Polymer Clay Jewelry is a great resources for both professional and beginners. This will be a great addition to any collection and programming resource. The instructions are easy to read and follow.
As a fellow polymer clay jewelry maker, I was SO EXCITED to get my hands on this book and learn that beautiful techniques that Rachael has demonstrated for years on social media. The photography is gorgeous and the tutorials are thoughtful and well laid out. I can't wait to sit down with my clay and follow along! In an age full of gatekeeping, what a refreshing perspective to have an artist share their favorite tips and styles with other makers. Thank you Rachael!
Thank you Netgalley for providing me with a free ebook copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This book came at the perfect time for me. One of my goals for this year was to start experimenting with clay art, and some things on my year bucket list were to make some clay art jewlery and jewlery dishes. I was so happy to receive a digital copy of this book to read through and educate myself a little bit more on an area of creativity I had been wanting to engage with. This book is fantastic for beginners of clay art jewlery, each page is set up with picture prompts and descriptions of what to do. The book is filled with pictures of jewlery the author has made (which is fantastic for inspiration) and it describes exactly how the process of clay art jewlery works. The authors jewlery is all so fun and vibrant, which was exciting to see how to work with coloured polymer clay. I myself only had plain white and natural clay from home and had to paint mine after creating, but I am excited to try out similar ideas to that of the ones in this book. The author uses a variety of colours to create and blend together the polymer clay resulting in some exceptionally groovy jewlery.
This book would be a perfect addition to a fun art themed night for a group of friends who wanted to get together and learn a new form of art. Much like a paint night, why not try out a polymer clay art night using the projects from this book?
This is definitely a book I will be recommending to the library for purchase in our arts and craft section, and I encourage any of those who are interested in learning the art of polymer clay jewlwery to pick up a copy.
very easy to use, easy to understand and follow along projects from this author.
The author also explains the assorted tools you might need to use while creating your projects.
Thank you to Netgalley, Rachael Skidmore, and Quarto Publishing Group – Walter Foster, Walter Foster Publishing for providing me with a free copy for an honest review!
I especially enjoyed the chapters about the basics of polymer clay jewelry crafting and introduction. It was great that there was a section on color theory providing some insights on how to adapt color schemes to your liking. I did like the how-to guide for a variety of projects. The projects seem quite doable, however, I did not try one - yet. The images are beautiful and the instructions are clear. I also love the section about baking and how to care afterward.
This book is all about how to use polymer clay to make earrings you’ll be proud to wear (unlike the ones I made my mother when I was much younger and she wore out of kindness, not because they looked good!). The book starts with a lot of helpful information – I’ve been crafting with polymer clay on and off for 20 years and I didn’t know most of the information that was provided. Details about the main brands of clay and their subtypes were included and quite interesting. There was also detailed information provided about tools, color palettes and tones, and even gets into the color wheel and mixing custom colors (in way more technical ways than I ever thought about).
The faux-turquoise earrings were probably my favorite – the steps to make them were easy and clear, and I’ll definitely be trying to make some turquoise in the near future. Other techniques taught include marbling, a faux woodgrain pattern, and mimicking hammered brass. I also learned how to do a watercolor look involving paint and clay and how to make pieces that look like agate. The author gets into textures as well, and how to easily incorporate it into your pieces to add more character and depth. There are some pro-tips included for attaching earring backs securely to your pieces and how to care for them after they’re made.
If you enjoy polymer clay and want to level up your techniques, this is a great resource. I don’t really care for jewelry, but everything I learned in this book can be used for other projects. This book is geared more towards older users of polymer clay (teenagers and older). Many thanks to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing for allowing me to read this work, which will be published on 23 May 2023. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own.
I will be adding this book to my library. My 15 year old daughter found it very easy to follow the directions to make jewelry. Has beautiful pictures and I can't wait to see what she is able to make in the future
Polymer Clay Jewelry is THE book for aspiring clay artists. I've read so many instructional books about polymer clay and none were as helpful as this one. All of the tips and information are perfectly written, and the photos are beautiful. Books in this category have a difficult time finding the right balance between information and projects, but this one got it just right. Highly recommend this to anyone interested in polymer clay for fun or to make items to sell.
I really liked this book and will definitely be making some of these earrings, along with purchasing the book for our library collection.
This book is vibrant, colorful and absolutely beautiful. As a fellow artist and clay maker myself, I can say this book is perfect for both anyone that has worked with polymer clay before, or that wants to learn the ropes of clay making.
I’ve been following Rachael for a few years on IG. Her attention to detail is impeccable, and it shows in all the work she has put into this book.
You will not only learn about the different brands of clay, color theory, what tools you need, and how to start. She also shares some of the different techniques she uses on some of her best selling items.
Thank you Rachael, for being willing to share your success with others, so they can be successful too!
This is such a pretty book! I can’t wait to try the tutorials to make my own clay jewelry. Absolutely love this

The Polymer Clay Jewelry book is an excellent addition to any young adult library non-fiction collection. The instructional book provides steps for making colorful and fun jewelry using polymer clay. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in making creative arts & crafts projects!
Polymer Clay Jewellery by Rachael Skidmore is a practical crafters new best friend.
The infographics and step by step instructions demonstrate the techniques almost as good as Rachael actually being in my living room.
Rachael goes in depth on the products available and the tools you will need to procure along with the why's, answering every question you should come up with on the way.
The detailed colour analysis pages will excite many of us and bring insight that often isn't provided in similar books.
The pages are filled with fun pops of colour that have me wanting to break into the nearest craft shop at 10:30pm, I'd say its a job well done.
I was gifted a digital copy of Polymer Clay Jewellery in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Thanks Quarto Publishing and Netgalley!
Polymer Clay Jewelry by Rachael Skidmore is truly fascinating. Though I adore wearing polymer clay earrings I was clueless regarding the level of skill and effort which goes into designing and creating them. That's now changed! The process is more involved than I expected but looks like great fun and is practical. Who doesn't appreciate handcrafted jewelry? Imagine giving it as gifts.
Topics such as safety, clay brands, tools, colour basics, conditioning, rolling, baking and attaching earring backs are explained. It's all here. Photographs and detailed instructions show every step. Most enjoyable to me was learning about adding texture using ordinary items in the home such as a food grater, using gold foil and how to create faux stone.
Whether you simply enjoy jewelry, if you are keen to learn a new skill or if you are a seasoned artist seeking inspiration, this book has your name all over it.
My sincere thank you to Quarto Publishing Group - Walter Foster and NetGalley for providing me with an early digital copy of this informative and lovely book. Though polymer clay jewelry making is probably not in my future, as a crafter and admirer my appreciation for the art has grown. What fun to see the final product and, more importantly, how to get there!
This is such a lovely book. It has clear simple instructions to make earrings with polymer clay throughout. Each chapter introduces on a new technique. The examples are all very wearable and I appreciate the chapter on how to use the bits and pieces of clay that inevitably are left over. Definitely a book to cherish
I've loved Rachael's clay creations ever since I started following her account a year ago, and this book is an excellent guide to making some of her iconic creations.
This is great, an ideal book for a starter like me. I have the clay and now I just need to use the idea’s from the book to put into practice.
Thank you NetGalley for my complimentary copy in return for my honest review.
A really lovely book with comprehensive instructions in how to work with polymer clay and produce beautiful pieces of jewellery.
This book appeals to adults, yet I would imagine it’s great for children from middle school upwards. It would be a great addition to a library.
This was a quick but helpful book for polymer clay beginners. It includes recommendations for different types of clay, the tools you might need, and how to plan your colors. There are several detailed projects that you could follow from start to finish or use as a jumping off point. There are several helpful tips sprinkled through, including how to store leftover clay. This will be a perfect book to add to my middle and high school library maker sections!
