This was my first book by this author and absolutely loved it! I won’t give any spoilers away but I absolutely would recommend to anyone who loves a good thriller.
Come on how can you not love Daniel Hurst! This book was so awesome. Should she stay with Tristan or Mark? The plot twist was so good! As always I love Hurst writing and his way of telling a story.
I'm quickly becoming a Hurst fan and am excited to see what he comes up with next. A brilliant book and one that I will definitely recommend
Many thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this ARC
I love Daniel Hurst books, they are always solid reads for me. However, this one wasn’t my favorite. I rated it 3.5 and rounded up to 4 since we can’t give 1/2 stars. It was decent enough story and kept my interest the whole time but wasn’t as much of a page turner as his other books.
The characters in this one were all just a bit off. I never really connected with any of them.
The interaction at the end with Chrissy was a bit strange too but I sort of liked it. Mark and Tess were just awful people. Fun to hate, for sure!
I enjoyed how things went during that text message situation, it was great. You’ll know what I mean when you read it, I can’t say anymore because I don’t want to spoil anything.
Overall I’m glad I read it and I for sure recommend checking it out. Just check the trigger warnings.
This was my first novel by this author. Thank you for the galley. I wish I could say I enjoyed it more but it felt so predictable and I almost want to say child-like as far as the thought lines went for these characters. I feel like I was just expected to believe the story line even though the majority of things that happened were not believable as far as how they were presented and altercations that happened in public spaces. I don’t know how to eloquently say it without including spoilers, so I will have to leave it at that.
Quick little thriller with a delightful bunch of detestable characters. Sure there are some eyerolling and questionable antics and explanations, but there is bound to be because most of these people just don't act right!! There's a fun little twist in the end that I didn't expect (or even necessarily need for the enjoyment of the story). All in all, another one well done by Daniel Hurst, who is quickly becoming a favorite of mine for a deliciously devious thrillery good time!
Good book. I found the characters a bit strange, but I guess that was what made the book. I found it to be an easy read. I'm looking forward to more from this author.
Thanks to netgalley, the publisher and the author.
This book had me completely hooked! Every time I thought I had the plot and the bride-to-be figured out, the story took a surprising turn. The transformation of the main character was truly remarkable. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, making it a solid 4-star read for me!
I really enjoyed this. I didn’t expect it to go where it was going, loved the twists and turns and couldn’t turn my kindle fast enough. Daniel hurst is sure one of my favourite authors.
Thanks goes to the author for writing it, the publishers and netgalley for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review.
Full review to come on Goodreads and Amazon. Thank you to the publisher, author, and NetGalley for a review copy.
"The Bride To Be" by Daniel Hurst is a psychological thriller about a bride-to-be, Kate, who is in a psychologically abusive relationship with her fiancé, Mark. The story opens with Kate arriving at a wedding dress shop to try on dresses. At this appointment, she encounters another couple who seem very well-off and very in-love. Kate then follows this couple to a local pub, gets the woman's name (Tess), and begins to stalk her Instagram account, along with her fiancé, Tristan's, Instagram. This leads Kate down a road of obsessing over Tristan, spying on Tess and Tristan at home, and leads them down a road that takes her where she never imagined her relationship going.
Frankly, the best word I can use to describe this book is "unremarkable".
"The Bride To Be" definitely has its strong points. It is a good representation of how an intelligent woman can find herself being psychologically abused and feeling trapped in a relationship that she knows isn't good for her, and shows how quickly things can escalate. The book itself is also well-written and appears to be well-edited. It was easy to read and once I started reading, I didn't put it down until I finished.
However, there were quite a few aspects of the book that I did not enjoy. There were twists and turns that I didn't see coming, but that isn't always a good thing. The twists were more confusing than exhilarating, and at times it seemed that they were written just to add a twist rather than to move the story along in a meaningful way. Yes, thrillers typically have twists. Good thrillers use them to move the story along, and it didn't always feel that way in "The Bride To Be". Kate also seemed very flat as a character. Her main motivation for staying with Mark was a fear that she is too old to get married and her biological clock is ticking, and only later does the abuse really factor in to her hesitation to leave. All that she thinks or talks about is Mark and Tristan. Really, none of the female characters have any depth (though, the male characters are lacking as well). Kate seemingly did not exist prior to the beginning of her relationship with Mark - she has no family, no past experiences, nothing.
Overall, I've rated this book 3 stars because it wasn't bad, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone else. I expect this to be a book that I forget I ever read. It was neither good enough nor bad enough to make any lasting impression on me.
I am such a fan of the author. His books are short, twisty and always entertaining. I knew I had to pick this one up.
A love triangle, a wedding and the author’s trademark surprise ending. There were secrets (what twisty thriller doesn’t have that these days), betrayals and it all surrounds the stress of a wedding. Not every character is likable and at times my thoughts switched back and forth about Kate.
I am a fan of the author’s writing style. It is easy to read and drew me in. From the start I was hooked and did not want to put it down. I needed to know to what extreme that characters would go to get their ending. Because in the author’s book, you can always expect an extreme.
I read it in a day and would have read it in a sitting if life hadn’t gotten in the way.
If you are a fan of short, entertaining, easy to read, twisty thrillers, then pick this one up and make sure to check out his other books too.
I was told about this book by a friend so when i found it here on netgalley i was excited. The blurb is what caught my eye and im so happy i was approved to read this book. I couldnt put it down at all. Kept me pulled into it. 5 star book and i highly recommend this book. So glad my friend told me about this book.
I am a huge Daniel Hurst fan. I know you know this already. His books are addictive, fast and twisty.
This book delivered brilliantly on the first 2 points- in spades- I couldn't stop reading!
I found the main character intriguing but seriously unhinged! I found it hard to root for her as she became rather obsessed. Still made for obsessive reading though.
Whilst the epilogue was surprising, I wasn't sure it needed to be included, or perhaps it could have been incorporated into the main book.
Daniel Hirst is a great author, always full of suspense and intrigue. I am already looking forward to the next one. REcommended.
Trigger: domestic abuse-mildly described
As the wedding draws nearer, Kate has some big decisions to make. Should she leave Mark? Is Tristan the one she should really be with? And what will happen when the dark secrets that both couples are hiding come out into the open?
I love Daniel Hurst and have read around 60% of his books. This one was not my favorite. While I think the storyline around domestic abuse is extremely important, this felt like it was addressed without little knowledge or research on the topic.
He is usually known for his awesome twists as well, but this one was blah..
Thank you Netgalley, Daniel Hurst, and Inkubator for the opportunity to read in exchange for an honest review.
Secrets, twists, obsessions and s o much more.
Daniel Hurst never fails to entertain. I’m so glad I found his books.
If you enjoy roller coaster rides… you’ll love this book.
Highly recommend this book!!!
Kudos, Mr. Hurst!!!
Kate is getting married. However, she is not your typical “giddy” bride-to-be. Mark doesn’t always behave in a loving and caring manner and seems to not take her choices and suggestions into consideration. All in all, she begins to wonder if the is actually “the one”. While shopping for her wedding dress, she becomes fixated on a couple in the store, specifically on Tristan, the male half of the couple. Now things really start to get interesting. Daniel Hurst is well known for his twists and turns in novels, and he does not disappoint in this one. The pace is good, and the action keeps you on the edge of your seat. Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for the o[opportunity to review this book.
Please be aware that this book has triggers (stalking & domestic abuse) if you are planing to read it.
The book was okay and had a fair share of twist but unfortunately The story wasn't for me. I just thought it was all a little far fetched. How would Kate think it's okay to follow another couple and interject herself into their life when she would have plenty to sort out in her own life. Kate was a victim of domestic abuse with her partner, but she was also sneaky, conniving and dishonest.
I have read the book within 24 hours. The chapters are short and Daniel's style of writing is easy flowing. I will try other books of him.
Many thanks to Inkubator Books and to NetGalley for this ARC for review.
Not only is Kate’s wedding right around the corner, she hasn’t chosen her dress yet. She’s about to attend a hen party with her friends but there’s a much bigger problem than the fact that she hasn’t found the dress of her dreams. What is going on? Kate is in an abusive relationship with her partner, Mark. The emotional damage Kate experiences with Mark grows exponentially.
While shopping for her wedding dress one day Kate spots what she feels is the perfect couple. A beautiful bride to be and a dropdead gorgeous groom to be. To say that Kate becomes obsessed would be an understatement. She is quite crafty and discovers the names of the couple, with the man being named Tristan. Kate will go to any lengths possible to get close to Tristan, and that is where the story really takes off.
Kate is not happy in her relationship, and if things go the way that she wants, just maybe things might not be so happy for that perfect couple she ran into at the bridal shop. Kate is now on a mission, and this means that she just might upset any future plans.
Every now and again, you read books that have characters that you love to hate, and that’s how things are with Kate. Yes, she was a victim of domestic abuse with her partner, but she was also sneaky, conniving and dishonest. The question is, what about those two impending marriages? Would either of them take place? For an unputdownable domestic thriller, don’t miss this latest book by Daniel Hurst.
Many thanks to Inkubator Books and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
