This was a great read! This graphic novel version will be a huge hit in my classroom, which will in turn lead many students to the series. The illustrations were great and exciting. This book will create many new fans!
In one word, this book is: fun! To use more words, it was a great read with colorful, animated drawings that helped capture the frenzy of the book’s plot and pacing.
I loved the conclusion, and enjoyed the references to books from different time periods. I think this is a great rec for kids around ages 8+.
I’d love to see the rest of the series as graphic novels and can see kids rereading this one to see what other clues to the escape they can find.
I received a digital copy of this book to review from NetGalley.
I am a huge fan of Mr. Lemoncello and this graphic novel does the original proud!
The art work is stunning and brings the story alive in vivid color. It was very fun to revisit this story in its new format. I'm excited to bring the graphic novel to my middle schoolers. Looking forward to introducing these characters to a new group of readers.
My library will have to order two in order to meet the demand! The original work always flies off the shelf and we have a great community of graphic novel lovers. This novel will be a great winter recess read!
I think kids 10+ would love the graphic novel format. The illustrations are great and make the storyline come alive.
You really can't go wrong with a Chris Grabenstein book or a Lemoncello book. This graphic novel version was wonderful and it felt like I was stepping into the game for the first time all over again. For students that are too intimidated by the original chapter book, this will be a good stepping stone into the world of Lemoncello.
This graphic novel adaptation of Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library is wonderful. The story story flows quickly and will keep the reader's attention. The illustrations help build the excitement for what will come next.
I've always loved this series! It's wacky, fun and subtly educational- the puzzles are so much fun for even an adult to try figuring out before moving on with the plot. This version of the beloved first book in the series is very well done. The illustrations are bright and colorful and the text is easy to read, although this version doesn't have the same charm when explaining new or difficult vocabulary. A definite purchase for both public and school libraries.
What a fun graphic novel adaptation of a lovable story! I haven't read Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library in a while, but this was refreshing reminder of what I was forgot!
Such a wonderful introduction to the Mr. Lemoncello series! I love how it reminds young readers of the magic and power a library can have. The storyline, word play on various book titles, and art make this an engaging graphic novel. This is a great way to bring in new readers to the series. I’ll be adding this to our classroom library and requesting it for the school library as well. Thank you NetGalley and Random House Children’s for the arc.
Oh my goodness what a fun read! I loved the full color pictures and all the literary references throughout the book. The puzzles were so much fun. I'm also currently reading The Inheritance Game series, so having a kids book with puzzles to solve was right up my alley. I will definitely be adding this to my classroom library and hope my students will enjoy it just as much as I did!
The comic adaptation of Chris Grabenstein’s Escape from Mr. Lemoncello’s Library is sure to be a hit among elementary school graphic novel fans. A fast paced read. Follow Kyle as he gathers a team to try to find an escape route out of the new library. Will his team be able to work together and beat Charles and his the Chiltington’s Never Lose team?

SO much fun! This will bring another whole round of students into the Lemoncello series! I can't wait to share this will my students next year! And I will definitely be continuing on with the storyline as well, now! Great writing, great illustrations.
This was such a fun graphic novel. I absolutely love this series and I'm so happy this is being turned into graphic novels. This will bring so many more readers into this world of Mr. Lemoncello and it's such a fun, well rounded series that I can't wait to purchase for my kiddos.
Kyle learns that Luigi Lemoncello, the famous game maker, has designed the new library for the town. Kyle wins a spot for the overnight at the library. Little does he know he must solve his way out of the library, with the help of his teammates.
This is a great graphic novel to a favorite book! This graphic novel is in color! I really enjoyed the original and this one was just as good!
Mr. Lemoncello is next up in the wave of graphic novel adaptations, and this one knocks it out of the park!
So many GN adaptations fall short because they struggle to nail the spirit of the original with far fewer words and really justify being a graphic novel based on an extremely popular original work.
Not so with Lemoncello - the humor of the original is just as vibrant here, but Douglas Holgate works in plenty of visual gags to bring the world of Mr. Lemoncello into the modern day.
My library has trouble keeping graphic novel adaptations in stock - Babysitters Club and I Survived in particular spend, at most, one class period on the shelf before they're back at the circulation desk with a new reader. Douglas Holgate's lush illustrations of the zany and unpredictable world Chris Grabenstein created looks like it'll be the same way, and I'll be joining my students in asking, "When is Book 2 coming out?!?!?" before long.
Yes, I judge a book by its cover. I really like the cover. I also enjoyed the story. The graphic novel of it caught my attention. The book is silly and funny and kind of all over the place, but in a weird way. I like how the kids get in a competition and get to spend a night in the library. (Who wouldn't want to spend a night in the library?) The book involves children problem solving, competing, and reading. Those are important things for kids to learn to do. I like the idea of the book, because that is something a teacher or school librarian could incorporate in the curriculum.
The way the author incorporates the class clown, with the rich kid, with the smart kid and others is enjoyable also. It shows that all are equal and can have fun in a library. I have already recommended this book to our school librarian and some teachers.
Thank you to #NetGalley, Chris Grabenstein and the publisher of the book for the eARC copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
Kyle and eleven other kids are the lucky winners of a first hand experience to see the new library built by the eccentric Mr. Lemoncello! The library is full of games, new electronics and of course books! Once the lock-in is over though, the doors remain locked for Kyle and the other kids. They now have to solve a series of puzzles and clues to get out and win Mr. Lemoncello's biggest prize ever!
I loved the original Mr. Lemoncello's library and the graphic novel is even better. The pictures really make the story come to life. Readers will not be disappointed.
For those who enjoyed the original "Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library" and those who enjoy graphic novels, this adaptation will be a winner. Each character is expertly captured and depicted in the artwork and shortened speech and thought bubbles characteristic of the graphic novel format. The anticipation of each game is just so exciting, it is hard to put the book down. Plan a chunk of reading time so you don't have to battle yourself to put down the story and complete needed tasks.
A super fun graphic novel for MG readers! This book will appeal to ALL MG readers, but especially those who have read the Mr. Lemoncello series. Readers will see Mr. Lemoncello's world come to life before their eyes. They'll love seeing the library, the kids, the rebus puzzles, and the adventures the kids face. They'll see how kids manage friendships within a competition, and how they work together to solve problems. I love all the nods to literature embedded within the books. Adults will also enjoy this element of the story - a perfect book for parents to read with their kids!
