I really liked this. It had a bit of a slow start but the chemistry was there from the beginning. I liked seeing him slowly open up to her and realize that he can love again. And Lily is the cutest thing ever and I love that she's going to have a mom.
I received an arc through netgalley.
She's looking for family, he's taking his anger out on her...
Audrey just found out she has a wealthy family in Lake Como, Italy. She's excited and nervous to meet them but is determined to make them love her. She was thrown to the wolves that are the Funaro family.
Gabriel is a total jerk to Audrey. He is so negative toward her and the entire Funaro family, that his deceased, drug addict wife was part of. To say he has ISSUES is an understatement. He's a talented artist, as is Audrey. He does have a cute daughter.
It was hard to get into the book, as Gabriel treated Audrey with such contention, that it was hard to go from that to their affair, which happened pretty quickly. I did really like Audrey, who was smarter, kinder and tougher than Gabriel and the Funaro's put togther. She totally shone, everyone else, not so much.
Audrey travels to a beautiful lakeside setting in Italy to meet her long-lost family. There, she meets Gabriel, a brooding artist and single dad. He agrees to mentor her, but he doesn't trust her family. Will their secret fling turn into a lifetime of love?
This is a romantic story with a strong focus on the two main characters. I enjoyed the way Gabriel helped Audrey grow as an artist, and how she helped him come to terms with his wife's death. There were also some cute scenes with his daughter.
Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.
After the loss of her beloved paternal grandmother, Audrey is thrilled to connect with her mother’s estranged family. Dismayed that his young daughter becomes immediately enamored of her new aunt, Gabriel expects Audrey to follow the same rabbit hole of addiction that claimed his wife, her half-sister. When he agrees to serve as Audrey’s art mentor, he can’t resist his growing attraction.
I liked how Audrey and Gabriel connected through their mutual love of art. My favorite scenes were of the couple either creating or viewing artworks together as well as those scenes that featured Gabriel’s little girl. Audrey’s maternal grandmother, the fairy godmother to Audrey’s Cinderella, was a fascinating character, particularly as seen through perspectives of both the hero and the heroine. Lake Como made a wonderful romantic setting.
Audrey made a great heroine. She’s a strong woman, but also a kind person and a talented artist, who spent most of her life putting others’ needs before her own. Gabriel made a good match for her, as she provided a fresh perspective for his art and for his relationship with his in laws.
