The project of this book is an ambitious one, and Suesse has varying degrees of success in achieving his goals. To assess the idea of 'economic nationalism' and give it both weight and a history within a economic framework is undoubtedly interesting and for the most part, I found myself highly engaged with the text and the ideas he presented to support his thesis. I am however, not an economist nor a political scientist, so some of the nuances/minutiae of that was a tad dry. I would have enjoyed seeing a more interdisciplinary approach to the topic (though I suspect this opinion will not fully be agreed with), as the idea of 'economic nationalism' has been taken up by other disciplines in the past decades and I would have appreciated an integration of that discourse (or a response to). Overall though, I found this an interesting text that people with an interest in global history, political science, economics, and cultural studies will find value within. I also look forward to other academics taking up Suesse's work and/or responding to it.
