This collection of 3 Christmas novellas had delightfully unique takes on using mittens in a murder.
In "Death of a Christmas Mitten Knitter" by Lee Hollis, the annual Christmas bazaar is interrupted by the death of a local knitter, stabbed with her knitting needle & a homemade mitten stuffed in her mouth. Magic Springs, Idaho is busy with the holiday season in "Two Christmas Mittens" by Lynn Cahoon. Mia Malone finds the dead body of a professor in the snow near the Lodge. A red mitten is found nearby but when her friend Christina picks up the mitten, she becomes victim of a curse. Now Mia & other coven members must find the second mitten to save Christina's life & find the killer. A new series by Maddie Day is introduced in "Murderous Mittens" with Cece Barton visiting her twin sister Allie in Colinas, California. When the bartender at the local bar is killed with a bocce ball stuffed inside a handknit mitten, Cece is shocked to learn that the police consider Allie as the prime suspect. With the help of Massachusetts visitor Cam Flaherty (from another of Maddie Day's series), Cece works to clear Allie of this heinous crime.
I received a digital ARC from Netgalley and Kensington Books. All opinions are my own.
Death Of A Christmas Mitten Knitter by Lee Hollis
Ms.Hollis tale of a soul murdered at Christmas is one of many with varying motives. Nicely crafted to produce, then eliminate suspects. All have viable motives, but the murderer’s was one no one suspected.
Two Christmas Mittens by Lynn Cahoon
Ms. Cahoon pens a Christmas gathering attended by a few paranormals. A gathering ending with a body and a young lady very ill. Mia and her friends race the clock to solve the mystery of how and why.
Murderous Mittens by Maddie Day
Ms. Day’s small town cozy is an intriguing look at the hospitality industry there. A small B&B, a wine bar and several small shops populate the downtown area. Her characters are varied and vivid. CeCe is visiting who sister who owns the B&B and is drawn into investigating a very unusual murder.
All three books are a little off the beaten path and enjoyable reads. I’d recommend to any cozy lover to kick off the holiday season.
I requested and received a NetGalley ARC gratis and offer my opinion in the same.
I want to thank NetGalley and the publishers for letting me read and review an advanced copy of this book.
Who would believe that Christmas mittens and murder could be the main theme of three novellas in this book. All three stories had amateur sleuths trying to help solve each murder scenario where they had to also try and protect someone they believed were being innocently framed as a chief suspect. Who could believe that a knitter could also be a murderer?
One story dealt with witches, covens, and curses which was not my favorite storyline, but all three stories were well thought out with surprise endings.
I guess I will never look at hand-knitted Christmas mittens in the same way from now on.
I really loved this book in a new to my series and author. I can't wait to read the next one. The characters and location really add to the plot. This book keeps you guessing until the end
This was a great cozy with 3 short stories to get you in the Christmas spirit. There no need to read all that come before in each series as you can follow along and enjoy these on their own
Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for the chance to read and review this book
I received a free copy of, Christmas Mittens Murder, by Lee Hollis, Lynn Calhoun, and Maddie Day, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Who knew mittens can be so dangerous. This book has three stories in it. The first story is: Death of a Christmas Mitten Knitter, by Lee Hollis missing jewelry and a murder too, Hayley will be busy this Christmas season, in Bar Harbor. The second story is: Two Christmas Mittens, by Lyn Cahoon, Magic Springs, Idaho should be magical at Christmas, but this year there is a murder to be solved Mia, must solve the mystery while also trying to save her business, Mia's Morsels, such a busy time of year. The third story is: Murderous Mittens by Maddie Day, Cece is looking forward to a quiet Christmas with her twin sister Allie, but someone is murdered and her twin is a suspect, can she solve the crime and save Christmas for the town? I really liked all the stories, they were all good and thrilling.
Slightly disappointed with this selection. I was expecting a Country Store novella from Maddie Day, but was introduced to a new series. I am starting to really enjoy the Lee Hollis novellas. I may have to start that series from Lee Hollis.
Christmas Mittens Murder is a group of short stories by three cozy mystery authors. The clever connection of mittens made the book even more fun. Lee Hollis is a new to me author. Although DEATH OF A CHRISTMAS MITTEN KNITTER was entertaining, I wish I was more familiar with the characters. I believe someone who has read this series would enjoy it more.
Lynn Cahoon's Kitchen Witch series is one of my favorites but TWO CHRISTMAS MITTENS felt a bit rushed. I would love to read an expanded version. I can never get enough of Mia and the gang
Maddie Day's MURDEROUS MITTENS was a quick read and I'd like to revisit these characters. The author had one of the most unique murder weapons I've read in a while.
Three fun Christmas themed books that revolved around mittens.
DEATH OF A CHRISTMAS MITTEN KNITTER by LEE
HOLLIS
Well written!
Hayley is our amateur detective trying to find out who done it. Such a fast paced read and it developed quite well throughout. Loved the characters and the overall storyline.
5/5 stars.
TWO CHRISTMAS MITTENS by LYNN CAHOON
How do you break a spell when you know nothing about magic? Mia has been raised without magic, but is going to have to learn quickly to save a close friend.
Such a great book loved the whole thing from the magic to the mittens just an overall great cozy mystery. I will definitely be looking into reading more from this author.
5/5 stars
MURDEROUS MITTENS by MADDIE DAY
Cece is visiting her twin when murder strikes in the small town. She, along with a new friend, named Cam will have to work hard to find the killer.
Not really Fast-paced, under developed characters, felt like the story was all over the place.
3/5 stars
Thank you NetGalley, Maddie Day, Lynn Cahoon, Lee Hollis , and Kensington Cozies for a chance to read this Arc. I love love love holiday cozy mysteries and this definitely hit the spot for me. I will definitely be recommending this to a lot of my close friends for some time.
A top notch collection from three great cozy writers.
A must read for cozy fans.
I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
A delightful trio of Christmas stories by three terrific cozy mystery writers. Wrapped around Christmas each story made me happy.
This is a fun collection of three Christmas themed stories, with a mitten carrying through all three books.
DEATH OF A CHRISTMAS MITTEN KNITTER by LEE HOLLIS
Surprise ending! Yay!
No sex, no graphic violence, no swearing. Well written!
Hayley is our amateur sleuth trying it knit out who done it.
Not a lot of character development, but with short stories that's a hard feat to accomplish.
4 out of 5 stars.
TWO CHRISTMAS MITTENS by LYNN CAHOON
How do you break a spell when you know nothing about magic? Mia has been raised without magic, but
is going to have to learn quickly to save a close friend.
No sex, no graphic violence, no swearing.
Not my favorite book. Neither the magic or the murder seemed to be a theme...there was something
missing that I can't even really put my finger on.
3.5 out of 5 stars.
MURDEROUS MITTENS by MADDIE DAY
Cece is visiting her twin when murder strikes in the small town. She, along with a new friend, will
have to work hard to find the killer.
Fast-paced, well developed characters, interesting, and kept me turning the page.
I really like this book, but you'll want to read the book following this one to tie up some unanswered questions.
No sex
No graphic violence
No swearing
4.5 out of 5 stars.
Overall, I liked this book and recommend it to anyone in search of a good cozy.
I give the book as a whole 4.3 out of 5 stars.
Thank you to Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.
While I love all three of these authors and their series, two of them are novellas in their current series and the third is a novella that precedes a new series. EACH ONE OF THESE STORIES ARE GREAT!
If you haven’t read any of these authors before this is a great opportunity for you to “Try them on for size”. You’ll fall in love with all three of these authors, and they have a lot of books for you to read, as they are all talented and have several great series. Enjoy a little Christmas any time of year with this book!
I mostly enjoyed this book. I did end up skipping most of the story by Lynn Cahoon as it seemed overly complicated & involves a lot that did focus on the murder. I couldn’t get into it. I did enjoy the other 2 stories. It is funny that I read the story after the Maddie Day story before reading this one. #ChristmasMittensMurder #NetGalley
Christmas Mittens Murder
by Lee Hollis; Lynn Cahoon; Maddie Day is a collection of three novellas that are cozy mysteries and all have the common theme of those classic wintery, festive knitwear. Too much fun!
I always love the collections of original novellas with holiday or other adorable themes that Kensington produces, and this is no exception.
This one is comprised of:
DEATH OF A CHRISTMAS MITTEN KNITTER by LEE HOLLIS from the Hayley Powell Food and Cocktails Mystery series.
TWO CHRISTMAS MITTENS by LYNN CAHOON from the Kitchen Witch Mystery series.
MURDEROUS MITTENS by MADDIE DAY from the new A CeCe Barton Mystery series.
I have read anything and everything Hayley Mills, so of course thus sold the book for me. I just loved it.
I have never read any of the Kitchen Witch series, and it was cute, but just not as up my alley.
I live anything Maddie Day, so I enjoyed this jump start as well into this new series.
4/5 stars
Thank you NG and Kensington Books for this wonderful arc and in return I am submitting my unbiased and voluntary review and opinion.
I am posting this review to my GR and Bookbub accounts immediately and will post it to my Amazon, Instagram, and B&N accounts upon publication on 9/26/23.
I absolutely love the duo that makes up Lee Hollis and this short story hit the spot! The others were wonderful as well.
#ChristmasMittensMurder #NetGalley is a trio of stories written by three fantastic authors.
Each story revolves around Christmas mittens, who knew such cute items could be so deadly.
In the first story we catch up with Hayley Powell, where a Christmas bazaar turns deadly and everyone points a finger at possible suspects.
Our second story features our kitchen witch, Mia, and a cursed pair of mittens turns deadly. Mia needs to act fast to end the curse.
In our third and last story, we meet CeCe Barton, a new protagonist who I liked right from the start. Another death takes place, and the murder weapon, a mitten that becomes a deadly weapon.
There's nothing I like more than a holiday themed cozy mystery and this book is perfect for a weekend read.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for selecting me to read an advanced copy of this book.
I love when these three authors team up in a book. Whether it be for Halloween or the holidays, they’re fun mystery reads, and our patrons throughly enjoy them.
