I really enjoy this book series and I found the graphic novel version to be so much fun. It celebrates teamwork, games, education, and the library system. There are puzzles that the reader can try to solve alongside the characters. I highly recommend it for middle grade readers.
Escape from Mr. Lemoncello’s Library is a novel that I have often recommended to readers in my elementary school library. A graphic novel of this imaginative story works wonderfully. The story has a dozen 12 years olds getting to spend the weekend in a brand new library funded by Mr. Lemoncello. The kids are challenged to work through clues that take them through many sections of the library. The challenge is to find a way out by not using the doors.
The graphics are well done and I commend the author for making reading a huge part of the novel. (Not just graphics showing the story.) I can easily see the whole series being done this way. I think this will be enjoyable for readers 8 and up. And I will look forward to it adding it to my library. Thank you to Netgalley and Random House Children’s, Random House Graphic for the temporary ARC and I’m leaving a voluntary review.
Thank you @Random House Children's for the ARC. I remember reading this book when it came out and devouring it. I did the same with this graphic novel. The pictures are amazing, so real and bright. The story is amazing. I Wish this library was real. 5 Stars
The graphic novel was amazing! It is one my elementary students will grab for and put holds on- such a great story with fabulous illustrations!
I received an ARC of this book courtesy of NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.
In Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library Kyle Keely, an extremely competitive game fanatic is one of 12 12-year-olds that wins a chance at a lock-in at the brand new town library. The library is massive, innovative, and tricked out to the max! The kids soon find out that the lock-in is going on for longer than expected and the greatest game has just started... trying to Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library!
I'm going to start this out by saying that while I have seen this book on the shelf at my library many times (the full version, not the graphic novel), I have never actually read it. That is going to change! This book was not only visually appealing and full of puzzles that it gave you a chance to solve, but it was full of so many references to other great books! The character interactions were very well done and I appreciate the author encouraging teamwork and forgiveness. The pacing of the graphic novel was spot on and the artwork was wonderfully detailed.
I cannot wait to get this book added to our school library!
An awesome graphic novel version of this book that’s perfect for fans of Willy Wonka. The artwork was great for MG readers too! Out 11/14!
As a fan of Lemoncello, this book didn’t disappoint. I love having this graphic option for my students that prefer to read a book with pictures. Everyone needs this on their shelves.
Thank you Netgalley for an arc of Escape from Mr. Lemoncello’s Library..
What a treat to get to see a favorite book come to life in an illustrated graphic novel! I've loved the Mr. Lemoncello series for almost ten years and it's such a joy to share them with my students and see their excitement and curiosity grow. So many of them are avid graphic novel lovers, that I know they will be so excited to get this in their hands! It was so great to see a story that has existed in my mind for so long play out with such detailed illustrations. Thank you, NetGalley, for the ARC!
My son read this title. He said that the book was "fun". He liked the game making/playing element including in the plot.
He had not previously read the full chapter book version of Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library.
He stated that he had to go back and reread some of the passages about history. He felt that the age group of the book was around 12+.
He also enjoyed the Mysterious Benedict Society and found them to be of a similar vein. He is looking forward to now reading the full unabridged version of Mr. Lemoncello.
Thank you NetGalley and Random House for the chance you gave our family to preview this book!
I love the original Escape From Mr Lemoncello’s library, but this one is even better. There is a lot of information in the book. The pictures make the story easier to understand and follow. I love all the book references.
