery #16.5 - Death of a Christmas Mitten Knitter. Hayley is helping out at the Church's Christmas Bazaar along with Mona and Liddy. One of the members of a quilting group ends up dead. I have read many of the books in this series and I enjoyed this novella.
The 2nd novella is Lynn Cahoon's Two Christmas Mittens from her Kitchen Witch series. Mia owns an old school that she has converted for her catering business and an apartment. Mia works at the Lodge as their Catering Director. It is the Lodge's Christmas Party which Mia and her friends and employees Christina and Abigail are attending. Mia meets Christina's college professor who ends up dead. There is a pair of magic mittens that cause problems for Mia and her friends. This was my favorite of the three but all were enjoyable.
The 3rd novella is Maddie Day's Murderous Mittens. Characters from two of her series are in it. CeCe Burton is visiting her twin sister Allie and family. CeCe meets Cameron (Cam) Flaherty, a farmer from Massachusetts, at a wine bar. The owner sells mittens on the side. She ends up dead and Allie is a suspect. CeCe relies on Cam to do a lot of the sleuthing which is unusual. I'm not familiar with these characters but the novella was good. To have these 3 awesome authors in one book makes it worth reading! Very enjoyable! #ChristmasMittensMurder #NetGalley #KensingtonBooks
Christmas Mittens Murder
Two Christmas Mittens by Lynn Cahoon
What happens when one combines fairy tales, curses, and Christmas mittens? Mia, the protagonist of Cahoon’s Kitchen Witch series, has to rush against time to save her assistant and friend from a curse transmitted by mittens. While far-fetched, the premise actually works well within the magical world of this series. The story fits in nicely with the other works in the series.
Murderous Mittens by Maddie Day
This novella introduces Cece Barton, the protagonist of Day’s new series. Cece’s holiday visit with her twin sister Allie and her family takes a dark turn when a local business owner is found dead from a weapon involving a mitten and Allie is considered a suspect. Cece decides to solve the crime, even though she has no investigative experience. I enjoyed Cece’s quest to help her sister. I look forward to reading the first book in the series.
Christmas Mittens Murder is a novel that contains 3 cozy novels in one . The common theme is Christmas and mittens or gloves .
The first cozy installment is by author Lee Hollis staring Hayley Powell ,Food critic and restaurant owner . This is my favorite mainly because I am a long time fan and always love the humor and light hearted mystery that are in Hollis ‘ novels .
The Second cozy is by Lynn Cahoon and is part of the Witch Kitchen Series . I have never read any of the books in this series and was a little confused by the character, therefore, this was not my favorite. I still thought the story was good but found the character of a witch in a Christmas theme novel strange .
The third is by author Maddie Day and introduces a new character Cece and her twin sister . I have the novel Murder Uncorked in my TBR file and was not sure how the two fit in .
I just reviewed Christmas Mittens Murder by Lee Hollis; Lynn Cahoon; Maddie Day. #ChristmasMittensMurder #NetGalley
Christmas Mittens Murder is 3 cozy mysteries that take place around Christmas time. It doesn't hurt that the stories are written by 3 authors that I enjoy reading. The first story is by Lee Hollis and takes us to Maine, while the second story by Lynn Cahoon takes us to a magical town in Idaho and finally Maddie Day takes us to wine country in California, where she introduces us to her new cozy mystery series, Based on the title of the book, you can be sure that Christmas mittens are the common element. If you've never read anything by these authors, I recommend you read Christmas Mittens Murder, to find out what you've been missing.
