If only this series would go on forever. The same characters run into the same problems, but there was some great depth and growth for them. I did feel that this book focused more on the characters than the world building, which has its positives and negatives. Overall, another great addition to the American Royals series!
the american royals series is one of my favorite ya series because it is just so fun. i have the best time reading these books, and the fourth and final book in the series, reign, is no exception. i loved reading about the growth that all four of our main characters, beatrice, sam, nina, and daphne, go through not only in the series, but in this final book as well. to me, the series wrapped up perfectly, and i am sad to see it end. i think if you've enjoyed the other books in the series you'll be very happy with how it ends.
This is the PERFECT resolution to the series! I LOVE Katharine McGee. My best friend and I have been to numerous meet and greets on the book tours for American Royals series and the The Thousandth Floor series. McGee's writing multiple points of views was excellence. I can honestly say that I loved every ending for each character. The ending is not my favorite of the series but it was exactly what it needed.
This book gave me exactly what I needed: CLOSURE! It is a definite must read of this year! Big thanks to #NetGalley for allowing me to read this book before it is released.
This series never disappoints. It’s a teen soap opera in a book and delivers on drama. There are a lot of characters to keep track of, but I will always reach for the next in the series.
For those not familiar, this is the conclusion of the American Royals series, a series devoted to answer the "what if" question of American History: What if George Washington became King of the United States, instead of President?
In the series we follow his modern-day descendants. We find all the familiar technology and lifestyles that we are accustomed to seeing today. The big differences are the subtle notes and references to history: certain founding fathers became American Nobility, many countries that we now know to be democractic followed America's example and instituted their own monarchy, all notes and details that were very enjoyable to this reader. It just made it fun.
Besides all of that, the book follows the lives of the royal family, and some of those nearest and dearest to them. In this book you find celebrity, drama, romance, bringing all of the events from the previous book to a stunning conclusion.
While I'm sad to see the series end, I'm glad it did. Not sure what more you could do without dragging it out. And not everything ends up neat and tidy, even though there are plenty of happily ever afters to go around.
The conclusion to this series was exactly what was needed. McGee left us with so many cliffhangers so many times that I thought the Epilogue was the best apology there was. It was great to see that characters like Nina and Daphne were making their own way and navigating relationships as well but that they were discovering themselves. I liked Sam's twist of events even if it didn't always move as swiftly as I thought it could have. I almost did not stick with this series but I am so glad I did because this conclusion was satisfying and exactly what was needed.
What a great ending to this series! I’m sad that it’s over!
I started this series before I retired as a high school librarian, and it might be the only YA novel series that I really wanted to finish!
Well done!
I loved this series! It was such an interesting premise and it really worked. As much as I enjoyed this installment, I am disappointed to hear that this is the end of the series. I feel as though we could hear a lot more about each of these characters. Id LOVE to hear what happens in the US under a woman ruler. I am crossing my fingers that Katharine McGee has a change of heart. This was a fun series and I think readers of all ages would enjoy.
Is this really the end? It can't be! Reign delivered in all the same ways its previous counterparts have. I loved the shifting narrators and I thought the story moved quickly. Yes, parts of it were a little cliche and predictable, but that's what made it fun! I will admit I didn't see one of the largest surprises coming and was genuinely delighted by it. Thanks to Netgalley and Random House for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest opinion.
Objectively this might be the weakest entry... at least in terms of my personal enjoyment... But I think that this series has always delivered on the plot twists and the super interconnected nature of these women's lives. It's truly my go to series for melodrama and I'll forever be thankful that it exists.
The book definitely deals with the implications of the last book's ending, but the entire time it very much feels like we are moving toward a conclusion. It's like when you're watching the season finale of a show that was announced as ending and so the last couple of episodes the old favorites get brought back and get a cameo so they can be part of the send off. While there are certainly a few new threads introduced a lot of time is spent making sure that we are addressing what was already left dangling in true American Royals fashion; with schemes galore.
Of all the books I read in a year this series continues to be the one that feels just screaming for adaptation. Though the fact that all the books technically take place over the course of roughly a year could toss a wrinkle in the production, but... I'm willing to overlook that particular detail if the writers room is. It's really no different than a lot of epic fantasy that gets adapted...
Either way, this series always feels like coming home, and while the last two installments served as something of a surprise addition, this feels like a more definite conclusion. Though in a world like this I think that the door is always open, particularly thanks to some events in the epilogue.
So no, it might not be the strongest book in the series, but it was still delivering me exactly what I look for in this series and if you haven't already picked it up and are looking for a fun good time then look no further than this series.
The final installment in this series is everything fans of American Royals have been waiting for! This was the perfect ending and gave us answers we’ve been waiting for since book one. I loved Reign, probably my second favorite in the series after the first one. If you loved the original, this is a very satisfying must-read! It ties up old storylines with characters that have stalled a little in books 2 and 3 and gives fans a strong conclusion. This series has been such a fun treat and I’ll miss it!
This was a very busy book! I couldn't quit reading--I could hardly take a breath. So much happened in this last book of the series and all of it is so mesmerizing. Even in this last installment, Ms. McGee introduces the reader to a brand new exciting character that I think is now my favorite male character. And I never thought I would say this, but I ended up liking Daphne--she ended up being one of my favorite female characters--good writing Ms. McGee--I absolutely loved her story line. Somehow with all that happened this series of books comes to a satisfying and complete conclusion, I will miss Queen Bea and company!
I LOVE this series! I am a bit fascinated with pop culture and probably read just a little too much gossip (yes, I know the problems behind paparazzi, but I also get sucked in!), this series has a gossip vibe, and I just wanted to know everything about all of the characters! I gobbled up all 4 of the books in this series, and I highly recommend them for some drama reads. This finale is perfection too, so you will not be disappointed.
Katherine McGee can do no wrong, and the American Royals series is proof perfect of that. This iteration, Reign, continues a 4- and 5-start series that only continues compounding drama and intrigue.
Okay, I love everything Katherine McGee does. This is an excellent conclusion to the American Royals series!!! (And I still want more… please?!)
i LOVED this book so much. it was a fantastic way to wrap up an amazing series. i absolutely will be adding this to my classroom library and recommending it to my students.
This is a story about royalty.
I love this series & I’m sad that it’s over- books with an altered historical element are almost always a win for me. These books feel particularly interesting, given the American preoccupation with Royalty- can you imagine if we had our own? Plus, more so than the initial entries this conclusion explored love, sacrifice, and the consequences of power on relational dynamics…. Heavy is the head that wears the crown!
Thank you so much @netgalley & Random House Books for Young Readers for the eArc!
What if America had royalty? What if the leader of our nation was a Queen? This series gives us all of these things and more! The latest and last installment of American Royals does not disappoint. The novel begins with Queen Beatrice in a coma while Prince Jefferson is ruling the country due to Princess Samantha absconding with her boyfriend, Lord Marshall. It's a wild ride and when Queen Beatrice finally wakes up she's forgotten much of the last year, like her friendship with a certain French Princess and even her own engagement! She must work quickly to regain her memories, or figure out creative ways to handle them as members of the government try to overthrow her! All of our favorite characters are out in full force with their despicably delicious flaws that give this series a lot of depth. If you need an escape, this book, and the ones before it will transport you to another world that you will want to stay in!
Always so happy to see another entry in this series. My 16yo loved it and now my 14yo is starting with book 1. Thank you NetGalley!
Absolutely loved this series and wish there were more books like it. It’s light and fun but really smart. History fans will appreciate some US history knowledge but romance readers will adore the soapy will they/won’t they drama.
