This book was a long time coming. It is the last book in the American Royals series. As much as I wanted to read this, I didn't want it to ever end. Katharine McGee writes such great characters that you grow to love. I love books that focus on the female characters. These four main girls were all so different, but how their stories intertwine This book was a perfect ending to all their stories. Life keeps going and the story of these women will live on. I hope in years to come the author comes back to these characters and gives us updates about how they are doing and what new things they get into.

Thank you NetGalley for the advance copy of this book.

I can't begin to describe how happy I was with the conclusion to the American Royals series. Since the first installment, I have been a fan. I love how the author can intertwine so many characters while not making it feel forced.
This final installment left me satisfied and was honestly my favorite of the series. There were ups and downs but everything wrapped up well by the end.

This was a great way to end the series! I loved the way Beatrice had to find her way through her role again. I loved Samantha's journey to enjoy a low-profile life away from her high-profile family. I loved that Nina could finally take time away from the spotlight she was in with Samantha and Jefferson. I loved how Daphne eventually found who and what she wanted. I also just love Jefferson. <3

The Washington family always has some sort of drama following them. This book does a great job at continuing their story from previous books in the series. I really appreciated how each character really come into their own in this book. If we were to have a queen of the United States I would hope it would be someone like Beatrice.

This was a great end to a fabulous series. I will definitely recommend this to my students, especially those that enjoy teen drama shows. I never knew where we would go on this journey and like the author kept surprising me

I love these books, and each one gets better and more complex. I wish this could be made into a tv show!

I really enjoyed this book. I wish there was a little more closure for the characters at the end. I feel as though there was so much invested in their character development that they deserved that. That being said, the characters are so young and I think that maybe all of them reaching a 'happily ever after' is unrealistic, particularly in a YA book. That aside, this was a great story and we see all of the siblings starting to come into their own, as well as the other primary characters.

This is an absolutely fantastic conclusion to the American Royals series! Katharine McGee perfectly wrapped up the story lines while leaving some openings for the imagination. I can't imagine any of the girls' stories concluding in any other way. A must purchase when the first volumes in the series are popular.

This was a fabulous way to wrap up a series! I’ve been following this series since the first book was released, and have long since been trying to figure out the best way for this to series to tie up all the loose ends for all of the characters!

I was concerned that this book would rush the ending to get through all of the characters stories, but I feel like we got to spend the right amount of time with each character individually and as a group. The family dynamics between the Washington children is so relatable, and this felt like the first book in this series where they all really were on the same page with each other. I felt proud of each of them for how much they have grown throughout this series. I love that we get to see more of some of the side characters, and particularly appreciate the resolutions for both Nina and Daphne.

While the series is finished I can only hope that we get some more novellas of life after the epilogue!

As the final entry in the ‘American Royals’ series, ‘Reign’ brings us to the end of a year in the life of America's royal family. We've followed them closely from one December to the next, with detailed glimpses of the June before and the June after. We've learned a lot about their lives prior to when the narration begins, and we have detailed accounts of the June prior to this series beginning, the fateful night of the Washington twins high school graduation party where so much changed. The epilogue gives us a glimpse of where our beloved characters end up the following June, and provides hints of where they're heading.

But it's that year in the life of the Washington royal family that we follow closely. The year that so much changes for each of our narrating ladies, and for the royal family at large.

I really enjoyed this fourth and final installment in the ‘American Royals’ series! It was great to be back with these characters and to watch (even more) drama, secrets, and young romances unfold. My favorite parts were the growth for so many of these beloved characters; both the narrating ladies and the gentlemen in their inner circle.

Though we follow the same four ladies as narrators, readers also get to spend quite a lot of time with Prince Jefferson in this book, and that might be my absolute favorite part of ‘Reign’ – that Prince Jefferson is on the page nearly as much as any of the narrators, and that we get to watch him grow and mature, too.

Least enjoyable was witnessing the disappearance of the amazing confidence and self-esteem that Beatrice had attained over the last three books. Functionally, Beatrice ends up exactly where she would have, if she had not suffered retrograde amnesia following a car accident. But she’s not the same; she lacks the self-esteem that came with slowly growing and maturing as she learned to govern on her own, and all the nuances of her relationship, of falling for Teddy over time – all of that is just simply gone.

The American royal family is falling apart. Queen Beatrice is in a coma and her brother is regent in her place. Princess Samantha has run away, and no one knows where she is. Many in America liked this arrangement, they wanted a king on the throne anyway. Others are hoping this is just temporary … they believe that Beatrice will wake up and retake her place on the throne. What will happen to the royal family now?

Reign is the fourth and final book in the American Royals series. The story is told in alternating voices so readers will have a very wide view of things that are going on. Most of the issues are presented in the first few chapters and the the story steamrolls its way without much effort. I know I had my pick for who would end up on the throne, yet readers will need to make their own choice, and either be happy or disappointed with the results. A strong conclusion to a fun series.

4.5 stars
As a high school Social Studies teacher - US History and Government - I have thoroughly enjoyed this series. I am starting a book club at my school so that we can read the first installment. I was thrilled to receive this digital ARC and so sad when I saw in the acknowledgments that it's the last in the series! Noooooo! I need more Beatrice, Jeff, Sam, Daphne, Nina, and Ethan! There were still too many unanswered questions at the end! Maybe a spin-off, please!

Thank you so much, NetGalley and Random House Children's for the opportunity to read this in return an honest review.

I absolutely love this book; it did not disappoint. I think the author did a great job wrapping up the series. This is the first time I felt fully satisfied and happy with how a series has ended.
Now on to the book itself.
-Writing: I thought the writing was great; it really pulled me in and made me feel like I was there with the characters. It was funny, sad, and shocking at times.
-Characters: I loved Beatrice, Sam, Nina, and Daphne all for different reasons. I loved how each character grew from beginning to end, for the most part. I did feel like Beatrice's character development was undone a bit with this final installment.
-Intrigue: I could not put this book down. It was always one more chapter. I was so engrossed that I just need to know what was going to happen next.

I can't put this book in my curriculum this school year as my district has already selected our books for the year, but I will be purchasing a couple of copies for my classroom library.

American Royals IV: Reign was a great ending to the American Royals series. The novel opens where American Royals III left off: Beatrice is in a coma, Samantha is still missing, and now Jeff, the spare, has had to step into rule. Nina and Daphne are still at odds over Jefferson. I thought this was a great ending to the series.

A delightful end to the series, AMERICAN ROYALS IV: REIGN by Katharine McGee closes out the fulfilling character arcs of Daphne, Nina, Sam, and Beatrice with resolve and joy. These characters’ internal conflicts kept me faithfully returning to the world of a monarchical America for four books. McGee gave these characters happy endings that somehow (even in the deliciously painted world of a Washington DC royal court) weren’t cliche. All the characters — royal and royal-adjacent — got what they wanted, even and especially if they started off the series not knowing what they wanted in the first place or thinking they wanted something that actually wasn’t the best for them. An excellent metaphor for life…I found myself smiling with pride for what these four strong female protagonists discovered along the way, especially in this final satisfying ending.

While I enjoyed being back with these characters, especially after the Rivals ending, this was probably the weakest of the series. The twists felt more predictable and the storylines generally more repetitive and less endearing. Nina’s storyline was particularly repetitive from previous books, and she had the least amount of growth and the most unsatisfying ending. The endings of our other POV characters (besides the amnesia cliche) were fitting and fun to see happen.

I've been a big fan of the American Royals series since it debuted, so what a TREAT to receive an advanced copy of the final book - Reign, out on August 29!! And y'all: It was an excellent ending to such an enjoyable series!!

The best news is that if you haven't yet dug in, you have a month to meet Princesses Beatrice and Samantha and Prince Jeffrey Washington - the American Royal family - as well as Nina, Princess Samantha's longtime bestie and Daphne, Prince Jeffrey's girlfriend who has her sights on one day becoming a royal herself.

I don't want to spoil anyone (especially if you aren't caught up!) but I found it to be a most satisfying conclusion. Series are HARD, and in my opinion, the most difficult part is to nail the ending. And yet, Katharine McGee did it so well! I could not put this down, and while I will miss these characters, I am so grateful for these stories.

Big thanks to Random House and NetGalley for the ARC that allowed me to enjoy this one early!!! Add it to your preorder and library lists now!

I will be posting this to my bookstagram @scottonreads, retail sites and goodreads.

Finally! The closure that fans have been desperate for!

McGee writes a beautifully layered drama, building and building brick by brick until all of a sudden you’re in the thick of it. This book is the culmination of the all the building drama from the previous three novels, and McGee delivers.

Without providing spoilers, I truly believe that every single character ends up where they are supposed to be. There’s some small pieces of ambiguity on what happens next, but that could be on purpose… (leaving threads open for a future spin off, I hope?).

I also loved the new characters that were introduced this go around. While I worried about integrating those new people, it was done so seamlessly that it felt organic and necessary. I will always recommend this series and I’m so glad for the closure this book delivers.

Underwhelming end to a series I loved. I felt this entire book was rushed, and the ending for this series should have taken place over two books.
