I love how easy the prompts and exercises were to follow. While I appreciate the history in the beginning, I honestly couldnt get through it. I don't think it altered my experience with the journal and I'm sure others could've benefited from it.

Shadow Work Journal for Self-Love was one of the very few self-help books I was actually interested in reading. It did not disappoint! If you want to delve into the reasons why certain patterns keep occurring in your life, this is the book for you. There are many effective strategies to help you delve into your psyche. The book details the steps you can take for self-care first, which is a very important part of shadow work. I really like how the second chapter has journaling prompts that are fairly light tasks, yet helpful. It prepares you nicely for the harder work in the third chapter. I read this book in one sitting, and am pleased to say, the exercises have me very inspired to do some self-work. I can’t wait to delve into the exercises and start my journey toward healing. In fact, I was so inspired that it was hard for me to read through the entire book without stopping and working on many of the journal prompts. I am so excited about this that I actually had a copy shipped to my best friend. It’s rare that I find a book I know she will love, so kudos to the authors.

I received a copy of Shadow Work Journal for Self-Love from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

Effective Strategies!

Shadow Work Journal for Self-Love is a great resource filled with wonderful insights and strategies. It's safe to say that it would be a great read for anyone looking to do the work, especially shadow work, that is crucial to our future development and healing. I particularly liked the structure of the book and the shadow exercises coupled with journaling prompts. A lot of books that are in this fashion will oftentimes spend too much time explaining what the goal is instead of diving into the actual work. I appreciate how much time was devoted to reflective style questions and journaling. I learned some things about myself in participating in the exercises.

This is an exercise in going deep within to address the shadow that hides and can be repressed deeply inside of us. It equips you with tools for handling emotional triggers and in doing so heals old wounds. I loved the book! I highly recommend it. Thank you to NetGalley for the gifted copy!

I'm usually not a big fan of self help journals. Mainly because they usually just talk alot and there are only a couple lines of work per chapter.
This one was completely different. It had a beginning chapter that talked about how you should make sure you take care of yourself. It goes over the different ways to ground yourself while doing shadow work.
Each exercise is easy to understand and has it broken down into steps and then questions to ask yourself as you do the exercise to get the most out of it.

This book was a great introduction to shadow work and what it means to work with your shadow. The prompts and the guides in this book were well-written and I found myself working through some of the journal prompts (especially in the deeper exploration section) and really reflecting and working on those feelings the prompts guided me on.

A fabulous, easy to understand guide to beginning shadow work. Broken into 3 parts this short book explains what our shadow is and why it is crucial to our well-being to welcome those parts of our self that we hide away. It then provides numerous exercises for conducting shadow work including a letter to your future self and mirror work. Finally the book contains lots of journal prompts to deeply explore the parts of your shadow, how it shows up and the impact it has on your life.

I highly recommend this easy to read, accessible book. It is gentle and wonderfully encourages exploration of the self to develop / promote a greater sense of self -love.

Thank you Zeitgeist and Netgalley for an ARC ain return of my honest review.

A short and sweet self-help book for those who are maybe not religious but "spiritual." I think this book hit all the marks. It explained shadow work in an accessible way for even people not familiar with psychology and Carl Jung will understand. It also didn't go too far in the other direction in paganism or Wiccan practices. With a terse introduction, a quick explanation, and helpful exercises on self-reflection. It also advocated for doing these exercises alongside therapy! I highly recommend this book for anyone who want to delve deeper within themselves.

I have been looking for a good shadow work journal for some time. The Shadow Work Journal for Self-Love is excellent. After an introduction discussing what shadow work is and why we should do it, the authors provider a chapter full of valuable exercises. The rest of the journal includes thought provoking prompts to help you on your shadow work journey. I've read all of them, however I will still be writing the responses for some time to come. This is a journal I will be highly recommending and/or gifting.

The "Shadow Work Journal for Self-Love" is a powerful resource filled with thought-provoking prompts and exercises designed to help you explore and integrate your shadow self while nurturing your inner child. This journal takes you on a transformative journey of self-discovery and healing.

The author skillfully guides readers through various prompts and exercises that encourage deep introspection and reflection. By delving into the shadow aspects of ourselves—the parts we often hide or reject—, we gain a better understanding of our fears, insecurities, and past traumas. Through this process, we can begin to heal and embrace self-love.

What sets this journal apart is its focus on the inner child. The exercises provide a safe space to reconnect with the child within us, addressing unmet needs and nurturing the wounded parts of ourselves. This integration of the shadow and inner child allows for profound personal growth and self-compassion.

The prompts and exercises are well-crafted, offering a balance between self-reflection and actionable steps. The journal encourages honesty and vulnerability, guiding readers toward a more authentic and empowered version of themselves.

One minor critique is that some prompts may require additional support or guidance, especially when addressing deeper emotional wounds. However, the journal acknowledges the importance of seeking professional help when needed and provides resources for further assistance.

"Shadow Work Journal for Self-Love" is a valuable tool for anyone interested in embarking on a journey of self-discovery, healing, and self-love. Thank you Netgalley for providing me with a free digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The concept of inner work through the shadow self has only just recently been introduced to me, and since hearing about this concept I have been eager to dive into those shadow parts of myself and begin the work to heal. This journal is a fantastic entry into the idea of the shadow self with prompts to help guide you through the stages on the work. As I read the book I felt as though the pieces of myself that have been neglected, ignored and repressed were instead seen, heard and validated, brought outside of the shadow of shame and judgement, and instead processed in a space of love and understanding. I enjoyed reading through this book and I will continue to utilize this titles resources and prompts to further understand myself in the healing journey.
I honestly believe this title will be used time and time again, as we continue through our lives and work to better understand ourselves and others. I look forward to re-reading it down the line in another season of my life and see what else emerges.

"The Shadow Self is made up of those parts of you that you subconsciously try to reject." By educating ourselves of our shadow parts and integrating those parts of us to the forefront for understanding and acceptance, we are able to better move forward in our path of healing. Through understanding of those sides, we build empathy toward ourselves and to others, while healing our inner child and creating space for them to be seen.

10 things you will find in this journal (and believe me, there are way more than 10!):
1) what is shadow work
2)ideas for grounding yourself and engaging in self care
3)Mirror work exercises
4)Limiting beliefs exercises
5)journal prompts for connecting your present self to your inner child
6)Dream Work, meditations,
7)Trigger Identification prompts
8) Deep, intensive journal prompts to open yourself up to your shadow self
9)Validation, kindness and forgiveness for yourself as prompted by the authors words.
10) Healed inner child and shadow side.

If you are in a space of healing and hard self work, this book will prompt many conversations with yourself to help you understand why you show up for yourself in the way you show up for yourself. I loved it. I continue to journal based off of these prompts, and I will continue to promote the title to those who are seeking understanding and growth for themselves and others.

Before I begin my review, I would like to disclose that I received a free digital copy through NetGalley in exchange for my honest and thoughtful review. With that being said, let's discuss the Shadow Work Journal for Self-Love:

Right out of the gate, I would like to thank Jay and Inez for creating such a thoughtful guide to Shadow Work at the top of the book. You can tell as the reader how much they care to make sure you get the practice right and come at it with the correct intentions and mindset. The encouragement to be gentle with yourself while working through some of the exercises in the book is also helpful; knowing how I like to "shoulder through" uncomfortable things just to get them done, it was nice to have a reminder that it's okay to deviate from the implied structure of doing the exercises. The careful, distinct breakdowns between triggers, projections, and patterns, is also very helpful for allowing readers to understand the concepts and use that understanding as they later attempt the exercises that utilize those words to prompt you to think about those various aspects of yourself. I also loved the extra self-care rituals that you could undertake to help support you through what can often be a painful, vulnerable, and emotionally raw labor.

As for the exercises themselves, oh boy. In my limited time with access to this book, I was unable to attempt every exercise, but I did look at many of them and think on them a bit, instead of undertaking the full exercise of writing out my responses to each, as I simply didn't have the time. But WOW. Some of these are incisive, and really encourage you to dig deep. They ask you to look deeply within yourself and pull out the truths that you keep hidden, sometimes even from yourself. I love that many of these prompts attempt to help you source the beginning of these patterns or triggers or behaviors, and often ask you to reframe your feelings or behaviors in a way that can motivate you to make change in your own life.

It's not very often we get a mirror held up to fully examine ourselves, and even less often is that mirror actually held up by our own hand. This book takes that uncomfortable self-examination and makes it bite-sized, approachable, and easy for anybody to understand and participate in. I would highly recommend this workbook to anybody who is looking to make changes in the ay they see themselves, the way they interact with the world, or who is simply hoping to feel more connected to themselves.

Above all, this is one of those shadow work journals/guides that actually does what it sets out to do. I loved how clear everything in this book was and how easy it is to follow along at your own pace. This is a must for anyone looking for get into shadow work or just explore themselves.

This title tells you everything you need to know! When it says shadow work it means shadow work! The intro to this journal was great, it really made me feel comfortable and motivated to finish the journal. The prompts were great and some were harder then others but the work that will get done if you follow these prompts and how you will feel implementing them into your live is going to be unreal! Be ready to start loving yourself!

I enjoyed the prompts. The book offers first a brief explanation about what is shadow work and how to go about it. It also warns about triggers. Then it gives you a series of exercises to do and then write about (which the authors recommend you do before trying the prompts). The third part brings the prompts “for deep exploration” by categories, asking about your goals for the shadow work in the first place. There are questions regarding asking for help or support, authenticity, self-acceptance, boundaries, needs, values etc. The book is short to read, but obviously, it would take time to really work through all the prompts. I enjoyed the variety of questions within the theme.
Two points that may or may not be an issue for other readers: the explanation about shadow work is brief, which was ok for me because I read/listened to other sources before. If you come to the book because you already know about shadow work and the best way for _you_ to go about it, then it’s perfect; if not, I recommend you research a little bit about it beforehand. The other issue is that while I appreciate the objective questions, that chapter could benefit from definitions, a succinct discussion and examples. For instance, a definition of what the authors mean by “boundaries” could be useful. When asking about values, the authors give no examples – a list of values would benefit most readers, since some values may not even occur to the reader or one may not remember some possibilities.
In short, it is a nice enough list of prompts, but it could be just a tad deeper.
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC!
