Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for this eARC. Kids love Scaredy Squirrel and this newest edition doesn’t disappoint. The longer format lends itself to older elementary students, who still love reading about this beloved character and are ready for more robust books. I’ll continue to purchase any and all Scaredy Squirrel titles! There are running jokes from earlier books and layers of humor that adults will enjoy.
4.5/5, rounded up to 5
I love Scaredy Squirrel. Scaredy is getting ready for Christmas and 3 of his friends are trying to help. Scaredy tries to be as prepared as possible: he researches and has a plan for every aspect of the holiday. On the other end of the spectrum, his friend Rash just goes for it: all of it, all the time. The other two characters provide commentary in the middle.
While this is a funny book meant to entertain, I love the camaraderie among the characters. Scaredy and his friends operate differently and still show acceptance and understanding for one another. This is a wonderful book that can help children understand that there are different ways people think and enjoy the holiday. Please read this.
I have read a few of the Scaredy Squirrel picture books and thought this was another and was delightfully surprised to find he's got a graphic novel series! Hilarious as ever, Scaredy Squirrel must cautiously plan his Christmas celebrations with the help of his friends. Got me right in the feels at the end when he opens his gift!
This is a cute little graphic novel for the Christmas season. Lots of silliness and I think children will find it fun and funny.
Loved this newest edition of Scaredy Squirrel! Getting ready for the holidays can be stressful and having a list can help....until that list isn't bring followed!
I can't wait to purchase this for some adults in my life to help them with holiday anxiety! :)
Absolutely adorable graphic novel. Scaredy Squirrel is one for those who love silly, yet careful, sort of characters. I almost see Scaredy Squirrel as a character with anxiety! What a great model kids can see in a story of a squirrel who is anxious when things don’t go his way, but figures out a way to deal with problems head on. It’s an adorable book about step-by-step tips to get ready for the big night when Santa comes to visit. It’s also a great book about friendship, where Scaredy’s friends don’t judge him for who he is, but rather, they support him. Absolutely loved the book! Thanks for the chance to review.
I am a long-time Scaredy Squirrel fan, and this book did not disappoint! Scaredy Squirrel is working on his perfect holiday prepping...which begins in July. He even hands out invitations to his holiday party in the summer. There is a checklist to stay on track, a quiz to qualify us as Scaredy Squirrel material readers, gingerbread house construction (yeah, he gets a building permit!!), and since it would be dangerous to hang stockings by a fireplace, Scaredy Squirrel sets up a cardboard version of a fireplace. The antics are as hilarious and benign as previous books in the series. Prepare for high demand. The target audience and fans will read this one any time of year.
Scaredy Squirrel's newest adventure in the form of a graphic novel will not disappoint young fans. Scaredy wants everything perfect, overly prepares, is scared he isn't prepared enough, worries what his friends may do to possibly sabotage is plans - simply following their best intentions, not on purpose of course - and tries so hard to make everything enjoyable. A laugh here, a giggle there, Scaredy Squirrel Gets Festive does not disappoint.
Scaredy Squirrel is a favorite in my classroom. We all love seeing how Scaredy tries to plan for everything only to realize that sometimes the best things cannot be planned for. I was excited to get an advanced copy of the next Scaredy Squirrel installment from Netgalley and it did not disappoint.
Scaredy wants to have the PERFECT Christmas with his friends and has to do some compromising. But the Perfect Christmas just needs the perfect friends. I look forward to sharing this book with my class next Christmas season.
What a cute Christmas book! I had no idea that there are Scaredy Squirrel series, this was my first encounter with it. The book is just adorable, super cute, and lovely. It does not look or feel like a typical graphic novel usually does, though, so I am not really sure if I would call it a graphic novel or label it as such. An interactive graphic novel maybe? But it was cute and adorable nevertheless!
Who doesn’t love a good Christmas book?? Especially one where Scaredy Squirrel is taking on the holiday in his own special and unique way! This will be another addition to my classroom library!
My 8 year old daughter loves graphic novels, and she thought this one was such a fun Christmas one! Scaredy Squirrel and his friends are preparing for Christmas by decorating the tree, making a gingerbread house, getting gifts, and spending Christmas Eve together.
The pictures are vibrant and funny, the characters are endearing, and I adore Scaredy Squirrel's lists and preparations for Christmas. We will definitely be adding a copy to our shelf this holiday season! My 6 and 8 year olds both loved it.
Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Children's for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
Another cute addition to the Scaredy Squirrel series. My preschool kids have always loved listening to Scaredy’s stories, and I believe they would love listening to his Christmas adventure. Scaredy is trying to celebrate a perfect Christmas with his friends in this story. His plans don’t go quite as planned along the way, and he learns a lesson because of this. It was such a sweet story that I enjoyed quite a bit. I hope Scaredy gets some more adventures after this. Also, I love how Mélanie uses the graphic novel format for these books.
I didn't know that Scaredy Squirrel is a series so obviously this is the first title i've ever read. The format is more like an interactive book than graphic novels because a lot of parts involving reader's participation. but that's pretty nice, definitely has festivity vibes
We LOVE Scaredy Squirrel and this one did not disappoint! The addition of friends in the graphic novels is great for kids growing up and the story is wholesome and silly!
** Thank you to Netgalley for a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.**
Another cute and festive tale from the safest squirrel around. On top of how safe Scaredy's plans were, I loved how patient and respectful his friends were of ideas they did not share.
This book is tons of fun! It's perfect for kids who have already read the other Scaredy Squirrel books but also can be read as a stand alone. The characters are funny and the words are simple to read for beginning/emerging readers.
Oh my gosh when I got the chance to review #scaredysquirrel Gets Festive by #melaniewatt I jumped with joy! I LOVED reading these books to my kids when they were younger so thank you NetGalley for the opportunity. In this new chapter book Scaredy shows you how to safely prepare for Christmas from decor to the perfect gifts for your friends. He does let a little control go as far as letting his friends help him which is outside of his comfort zone for sure. As usual illustrations, charts and checklists accompany this book so there can be no misinformation on how to safely execute your holiday plan! We even get to see a typical Scaredy plays dead moment. I hope this book means Scaredy Squirel is sticking around for more (safe) fun becaude this little OCD squirrel is my favorite!
My students will LOVE this adorable new comic addition to the Scaredy Squirrel collection! They love seeing their favorite characters celebrating holidays and I particularly like how all the friends in this book work together to make the holiday special for all of them! Adorable.
Melanie Watt's Scaredy Squirrel Gets Festive is the latest installment about our favorite anxiety-ridden creature. In this endearing holiday tale, Scaredy is preparing lists and making plans to ensure that Christmas is filled with lots of joy and not a lot of worry....which is, of course, easier said than done. Filled with hilarious dialogue and entertaining illustrations, this is a perfect addition for a classroom library or as a gift for under the (just right, termite free) tree.
