In typical Delores Fossen style there's mystery, suspense, murder and romance afoot! Hanna and Jesse had a one night stand resulting in pregnancy and now Hanna and their son Evan are in danger.
As Jesse works diligently to protect the family he loves, many outside forces intervene. Can he keep the woman he's grown to love and his son safe from a dangerous militia group? As he works against time to figure out who can be trusted and who's out to get them , the plot thickens.
Although part of a series enough back history is provided for the story to make sense . I did receive a free ARC eBook from Net Galley and the publisher. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is a Second Chance Romantic Suspense, and this is the first book in the Silver Creek Lawmen: Second Generation series. This is a fast paced action packed story with great characters that I really enjoyed getting to know. I loved all the suspense and action in this book. I loved the connection that the main characters had. Great Read. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Harlequin Intrigue) or author (Delores Fossen) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.
After being shot Hanna lost her memory and almost nearly died as well as her unborn child. She doesn't remember much of lawman Jesse the baby's father. She has no clear memory of their relationship so she allows the relationship between father and child but she's staying out of it. But things seem amiss when it seems like so much targeting her and now they need to figure out why and who is after her.
I really enjoyed reading this I actually found it a very quick read because I was hooked till the very end. I enjoyed getting to know the characters and seeing the part they had to play throughout this book. I enjoyed the suspense throughout the book and was curious to see who was behind everything and why. I really like that this was a really fast paced book with enough things going on that you want to stick around to figuring out what is going on and there's enough things here and there that you can make your own guesses and I was definitely wrong on who I thought it was. Overall it was a fun read if you like mystery suspense novels you might like this.
Targeted in Silver Creek by Delores Fossen, book one in the Silver Creek Lawmen: Second Generation series, is an edge of your seat, wild, suspenseful ride from start to finish. There's plenty of action, suspense and a second chance romance to enjoy. Hanna Kendrick has lost her memory after being shot in the head. Unfortunately she doesn't remember Jesse Ryland, a Silver Creek lawman and the father of her baby. There's a militia group running guns and drugs in the Silver Creek area, and all the lawmen in Silver Creek, have been working to round up the members to pay for their crimes. Specifically, they are looking for the person pulling the strings of the group and the man who shot Hanna. Jesse won't give up until this person has been brought to justice, especially since the militia threats impact Hanna and baby Evan, Hanna's and Jesse's six-month-old son. Jessie is determined to protect Jesse and Evan and has never made it a secret that he's in love with Hanna; even if Hanna is unable to voice her feelings for Jesse, despite knowing she has them. Together, Jesse and Hanna protect their infant son and with the help of the Silver Creek lawmen uncover the brains behind the operation; putting an end to their reign.
Ms. Fossen did an excellent job keeping her readers on their toes, including red herrings, causing me to wrongly guess who was behind the militia group and boy was I surprised when I found out. I loved Jesse’s protectiveness toward Hanna and their son, and that they finally get their HEA. I highly recommend Targeted in Silver Creek to other readers, especially those who love romantic suspense or crime dramas.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Terrific start to the new series. Bonus points, too, for this being a next-generation series. I love seeing the characters from the first series (Grayson is ready to retire!) and catching up with their lives. It's great to see their kids continue the law enforcement family tradition.
Jesse is the adopted son of Boone Ryland and has been a deputy with the Silver Creek Sheriff's Department for eight years. The newest challenge for the department is apprehending escaped prisoner Bull Freeman, murderer and member of a terrorist militia. This manhunt is personal for Jesse because Bull shot Jesse's ex and nearly killed her and their unborn son. Hanna survived, but her memories of the time before the shooting are gone - including her night with Jesse. Jesse spends as much time as Hanna will allow with their son and hopes she will eventually see him as more than Evan's father.
Hanna is a strong woman, independent and self-sufficient. She walks a careful line between her body's memories of Jesse and the fact that she no longer knows him. Part of the problem is that her mother has a grudge against the Rylands and does her best to poison Hanna's mind against him. But Hanna's instincts tell her she can trust him, which is a good thing when she learns of Bull's escape. Jesse moves into her house to provide around-the-clock protection until Bull is recaptured.
The suspense of the story is outstanding and full of twists. Someone is out to get Hanna, and suspicion immediately falls on Bull, who supposedly wants to ensure Hanna never remembers what happened that day. Matters take an unexpected turn when Bull contacts Jesse to tell him they all are in danger, and he's about to blow the militia case wide open. Can Bull's bombshell declaration be trusted? As Jesse, Hanna, and Evan hole up in Hanna's house, with plenty of backup from the rest of the department and Jesse's family, steadily intensifying attacks bring other suspects to light. Is the ATF agent, Shaw, on the up and up, or does he have a hidden agenda? Is Bull's sister, Marlene, an innocent victim, or does she know more than she's telling? Even Hanna's mom acts suspiciously.
I was glued to the pages from start to finish as I tried to decide who the real bad guy was. The author does an outstanding job of providing logical motivations and actions and enough doubt to keep me guessing to the end. The final confrontation was a nail-biter and kept me on the edge of my seat as Jesse and Hanna faced off with the person pulling the strings of the militia. The showdown was intense, and the teamwork of Jesse, Hanna, and the other law enforcement ensured a successful outcome.
I enjoyed watching the relationship between Jesse and Hanna develop. We learn early on that their night together was supposed to be a one-and-done, as neither was interested in anything permanent. But a birth control failure resulted in Hanna becoming pregnant. Despite interference from her mother, Hanna keeps Jesse in the loop about her pregnancy. Hanna was in the wrong place at the wrong time, resulting in her injury and subsequent memory loss. That loss has made Hanna wary, but watching Jesse interact with Evan convinces her he is a good man. While Jesse has clearly fallen in love with Hanna, she continues to keep him at arm's length. Jesse doesn't realize that Hanna's attraction to him continues to grow, though she is hesitant to do anything about it. Because they are forced into 24/7 togetherness, Hanna can work through the fears that hold her back. I especially enjoyed the flashes of returning memory and their effect on her feelings for Jesse. I loved the ending and seeing them find their way together at last.
I'm looking forward to the rest of the series, getting to know more of this generation of Rylands, and seeing more of the original ones.
Targeted in Silver Creek (Silver Creek Lawmen, Second Generation book 1) by seasoned author Delores Fossen, begins with Deputy Jesse Ryland, one of the Silver Creek Ranch Rylands, hold up in Hanna Kedrick’s ranch house protecting Hanna and their son Evan. Hanna has no recollection of anything prior to being shot 6 months earlier, but Jesse remembers everything and will give everything to protect her and Evan.
Bull Freeman, thought to be a ruthless killer and high up in the militia, has escaped prison and has been reported to be out to make sure Hanna doesn’t remember what happened the night she was shot. When Bull calls Jesse directly to say they all have targets on their backs and that he is set to blow the militia case wide open, the story takes another turn. Over several tense days, and with visits from Jesse’s family, Hanna’s mother Isabel, Bull’s sister Marlene, and a suspect ATF agent, the danger escalates until the intense conclusion.
This is an interesting story of smoke and mirrors as under cover agents, area deputies, and the head of the subversive militia collide. With page turning moments and intense storylines, I did enjoy this book and do recommend it.
Non-stop action for Hanna Kendrick who is still recovering from being shot in the head while she was pregnant. Six months later her baby boy, Evan, is healthy and thriving, but she has been left with amnesia. The man who shot her is dead and Deputy Jesse Ryland, the father of her baby, is searching for the other man who was involved. The man is believed to be a member of a militia group that is active in the area. Jesse, and his extensive law enforcement family, needs to find him as well as the leader of the militia. Hanna’s mother hates the Ryland family, as they arrested Hanna’s father, and she continues to try to keep her away from Jesse. When the militia uses everything imaginable to viciously attack Hanna’s home, will Jesse and the entire Ryland family be able to thwart the attack and keep her and Evan safe? Will Hanna finally recall who else was there the day she was shot and why that someone wants her dead? I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. This book is a great mix of romance and intriguing suspense. Jesse is worthy of the hero label. He is all about protecting people in his job as Deputy, but now all his protective instincts and skills are now being used to protect the two most important people in his life, Hanna and their infant son. She may not remember anything from her life before six months ago, but he does and he hopes one day he can convince her to give him a chance to be more than just their son’s father. Now, the man involved in her shooting has escaped and Jesse will do anything and everything to keep her and their son safe, including taking up residence in her house. Thankfully, he has a family full of various law enforcement officers to provide backup and extra security.
Hanna is no shrinking violet. She may not remember her past, but her body remembers Jesse and her head tells her that she should trust him. His interactions with their son has shown her that he is a good man despite the warnings her mother keeps issuing. She actually trusts him more than the woman who calls herself her mother. Her independence and self-sufficiency are important to her, and her mother keeps trying to make her dependent on her. Hanna readily accepts Jesse’s protection when she hears that the man involved in her shooting has escaped. Both her head and her heart know that Jesse would give his life to protect her and their baby.
As their story plays out, both Jesse and Hanna discover the truth of what happened the night of the shooting, who was involved, and the reasons it happened. Was she in the wrong place at the wrong time or the real target? Who can they trust? The answers aren’t as obvious as they had hoped and the attacks on their safety keep coming. One thing becomes clear to them both. If they survive this situation, they will fight for a future together.
I received an ARC of this book via NetGalley and I am voluntarily leaving this honest review.
Whew! What a breathtaking ride!
Jesse and Hanna share a six-month-old son, but they're not together, mostly because right before Evan was born Hanna was shot and was left with significant memory loss, including her relationship with Jesse. Now, the man who was arrested for shooting her has escaped from jail, and as a local deputy, Jesse is on the case.
As with all of this author's romantic suspense tales, there's always so much more to the story than what's initially apparent. This is a complex whodunit, filled with secrets, betrayals, and twists that come out of practically nowhere, but it all makes sense once all the facts are laid bare.
Throughout it all, the soul-deep connection between Jesse and Hanna becomes so apparent that they can no longer ignore it. I really loved how the romance was developed, how Hanna learned to trust her instincts when her memory failed her, and how her heart felt safe enough to fall in love again despite all the bullets constantly firing around her.
Ms. Fossen has delivered another stellar romantic suspense story and I'm once again in awe of her ability to draw the reader in with compelling characters and edge-of-your-seat action. If you love damsels in distress being rescued by their own personal heroes, this is the author for you. I highly recommend this as one of her best. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Hanna survived a shooting and her son with Jesse Ryland survived. Hanna has no past memories; and Jesse is trying to get her to understand he is in love with her. The shooter has escaped from prison and Hanna is in serious trouble. It seems there is a lot of players in this story and who is really in charge of the local militia.
Hanna's mother hates the Ryland family and a local woman seems to be a suspect along with a local ATF agent. Great plot and story I guess the wrong bad guy.
TARGETED IN SILVER CREEK is part of the Silver Creek lawmen, second generation series. Totally stands on its own but still a notable part of a terrific series by Delores Fossen.
TARGETED IN SILVER CREEK is an action-packed mini drama filled to the brim with a host of certifiable intriguing characters who seem to switch places throughout the book. Armchair detectives will get their share of challenges with this batch of folk that candidly easily switch from victim to culprit. There are even some moments when you begin to suspect about everyone. That is designed by Delores Fossen to keep you on your toes.
As in all this series there are plenty of facts and circumstances as well as relationships to uncover. I had my eye on a few candidates for the head of the bad guys, but I missed the boat entirely.
Small town with a munition militia in their midst. Jesse Ryland and much of his brood are lawmen or retired lawmen. They have been working diligently trying to ferret out the leader of this dangerous group. The list of suspects was exponentially huge and ever changing. And now the danger comes homes and hits Jesse on a very personal level.
Jesse has a young baby Evan whom he fathered during a short fling with Hanna. There is some bad blood between the Ryland and Kendrick families. And Hanna’s mother is hell bent to keep Jesse away from her daughter and grandson.
Delores Fossen does an amazing job of supplying just the right amount of intel to keep you in on the hunt for the militia group leader, but she also provides insight into the personal lives and relationships. Remember Silver Creek is a small town, and the folk are close.
This story is the first in the author’s new series about the Silver Creek Lawmen. This time, the story belongs to lawman Jesse Ryland, whose widowed mom married into the Ryland family and gave him and his mom a new life.
Hannah Hendrick is Jesse’s ex and mom of his young son, Ethan. Shortly after finding out she was pregnant, Hannah was not only shot but also developed amnesia. Having no recollection of how she got shot or why, her recent past and therefore, Jesse.
While determined to keep a connection to his son and Hannah by visiting them frequently, it becomes evident that someone is determined to harm Hannah. Is it because they believe that she knows something that could get the ones involved in the shooting in trouble once she remembers? Is the local militia involved? Are some individuals friends or foes?
As the danger intensifies, so do the feelings between Ethan and Hannah. But first, they must survive before they take things further along.
While the story was engaging and filled with whodunit, at times this reader felt there was too much going on. Readers get a glimpse of the main characters personalities, but not enough to really get to know them.
That said, though it was more of a 3.5 stars, the dedication of the author and the prospect of more stories in the series, the story got 4 stars.
I was entrusted a copy of this book by Netgalley and Harlequin. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Lots of suspense, little romance. I liked how the story kept you guessing. Hanna and Jesse basically stay in her house the whole book, so that was an interesting plot point.
I received an arc from NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.
While I enjoyed the mystery side of this book I was hoping for more information or background on Hanna and Jesse through glimpses of her returning memory.
The book was intense and kept me intrigued throughout. Who was behind the militia? Her mother? The ATF agent? Great short summer read.
3.5 stars
Wow! This book really is action packed and spins a web that you really aren’t quite sure which direction the shots are coming from. I really enjoyed it. I liked the various law enforcement angles, the criminal aspect, the hidden punches, and the amnesia second chance. This is my first book from this author. There was a steamy scene.
I loved the start of The Silver Creek Lawmen series by Delores Fossen! What I found most interesting about this Intrigue is that the entire story occurred within Hanna's home. Hanna and Jesse never left the home to solve the mystery of who was after Hanna and their baby. It was a risk Ms. Fossen took that the book would get stale before it finished, but it never did! There was enough action going on around them that the book moved along at a steady clip, the same way the romance within the home did.
Hanna has lost her memory after she was shot in the head as an innocent bystander. The most unfortunate part is that she doesn't remember Jesse, the father of her baby, and a Silver Creek lawman looking for the person pulling the strings of the man who shot her. He won't give up until he or she has been brought to justice. Jessie never makes it a secret that he's in love with Hanna, but Hanna is less able to voice her feelings for Jesse, even though she has them.
Together they work to protect their infant son from someone out to get them. Is it a family member? The very idea terrifies Jesse, but the possibility, and the threat, are real. If you love Delores Fossen Intrigues you'll enjoy standing beside Jessie and Hanna in her kitchen as they become a family and beat the bad guy!
Targeted in Silver Creek (Silver Creek Lawmen: Second Generation, 1) by Delores Fossen
Thank you, Delores, for a fantastic romantic suspense. You kept me on the edge of my seat not wanting to put this book down. Jesse and Hanna are perfect H and h - and all the friends/family and other characters made for an amazing story. Thinking I knew who the bad guys were and then having to think again (I love it when I can't guess it before the end). Plenty of drama, suspense, angst, tears, and steam to get to an exciting HEA.
Reasons I enjoyed this book:
Informative Great world building Haunting Wonderful characters Tear-jerker Entertaining Romantic Happily Ever After Steamy Page-turner Tragic Unpredictable Easy-to-read Scary Action-packed
Targeted in Silver Creek by Delores Fossen is the first book in the Silver Creek Lawmen: Second Generation series. This is an exciting start to this series. There's plenty of action, suspense and a second chance romance to enjoy. There's a militia group running guns and drugs in the Silver Creek area. Deputy Jesse Ryland, along with the other lawmen in Silver Creek, have been working on rounding up the members to pay for their crimes. When the militia threats impact Hanna Kendrick and baby Evan, Hanna's and Jesse's six-month-old son, things come to a head. I really enjoyed this storyline. The characters are well-developed. The good guys are very likable. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
This book was fair. I actually became bored with it. It seemed it was dragged out much longer than it should have been.
An enjoyable second chance story with danger, suspense, drama, amnesia, new beginnings, and more!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
